I'm sure they will.  The GOP during the Clinton years had the sandiest vaginas ever, in spite of Clinton being more accommodating to the GOP than a Democrat should have been.  I expect their vaginas to get even sandier if Obama wins.  I just hope Obama has a bigger spine and stand up to the GOP than Clinton did.

It's awesome.  Doubly awesome how the more and more shit that comes out about her, the more the Republicans circle the wagons and demand that she's TOTALLY DESERVING of a VP nod, and is not only competent enough to do the job but by golly, she's got more actual experience than Obama!

it's fascinating

i can't believe this Palin character being brought to the national stage like this

esp when you read about McCain calling her out in his anti-earmark newsletter and photographs of her with her "bridge to nowhere" t-shirt

now her crazy snake kissing chruch had a speaker who called terrorist attacks in isreal god's vengeance for them not being christian.

greatest candidate ever.

I've been posting there too-as long as you're just a little careful, you can basically go total evilbore in that thread since it moves so fast.

Honestly, the Palin pick (had she not had so many closet skeletons) might have worked better if McCain had annouced her a few weeks ahead of the DNC. It would have maybe blunted the McCain-Bush tack and allowed McCain to take some initiative in the campaign for the first time since the general election season really got started.

He really should have gone with someone like Charlie Crist if he wanted a fresh face for the GOP. Would have been a much, much better candidate, even if he is closet homo.

siamesedreamer, explain this!

The media is absolutely evicerating her. She's not "their type" of woman, so they're throwing everything they can at the wall to see what sticks. Its utterly ridiculous. Wait for the new National Enquirer story to hit.

That said, McCain walked right into this. He shouldn't have picked her with such a weak vetting.

Almost all of it sticks tho. She's a nutjob, corrupt, and inexperienced. It'd be better if she had a longer career, because having all of this crapstorm in such a short career is pretty damning.

quite the converse: the problem is that mccain picked her with almost zero consultation with his strategy team -- probably because he wants to be in a gilf threesome with her and cindy. he's dumb enough to think he can pick up the "18 million cracks" (and with an abortion hardliner, lulzy lulz) at the very least.

I don't have a clue.  But her politics are way too far away from the McCain that garnered the 'maverick' name within the Republican party.  Maybe he did name her - but no way was she even close to a first pick.  More like an appeasement of a certain section of the party.

This was to be expected, put a good looking woman up there and you're going to get rumours of affairs, hypocritical stances in her personal life, feelings she doesn't deserve it etc.

I will say this - Obama has been treated with kid gloves this entire campaign. The Wright story would have ended any other politician's chances. But, they completely swept it under the rug because of his "totally awesome/bestest race speech EVA!!!". The only person you hear talk about it now is Hannity's dumb ass. And you'll never hear anything about the Ayers relationship. Charlie Gibson is the only person who's ever challenged Obama (during the ABC debate) and we all saw what happened there.

That's fine though. I'm done with complaining about the media. They're wearing their agenda on their sleeves. Been like that for 10 or 11 months now. Its no use complaining about it.

I reckon it would be mitigated somewhat had McCain picked Romney or Pawlenty. But, in this piosonous environment for the REPs, it was going to be difficult to win anyway.

Should be interesting to see if they bite on the new National Enquirer story though.

Someone who knows McCain (forget who) said this didn't surprise them in the least.  Since he didn't get his way in picking Lieberman, he was basically presented with some files that read "safe" (Pawlenty, Romney, etc) and just one that read "interesting" in Palin.  The guy said that in that sort of instance, 9 times out of 10 McCain will pick the "interesting" choice because that's just who he is.  Which is totally what I want in my President, let me tell you.

She's a good pick on paper. But, obviously she was never fully vetted.

I think Pawlenty would have been the best choice as he could maybe have given McCain inroads into MN and possibly MI. Plus I think he would have sealed the deal in OH.

Appearently, McCain wanted Lieberman first though. But, the religionists balked and he bent to their wishes. Its too bad too because from what I've read about Pawlenty's wife, she's basically a Sarah Palin-like woman.

You have GOT to be fucking joking. To use one example here, headline tally for the Wright story, which was purely a matter of association and not an error of Obamas (nor was it anywhere near as bad as the fascist shit that is coming out of the evangelical base at the moment), far eclipsed the  tally for headlines regarding the Clinton "I was in a war zone! Oh wait, I'm a liar!" shit. Yet, perhaps unsurprisingly, people would still bitch about Obama supposedly being treated with silk gloves. And apparently, that has stuck. Could it be that there simply isn't as much shit worth throwing on Obama as there might be on other candidates? The persistence among journalists to craft a device out of the Wright "scandal" suggests that there is no lack of interest in taking off the gloves.

new republic also has a great piece dissecting obama's rhetorical style, and lamenting how the repubs have drug oratory into the pathos (common emotional appeal) gutter, out of the logos (formal lecture) style of last century (and almost every century previous). obama has hints of the old-school oratory in his words, cadences, and delivery, and he's using it to great effect.

as tnr points out, the repubs like liberals better when they're being their usual hand-wringing, self-doubting selves. to them, any sign of liberal enthusiasm and wholehearted support is disturbing, because it must be cult-think. unless it's offered in support of bush junior, or O HOLY GIPPER, of course. no-one's made any gold busts of obama yet, or called him "God's agent in the war between good and evil" though -- maybe that's what moves aimless optimistic adoration beyond messiah worship and into the realms of practical religion? i dunno! help me apf!
