So two articles that go "Woah, guys, TDK is a pretty awesome movie but it's not the best movie ever or anything!" are supposed to convince us that the popular opinion is that TDK isn't really that good and it's easily outclassed by Marvel's efforts?  :lol

I agree with both articles, and trolled Nolan fantatics non stop on GAF over this very fact. TDK is flawed, cheesy, and hammy like all superhero films. But it does more things right than any superhero film I've ever seen, and features a truly amazing performance that you can't come close to finding in any other superhero film.

Yeah, I don't think anyone here is claiming, or has claimed, that TDK is some flawless masterpeice and one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever made. It's got its flaws, sure, but that doesn't mean that it's not still a really good movie.

If Nolan had held back with Two Face and spent more time with the last act, TDK could be considered a modern classic.

If Nolan had held back with Two Face and spent more time with the last act, TDK could be considered a modern classic.

If he saved Two Face for the third movie instead of killing him off, it would've been better. And that was the original plan. Introduce him in the second movie, lock up the Joker, and then have Two Face as the villain in the third. Instead TDK used the Spider-Man 3 formula by introducing a popular villain at the end...and then killing them off in a rushed finale.

The ending was rushed and kind of sloppy, but I think I'd rather have Batman as a rogue superhero hated by the city in the conclusion to the trilogy rather than whatever they might have done Harvey Dent.

two-face couldn't carry a third movie with that motivation.  Did people expect for him to become the two-face of the comics or something? he just wanted revenge.  His role was like how Scarecrow was part of Ra's plan in Batman Begins.  Joker changed Gotham's White Knight into a freak who wanted to kill a kid because he felt like he needed revenge for droopy face's death.

That boring boat sequence was the worst part of the movie.  Other than Deebo kicking ass, it was just a really boring sequence that lacked any subtlety.  After it you had Batman talk about how Gotham won because Deebo was a badass and rich white people were wimps.  For a second you might think "YEAH! GET SOME!" but it was distinguished mentally-challenged since like everyone in the justice system was dead at that point, a hospital blown up, and tons of people dead.

Hmm, I fully expected Brannaugh to take it in a dark-age Norse epic direction. This looks fully in line with the scifi/medieval blend that Kirby(?) created. Interesting.

Thor looks good. Simple design. I like the color contrast.

Are there any Thor TPB's ala stuff like The Long Halloween, ie: gritty and violent and not cheesey?

Try the Walt Simonson collections. It's a bit dated but still holds up really well, I think. A lot of it has the feel of genuine myth. And Thor turns into a frog, and a talking horse Thor from space also shows up.

Disposable White Guy and I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street tonight. It was pretty boring. What a waste of a cool Jackie Earl Haley performance.

However, one of the leads has the dumbest face, as if he is both confused and shitting all the time, and I think we spent the better part of about forty minutes laughing hysterically every time he was on screen. Hell, even when he wasn't, his dumb face made me laugh. :lol

Saw "Die Hard 4.0" on Blu-Ray after waiting too long. I heard it was closer to DH2 than DH3. Most of the movie is about Die Hard 3 levels of reality and storyline, when suddenly it shifts to Die Harder's level of cartoon physics at the end. Super lame.

I love a good action movie AND I'm OK with unrealistic action, but they have to be internally consistent. Establish the rules for the movie up front, then let everything play out from there. DH4 gets to the 3 yard line, says "screw it" and just spikes the ball and breakdances into the endzone.

The Goebbels Experiment

It's just Kenneth Branagh reading passages from Goebbels' diary (he kept one from the 20s right through to the end), matched with corresponding period footage from Germany

pretty fascinating, but i could have done without the horror movie soundtrack

you get to see him all burned to fuck like a curled up dead spider

even the russians looked aghast at the sight of his dead children lined up :(

Sure.  Quarantine is basically shot for shot remake from what I heard.  Although I think Quaratine had a different explanation for what was going on in the movie?

Rec1 spoiler:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
In Rec at the end it was explained that there was a girl who was demonically possessed and sent to the vatican and then since the vatican couldn't control her, they sent her to the penthouse of this apartment along with a priest in order to experiment on her and she was the original cause of everything that happened in the movie

I have to say though, Rec 2 had some creative, cool stuff.  It almost felt like a video game.  Like watching Resident Evil/FEAR.

For instance
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the whole "world is different with the lights off" thing was very fun and atmospheric and cool.  The part where it switched over to the kids and showed their story was neat although I wish it had split the story into the two groups at the same time working together communicating with each other over the helmet and cutting back and forth to their two situations.  All the demonic stuff was alright too.  Just didn't like that ending.  It's basically gotten to the point now that EVERY HORROR MOVIE ends with the good guys all dying and the monsters/zombies/demons win in the end.  What was once a shock surprise is now just a boring unsatisfying cliche.  It worked at the end of the first Rec because it was kind of realistic given the situation they were in.  But the end of Rec 2 just made the whole thing seem pointless, meh.

I just watched it and I don't have a problem with that since the "END" ending will probably be in the next movie and the good guys will win (somehow).

It wasn't ANYWHERE near as bad as the first mnovie where you had no idea what happened to the girl or why this virus even existed in the end (which is just massive blue balls).  It was a decent popcorn thriller and now it at least set up the third part pretty well.

What do you mean?

A lot of the lines are extremely corny, and the situations are just so ridiculous they make me laugh. My friend introduced me to this film, and when we saw it we were cracking up pretty hard. One of my personal favorites is when the Green Day looking kid is playing the trombone, and then randomly smashes it. Or the part where that same dude gets hit by a car. Or when the main character is talking the ghost of his friend.

I like The Chumscrubber because unlike other really thick-laced indie films it goes so far over the line of sanity that it stops being annoying and pretentious and becomes hilarious.

Were you high when it was hilarious?

I did laugh when the Green Day looking kid identified a jet as a "F-17 Tigershark".

When I saw that film for the first time I hadn't even been introduced to weed. I dunno, I find most indie films laughably stupid. Or any film in general that tries too hard to get a point across. American Beauty, Requiem for a Dream, I just can't take movies like that seriously when the movie takes itself so seriously.

The Young Victoria - loved the political aspects and family aspects, HATED the romance which was clumsy and awkward and had the male essentially emasculated due to protocol, but then he spends the movie kind of "oh how i do wish that i were by her side" type crud.

Bigger Than Life- great story about a man who went a bit wild with cortisone back when it was still experimental, and how his psychosis caused him to turn into a raging monster at work (where he was a school teacher) and at home.  Ends with Walter Matthau in a fist fight.  I really liked the lighting and shot set ups for this film, but despised the "happy ending" coda which just felt so flat compared to the rest of the film.

Zombieland- hey, a movie that actually did live up to internet hype.  I was highly entertained and the gf who hates horror LOVED this.
