Bourne sucks AND Bond sucks.  :smug

What I want to know is, why does Jason Bourne punch that guy in the face THROUGH a magazine. Or is it "on" a magazine? Or should it be called "punching a magazine, which is covering a guy's face"?

Saw Fincher's version tonight. It was good. I know they always change books for film and some of these were also in the Swedish version, but I'm still wondering why they made some of the changes they did.

Also, way to fucking ruin a big part of book 2 fot those who haven't read it yet. Sheesh.

In some shots it worked in others it didn't. I wouldn't take it out cause then the movie seems a lot less interesting, watching it high was one hell of a trip.
The last shot in the film with the blue flowers was just stunning. The movie started and ended with gorgeous visuals.

Fincher's Dragon Tattoo was good shit.

Superior version confirmed.

Will be interesting to see if he does the next 2.

I haven't read book 2 or watched movie 2 (just watched the original movie 1 and now Fincher's movie 1) and I enjoyed the added stuff at the end.  This one felt much more fleshed out, especially with Lisbeth's character.

I also liked how he kind of blew through the murder mystery at rapid pacing and didn't dwell on it once it ended because honestly...it's not that great of a murder mystery story.  What makes the story good is the main two characters interactions with each other.

Pearl Jam Twenty

Cameron Crowe's latest project is a pretty good documentary and possibly my favorite band documentary so far. Encompasses every thing it can from Mother Love Bone to now, bringing new insight and info on a lot of what happened during the band's tenure. If you like Pearl Jam(apparently only I and etiolate do on this board) then check it out!
Worth seeing even if you aren't a fan for EV strung the fuck out at the Singles Party.

I don't know why Bond movies get lumped in with action movies. They are more espionage than anything else. Even the Connery ones had like 2-3 action scenes a movie tops. It really wasnt till the Brosnan ones where it became mindless action. They went back to the more drama/espionage movies with 2-3 action scenes with Craig. And the less said about the mostly terrible Brosnan movies the better.

Bond has (or at least should) more in common with something like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy than Die Hard when it's at it's best.

I mean the Bond movie that is generally seen as the best On Her Majesty's Sectet Service and From Russia With Love have barely any action at all. Like two small scenes in each.

I'm going to have to disagree with the assessment of the otherwise learned Cheebo.  Both From Russia With Love and On Her Majesty's Secret Service were by no means action heavy, but compared to any other film of their time they were stunt and fight extravaganzas.

particularily in that both of those films had huge and ridicoulous and awesome setpieces that are easily the best and biggest cinema action scenes of the years they came out (the helicopter strafing, the train fight, the bobsled/ski chase).  The aformentioned scenes are still very spectacular, but I would say that they're a bit over the top in terms of anything approaching what you would expect to find in a more staid, 'realistic' spy movie of the era.

For example, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold has pretty much nothing in terms of awesome powerboat chases.

License to Kill was all action because it was a revenge story.  The Living Daylights had a fair bit too, including a sick nasty cello case chase scene.   Timothy Dalton is the best Bond.

snow chase scenes are so good

Went to see Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, pretty good but the original films were better. This is no slouch though plus you get to see James Bond solve a mystery

Also saw a preview for HAYWIRE starring my waifu, Gina Carano. That movie could be two hours straight of her triangle choking random people and I'd go see it  :-*

Burke and Hare.  It was stunningly mediocre.  I had low hopes for it in the first place, but the beginning of the film was actually quite good and I laughed quite a bit, but as the film went on, it didn't seem to know what it wanted to do with itself, so it lost steam and then began to make little to no sense.  You could tell there were bits of previous drafts sticking out here and there which drug the whole thing down.  I'd avoid it, even if you're a huge Simon Pegg fan and the thought of watching him act onscreen with Jessica Hynes again gives you nerd chills.

xmas eve night was quiet, thankfully. we watched The Green Hornet. I giggled a lot, but was ultimately pretty disappointed. Seth Rogan as a boy-grown-tall is pretty funny, but he's largely unrepentant and unredeemed even at the end of the film; not exactly heroic. The few signature Gondri shots were the only truly enjoyable bits of the movie.

Actually ended up watching Delicatessen instead of either.  A girl I went on a date with last week recommended the movie to me when we were talking about Jeunet's films and I mentioned I hadn't seen that one.  Was pretty good.  The story felt like something Terry Gilliam would do; did a good job creating a neat scenario that could be done on a miniscule budget.  Definitely had Jeunet's visual style with lots of up-close face shots and colored lighted sets everywhere.  Had some real funny parts and the cast of kooky characters were good.  Thumbs up.  I still need to see Micmacs.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - A solid action movie with well-shot action. That's really all that you need to say about it. If you like good action, it's got good action. If you want story, well, you won't get it here. Tom Cruise is at his best here, suave and in control from start to finish. The other characters fill out their niche roles well enough, and there's some good interplay between them over the course of the movie. Brad Bird gets major props for pulling it all together and keeping his foot on the gas for two hours.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - A guided tour through the seven layers of Hell. It's dark, it's brooding, and David Fincher doesn't pull any punches. The way it's shot [courtesy of Jeff Cronenweth] and the music [courtesy of Reznor and Ross] all are perfectly in harmony to give the entire film and oppressive, surreal feel. Somehow a snow-covered island seems dark and ominous. The acting is top-notch is well, headlined by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara [especially Rooney, who takes over every scene she appears in]. Ultimately, it's a very compelling film that does fall apart just a bit at the end when you realize how convoluted it all is and how it's really just a murder mystery at its core.

Saw a bunch within the past week or so:

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Fincher can do no wrong. I liked this a lot - between the cold, dark aesthetic, the fantastic soundtrack (Reznor :bow) and a pair of great lead performances (Rooney especially impresssed me). I've both read the book and seen the previous film so I knew exactly what to expect from the story but I still really enjoyed the movie. It's not Fincher's best film but it's definitely a worthy addition to his great catalogue.

War Horse - I was a bit disappointed by this. I thought it dragged on a little in the first half or so and although there were moments of greatness -
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the scenes with Joey running through the barbed wire then getting freed were fantastic and my favorite part of the film, easily and I really enjoyed a lot of the war stuff in the second half
[close]
, the movie was a little cheesy and I definitely left underwhelmed. Not Spielberg's best work.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - I've never been a huge fan of the M:I movies, or of Tom Cruise for that matter but because of Brad Bird and the huge praise for the film I had to go see it. I'm glad I did, my favorite action movie of the year. Absolutely amazing action sequences (Dubai was so fucking good) with a great cast even if they probably could have dropped Renner and I wouldn't have even noticed. I missed having a good villain but I guess it's pretty hard to followup Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I'm there for a fifth movie, hopefully with the same cast (and Ving Rhames, please)

Andy Serkis had better get an Oscar for that. I saw it once in theaters and then watched it on Blu-Ray last week and it's even better the second time. You're right about the human stuff, but Caesar's story draws you in so well.
