Um, excuse me, guys, there's only one best Batman movie and it's not any of the ones mentioned so far:

That's not even the best animated Batman movie :ufup

I miss when superhero movies were super fucking goofy but still had a dramatic backbone. Batman should be odd and goofy, enough with this super duper serious shit. Its all about balance.

No one should go see a superhero movie to question mortality, mortality, shit should be entertaining fun.

His ego inflated. His belly too.

Apparently his belly is under control again. He was pretty huge for a while. Whether or not he can make a comeback will likely be determined by his ego. He is rumored to be difficult to work with.

We are in this weird cycle where adults -- myself included -- have not put away their childish things, and instead the world has catered to making them ever-more grown up in focus. Dark heroes, R-rated cuts of a Batman vs. Superman movie, games which are too difficult for kids to play, comics are too expensive to buy on an allowance -- the newest Secret Wars is a $6 comic book.

It leaves me wondering if 20 years down the road we will be seeing a movie with Clash of Clans' characters in a reimagined dark world because that's what adults will remember from their childhood.

We're just at the inverse of the 80's/90s right now, where adult-oriented properties were retooled and sold to kids [Robocop animated series, Alien toys, ect.]. Eventually, people will get tired of it/the audience will move on and we'll enter a different cycle that people will complain about.

While what you guys are saying is true, I think Zack Snyder is probably the one to blame, and the main one to blame. While I think some superhero franchises can be a bit goofier, Snyder always makes something feel heavy and grimy for the sake of it.

An R rated Wolverine movie would be rad as fuck.

You know what, I'm going to join the "Batman Returns is the best Batman film" squad. Michelle Pfeiffer is the GOAT coke girl.

After MAn of Steel turned out to be a disjointed, incoherent mess, Snyder shouldn't have anywhere near BvS. Now I'm hearing that the flow of scenes are fucked up again. I can't wait to see it.

Snyder's sensibilities and talent are far more suited to adapting The Dark Knight Strikes Again than The Dark Knight Returns.

I got called out by someone asking me to prove that Zack Snyder was a shitty filmmaker. I didn't even bother with the obvious "Zack Snyder has done a better job explaining that than I ever could" rejoinder.

hell, some of them are much better then decent, all are better then any Marvel associated animated film I've yet seen.

Isn't it weird, like very strange, that DC/WB has done such an excellent job with its lower stakes, animated films but they keep whiffing at the expensive live action stuff. They have people making decisions who know what they're doing, but they don't seem to have any sway on the big ticket stuff. They really could gin up a crapload of fanboy enthusiasm real easy like, just give Paul Dini a huge budget and creative control and people would lose their shit over it, I guarantee it.

Watched Room two days ago, best movie I've seen in a while. Gave me plenty of them feels.

Also Spotlight was really boring, no idea why that was voted best movie. The movie is about the problems the newspeople face when uncovering a story. Problem is that the story that they try to report is much more interesting then the obstacles the reporters face. Also you never feel that the newspaper could actually fail to report the story so there is just too little drama.

Hearing really bad things from a couple people I know who have seen it. One noted the audience was visibly disappointed by the film, multiple groans and no applause afterwards. The trailers looked terrible but I assumed the bar for "entertaining popcorn action flick" was so low people would enjoy it like Transformers. But lots of reviews say it's boring and entire acts drag. Yikes.

Will word of mouth kill this or will the strength of the names win over. I predicted it would underperform but early ticket sales are really strong. Even MoS did pretty well. Eh...

Yeah, they were unlucky enough to have hired Zack Snyder to be in charge of the DCEU, their planned tentpole for the entire decade.

I am seriously baffled at that decision, to be honest. I don't know when they signed anything with him but it was pretty clear even before MoS what kind of movies you were going to get. Maybe he's an easy going dude to work with and good at not exploding budgets... ? Or they hoped Nolan seal of quality would sort everything out ? I suspect they would have been way better off by sticking with George Miller, but what's done is done.

I still will never understand why they just didn't give it to Dini/Timm. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

I'm not sure Dini or Timm wanted the job.

Plus there must be a fair amount of politics involved, DC / Warner always seemed to be one of those corporate nightmare with Brazil like bureaucracy.

Noticed Manabyte and some other big comic fans arguing the film is being persecuted as the first victim of a pre-planned "super hero fatigue" attack from critics. But even regular audiences are trashing it, this is not a conspiracy from official critics...

I've long argued DC doesn't have interesting heroes outside of Batman, which makes a film universe a bad fucking ideals you have shitty writers or directors. I fully expect Wonder Woman to under perform and this entire plan to fizzle.

LOL I remember people were saying that shit after Age of Ultron and then Ant-Man and Deadpool made bank and racked up high RT scores.

The problem isn't capes, it's Snyder. Civil War is gonna be huge. People gonna turn the fuck up for Spider-Man in a good flick, which hasn't happened in 12 years.

Or give it to the people behind the Arrowverse on TV.  While Arrow has gotten less interesting, they still have done an amazing job of building a world and introducing lots of characters.  I never gave a shit about Green Arrow but season one was awesome and Flash is getting better and better.  Still haven't watch enough of Legends Of Tomorrow yet.

Serious/dark isn't the issue. The issue (again) appears to be a mishmash of tone. There was a weird cynicism to parts of man of steel and it sounds like they just doubled up on it in this one. Why they can't just rip all star superman and blend it with TAS superman/batman I've no idea.

Plus shoehorning Lois lane into action shit  sucks. It was stupid in man of steel snd it sounds absurdly worse here.

Double plus Snyder can do cool visuals and action moments but dude is way too self indulgent. Probably looks in a mirror flexing during filming.

Something is obviously wrong with the way WB operates. Marvel paid like shit for years, yet they could still attract talent like Shane Black, Joss Whedon, the Russos, and Edgar Wright.

Who does WB attract? Fucking Snyder, David Ayer, and David Goddamn Goyer. That's the biggest tell to me that WB internally must be a mess of petty politics and subterfuge. With Marvel, I can easily see Feige holding absolute control and cutting all that shit out whenever he sees it.

Nolan must have been some kind of legendary fluke in the system.

Right place and the right time, probably. Nolan had some success under his belt, but wasn't a big name yet so they weren't worried about ego getting in the way, and apparently restarting the Batman franchise was something he really wanted to do.

I think WB bought into the idea of superhero fatigue and ran out to grab whatever they could asap. IMO they should have let the mcu thing wind down and then develop their own thing. Part of what I think hurts them now is that they look like an also ran, and marvel has for better or worse conditioned audiences to expect a certain look and feel for these types of movies.

Yeah instead of chasing the marvel train they should have pushed some alternative. Instead taking 3 years to make this they should have been doing the WW movie a lot sooner. Give people something they aren't getting from Marvel. Give Batman and Superman a rest, push stuff like Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, FLash, Aquaman etc. Hell maybe dump more resources into your tv stuff and by resources I mean talent along with money.

I mean I don't really understand that critsism. Sounds pretty dumb.

Tony is supposed to be smart regardless of the suit and Iron Man 3 actually shows that more than any of the other ones where he does more than rely on his suit. It also actually deals with a vulnerable and mentally weak and somewhat over paranoid which is complelty Tony in the comic.

Also the villian kind of happens as a result of Tony's arragonce and general assholeishness. Which is the most true to character thing.

So I'm not sure how it's not true to the comic book character since he's tottaly in character. Unless you mean the suit just doesn't go bang bang enough which is a lame attack on the movie.

Ya the whole point of the movie was for Tony to realize he is the super hero not the suit, which is picked up in Ultron in the first two scenes.  First Tony leaves the suit to explore the castle, second when ultron bots attacks during the party, he jumps at one with a screw driver instead of trying to get in the suit.  It also builds on the whole idea that he's very vulnerable, which sets up the whole ultron plot and I'm guessing civil war as well.

Iron man 3 had more character building than most of the other marvel movies combined.
