alaska also has rich fields of tiberium ore and vespene gas

exactly the necessary 20000 units of each we need to build a joint strike force of mammoth tanks and protoss zealots to defeat the russian-zerg alliance

Could someone explain to me exactly how Mayor McMooseburger is going to solve our energy woes?  I keep hearing she's a wiz on the issue, but no one ever explains HOW.

You, er, drill for oil and stuff (after you kill, skin and burn the polar bears, mind you). Remember, whatever money is made from all those new drilling zones goes straight back to the people. This, according to the people. Not only are the people seemingly delusional about how things actually work, they actually seem to crave a socialist system.

Just look at John Mccain's plan to pay off the deficit. There is none. Don't ask for plans or facts. These things are anathemas to the republican party. Just saying you'll do it is good enough. Just ask SD. ;)

The solution Palin is touting I think is a 4.5 billion cubic foot per day transmission system for natural gas.

I'm just wondering if they are selling to Canada or if they are going to spend the huge costs of transporting it from Alaska to Washington?  Even then, there is more than enough natural gas from the Baja California area to handle the load for the west coast.  The Midwest is reaching maximum capacity for the piping there but will someone actually construct 2000+ miles of piping before it actually reaches their first customer?

I'm guessing natural gas transmission companies are hoping the government will pick up the tab.  Or something.  One of the reasons why many significant transmission pipes are at maximum capacity is because it costs a shitload to lay down more.

I worked with and learned a lot of information about natural gas and Palin's idea is pretty stupid unless there was heavy government subsidization involved.

Out of curiosity, is there a law or agreement in place that hinders further development (and research) of nuclear energy systems?

Contrasting her resume with his, she says: "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

Oh, Sarah. Oh, dear, sweet, naive Sarah Palin. I dare you to go to an inner city and community organize. This will blow up so badly.

Is it true that McCain commented on her lack of international experience by referencing her geographical proximity to Russia? That one sounded almost too unreal, so I figured I'd give them the benefit of a doubt, and assume that it was "FUD."

The place I'm working at researched nuclear power and wanted to build a plant.  The reason why they never went through with it is because that there is a huge shortage of nuclear engineers or those who are capable of handling a potential nuclear crisis, nuclear power machinery gouging companies (they wanted a 20% profit margin at least), extensive board reviews and regulations after Three Mile Island.  In all, a new plant is going to cost $18 billion minimum.

You're going to find very few companies willing to put up the capital and the immense risk since if it fails, it would wipe them out.  Of course, I may have been fed a line of BS but even that cost was half that amount, it is still a huge risk.

Quote
There was a proposal a few years back to tap into Canada's existing pipelines, but it was shot down because it would have cost Alaskans a bigger check.

 ::)

Not at you but the shot down proposal.  That would have cut a lot of heating costs for winter.

That sounds reasonable, I suppose. Nuclear power has gotten a bad rep, some of it of course deserved, and I can see why this would cause potential investing entities to shy away from it. Especially now that the plants, at least in the public eye, have perceived cross-hairs on them. It's a bit of a shame though; in an ideal scenario, it's just about the perfect energy.

Sidebar here, but it's starting to drive me insane, so answers please. What's up with this constant "USA! USA" chanting and America Uber Alles rhetoric that seems to surround every damned political gathering here? I mean, it's the convention for an American party, held in America, and with primarily Americans in the audience. So why the need to repeat the name of the union, chant style? This seems to be fairly unique to this nation, to be honest. Is it just young nation syndrome?

This crowd looks exactly like what you imagine Republicans look like. Wrinkly white bitches drunk on martinis and swimming in pearls.

Also, LULZ at the Republicans calling someone out for "flip-flopping", given that I'm staring at the bizzaro world version of 2000 John McCain. And this speech is PACKED with obvious shit: "There's good change and bad change!". Oh, well, thanks, I didn't realize that.

Also also, I'm pretty sure Rudy is just reading Obama's speech.

Also also also, why is everyone cheering for Off-Shore Drilling? Holy shit- That guy just yelled "OIL!" and everyone went FUCK YEAH and then Rudy said, "Drill baby drill!" and now everyone is chanting DRILL BABY DRILL.

This is what my nightmares are like.
