It's likely MPAA reporting requirements, and you have all these people constantly watching those like they do Steam databases or financial reports to uncover stuff. They'd probably have to delay it well past the regular BluRay release in order to hide it.

I figure it's mostly more brutal Batman stuff. Like the guy all cut up and branded in the one trailer.

Either that or somebody said two fucks. I think you only get one for a PG-13.

if you can forget the film that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is a sequel to, and not notice the flat cinematography, the weirdness of the multi-accented yet fully English speaking cast of Asian people, the seeming cheapness of the production values, and the multiple plot holes, well then its sort of alright.

Michelle Yeoh gives a (/the) good performance in the film, and the action is frequent and pretty good. Not really up to the standard of a film directed by Yuen Woo-Ping, but then again neither is the rest of the movie. End credits roll by the 90 minute mark, meaning that all the not great stuff is hardly lingered upon in service of keeping things moving. A Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon sequel shouldn't be some sort of Frankenstien-ed B-movie, but the one we got isn't terrible. Hooray for surpassing low standards!

also, when did Jason Scott Lee's head get so abnormally large, has it always been that way? Seriously, that guy packs a hell of a noggin there.

Watched Spectre, wasn't disappointed like most people cause my expectations already where "normal bond movie". Kind of a shame they went back to old Bond, but the movie was still entertaining. Liked the long continuous shot in the opening and the villains. If Skyfall was a 10, this is a 6/7.

So much nonsense in Spectre. Particularly a shame if this is Craig's last run as Bond, as it's the weakest. On the "James Bond: Awesome!" Scale, Casino Royale was a 10 for me, QoS was a 7 if I'm generous, Skyfall an 8 or maybe 9, and Spectre was a 4.

The long take was truly amazing. I suspect it has a couple edits in it, or people would be making a bigger deal out of its accomplishment, just as they did with the long take in Children of Men. The action sequences were also very good, and I liked Bautista as this outing's Odd Job. But the whole story and the retrofitting of the entire worldwide organization to be tailor-made for Bond was just absolute silliness.

I watched some movies over the weekend.

Black Mass: some kind of movie. Watchable enough gangster flick with a pretty interesting true crime story in there. Johnny Depp was solid but Joel Edgerton's performance was dynamite. Man what an interesting character.

Redline: Wow. Some of the best animation ever, hands down. I was literally bouncing in my seat during some of the sequences due to the spectacle. Anyone that likes real awesome moving drawings should watch this

I don't really agree. I feel like it tried to be, not that it was. the whole China sequence wouldn't be too out of place in any old Bond flick, though.

I dunno, to me it's just the formula they try to nail every movie with a varying degree of success. Skyfall was a tad better at it than most recent Bond movies. On the other hand, Bond having daddy and surrogate mommy issues and the whole family estate stuff is the un-James Bond-est thing they could have done, seems straight out of Casino Royale (not the Craig one, the corny sixties parody).

Of course they do. They see all that MARVEL movie money and are hoping that the DC licenses eventually turn out to be something similarly tasty.

They don't care about Batman or Superman per se.

I don't remember anything from QoS so I'll put that down as the worst one. The retrofitting of the storry was really dumb, ok, but the villain was cool so :)

Ummmm Haven't seen Spectre yet but Skyfall is what went back to Old Bond. Hell, being like Old Bond is a big reason why Skyfall was so praised int he first place.

Skyfall was the grittiest Bond yet, Spectre is almost like a 90's Brosnan Bond again so I can't agree. Unless we are talking about different things.

The Witch - Nicely shot/acted historical drama about a puritan family unable to deal with life in 1600s...but not really a horror film at all.  I didn't know anything about the movie other than it was horror and had good reviews/word of mouth, but movie wasn't creepy/unsettling/scary at all.  So that was a little disappointing.  It's also a very slow crawl.  Was good, but wish it was scary.  I'm pro the modern art horror trend of retro style slow burn unsettling films like house of the devil or bone tomahawk, but this wasn't really unsettling and the slow burn build up didn't really pay off to a scary/creepy finale.  Basically, just good to know it's not a horror movie going in and is more for fans of The Crucible and early settlers family drama.

Also watched like half of Intolerable Cruelty which is one of the only two Coen brothers movies I never saw (because it was panned).  Maaaaaaan this movie is dated.  Like it's mid-2000s, but it feels like a mid-90s movie.  The Geoffrey Rush stuff at the start is super cringe worthy.  Hail! Cesar is like a masterpiece compared to this.  But maybe the 2nd half is better.  Billy Bob Thorton's performance seems pretty good.

Captain America The Winter Soldier
The Avengers
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Iron Man 3
Thor 1 or 2
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Chronicle
Dredd

My reviews:

Captain America The Winter Soldier - story is interesting and I like the baddie but theres waaaayyyyy too much plot and the pacing is fucked. Too much plot.

The Avengers - Probably bad, can't remember anything about it

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Fucking terrible fan service wank shit. Not a good movie on any level

Iron Man 3 - Actuallly quite good iirc

Thor 1 or 2 - 1 is pretty funny, 2 is unwatchably bad

Hellboy II: The Golden Army - I remember enjoying it but I probably had nothing better to do/had a buzz on

Chronicle - must watch level shit. Live action Canadian version of Akira minus the cool shit like motorbikes and orbital lasers. The teenage angst is literally palpable and the whole turning point of the story is lolwtfbbq. Michael B Jordan is a slam-dunk casting choice.

Dredd - real good future and killing. I found it real relate-able as I play a lot of action video games. The movie is mean

It looks better than I thought it would. But, Bill Murray is who elevated that movie from a screwball, sci-fi comedy into something great. There isn't a modern day version of 1984 Bill Murray.

how long did it take for Invasion USA to stop being morally bankrupt and irredeemably stupid, and start being hilarious? I ask because whenever that particular sell by date occurs, then I can issue a recommendation for London Has Fallen, which is even stupider, crasser, and somehow more violent then its already notably lunkheaded predecessor. Its also a significantly better action movie, with some more comprehensible (and just more in general) action versus its prequel.

Its also seemingly daring the audience to hate its protagonist, who crosses the line from 'steely badass' to 'lawful psychopath' well before the halfway mark. It brings back all the surviving cast of the first film, and then does absolutely nothing of note with most of them (Melissa Leo has her name on the poster for all of her maybe four lines of dialog). It handwaves away the issue of drone strike collateral damage while coming thisclose to being full on racist.

I'm too hardened to action movie absurdity to find any of this particularly galling, but your mileage may vary. If you're irony damaged like me, and can appreciate a well performed face stabbing or several you just might like this deranged, stupid, self-serious, irresponsible film. Or in about twenty years maybe it'll seem even funnier.

You're 100% right lmao. It would make more sense to simply remake it than do a sequel...but your point still applies: Burton is trash now so it would still suck.

I remember watching it at my deeply religious grandma's house as a kid and she was shook as fuck lol. She refused to watch it with us after the ghost stuff started.

It's a multinational coproduction done in France and Canada (a french TV channel and the SFX house Mikros chipped in along others) but the film is listed as american so Paramount must be the majority funder ? It's a classic of literature here so is expected to do very well in France, Benelux, probably Europe and a decent amount of international sales. Paramount handles the french distribution. It's a fairly large budget by European standards but it has a chance to do well even without the US market. Still kind of strange but the Hollywood majors have a tendency for that.

Edit: Did good in France, but not crazy good either.
