I felt the same, Keanu got cast in so many mediocre films after the first Matrix that he wasn't really on my radar anymore.
Then the first John Wick happened and the 2nd showed it wasn't a fluke. John Wick 1 has the best story, but 3 definitely has the best action.

In between John Wicks Keanu is still mostly doing all types of mediocre TV series and movies  :doge

I wasn't as hot on John Wick 3 as you, i wasn't happy with some of the editing choices and i thought many of the fights actually lacked some of the impact the previous ones had.
There still no substitute for throwing a bunch of underpaid stunt peeps off windows, through glass, into concrete, like good old Hong Kong (and more generally Asian and SEA cinema) did, but they're still a beacon of excellence, for sure.
But like, John Wick 3 wasn't all that better than some of its recent clones, like Atomic Blonde or even stuff like Villainess, which themselves were pretty good but not great.

I think modern Mission Impossible movies are the apex of Western action cinema, at the moment.

I'll say though, with the focus on guns, JW cuts itself a more peculiar niche than The Raid movies did (another action world wide hit, that blew up massively for whatever reason).

The Gentlemen - I'm an extra-extra-medium sized fan of Guy "Fieri" Ritchie's brit crime films.  This one manages to have a touch of his old stuff but has quite a bit less obnoxious bantz largely due to some of the main characters being American and the main British character actually doesn't tell a sarcastic cocky joke every other word.

Doesn't have the "action" of some of his other films which also grounds it a bit.

Really enjoyed it;  I especially liked the old white guy explaining to the young black man why him being called a "black cunt" isn't racist, but actually a term of endearment.
This is the best movie of 2020 so far and in a just world would win all the oscars  :yeshrug

Yeah. I watched 'The Room'. I thought it was a good movie actually. It is about a house where there is a room that grants you any wish. The movie does quite a good job of showing you how something that can grant you any desire can quickly turn into a nightmare.

I love 70s and early 80s Spielberg. He tells fantasy stories, but everything is so grounded in reality that it makes the fantasy seem more vibrant. The set design, the actors, the locations, the lighting. Actors have messy hair, they sweat, nothing is perfectly manicured.

GOD WILLS IT!!

Did you watch the 'good' directors cut extended version or the butchered theatrical release, during those times so many films got butchered  :-\

Also if you like that sort of history there's a decent show on Netflix called Rise of Empires: Ottoman, which is sort of a docu-drama type of thing about Mehmed the Conquerer besieging Constantinople.
You have to tolerate a few wanking Turks but I liked the premise, setting and overall execution. It also helps that it is narrated by Charles Dance.

Director's

I watched it in theatre too but it was back in 2007 and it was a part of a 3 movie marathon and so long ago I can't remember whether it was the Theatrical Release of not

Parts of Kingdom of Heaven were super shitty though.

So I watched Blood Machines. And I was thinking, "that's got to be the biggest breasts in the universe".

It's in 3 parts. It's basically presented as a series. It really isn't a series though. It's basically a 50 minute movie cut into three parts. I guess for whatever reason, they decided on that format. Perhaps because they were unsure how to categorise it.

A single breast that needs to be presented as a series of 3 parts does sound fairly massive.

Those breasts are quite something. Anyone who has seen the movie will know what I am talking about. lol

Looks closer to Inception than i'd like, but i'm still interested.
I thought Inception was a bit of a turd, turning an interesting sci fi concept in a Call of Duty chapter, with Anime amounts of exposition.
Hopefully this'll skip those pitfalls.

I thought the same and had the opposite reaction. "Oh neat, I wonder if this will top my mid/high expectations just like Inception did back in the day." :P

On rewatch it's far shallower and showy-er than my first impression but I still really dig it. I also like Leo, JGL and Cillian a lot so that biases me, versus say Dunkirk which really didn't have any actor I liked. Inception left a bigger impression on me personally.

Edit- Would also take Inception over TDKR and Interstellar.

I only watched Inception once when it came out, but i remember getting really frustrated with them explaining very basic concepts 50 times, and then spending the other half of the movie in ridiculous set pieces, when the concept itself could've been explored in incredible ways.
It had some impressive visual moments though, which is expected from Nolan, but i wouldn't want to take it for granted.

I loved Dunkirk, though,  his best movie since Prestige.
He's the kind of director that should let the images talk, in my opinion.

The end of Inception really felt like a video game, but it was sort of a 'virtual/dream world' to begin with.
Still I think they could've done more with the dreams concept and less with the Bond-style action scenes.
A great film though.

TenneT equally looks great and something about the tone/vibe I'm getting has made me excited since the first teaser.
I wonder when they'll drop it.

I watched Inferno, the late and latest adaptation of Dan Brown shitty novels by Ron Howard and man it was a huge letdown. Granted we weren't exactly following it religiously but the script is a needlessly convoluted mess and the tone is all over the place... It begins like an horror movie ? Then is nakedly trying to ape Mission : Impossible, Bourne (A LOT) and a ton of other things with the camera work being obnoxious as fuck. Tom Hanks Langdon suffers from movie amnesia so you don't even get the hilarious lectures. It's made even worse because the plot is about a billionaire engineering a pandemic to prevent a Malthusian catastrophe. All the stupid pomp of Church is replaced by battling the most middle management evil agencies ever and Tom Hanks being chased by Italian drones. It's not even a good showcase for the tourism offices of Firenze and Venezia, the only cool location is the Hagia Sophia.

Angels & Demons was hilarious, this is just grating.

The only good thing I can say about it is that the romantic interest of Tom Hanks is played by a woman "only" 12 years younger than him.

Dude.

Da Vinci Code itself was so hilariously bad that I couldn’t stop laughing. I watched it with my mom, who became legit worried that she was missing out.  “Is this movie a comedy? Why are you laughing so much?” Brown is an airport novel hack who got lucky. That’s all.

Why would anyone want to invest in movie theaters? :neogaf
It depends on how long Amazon entertainment endgame is. Amazon is making original entertainment, including original movies. However no film can be entered for Academy consideration unless it has had a theatrical release. If Amazon wants to ensure that their movies are up for Academy Award consideration, this allows them to guarantee a theatrical release.

I will watch it later.

Watched The Accountant by Gavin O'Connor with Ben Affleck and this is some tasty, glory schlock.  :lol The story is so outlandish with Ben Affleck being both Forrest Gump and John Wick somehow, the writing should be downright offensive at points but it's very competently made and feels very earnest despite how dumb it is. It has that very cosy feel of always being ahead of the plot but in general just enough that you're expecting payoffs rather than dull disconnect.

Action is not bottom of the barrel either. Discount John Wick but the direction and editing is never grating or annoying.

I had a bad dream that Donald Pleasence sometime in the 90s had made Halloween rip offs where all of his dialogue was monologues from Halloween 1 ever so slightly altered and the baddie was just some middle aged guy in a plain white mask, but this footage and audio never was used for anything until the mid 00s when someone tried to stitch it together into an unrelated movie and because Donald had been dead for a decade, they had to resort to things like using a Loomis action figure for stop motion and in this story he got cursed and they just tied the Loomis figure to a black cat and played the audio of his monologues.

Felt bad, man :goty

This really isn't far off from where the franchise was headed.

Something that no one ever really mentions, but must have thought about, at least for a moment. Video recordings in a modern movie. Where are people getting these really old 1980s video cameras from? lol

I kind of get why they do it. They want to make it obvious that what you are watching is a video recording and not what is actually going on in the movie. It's still kind of funny though watching like this really low quality, fuzzy recording when even a dirt cheap piece of crap camera could produce better video quality. Also, why are there scanlines? How old is the TV you're watching it on? Why is it interlaced?
