You guys don't give Republicans enough credit. Her approval ratings are not superb, and the people that are latching onto her now are only doing so because she's the only option. She will not be able to stand against more competent rivals within the party.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but the dearth of competent Republicans ready for the National stage is what pretty much let McCain win by default this year.  Huckabee and Romney increased their profiles this year I guess, but I still don't think she'll have too hard a time of it in 2012- provided she survives in Alaska, which is no longer a given.

So what is the Bore's thoughts?

Sometimes in life you got to call a spade a spade.  Palin is total garbage and it has nothing to do with partisan politics.  The fact that she was picked for superficial reasons (gender and religion) makes me have even less respect for the GOP.  Her nomination was a blatant patronizing choice to appeal to the Elisabeth Hasselbecks out there that wanted a pretty candidate that is equally superficial intellectually.  A 21st century era santized suburbanized GRRL power candidate.

Funny thing is now only middle aged men like her.  She even failed on the superficial front.

This has got to be a joke, but I'll bite:

It's widely known that Republicans are now playing "the blame game" in the wake of their presidential ticket's abysmal campaign. Some accept their party's mistakes; others like Mr. Navarrette blame the media and the imagined double standard that allows liberal politicians to be -- gasp! -- politicians just like their conservative counterparts.

The column yields no political insight and only a marginal amount of humor (unintentional, of course).

"Interesting read"  :lol

you know Ganhyun, to tell you the truth, i don't really have anything against you, but the way you criticize Obama Nation just provides me more evidence of how clueless cowards you guys are.

Palin is a BS candidate in a way that neither McCain nor Obama nor Biden are a BS candidate.  You know Palin is pure BS.  We know Palin is pure BS.  She is simply incomparable to the other three guys, in any way.

Stop defending Palin.  Attack Obama's spending, attack his big govt stance.  But stop being a Republican lapdog.

I mean look at a guy like Newt Gingrich.  Trying to compare Palin's inexperience with Obama's inexperience.  I get it: they both lack many years in politics.  But guess what?  Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield....all those tards had billions of years of political expereince, and what did that prove exactly?  I am not dismissing expereince totally, but you also have to look additionally at how the person conducts his campaign, and how he argues his case, even if you disagree with what he argues.

McCain has said "Republicans came to change Washington, and Washington changed Republicans."  Guess what?  McCain came to change Washington, and Washington changed him. BEFORE he ever stepped into the White House.  Before he was elected, before Nov 4, he was exploiting 'terrorist' angles that is largely irrelevant to the issue at hand, in the same way that Bush's lack of Vietnam combat expereince was irrelevant to the issues of 2004.

Same with Hillary:  Hillary came to change Washington, and Washington changed her loooong before Nov 4.  Her racial baiting, wearing her gender on her sleeve in a way that Obama did NOT wear his race prominently on his sleeve, etc.

Palin? "Washington" [i.e. the temptations/vices onto politicians] changed her since waay back in her Wasilla days and her Governor days.  In addition to her outrageous and covert spending on herself and her families, she is intelectually bankrupt to the point that makes Bush seem coherent, she is a tremendous religious fundamentalist that not even McCain nor Obama is, and she is just. fucking. B. S.

So, seriously, don't be a coward like Newt Gingrich, who clearly does not love Palin but is too spineless to call her bullshit like Chris Buckley did.  There are valid points you can criticize Obama on, and if you are a small govt type, I would understand if you did not vote for Obama.  BUt don't be a fucking spineless slave to the Republican propaganda machine, which you are right now.

This is truly crazy land. The McCain campaign is not only one of the worst run campaigns I've ever witnessed, they're now pandering to the lowest of the low IQ talking points.

Obama said that if everyone's getting tax cuts, they'll have more money to spend, therefore they'll be able to afford to hire Joe the Plumber and his imaginary plumbing service - hence, "spreading the wealth" around means everyone benefits, especially small businesses.

The "reporter" framed the question as if this is hurting Obama's numbers or something, but in reality no one is buying this bullshit

So the NY Times ran an op-ed coauthored by Newt Gingrich, John Kerry and Billy Beane.

It makes the case for statistical analysis of medical data to better assess what works, using sabrmetrics as a cutesy hook.  The compilation and objective analysis of medical data can lead to better and more efficient treatment, just like WHIP and VORP led to the Moneyball approach in baseball, etc.  It's actually a pretty good point, if not a new one.

What they leave out is how Newt axed the Office of Technology Assessment and slashed the budget and authority of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, two agencies which were tasked with doing exactly that.  See here.

Not really presidential, but not worth its own thread either.  The level of blithe hypocrisy is almost impressive in its way.

Excellent interview with John Hodgman about the election and other things.

Quote
...anymore than just because John McCain wants to believe that if he suspends his campaign and makes serious faces in Washington that the economic crisis will be averted. That's magical thinking. It doesn't make it so just because you want something. Just because John McCain wants to be President does not mean that it must happen. That's the same magical thinking that really undid Hillary Clinton. It was like, "I don't need to put forward a compelling argument for my candidacy. My candidacy is a compelling argument for my candidacy. I want to be President. Obviously, you all know it's time. Let's get this over with." That wasn't good enough to go against somebody who I think really has looked at the reality of election, saw all the opportunities where he could make gains, saw that she was totally neglecting the caucus states, saw that that was a place where he could take an advantage, planned for it, took the advantage, and won. That's science. Do you know what I mean? That's reality triumphing over magical thinking.

Do I like Obama, personally? I do. Do I think he's got good policies? Look, I'm like everyone else, I hope so. They sound good. They sound like something I believe in, so I think based on his performance and the way that he has run his campaign, I feel that it is reasonable to feel confident that he is going to take the same discipline and smarts and lack of drama and apply them to the very serious issues today and I think that makes him a good choice for President. Do I think that his candidacy is historic? Sure, that's exciting too, but what I think it's really amazing that he exists in the same world that I also inhabit and no other political candidate lives in that world right now. They live in a made-up world that is not reality. I think that that's why you see Obama surging right now. It's that the people like the fact that Obama lives in the world that they live in.

He really is a smart bastard irl too, I guess.

Oh, gracious. I was on a list of people (most of them in my extended family) that got this email tonight:

Quote
Redistribution Of Wealth

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign the read 'Vote
Obama, I need the money.'  I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' tie, again I
 laughed--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him
that
I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept.  He stood there
in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to
someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server
 angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server
inside as Ive decided he could use the money more.  The homeless guy was
 grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized
the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter
was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the
 actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept
than in practical application.  OR IS IT?  REDISTRIBUTION OF SOMEONE ELSE'S
WEALTH IS A GREAT IDEA..............or just a fools political game!

For those among you who have more money than you will ever need, save your
time and delete this email.

For the rest of us who are still working with mortgages, children and
grandchildren or retired living on a pension and or Social Security perhaps
you will take a couple of minutes to read the proposed changes in the
American tax system.

Sharing this email with others can make a difference on November 4, 2008;
for our citizens and our country.

INTERESTING DATA JUST RECEIVED ON TAXES

This is something you should be aware of so you don't get blind-sided. This
is really going to catch a lot of families off guard. It should make you
worry.

Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:

CAPITAL GAINS TAX

MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples) McCain does not propose
any change in existing home sales income tax.

OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales

How does this affect you?  If you sell your home and make a profit, you will
pay 28% of your gain on taxes.  If you are heading toward retirement and
would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28%
of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will
adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes
as part of their retirement income.

DIVIDEND TAX

MCCAIN 15% (no change)

OBAMA 39.6%

How will this affect you?  If you have any money invested in stock market,
IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or
anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40%
of the money earned on taxes if Obama become president.  The experts predict
that higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock
market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.

INCOME TAX

MCCAIN (no changes)

Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $31,250

OBAMA
(Reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married making 60K - tax $16,800
Married making 75K - tax $21,000
Married making 125K - tax $38,750

Under Obama your taxes will more than double!  How does this affect you?

No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.

INHERITANCE TAX

MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax

How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms and
ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because
they could not afford the inheritance tax.  Those willing their assets to
loved ones will not only lose them to these taxes.

NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA

* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet

* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)

* New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water,
electricity)

* New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least....

* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level
of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

I replied to all:

Quote
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/would_obama_tax_my_profits_if_i.html

There are plenty of reasons to vote against Senator Obama, but mistruths and scare tactics should not be among them.

If you don't think taxes should be raised on the wealthy, that is perfectly acceptable. But stand on truth.

Bocsius

The numbers were so obviously bogus. People earning 30K were not paying $8400 in federal income taxes prior to George W. Bush. That's 28% of wages, when the lowest marginal rate was 15%. The math is so lazy, the author used the same rate on each of the single-earner's income levels. And it contradicts what other conservative groups have been moaning and groaning about, and that is that the Obama tax plan would add to the number of people not paying income taxes at all.

That Senator Obama sure is a powerful guy. He can raise everybody's taxes at the same time as increasing the number of people not paying taxes!

But that's soshee-liism! Obama is a dang socialist.

How so? The United States already has a progressive income tax where entities which earn more, pay more. It is already "redistributing wealth." How does adjusting the percentages suddenly make it socialism if it wasn't before?

Because he's gonna take the money away from the people who earned it and give it to the filthy poors and dern Mexicans!

It doesn't mean that at all. The government wouldn't just directly give the extra money from the higher brackets to the lower ones. That extra money means that the government can afford to tax the middle/lower classes less than before. It's the same procedure we use today; Obama won't suddenly walk up to rich people, grab their cash, and hand it to homeless guys.

I'm an American, and American won't stand for the socialist ideas like that.

Really? This chart shows the amount of tax revenue that the top tax bracket in the country has paid since the inception of the federal income tax, compared to approximately how much they would pay under Obama:

How is Obama's plan any more socialist than the  higher previous tax rates for the top bracket (including Reagan's first term, in which the top bracket contributed ~10% more of tax revenue than they would under Obama)?

I AIN'T NO COMMUNIST, AND I DON'T BELIEVE IN COMMUNISM, GO BACK TO RUSSIA

:piss progressive tax :piss2

Obama is a socialist. Which is fine but he needs to just come out of the marxist closet and be proud of it. And maybe if he is lucky he can get mccain to come too.

Hey you piss drinking mongoloid, if Obama is a socialist for wanting to raise the top bracket's tax rate to 39%, what the fuck does that make Nixon, who had it at 70%?

BU BU BU BU SOCIALISM!
