Oh wow, another catastrophically bad movie about a toy robot line from the 80s.  I think I figured out why I get borderline frothing  over the Transformers movies. Their success makes no fucking sense to me.   Anytime I can't square something with logic, I get miffed. Is it just the cg?

SO MIFFED.

What I'm miffed about [at least as far as the third movie is concerned] is that the teaser is actually pretty awesome and is a great setup for a scifi movie. Unfortunately, it is, in reality, a setup for the THIRD Transformers movie, which I have absolutely no interest in.

Also, why do they make a big deal about finding the crashed ship on the moon when they knew about, and had Megatron in cold storage, since the 30's?

Never seen Rocky Horror, and to be honest, not that interested in it either.  I'm not even sure what it's about.

I find both Transformers movies entertaining, the first much more than the second.  Even Michael Bay said the 2nd was a mess.  But I'll defend my position that Transformers is a competent and entertaining blockbuster.  Nothing more.

I wouldn't watch the third movie in a theater because you can't fast forward through the "story".  The second movie was actually pretty fun if you only watched the action scenes.

I wouldn't see it in the theater simply to avoid loud black people and white chicks who tend to flock to those type of movies smh

Teaser would have been cool if it wasn't a Transformers movie

the double life of veronique - this film hasn't left my mind since having finished it yesterday. it probably tops my previous favorite film of his, a short story about love. though, i'm not sure what to make of it and reading the accompanying essays that came with the criterion release left me with more questions than it gave answers. i'm a sucker for these types of films. love iit.

wasteland - an amazing documentary on the convergence of art and life. the work that muniz's does is not only amazing aesthetically, but in its craftsmanship and concepts. it also focuses on the ethical issue of direct/tied aid and whether it's fair to come in and alter the course of a few selected individuals where it becomes next to impossible for them to return to their former lives and the benefits are short term? it has been an amazing year for documentaries. i'd put this film right up there with bill cunningham new york and exit through the gift shop.

Saw The Expendables again last night.  That movie is still awesome.  Loved it.  But on blu ray at home, the cgi blood is much more obvious.  Oh well.

Tangled

One of the best movies Disney has done in years and way better than anything Dreamworks has ever done [except Prince of Egypt, and that's a close one]. It's also nice to see a sincere fairy tale movie, instead of the snarky cynicism that's prevalent within the past decade. Glad I went to watch it in 3D, but now I want to see it on Bluray to soak in all the bright colors and amazing CG. Two thumbs up.

Let's talk more about Black Swan...

We came to the 6pm showing, and it's sold out. 7pm tix in advance? Sold out. Bought 8pm tickets right before they sold out too and planned on going to dinner/drinking in the meantime. Then after we bought them, the guy said, "You might want to go ahead and grab a seat... It's going to fill up pretty quickly." No refunds.

We are seriously sitting in the theater for 4 and a half hours to watch this fucking movie. So tell me everything you remember about it, paint a picture, and if I feel we got our $20 worth, we can leave!

My husband is being obnoxious and playing Angry Birds really loud. He's being "that guy."

Been sick all weekend so I just layed in bed and watched a lot of Netflix most of which wasn't worth talking about but I did see two incredible documentaries - Restrepo and KimjongiliaRestrepo follows a platoon of soldiers stationed in the most dangerous place in Afghanistan - the Korengal Valley. Kimjongilia is basically a series of interviews of survivors of North Korea and its death camps.

Both are on Instant Stream and both are definitely worth watching.  Good stuff.

Frontier(s) - terrible French Rob Zombie horror with some bonus torture porn.  French Nazi hicks abduct travellers and either feed them to some weird under-explained tunnel-dwelling freaks, eat them themselves, or induct them into their gang.  Gory, gritty, boring and extremely stupid, often outright nonsensical.

The Damned United - Michael Sheen is amazing.  Easily the best sports film I've ever seen and - as similarly noted by others - I don't even know the first thing about European kickball.

Just added Restrepo to my queue.  I've been looking for a good modern documentary on soldiers and most that I've found on Netflix have been just boring or made up of the usual shit.

I watched Cronos last night.  Very uneven movie.  It has some really awesome brilliant parts, then it has others where it looks like it's made by a high school drama class.  It definitely has del Toro's touch though.  His narrative style is stamped all over it and if that didn't give it away, the strong female character would.  Anyways, really neat concept on vampires.  Not so neat execution, but it's enjoyable.

Will watch when I get home.

POTC3 is the worst movie I've seen in theaters, and one of the most disappointing. The trailers were cool, and I actually liked POTC2. But the film sucked, and it was so obvious the crowd agreed - well outside of small children cheering and young girls squealing. But the thing I heard the most, whispered everywhere: "where's Jack?" iirc he doesn't show up for like 20min, and when he does show up it's the stupidest shit ever.

Give me more Jack, and the two funny pirate guys plus the captain who always has that cool "I was there 10 years ago..." scene.

It's a made-for-TV cartoon film about Fred and Wilma Flintstone's troubled marriage. Feels like a mix between an episode of Seinfeld and National Lampoon's vacation.

Yeah, it's really great film. I encourage anybody who's seen an old Hannah Barbera cartoon to find it and watch it. It's an excellent film. It modernizes and improves on the original cartoon in a much classier way than John K did with Yogi and The Jetsons.
