Watched Deadpool. It's a good solid entertaining comedy super-hero flick. It didn't blow my mind and Deadpool as a comic character doesn't always land for me but it hits more than it misses. And it executes on a formula well enough for it to be an enjoyable experience. Because it takes itself less seriously than most super hero movies it works better than the self serious tone the rest of them are striving for.

There is no way it keeps up. Movie will barely make MoS money, and that's only cause of Batman in the title.

Holy shit Interstellar is bad.  I blame TVC for telling me it was bad, but not telling just how bad it was.

I really enjoyed it. What parts of it didn't you like?

For me: everything that wasn't on the tidal wave planet or involving Matt Damon. Basically 80% of the movie.

Wait.  You.....liked Damon in Interstellar?  ??? ??? ???

eh I kind of have to say their review is kind of bad. I kind of don't agree.

Just like with MoS, they seem to think a Superman movie can only be one thing. I don't see why a Superman movie can't be serious and can't deal with a "realistic" version of the hero. I think it is an interesting premise of how the  world would in fact respond to basically a god. In turn this creates a possibly good story arc for Superman. I mean they say Superman has no real story in the movie, but I thought it was clear that its really about a dude questioning his role as a hero in this world which of course runs counter to Batman's perception of him and Lex's desire to make him fit his perception of good and evil.

I mean I think the thing is Lex is just jealous and hyper paranoid of meta-humans.

Batman V Superman has some good story ideas and themes. I do think it's poorly told and the movie has a lot of problems.  I do think that Superman himself shouldn't be so grim and dark, but that dosen't mean the character shouldn't inhabit certain stories.

I also don't know what their problem with Wonder Woman was. She was pretty great and I did'nt see any problem with her during the battle. Hell we had glimpses of an actual personality!

Watched The Devil Rides Out and save for a couple cheapo SFX and the fact that Christopher Lee was obviously contracted only for a limited number of days ("Well I'm going to the British Museum even though I'm the only one who can save you from imminent mortal occult danger, see you next reel"... Twice :lol), it's a very solid Hammer film, thanks to a decent story (Matheson was involved) and your usual Terence Fisher visual greatness. It's nice to see Lee playing the squarely good guy for once, Charles Gray (The other classic Blofeld)  has a very intense performance as a satanic high priest and breaking from the overly gothic style by setting the story in the interwar period is a welcomed change of pace.

Watched the New Pee Wee Movie on Netflix.

meh. It's average. Not especially good not completely unwatchable. Doesn't really capture the comedy aspect of Big Adventure but not as awful as I remember the sequel being. There is an interesting gay subtext thing going on although its not overt or anything which is probably the most interesting thing in the movie. Will probably never watch it again though which is why its meh compared to Big Adventure which was very rewatchable.

Saw a new 4k remaster of Kurosawa's Ran in theater. I was much more involved with the film than with my first viewing, maybe I was too young back then to appreciate this serious tragedy : As you probably know it is an adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear in your typical Kurosawa warring feudal Japan and it ends up with a father seeing everything he built undone by his sons, everyone's dead, and non existent or powerless gods. The film is still long in the tooth at point in its second half, there's a loooot of Nakadai making crazy eyes & playing mad among ruins although I must say that for once the special heavy "aging" makeup didn't bother me and is working fine. The lead character sometimes has outright blue skin to convey how weak he is and the contrast with other actors is pretty impressive.

Will probably see a 1945 Kurosawa movie next week too : The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail. That one will be totally new to me.

Pretty insane how many useless metrics are sucking the air out of a lot of internet discussion (in general, not that post in particular) about mass market entertainment products. I mean does it express anything meaningful that Xmen movie 57 is 2% over other superhero stuff in an arbitrary aggregate ?

I'm usually skeptical of witch doctors claiming to read in the mind of the collective consciousness of movie goers (if you'd believe producers, good weather is bad for business. So is low temperatures.  :doge ), but a very steep plunge like that seems to map out with poor word of mouth and getting rekt by reviews.

I maintain that the obsession over box office shit correlates with the PS3's failure. Once NPD Day became little more than "let's see which console outsold the PS3 this time," Sony tards became box office prognosticators and abandoned the gaming forum. Now any discussion of movies revolves around gaming-like fanboy shit. And Ntards and most recently Xbots joined in the fun after their favorite playthings bombed too.

I was just making a prediction lol, I hope they're both excellent movies. But I also think people are under the impression Apocalypse will be terrible just cause of the trailers, when Singer has a pretty consistent track record.

Trailers are basically meaningless, people thought BvS had an amazing Comic-Con trailer and look how that turned out.

X-Men: First Class was directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-ass, Kingsmen.)

Brian Singer has directed X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now X-Men: Apocalypse.

NO LIES: This was when Superman movies peaked:

Faora.  :lawd

Even if this particular clip doesn't have the annihilation of the local IHOP or Faora and friend ripping out the cockpits. You can still rent a U-Haul and visit your local Sears.

Man of Steel never needed the ridiculous Metropolis fight when it had this one. Same for BvS really, smaller scale fights were better.

Matthew Vaughn is a way better director than Bryan "Jack The Giant Slayer" Singer. Let's not even joke about that.
Is he ? Singer is average (Giant Slayer was ok tho) made director. Kickass was trash however, grimdark version of a mix between Orgazmo and Spiderman... But I haven't seen the rest of his work. Unless he's the Layer Cake dude ? That was Ok but trying too hard to be smart.

One thing with the new Superman movies compared to all the other comic films is they've all been life suckingly long.

X-Men and Deadpool are under two hours. Superman II, X2, XDOFP, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are all under 2:15. Some are just a hair over two hours. Same with Batman and Batman Returns. Guardians of the Galaxy. Actually, everything MCU except the Avengers films and Iron Man 3 has come in under 2:10. All the Spider-Man's after 2 have been 2:20+.

MoS is 2:25, BvS is 2:30, Returns is 2:35. All need 20 minutes or more cut out of them. At least that's still less than TDKR which needs 45+ minutes cut out of its 2:45.

I hope Suicide Squad isn't longer than two hours.

I think this is part of the supposed animated DC paradox. They trim some of those a bit too much down.

They could have cut out "Lois throws the spear in a puddle, then 30 seconds later has to get the spear out of the puddle, then drowns in the puddle." That would have shaved 10 minutes off the runtime right there.

I mean  X-men is pretty much about a family of superheroes and their ongoing bullshit.

I think half the problem for me is that it hasn't really been an ongoing story, just monster of the week sequel movies.
