New Obama/Ayers vid surfaces:

Wait...he's accrediting his experience at Ayers' foundation as one of the main reasons why he should be elected to Congress? You mean he's not just another guy out of the thousands of people he knows?

I'm sure the MSM will jump right on this.  ::)

I remember posting in another thread I thought it was a mistake for the Obama team (or media supporters) to attack Palin's experience.  Actually it was a mistake for them to focus so heavily on Palin period, they don't have to  defeat her, but the guy above her, and it looks like McCain capitalized on that going by the polls.  Now Palin finds herself in a mode similar to the rock start mode Obama was in during his trip to Europe.

Have you watched the campaign? Or are you another internet republican thinking the media = camp obama. camp obama ignored Palin long enough. McCain forced their hands by trying to spam america with lies.

Dude first of all I'm a conservative, not a republican I owe no allegiance to that two party bullshit.  Yes I've watched, and I watched Obama mention her as a mayor in his first response, which the right wingers used to say he was downplaying her.  NBC may = camp Obama, but the rest of the media ran with the smears the bloggers used, some which were made up btw.  Why am I even arguing with you on this?  The polls show it was a mistake to attack Palin while giving McCain a free ride, we'll just agree to disagree  if you like.

Obama's career preceding joining the Senate was very different from Palin's.  Looking at it as two years as a governor vs two years as a senator is just dumb.

community organizer. So much more experience.

 ::)

That was in the 80s dipfuck, he followed that up with being a Constitutional law professor, civil rights attorney, and more importantly, 7 years as a state congressman.

Also, Palin's problem isn't experience, it's qualification. SHE DOESN'T KNOW SHIT. Reading Obama's 4 year old book is enough to demonstrate how intelligent and knowledgeable and QUALIFIED he is, Palin can't string a sentence together about our country's most vague issues.

Also, sinc when is the life of service of a community organizer not something to be respected? Isn't the existence of these sorts of people required under the hands-off Republican style of government? Aren't they America's heroes, and teen preggers the villains?

Choice news from TODAY:

"You know that there's been tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall Street. People are frightened by these events," McCain said. "Our economy -- I think still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong -- but these are very, very difficult times. And I promise you we will never put America in this position again."

-----

A campaign spokesman says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won't speak with an investigator hired by lawmakers to look into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

McCain campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan told a news conference Monday that the governor, the Republican nominee for vice president, will not cooperate as long as the investigation "remains tainted." He said he doesn't know whether Palin's husband would challenge a subpoena issued to compel his cooperation.

Clinton raised taxes and balanced the budget.  His successor lowered taxed, especially on the rich, and yet he expanded government immensely and erased the Clinton era surpluses.  Why does ''raising taxes'' raise such a red flag?  You have to look at the proper context.  Do you think the government can afford these massive deficits, fund to two wars, bail out two big mortgage brokers, while lowering taxes?

rising taxes on the 2% beardo could never even hope to be a part of. wtf care.

I'd like to make a few points here myself if thats okay:

1. experience is overrated imho.  I've long realized people liek Rumsfeld and Cheney were some of the most veteran-y veterans in Washington and look where they got us.  No, instead what I look at is how the person spent their last couple of decades doing.  IN other words, not how long or even what they did per se, but how they CHOSE TO SPEND their recent decades doing.  Obama and Mccain both pass the test for me.  Palin fucking does not.  [i dont really know biden...]

2.  What's more important than  point #1? What the candidate and their campaign have done/said for the last couple days/months/few years.  Thus I see Obama making speeches on racial unity, cons/lib unity, issues issues issues. Then I see McCain [his ads especially] and Palin making speeches on "i'm small town" "Obama is for sex ed for kiddies" "I'm right next to Russia" "Economy is fundanmently sound"

Do you see what I am saying?  POint number 2 is not about whether you agree with what they stand for; it's about how the candidates present themselves and their issues for which they stand.  If you argue "We must remain in Iraq for a couple more years to prevent a Saigon-style Bailout.gif" then that's fair, whether or not I agree.  But if you say "Look, Hezbollah just said they prefer Obama win, that's their words not mine" or "I was a POW i was a POW, i was a POW" then you are a suck.  You have a choice between saying rhetoric based on fighting clean, or rhetoric based on what the party chiefs/establisment prefer with mudslinging.  Both kinds can be repeated adnauseum and eventually become cliched, but a world of difference in character, honesty, and bravery [ie. standing up against the temptation for mud] separates the two.

3.  The most important issue is the issues. Obviously . In a fair world, in a perfect world, this and all elections would be decided on by whether or not you believe in small govt, or programs for poor mothers, etc etc. In 2004 and again in 2008, the Bush, the Hilary Clinton, and now the Mccain have been the worst culprit of violating this third point, in the time I've been follwoing US politics. [i'm not saying Dems dont do it either]

I commend the right on galvanizing their base to treat raising taxes as worse possible thing in the world.  It's hilarious when you see these guys worrying about the top 2 percent when US continues to fall behind on education, science and technology, infrastructure and on and on.  Of course raising taxes isn't the panacea liberals have been known to propose, but we need to re-invest government dollars as well.

The Fake Shemp

Fact of the matter is that Obama is more likely to give tax relief to the majority of Americans than McCain, but somehow that DOES NOT MATTER.
PSP

also my thgouths on two issues:

taxes:  as a moderate, i've long held the belieef taht lowering taxes vs. more social programs is nowhere near as black and white as conservatives/liberals have tried to convince me.  There's this thing called 'reality' and it's as complex as can be: you cannot just say "redistributing wealth from top 2 % is just bad" or "increasing govt funding for this/that" is good, you need to study the context, the degree, the scale, the whole shit.

Yet this is the thing: Dems rarely seem to go around shouting "More govt aid for disadvantaged is needed, more programs are needed" yet it is the conservatives/Republicans shouting "I will decrease taxes, they will raise it!!" The latter side paints the issue far more black and white than the other side, and that is just stupid.

2. Abortion.  This, along with the support for abstinence only program, is the biggest point of hypocrisy from conservatives.  So they stand up for govt deregulation/libertarianism, except when it conflicts with their Christian religion/ethics?  It's hypocrisy.

I just wish that both parties can come together on a solid economic plan for the U.S.  Instead of this ''either/or'' scenario that gets played every election year.

I'm more centrist myself and have voted republican as well, but I don't understand why McCain is letting the far right hijack his economic plan.  He actually was against extending aggressive Bush tax cuts originally.

So today I e-mailed my mother (very much a Christian) a link to Biden's speech. She's admitted to me that she doesn't know anything about politics, so I'm trying to help her reach an informed decision and not to just vote McCain "because Christians always vote Republican." Of course, her vote really doesn't matter because we live in California, which always goes blue, but I think I can convince her that Obama is the better candidate.

But her e-mail back to me just left me shaking my head.

Quote
I was on the phone with Aunt (name removed) when I opened your email and so I read it out loud to her and she was surprised that you are pro Obama.  She thinks he's going to usher in the anti-christ!  I will try and listen to the speech later this evening or tomorrow. Right now I'm going to go start on dinner. . .

 :( :( :(

The aunt in question lives in Indiana, and much of the rest of my family is scattered throughout Michigan and Ohio, some key battleground states. I hope the rest of my family is better informed. Granted, this aunt has always been a little bit loony, but still. All these fundamentalists voting for the Republican ticket out of habit just make me sick, especially considering that Obama is a Christian.

Sadly, Presidential politics have always been light on issues and heavy on hyperbole and polarization.

That's not the point. The point is that they stay true i.e. vote for God loving McCain and Palin while the rest vote for dark disciple Obama. Hence they'll get into heaven for being true to God while the rest burn in hell.
