I thought he was pretty good in Rescue Dawn too, and while not a standout in I'm Not There, he plays the "preacher" role well.

The "up-and-coming folk hero" role, not so much.  He overdoes the awkwardness and it comes off unnatural and stilted.

I have no problem with Bale in the Batman movies, especially as Bruce Wayne in TDK.  He plays a good super douche.  But I saw 3:10 to Yuma not too long ago and I disliked him in that and in Terminator 4.  I think it is commonly accepted that his best role has been the villain in Shaft.

I really like TDK, but I will say that parts of the last act suck.

He's probably just a sociopath in real life.  Wasn't it confirmed he's a raging asshole?
My guess is that he gets roid rage from time to time.  Yes, seriously.  He was ripped as hell in Batman Begins, which he shot only several months after The Machinist.  I think he's juicing.

American Psycho was a fluke.  Totally.  It hasn't carried over to any other movie I've seen him in.  It wasn't skill.  It was luck.  He's probably just a sociopath in real life.  Wasn't it confirmed he's a raging asshole?

Tis my workig theory - AP wasn't a fluke so much as it was Bale getting to play what is within himself. A sociopath playing a sociopath - brilliant!

Movie still would have been better with the original casting of DiCaprio.

I didn't know it was supposed to be DiCaprio.  Hmm.  A few years ago I probably would have said that it'd be a bad idea but now I think it would have been brilliant.  Fuck.

Yup, it was DiCaprio, who dropped out to do The Beach. Which I also love, in spite of another typical Alex Garland third act tone/genre shift.

He's busy filming Sherlock for the BBC but Jackson and MGM want him so bad they've come up with a schedule that will allow him to film both that and The Hobbit. The deals not final yet though.

Saw Machete.  It was the hilarious.  There were some pacing issues but overall it was great.  It was exactly what I expected.  I heard a few people complaining about it being stupid in the theater.  I guess they never saw where it came from and/or didn't understand the type of movie it was before going in.  But what the hell were they expecting with the trailer?

The whole story arc with the bodyguards was great. One guy was trying to grab his gun and Machete keep hitting his hand with the weedwacker, and then he just smacks him in the face with it. And then later, that guy was like "You know, we let them into our homes and babysit our kids, but we don't want to let them into our country. That doesn't make sense." And then when they finally just gave up, that was a hilarious.

I saw the new Resident Evil. They retcon the super powers in the very beginning so now Alice is a regular person again (apparently). The post-credits show that Jill Valentine is the new badguy, with the device attached to her chest (RE5). Not a bad Resident Evil movie. Would love to see a Alice + Jill fight.

Watched MacGruber, Killers, and rewatched The Girl Next Door

MacGruber was stupid funny, which was unexpected.  The trailer didn't do the comedy justice.

Killers was typical Ashton Kutcher can't act bullshit.  Katherine Heigl being a mega-hottie and Tom Selleck rocking his legendary mustache were the only reasons to sit through that piece of shit.

:hump :hump :hump

The Girl Next Door is an old favorite of mine.  Elisha Cuthbert is smoking hot, and the movie is funny as hell.

The Host
I've officially given up on Korean cinema.  I really thought it was going to be pretty awesome.  The scene with military guy at the beginning and then the bridge scene.  I really thought I'd like it (granted that was only like 5% of the movie).  But then they introduced that dopey fucking shitty father in sweat pants who eats one of the squid legs.  He play the typically annoying dude in Korean movies that makes that "huh" sounds a lot.

Band of Brothers
Not a movie I know.  But I just watched this for the first time.  Holy fucking shit it was amazing.  Everything was great about it.  Best 27 dollars for 10 hours of blu ray i've ever spent.  Simply incredible.

yeah when they see the picture of the little girl at the memorial deal thing.  it made me cringe.

Thirst was bad.  The Host was bad.  Lady Vengeance had positive attributes but I didn't like it.  Same with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.  Those are all the movies I've seen of his and he sucked in all of them and all of them were completely underwhelming.

Anyone seen Day of the Woman (I Spit On Your Grave)?  I've never seen it, but there's apparently an unrated and super gory remake.  I scored free passes for the Houston premiere and I'm not sure what to expect.

I also scored free passes for Devil (lol) and The Virginity Hit.  I wouldn't pay for either of them but if they're free why the fuck not?

Edit: Also scored tickets to Easy A.  Don't even know what the fuck it is but the hot chick from Superbad is in it and it's free.  It's at the same theater as Devil on the same night.  So at 7:30 we're seeing Easy A.  Then we're buying tickets (student discount day gets us both in for 13 bucks on Thursdays) for something (probably RE) and then we're hitting Devil at midnight.  Should be sweet since I bet no one will show up for Devil.

Which is pretty typical with Korean movies. Thirst is probably the worst offender I've encountered though. Good god was the pacing fucked on that turd.

Saw Carrie for the first time in a long time.  Outside of some of the 70's cliche annoyances I thought it still held up pretty well.  I haven't seen it since I was like 10 and I've always been a pretty huge Stephen King fantard.  The creepy parts worked really well as did most of the evil shit.  I never realized how awesome that final scene in the school is (even though she looks like Michael Jackson in that scene).  The way it splits in half and the right side of the screen floats over the left and she turns all evil locking the doors.  Good stuff.
