man, SD pulling out mid 90s Rush Limbaugh boner fantasies is pretty awesome.

Between the Falcons having a winning record and a black man becoming president his worldview is collapsing

hopefully 2012 will bring us a new republican president who's white and smart and ready to mix it up

The Newsweek story is great so far (I'm into chapter 2 now).

i'm going to dig out my bloom county book which features Milo and his grandfather hunting for the elusive Liberal and put it online

the hunting call is "no nukes, no nukes"

"Socialized medicine!"  I remember a girl in middle school who was digging a Bloom County compilation I brought in until she read that one.

Can I just say I'd love love love to see Gingrich run?

I think he'd have a very good shot at the nomination.  If you think Republicans will sink a candidate they otherwise love because of some non-gay sex thing, you're way underestimating their capacity for cognitive dissonance.

He'd get absolutely slaughtered in the general.  Along with Goldwater's thumping at the hands of LBJ it would provide bookends to the newly dead conservative revolution.

PS Newt's intellect and wonkishness are completely overrated.  He's an idiot's image of a smart person.

So what GOP member is viable for 2012?

Three more years until George Prescott Bush can legally run.

So fucking true.

I cannot believe for a moment that anyone would think that he would stand a chance.  If that is what passes for intellect in the Republican party the Dems will have control for the entire 21st century.

The GOP has long since purged their intelligent members.  The fact that Newt is hanging around with them is a good sign that he isn't as smart as people make him out to be.

Sarah Palin is the child of Nixonian politics and represents the new generation of Republicans.  The audience responses to McCain's concession speech are telling

"well i guess obama wasn't a real liberal or democrat, because things are good"

OR

"clearly we were saved by our brave senate and house minority heroes"

Quote
-- McCain also was reluctant to use Obama's incendiary pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a campaign issue. He had set firm boundaries: no Jeremiah Wright; no attacking Michelle Obama; no attacking Obama for not serving in the military. McCain balked at an ad using images of children that suggested that Obama might not protect them from terrorism; Schmidt vetoed ads suggesting that Obama was soft on crime (no Willie Hortons); and before word even got to McCain, Schmidt and Salter scuttled a "celebrity" ad of Obama dancing with talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres (the sight of a black man dancing with a lesbian was deemed too provocative).

wow @ his campaign advisors

partial :bow @mccain.  too bad he didn't uphold his ideals Completely, but at the least he is more a man than many of his slime colleagues

Quote
-- The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for the Democratic primary debates, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

You know, despite the nasty campaign, I find it difficult to stay upset with McCain.  I can't really explain it.  Actually, it probably has everything to do with Sarah Palin.

South Park was awesome. One of the best ones I've seen, really lighthearted, no completely random weirdness or anything, and pretty funny parody of the Ocean's movie. I'm not sure what was pro liberal about it, other that McCain supporters thinking the sky is falling (which is accurate from everything I've seen lately) and that the fake Palin acting dumb on stage, also accurate. Great episode.

You know, I like Huck, too, although I'd be terrified if he were anywhere near office.  Maybe it's the same thing with McCain, but having a healthy sense of humor about yourself goes a long way towards making me think you're pretty cool, and both McCain and Huck have displayed this trait.

I actually think North Carolina was the most surprising.

This is a place that voted Jesse Helms in four times and then Elizabeth Dole.  I haven't forgotten the 1990 advertisement he ran against Harvey Gantt.
