ehhhh there seems to have been a change in style, but if it stays in the highly scripted and mobile style of the rig chapter (as opposed to the relatively static, entrenched style of the first game), i think i prefer gears 1. i don't think anyone anywhere prefers zoe 1. but anyway, i guess i've just started, and i blieve in cliffy

The rig sequence has been the world part of the game, and the next bad segment doesn't come for a long time.  The bad segments are the obviously scripted bits like that rig, boss fights, and vehicle segments.  The actual core gameplay now is just so much better than Gears 1 and thankfully there is a lot of it.

The new weapons in this game are also all amazing.  It's funny how Resistance got a lot hype for having cool weapons, but Resistance 2 failed to deliver there while Gears 2 delivered satisfying new weapons.  I would go as far as to say that any single weapon you pick up in Gears 2 is fun to use, it's just a matter of how fun they are to use.

I didn't mind the rig. It wasn't bad. I'm playing in coop on hardcore. The BAD parts are STILL the parts where you split up and it's GAME OVER if you die. I don't know how that survived from gears 1 to 2!

Well, at least this shit is being laid on another console. Scheduling the beta for another Sony published game right on the tail of Resistance 2, that was just shitty all around. Especially given how that one is.

I'm playing it on normal.  I'll probably play it again on harder later on if someone wants to do co-op.

And for those who have it, we should set up a horde match.  I'm eager to try that out after I finish the campaign tomorrow.

I think the name really says it all, it actually scorches the enemies into ash.  It may not be a very good flame effect, but I don't care, it burns people good.

then you go to http://gearsofwar.xbox.com and sign in like you would on xbox.com and save them to the computer from there

I doubt that's the problem; the styles are very different, so they are easy to separate, and very hard to directly compare. But the GOW2 MP screens I've seen posted have mostly looked cluttered (or "detailed"), very UT3ish in appearance. In contrast, the SP has seemed to be in a whole different realm of quality.

Haven't touched the multiplayer yet, but single player looks really damn good.  If I was to give a comparison, I'd say that the screen shot posted up there looks like a wii port of the game compared to how good the single player looks.

I still have some problems with it in areas, but I blame the engine for that.  In general I think UE3 is unable to make natural looking environments look, well, natural.  Even so the caves look really damn good, but there is a section later on with ice that looked bad.

visuals are AMAZING in places -- that sunken city particularly -- but a lot of the time it looks like gears 1. and since gears 1 there have been a lot of things that look like gears 1. i think the tracer fire has been improved though -- and atmospheric effects generally

Just played the whole game in one co-op sitting at my friend's house. The early acts look like Gears 1, but the later acts get pretty insane and varied. Some of the environments are fucking awesome.

This game is long as fuck compared to 1... TVC and I just pulled basically an all nighter (well for me), and we only made it up to like 3/4 into Act 4.

So far, I like it better than the first one, even if only because so far, it lacks the terribly annoying parts of the first game.  Lots of big baddies and much better (if not still very silly) cutscenes also help.

I don't really have any serious complaints.  The game looks and sounds great.  Every part that I think is about to be annoying (like carrying the bomb or the vehicle sequences or the split up parts) ends up not being bad at all.  I hated the vehicle part and the split up parts of the first game, and so far the sequel has been good on those.

The underground shit is fucking amazing.

There's stuf that looks straight out of fucking lord of the rings, and stuff that looks out of Aliens, and then there's this fucking ass monster that comes out of the water, and it's just "wow".

Non Underground stuff doesn't look as good, but there's city stuff at the end that looks awesome too.

Don't give up, it gets better.

Also hold RT to make the mortars go farther...I couldn't pass the sequence until I did that.  Then the brumak went down in a minute.

The one spot where I was ready to sell the game was the very first part of the rig sequence.  Damn cysts and their tiny hitboxes, then the damn reaver.  After that, the scene was a lot better.  Still having a tough time readjusting to analog sticks...I haven't played a console shooter in over a year, so this shit is all janky.

I couldn't hit them with any of my weapons either, so I used the turret. Much easier.

Edit: I thought you meant shooting the mortor shells out of the sky.

Just hold the friggin trigger until the distance goes up.

1) Lancer the cysts (short burst fire, don't hold)
2) Then run to the turret gun and use it to take out the reaver

The cool down trick with the turret is necessary as well (hold down RB to cool the gun down faster.) 

I had to gamefaqs that part, I don't wanna admit how many times I did it.     but otherwise, the game is pretty easy on Hardcore.  I've noticed that the hardest parts involve unintuitive strategies that aren't the core gameplay (killing brumaks, reavers, defending the rig, etc.)

This game was incredibly awesome.  I'm gonna do some multiplayer modes after lunch, but yeah, the campaign was so great.  Maybe the best exclusive Xbox 360 game.

How this and Resistance 2 got similar scores boggles my mind. Hell, how this scored less than Gears 1 boggles my mind.  Game reviewers are stupid.

action goty.  didn't think the 360 could be pushed any further.  the cover system feels much more organic than the first and even weapon switching seems to have gotten faster.  active reload has always been my favorite gears feature though.
