If McCain actually does win, I honestly don't know what it would be like.  It already boggles my mind that there is even a race between the two.  I'm all for accepting other peoples opinions, but in this case I can't grasp who anyone would look at Palin and be like "yep, I want her to make decisions for the next 4 years"; actually you can just cut that all out and wonder why they don't see Obama and aren't immediately filled with the desire to see this man as the leader of our country.  Well, I have a feeling of what its like.  It's probably just sitting back waiting to get nuked or some sensation similar to that.

Good luck and what state are you in?  Can you like say about what proportion of voters there are black?  I've heard that black registration is up to around 90% in some areas like Georgia according to Nate Silver and that a lot of black people mailed in their ballots to avoid getting screwed with 8 hour lines.  I just know that there's going to be some weird thing that happens with the black vote this election.

I am in Kentucky (for now)...not many black people in my state, nor in my voting district.

The line was unbelievable this morning...I got to my polling place 5 minutes before they opened and was 47th in line.  I asked one of the polling officials and she said that there were 719 registered voters at this polling station.  When I left the line was just as long as when I got there....it is going to be a long night for everyone.

+1 for Obama.

YOU THINK I WANT TO BE RIGHT? I fucking hate white people. I want to walk into an old folks home and watch old white people cry and eat butterscotch as Obama gives his victory speech. Then I'm going to flood the no spin zone with fart sounds and uncontrollable laughter. Nothing in the world would give me more joy.

I got excited in 2004 when Puff Daddy told me personally that every thing was going to be alright. Look what happened.

I remember liking the way Al Gore talked as a child and look what happened.

I talked to my dad this morning (I had to explain to him that Obama's birth certificate had been produced a long time ago and that the Department of Health in Hawaii had confirmed that he was born in Honolulu, not "Keen-ya" as he puts it).

Though I think he's calmed down from last night, he's still the same ol' "amiable racist" who jokes that we'll be eating chittlins and watermelon and that "Hail to the Chief" will be replaced with "Hooba Dooba Hooba Dooba" and who says, "Make sure to vote for all the white folks!" with a laugh so that he can get a rise out of me. :-\

At least he actually pronounces Obama's name correctly now, instead of saying "o-BAM-a."

Went to the local polling station, a small elementary school, around 7:45AM before work. There were people there but it wasn't really too crowded. Went to the front desk, the woman told me what table to go to to vote, so both my mom and I went over there, and voted (both Obama obviously). We didn't have to wait at all, we were in and out in a few min. I remember the 2004 election having a bigger, more hectic turnout. It was actually pretty anticlimactic this morning.

Didn't get an "I VOTED" sticker either.

McCain ran a horrific campaign which he compunded by picking Palin as his VP. I wish I could have voted for him, but he gave me no choice. May be a cop-out and that's fine. I don't really care. Take it as my doing a tiny little bit to punish the GOP and send a message that they need to get back to their conservative roots. I'd be lying if I said McCain's vote for Social Security for illegals didn't play a pretty big part.

Last election, there were 4 people at my polling station when I showed up shortly after opening; this year, there were 20 people in line by the time I arrived 20 minutes before opening, and probably 50-60 in line by the time I left. Soooo many people, turnout is going to be insaaaane.

McCain didn't really inspire tried and true Republicans from my experience.  Many conservatives I know, who are voting for him, are doing so for what they believe is the lesser of two evils, much like liberals voted for Kerrry in 2004.

I don't really think it mattered who was the GOP nominee. McCain probably was the best choice from an experience/C-in-C pespective, but there was little beyond that. And realistically, I don't think the re-incarnation of Ronald Reagan could win in this environment. The party needed a serious purge. Today will provide it. I just hope the religionist wing doesn't double down and take things further right. If Palin and Jindal are the top choices in the spring of '12, then they're in deep shit regardless of Obama's performance.

The problem with the republicans was their choices all felt like Bush 2. And even most republicans are really rited of Bush. Heck it was either Ron Paul or Bush 2. I guess republicans just swallowed the most palatable candidate.

The problem with the republicans was their choices all felt like Bush 2.

That's why McCain was a fatally flawed candidate. He opposed Bush on both tax cuts and the Prescription Drug Benefit - arguably the three biggest Bush initiatives besides the Iraq clusterfuck. But, there's no way he could have run on that because the base would have gone apeshit (especially the tax cut part). So, he had to adopt the tax plan and take the hit for Bush's fiscal recklessness even though he opposed it.
