This game is amazing.

I've made 8 runs through the demo now and still haven't had an experience which was the same. Love it. The new bar has been set for co op gaming online.

Long term PC version will win out thanks to mods and total conversions. Not to mention quick rollout of extra content on steam and not getting wallet raped like we will on xbox live. I still look forward to playing this game many a night on 360, and hopefully MS won't be dicks to valve about extra content like they are with TF2.

Beat it on the hardest difficulty. This game is so awesome I want to cross swords it on purpose under the sheets with the lights on with oil. Resistance 2, Gears 2, whatever shooters come out all got brutally fucked by this.

I probably wouldn't be able to play this on consoles since you need to be both accurate and fast. It runs perfect on my PC with everything maxed out and looks really damn good. Source still amazes me.

Yea, this game is fucking incredible. Best co-op game ever. Gears 2 just got fucking shit on. L4D is the COD4 of 2008, while Gears 2 is the equivalent of Halo 3.

From the description it just sounds like a co-op FPS where you run around and shoot zombies while running together towards and objective. Seems like it would get old. But everyone is very impressed when playing it in person. What is the secret?

I'll try the demo on Tuesday and see for myself, but until then can someone explain how this is different from a free co-op mod of half-life with zombies?

Like most truly great games, its greatness is hard to put into words. Yes, you just run around, towards an objective, and you shoot zombies. Has happened 100 times before, and will happen 100 times more. Yet, while other games are garbage, L4D is game of the year.

How? Who can say. Why is jumping on slow things and over pits in Mario genre defining, and garbage in Bubsy. Who can say?

It's all about the execution, silly. L4D's mechanics are 10x better than any amateur mod.

If the 360 demo is as good as many have made it out to be, I might double-dip on this shit, just so I can play with my 360-owning friends and also play split-screen with a buddy on my incoming HDTV. It's that fucking good.

And yes, there is single-player, Kranz, but it kinda pales in comparison to playing online.

FUUUUUUUUUCK this game is so much fun! Very arcade-like, kinda like FPS Gauntlet versus zombies, or better yet Resident Evil Outbreak DONE RIGHT. Things were going well for the most part until some dickhead started teamkilling me because I took "his" health pack.

But whatever. I am glad to see you can also do split-screen (it appears you and a friend on the same system can play online?) and that there IS a single player campaign where the CPU will control the other characters.

Damn it too many games to buy!

I showed L4D to two friends who are last-gen console fegs and they were both very impressed. Before, they both wanted to get PS3s because of Blu-rays but the combination of Gears 2 and L4D have put lots of doubt in their minds.

I know it's just a demo. I know it's missing versus. And I only played it once so far. But this is already a serious GOTY contender in my book, holy shit! I never really got into Valve's previous titles but this is just awesome. They nailed the zombie thing better than anyone else ever has. It feels intense everywhere you go, and really never know what the hell is up ahead or how many zombies are out there waiting for you.

not really seeing the appeal from the demo. the action feels kind of primitive, and the zombie animation is shoddy -- running zombies are one thing, but these are keystone kops zombies. but then i have no special affection for the zombie theme. make mine gears horde mode

I don't think I'd enjoy it without the co-op aspect. I'd get burned out on the constant streams of zombies rushing at me. Co-op makes it a fun experience and has you sticking together, working together, scared together.

I am not a fan of zombie games or movies, but the opening cinematic really hooked me. I thought that everything animated fine and the gameplay was simplistic but arcady fun. The graphics were alot nicer than I thought they were going to be. Might have to pick this up.
