The real reward in Fable is the love of your family and the admiration of Albion. :smug /molyneux

That's another thing - obviously I didn't expect to feel love for the dog (jesus christ Molyneux shut up about love in videogames), but as a dog lover IRL I'm surprised I have absolutely zero emotional attachment to the dog at all.

Mission failed miserably Lionhead.

The game has the best fantasy environments ever, by a wide margin no less, but it could really use some real mountain ranges.

I'd probably have to go with Planescape: Torment on this one.

Bloodstone is nothing like I had expected it to be. I had imagined something truly seedy and vicious, but it's like any other town, only with prostitutes and assassins.

Free means you can play co-op with someone who actually bought it, but you yourself cant go to Knothole Island, I believe

I believe I'm nearing the end of the game, and I think I see what you guys have been saying about it being small. Given the similarities between the (very nicely decorated) environments, how small the areas generally are between loading points and how little of the environments you can actually traverse, it feels more like a small county than a magical world. It's also oddly light on cool enemies like trolls. It feels like there should be more of the world available, which makes me suspect that this is going to be heavy on DLC.

Knothole was kind of rubbish was it?

I must say I'm enjoying the game a bit more now that I've been around Wraithmarsh and Bloodstone a bit.  Quite a lot of quests are popping up which is good.

What a weird end game. The Perfect World bit was amazing, but then it all culminates with me not fighting the boss, but playing a damned music box at him? Good grief. And then there was some idiotic bit with Hammer where she talks about how great friends we are, which made no sense since I had spent very little time with her. I guess that's fat chicks for you. So yeah, weird ending.
[close]

The game after the end is already proving to be a bit better, but with kick ass weapons already in my possession and with 3 spells already maxed out, there hasn't been much of a challenge, ever. I think that if you get into the whole village thing, with owning property and interacting with all villagers and townspeople, this would probably be a lot more satisfying. I still have Knothole to finish, but I doubt that's going to happen any time soon.

You know, it really is fucking cheap how they attempt to make the world seem larger by simply adding hours to the travel times between sections. And it makes no fucking sense that there would be 20 or so hours of travel to a place that I can actually see from the other area. And honestly, these low-end enemies should be running the fuck away from me at this point, what with my renown, assassin's outfit and glowing weapons. Bring on the trolls.

:lol This gets me everytime I travel from Bowerstone Market to Bowerstone Old Town in particular where I can see it right in front of me yet arrive a couple of hours later.  Brilliant!

Did the pirate ship quest last night and it was pretty neat.  As usual, the reward was rubbish - $12,000 doesn't make much different when you're carrying millions around.

The co-op works pretty well in this game though, I played it a bit this weekend.

I'd say the game is somewhat frontloaded, which I suppose has something to do with the sameness of environments and enemies. You get this "big" world to explore, except the actual explorable areas are strikingly similar from the last. Bower Lake being one of the prettiest areas in the game might be responsible, too. Not a bad game, but I don't think they really remedied many of the important shortcomings of the first game.

I agree with that. Fable II is a fun game to play for a while, but it never really overcomes the problems that plagued the first game.

-Worlds are MORE open, but still not THAT open.
-Interaction is more diverse, but still simplistic and very easy to master either way.
-Companion are still fairly useless.
-Marriage can produce offspring, but there's not much you can do with them.
-It's STILL not really allowing you to live the entire life of your hero. It's all in steps that stop short of old age and death.

Aside from its focus on a few key areas, it still not really that much different from any other action-RPG out there.

Actually, I liked Hammer quite a bit, and felt a little touched by her growth as a character. I was surprised there wasn't a path available to get busy with her, since you can boink just about anyone else in the game.

I didn't really mind the  ending at all; it felt more heroic and "story-like" to be able to finish without having re-re-replay the boss battle a bazillion times. A friend of mind says he always makes the penultimate boss the really hard fight, and makes the final one challenging but not joystick-smashingly difficult.

The problem is that there are no truly challenging fights leading up to it. Even that shard thing, I don't know, it was just a matter of killing off enemies with area spells and shoot the shard. It would have been cool if the game had pitted you against someone that was at least in some ways your equal. It felt a bit flat.

The pub game items are in the free version of the DLC. You don't have to buy anything to get them. You DO have to download a big file though. I agree that it's still fucking stupid. Just slightly less so now.

strangely enough i've gotten back into this lately. There's something charming about a small girl calling me Nobhead

The Knothole DLC isn't anything great but it's some nice new quests with more puzzle solving. I like the whole different looks due to weather for the same area, it does lessen the impact of running around the same space over and over.

I've been trying to get all the properties and tie up some loose sub-quests. I still dont like the combat but everything else in the game is fine with me.

Some of these achievements are shit too.

After 20-30 hours I'm really getting into this more.  I was roaring towards the end but I stopped before the last mission and slowed down and it's been a lot more fun.  And I've accepted I'm going to get those distinguished mentally-challenged will lines no matter what so have been going spell-crazy.

Bought Knothole last night, haven't really played it but the sunglasses I got are pretty neat so I'm happy.  I'm kind of looking forward to the next DLC too, I want to get the DLC before I finish everything else in the game.

I finished the game the other night, the ending was OK, but I was more interested in the extra couple of quests.  Unfortunately I then accidentally reset the game while it was saving and corrupted the save file :(

So I started again and it's taken about 7-8 hours to get back to Bloodstone.  At least this time I saved those dumbass monks so there was more property to buy in Oakvale.

There should be, that'd be a kickass achievement.

It'd just be one more "find all the flags/gargoyles/pigeons" Achievement, except that it would have a money prerequisite. Disputable fun factor.

Actually, that brings up something that's been bothering me lately: playing JUST to get an Achievement has led to me doing less exploration and emergent gameplay tomfoolery JUST for fun.

There's nothing preventing you from owning all the property, and you would be able to claim more of a 100% completion that peeps with The Completionist... but without an Achievement associated with it, there's less drive -- right?

I'm not much into fetch-quest or grinding achievements, they can be pretty dull.  But this is the sort of thing you'd pretty much do when playing normally.

But it isn't hard to find all the property, and you don't have to grind to get enough money but invest it early on into property which then earns you enough for more property.  I'd get a good sense of achievement from owning the whole land and what that involves (investing your funds and traversing all territories), so it strikes me as a good candidate for an Achievement.
