Though this scene is of course the sexiest scene of any John Hughes movie:

No one can argue with that.

Never seen it

It's every John Hughes cliche rolled into one film with no substance whatsoever. Has the hottest version of Jennifer Connelly, however.

no idea.

i can't see it translating

maybe as an ugly betty style drama, where she's a librarian by day trying to get her life together and at night she throws wild parties.  insert the theft and wacky friends it may be able to sustain

I saw Kick-Ass last night. Good film, but I fucking hate Mark Millar. I don't know what it is, but I can't stand his characters. Everything but the writing of the movie was excellent, especially since the director from Layer Cake did this. I still couldn't get around the extremely unlikable, annoying characters.

I've vowed never to read his books because what little of him actually gets into the films already angers me, I can't imagine being able to handle the condensed pretentiousness and stupidity of his style in book form.

Kick-Ass was both amusing and infuriating in comic form. It's making me not want to watch the movie all that much.

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010, Bansky)

(Image removed from quote.)

Fucking awesome. Probably the best street art documentary I've seen (even better than Style Wars which is great), and more importantly a pretty fascinating dissection of art and artists as a whole. See this if you can. My third favorite of the year after Shutter Island and Mother. :bow

It's out in Seattle, theater is pretty close to my house. Either going to see this or Ajami tomorrow.

Looks like Ridley Scott's next movie is indeed the prequel to Alien. It sounds pretty far along. It should be interesting to see how it turns out since Ridley Scott's filmography over the past few years has been all over the place. Body of Lies and American Gangster were pretty average while Kingdom of Heaven was one of the best films of his entire career.

Even with Ridley Scott's mixed record recently I don't think there is a single other director that would be a better choice to try and revive the franchise.

Yep. Monster's Inc. 2 though is the best news ever.

All that is left is an Incredibles 2. Toy Story 3 and Monster's Inc. 2 are the best possible sequels they could have done other than that. So 2/3 so far.

I have heard some big time spoilers about the end of Toy Story 3 and wow, Pixar has some balls.

Well, now Pixar is a part of Disney and is actually calling the shots for the animation division, so technically, kinda-sorta, they are Pixar films.

And even though I'm two days late to the argument, I also agree that Infernal Affairs bests The Departed (which is still a really good film).  The Departed is a full 40 minutes longer and adds little besides a hammy Jack Nicholson performance and a ridiculous love triangle.  I can honestly say IA was to me, the more entertaining film.  If I wanted to get full Canto-faggory I would also point out that Infernal Affairs II might actually be better then the original film, which would make the hierarchy...

IA2 > IA > The Departed > IA3

but that's just me.

Watched Predator again recently. :rock

The assault scene is so amazing. The movie is phenomenal in every way except for the fact that the actual Predator effects have not aged well at all. If the exact same film could exist with modern effects for the Predator's weapons and vision (not Lucas shit CG, but something good), it would pretty much be the greatest action film of all time.

Cars did pretty good box office numbers, but the merchandising was massively successful, outpacing every other Pixar release.

I'd guess that's why.  It sure as hell ain't due to the huge crossover appeal of Larry the Cable Guy.

I hope Brad Bird doing MI4 means Abrams is now in the market to actually go back and do The Dark Tower. He's definitely my favourite young new director. He reminds me of Spielberg. In many ways, I've never went through the Spielberg generation of films. By the time I was old enough to understand E.T, it was already out dated. I have to say though, I really liked A.I.

So that's why I'm not into Spielberg. Though I recognize that at one time, he was great.
