Aokiji isn't going to be admiral. They're going to go with Akainu. With a bunch of pirates rioting due to Whitebeard's death and pretty much the renewal of the great pirate era, who would want a fuddy duddy peace loving tree hugger as the admiral of the marines? Akainu is going to do anything to get that position.

strong world is pretty eh. good villain, decent fights, but the crappy nami fanservice and plodding first half kinda kill it for me.

Just watched it and it was ok.

Nothing too fancy IMO.

Had a few jokes and the final battle was cool, but kinda disappointing since it was written by Oda himself.

as for the Nami fansevice it wasn't so bad.

The Blackbeard scene was hilarious and awesome.

Good to know that Blackbeard is still an awesome fun character like Luffy and he's not gonna be boring and overpowered like some shounen baddies coughcough*aizen/sasukue*coughcough

I like how he has sentimental attachment to his little raft, which is why he's always using it :P

It's crazy how many characters are being setup to actually be important major characters down the line.  Donflamingo is crazy psycho, Traflagar actually seems like he'll be a good rival to Luffy, Akainu is taking over the marines and making them fearsome, the other rookies are all doing their own thing.  Impressive stuff.  There's so much story Oda is going to be able to get out of these characters and that's not even including all the new characters he'll introduce in the new world arcs.  This 2nd half of the series is going to be LONG and full of OH SHIT moments I think.  But I guess when the first half went over 10 years of weekly chapters...you got a lot of time to cover things :)

Cool that all the support crew are going to get real major powerups and not just one new attack or something.  But actually changes to their character fight styles for the next half of the manga.

Also really like the flashbacks.  This is the perfect way to really tie things together from the first half.  Reintroduce the character pasts, connections to luffy and their goals.  If there was anytime to kind of pause and recap a bit to pull everyone together as a crew, this would be the best spot.

It's so hard reading this part of OP at a weekly pace because there's just SO MUCH to cover that it's going to take a couple months of these transition chapters before we settle down into normal storytelling again.  But considering how much Oda is making use of each page and conveying lots of info every week, it's about the best you can do and you really wouldn't want him to rush through this stuff since it's important.  It'll take months but I think it'll be a strong transition arc when looked back on in volume form.

:bow Oda :bow2

Gaffers saying "oh why did he run away when he has two devil fruits blahblahblah" really don't understand Blackbeard.

Reason why he survived this long and still kicking ass is because he doesn't give a shit, fight when you can, beg and run when you can't. and of course, it's part of his charm as a character.

I don't think you know what filler means - especially when the same content was covered in the manga - but Shanks having another arm was :rofl

In fact, the way the manga handled the Ace flashback was spotty. The anime did a MUCH better job.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-11/one-piece-59-sells-1.85-million-to-set-1st-week-record

Quote
The 59th volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece  pirate manga sold 1.853 million copies to top Oricon's weekly comic sales chart during the August 2-8 week. It set the record for highest first-week sales since Oricon began releasing its Japanese book ranking charts in April of 2008. The previous record-holder was the 57th volume, which sold 1.691 million copies in its first week in March. The 10 latest One Piece volumes, dating back to the 50th volume in June of 2008, have each sold over 1 million copies in the first week.

Quote
One Piece #59 already set the overall manga record for most copies in its first print run with 3.2 million copies.
