Jacob's Ladder, right?

Yeah...   :P

Saw Magnolia yesterday with my sis again. Pretty good movie. But I still don't understand the falling frogs. And the ending is very strong. My sis cried again.  :-\

I Spit on Your Grave is bleh. I picked up the DVD a few years back after seeing it mentioned everywhere as some great horror film, but in reality it's a mildly interesting exploitation D-picture. Half of the film is an uncomfortable rape sequence and the other half is the chick getting revenge in the most boring ways possible (save one castration that's pretty amusing). It might be worth watching once, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't think I have ever heard of someone praising it as anything other than a very exploitative film.

same

it's largely fuck awful.

did you know there's a sequel?

Martin Scorsese's sci-fi family movie now has a release date of Dec 9th 2011 and will be officially shot in 3D (not post-production 3D ala Alice or Clash of the Titans). It has been rumored for a while but at least it's official it won't be the post-production shit that looks horrible.

A 3D blockbuster directed by Martin Scorsese where one of the main characters is a robot. So pretty much another Goodfellas/Casino. It stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, and Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from Kick-Ass).

Ho. Ly. Shit.

This is like essential action movie shit right here. Amazing! Tits in every other scene. Copious amounts of unnecessary gore and swearing. Awesome one-liners.

I can't believe I hadn't heard more about this movie. It's kinda flawless. It pushes aside anything that could distract from tits and action. Brandon Lee and Dolph go from opposed strangers to best buds in like five minutes.

Martyrs wasn't that bad. The GAFfers crying in this thread are a bunch of girlie men confirmed.

You only really see the after-effect of the worst part of the whole movie.

The first half was really something though.

The ending of Martyrs elevates it a level above the typical fare, I thought.

But the "torture" scene wasn't bad at all. Hostel was worse. I was far more creeped out by the scenes in the first half with the

Well, to me the best moment was when you realize why all this stuff was happening. As I understand it:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
a bunch of rich old people nearing the end of their lives were willing to try anything to find out what happens after death.
[close]

It pissed me off at first that we didn't get to actually hear the answer to that question, but then I realized that any answer we could have been given wouldn't have been as effective as the actual ending.

But the fact that all that horror had an actual purpose beyond providing an outlet for desensitized perverts to get their jollies was a pretty interesting idea.

What in the world does that have to do with hipsters? It's a movie by a really solid director (Stardust and Layer Cake were pretty good) and is getting good reviews.

Yea, but at the same time they kinda did that already with The Incredibles, and I'd rather get a sequel of that than a FF movie.

Scorsese? He has been obsessed with 3D ever since Avatar came out and has wanted to experiment with those cameras. His next movie after this is a drama about 2 priests in Japan so I really don't think this movie is going to lead to a trend of Scorsese doing nothing but sci-fi/fantasy blockbusters.

It should be interesting to see him do something with fucking  talking robots in it though. The whole idea of him doing this is so strange.

A Scorsese movie that will probably have a toy line for kids. It is just so absurd.  :lol

So I downloaded Lebanon and I can't for the life of me find proper subtitles. :\ The ones included with the video are a mess, and there seems to be a glut of google translated ones so I guess that's what it is. And all the other ones I find are only 1CD while my video is two. :'(

Kick-Ass

Thought it was really good!  For literary value I thought the story did a great job interweaving an ode to the classic superhero structure in a film responding to superheroes.  I saw one review call it a great post-modern superhero film and I can get on that.  The directing was good.  Like Vaughn's Layer Cake It could have been tighter, but it overall it was well directed with some really neat segments.  The action was good in a Kill Bill way, the pacing was good and the film was a nice meaty length without feeling overbearingly long, the comedy was...ok and Nicholas Cage once again proves kooky batshit insane Nic Cage is thumbs up, while serious drama Nic Cage is lol.

Will probably be the better superhero film this year between it and Iron Man 2.
Would recommend
