Yeah I've wasted a good 20 bobby pins on safes that only hold stuff like a finance report

I've started backing out of the lockpick minigame if I press the pin too hard or am taking too long to find the spot and saving a lot of pins this way.  I've got a good collection of now (after getting down to ZERO).

Also, for peeps running low on pins, Evergreen Mills has quite a bit if you haven't been there yet.  Hell of a lot better than running around in the tunnels chasing feral ghouls.

That's one issue I've had with this game. Bethesda seem to still be throttling when items appear in relation to the story line (I think). I broke into Rivet City's armory, used a Stealth Boy and took out the robot protecting it just so I could unlock four Very Hard containers that contained absolutely nothing. What the fuck is that about?

Either way, the experience you get from picking Very Hard locks is worth it, I guess.

Also, as far as lockpicking goes, a good technique is tapping the torque (screwdriver) to the left and hear/see the bobby pin jump but don't put so much tension that it makes it shudder. Keep doing this and moving the pick until the lock starts to give. Keep using this technique to push the lock further up but not enough to stress the pick (pushing and letting the lock drop but not all the way, keep pushing and turning). You'll eventually find the sweet spot.

On Very Hard, the sweet spot is insanely small but its there. You just have to make very small tweaks when your near the "sweet spot".

If I only have a few bobby pins left, I'll save before trying to unlock a Very Hard lock.

I do that too. It's also good to back out when you've pushed a pin too far. Just keep retrying.

Some Very Hard safes have good shit. Some contain 300caps.

Max out your Repair skill and then pick up weapons from enemies and repair them and sell them.  Easy way to get mad caps

Also, play the game on Very Hard.  It's the most balanced difficulty...otherwise the game will be too easy.  I was a beast by the end and dominated combat even on Very Hard so I imagine the lower difficulties would be cake.

from the fo3 wikia:

Quote
Are drugs in the game?

There are various drugs, and each has its own positive effects and side-effects if you get addicted to them[12]. Initially, the real-world drug morphine was included in the game, but because it caused the Australian rating board to refuse classification of the game, morphine was renamed to Med-X

there is a way to get that gun without killing here, but it involves doing the Reily's Rangers mission.  I did that and got the Ultra 10mm smg legit, but she has no importance past that.

Nah.  It would have been a problem if I wasn't planning on killing her anyway.  I just did it kind of early in the quest and didn't get much use out of her.

As far as the autosave thing goes, if I fuck something up, I just deal with it.  Nitpicking events is a big frustration for me in games like this and infrequent saves amputates the temptation to do it.

Nuka Grenade = motha fucking awesome. I love my character, he excels in Small Arms, Energy Weapons and explosives. So I can fuck up Raiders with my Sniper Rifle/Energy weapons and blow up the bigger monsters with my custom explosives. Two well placed Bottlecap mines will take out a Deathclaw. Having just put in for Explosives Expert perk, one might be enough.

how did you get it? is it a lot better than the standard hunting rifle?

I'm now hunting down the super behemoths for the achievement. It's pretty much a must since the battlefields these guys appear in are epic. There's this one in an industrial zone to the East that features a bunch of mini nukes you can trigger from afar. A sight to behold when you set them off. The game continues to amaze, even when all the quests are done

It's in the museum of history, top floor, middle room, in a glass case.

It is waaaaay more powerful (damage is double that of the hunting rifle), but it uses .44 rounds.  You'll probably still have to carry around a regular hunting rifle (or Ol' Painless, ideally), busting out the repeater only when you really need it, otherwise you'll end up going through your ammo supply pretty quickly.

Hardly anyone uses the .44 magnum.  Raiders and super mutants are generally carrying assault rifles, shotguns and hunting rifles, making ammo for those weapons more plentiful.  You're stuck purchasing or randomly finding .44 ammo.

I'd presume because the guns that use them are so powerful, they don't want you able to rely on using them for the entire game. I just stockpile them until shit gets bad with mutants. Raiders and the like are easily dispatched with my hunting or sniper rifle.

Lincoln's rifle kills the scoped .44. I'm pretty sure it's more accurate, does waaaay more damage, and can be repaired with common hunting rifles. Plus it's not only named unique, but it also looks unique too.

I found Ol' Painless. I don't know exactly but I think its quick at crippling body parts. Its fast as hell (compared to the Hunting Rifle). I just read online that it has 0 spread outside of VATS which means when you shoot an enemy in FPS mode the shot stays true every time.
