Duckman freaks out; goes on a paintball shooting spree

Looks hot. And some reviews are in, seems like they did pretty alright. Good to hear that the A.I. is plenty good.

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_7488_en.html

Oh yeah, and apparently the demo difficulty (easy) did in fact affect the response time and general smarts of the enemy. Go figure.

Game looks amazing, thanks for the link.

Pre ordered already, kinda sucks the game is still so far away, it feels like the game should be hitting the stores tomorrow, with all the reviews and media being released. Weird.

So you do trust these reviews. You don't they'll lead you astray like they did with COD4?

Some I do, some I don't, even if "trust" is a poor choice of words. I trust my own impressions from playing it, and some of that (good and bad) can be found in a few of the reviews. If anything, the consistency is most surprising; given the "I want it to be exactly like this other game I play" attitude in some previews, I thought the controls and pacing would throw more reviewers off.
Anything else you need to know? If you want bitching and counter-bitching about reviews, there are at least two threads on GAF that should more than satisfy.

There seems to be one thing where KZ2 really fails. Now, from the reviews, and videos, what we have here is a game whose developer was very smart, in the sense that they picked what they liked best about other great franchises, and made a game around it. Sure, they have their own spin on the "feel" of the controls, and motion, but that's superficial, that's icing on the cake, not the cake itself.

Now that ain't bad, it just means that the developers decided to focus on a polished and "safe" product. But there's one thing that they missed, they try to emulate Gears of War 2, in the whole tough guys cursing, but they completely miss it.

In Gears, they sound funny, and cool because it's all very bad boys 2iish. Here it's not, it just tries too hard.

I think that may be because the developers are not native English speakers. (I'm assuming the someone at GG wrote the script.)

Remember when people scoffed at Guerrilla staff for claiming that the A.I. was crap because it was set to "easy?" Turns out they weren't full of crap after all, at least if you're to believe the reviews. Difficulty settings allegedly affect reaction time and general combat ability.

I don't follow games or post on forums often, but naturally I assumed they were demoing the game on the normal difficulty. The game looks spectactular, now if only I hand interest in playing another FPS. Beta was fun but I think I've had enough of this genre for the time being, should make a great pick up next year.

The demo is basically just a part of the first level though, right? Would be nice if it was some other level (with more intimate street fighting), but I assume they are going to want to demonstrate this fancy dress in a familiar environment rigged with explosives.

Demo is really, really short.  It's also pretty damn good.  The aiming was a bit wonky at first, and it really feels like it needs a quick turn button, but I got used to it within 5 minutes (3/4th the demo length).

I also somewhat understand the midget thing.  When you're up close to another enemy, or squad mate, you're at bj height.

I changed it to CoD style at first, but when in cover, it's awkward to do both L2/L1 at the same time to aim when leaning out.

and yeah, the death animation is crazy.  I was walking up the stairs at one point watching this guy slowly die, grasping his chest, and all that.

and the load screens are the menu from Smash Bros, but with Sixaxis

I didn't have a problem holding down L2, but you might want to try L1 toggle. I'm going to experiment in the full game to see what feels best.

Damn that was really fun. Played it twice. The music is so good.

I think what would be perfect is Alt 2, but when behind cover R3 also acts as the aim button.  Melee isn't used behind cover, so why not? also, if they had toggle crouch/cover, it would be another solution.

Yeah, that might be optimal. I'm not having too big of an issue to be honest, and I might try standard 1 again. It just feels weird after most shooters have you hold L1 and not toggle l1.

We need a demo thread.

What kills the controls is not having crouch being toggled.  I use standard 2 b/c I bought those real trigger things that make the DS3 almost like a real controller.

Go to cover
Hold crouch
Press up/left/right on left stick to see enemy from behind cover
Right Stick to zoom
Right Trigger to fire

Holding crouch just over-complicates it.

I didn't mind the lack of crouch toggle in the beta, but yeah, there's nothing wrong with options. The only major control issue I had in the beta, once I had gotten used to movement and aiming, was with the sight aim being toggle. Never got used to that.

You can turn it to hold in the demo. I moved to alternate 2 (l1 brings up ironsight), which I quite liked, but I can easily understand why people have trouble holding L2 in that case.

I am sort of reminded the way Medal of Honor does its controls.  You can lean and peak when zoomed in.  But again, you toggle crouch with B/O and use left trigger to zoom.  I'm sure I'll get used to it, but first time through, I felt very uncomfortable fighting the ememies.

This might sound like backwards advice, but try playing it with low sensitivity. I noticed that in the beta, I first had issues because I felt that no matter the sensitivity, it never felt fast enough. And I think that's just it, it's not designed to be fast, so it ends up not feeling right. It also had far less auto-aim than any console shooter I had played recently, so slower aiming was almost necessary. So actually lowering the sensitivity to 50% horizontal and 25% vertical was the sweet spot for me.

I still think the game, and really any FPS, needs a quickturn button, at least when using SMGs and ARs. Have the character bring the weapon overhead or something.

Is this the killzone 2 demo thread?

I thought the demo was bad.  Maybe all the hype just set expectations too high, but the game feels super sluggish like you're walking through mud at all times.  Is there no run button?  Also I hate the long well-animated animations.  Sure they look cool in VIDEOS when you just want to watch good animation, but reloading takes forever and that's not fun.  One thing I really didn't like was how much of the screen your gun takes up.  Makes it hard to see what is in your view.

Also the graphics remind me of why I hate the PS3 and its gimped setup.  The textures are meh and FEAR2 on X360 shits all over them.  The game tries to hide that it looks like a PS3 game by MOTION BLUR EVERYWHERE but it's way too much and gets annoying.

It feels/looks like Resistance but slooooower and with a different color scheme.

I don't understand how hype could have affected anything, when the heavy feel has been a known thing (that may not appeal to everyone) since the beginning. And yes, there is a sprint button.

There is a sprint button?  How?  It doesn't tell you anywhere in the demo.

A sprint button would help my enjoyment A LOT.  The game just felt so slow that it was unfun.  I need my FPS games to be a reasonable speed.  In R2 I hated that you could only run in bursts as I would always be holding the run button down because the default speed was too slow.

I don't know which button it is in SP or with the control scheme you are using, but I think it was R3 in the beta. It was a click and forget sprint, and you could sprint pretty far. That may be different in SP.

it's the same as CoD4.  Click the left stick in, then you just need to hold forward until you stop.  It tells you on the control screen.

what are the controls?

a blend between Rainbow Six and Call of Duty 4

sounds awful :yuck

Try the demo.  It's on the Euro store and download surprisingly fast for PSN.

The textures seem on the same level as R2 and most PS3 games.  I swear the only sharp looking game on PS3 is Uncharted.  I need PS4 ASAP so my Sony games can look as sharp as my X360 games.

There were some dodgy textures in the beta, but overall they were plenty sharp. I'd imagine this is different in SP since you are closer to cover. Overall, I think Guerrilla did one hell of a job designing a game that takes advantage of the strengths while minimizing the shortcomings of the system. And it really doesn't look anything like R2, in any way. It's a completely different look, and R2 felt largely like an incompetent developer trying to cram a 360 game onto the PS3.

It's not even that I really disagree with you about wanting less compromises, but your point of comparison is just whack. As is ignoring the strengths of it. Maybe those things don't come through well in the demo, but I've seen enough of the level to know that it certainly doesn't look like R2. The kid has command of the local Blu-Ray player, so I'm stuck arguing here until Wall-E saves the day.

Yeah, it's slower, but I think the game is designed for it. The Helghast come at you in a particular cone, though it's disguised pretty well, so you shouldn't do that much 360 turning. I love how weighty the weapons feel, and the controller pulse when you are at low health is awesome.

I tried Standard 1 and I think I like that a little better. Crouch really should be toggle. Oh well.

Then you should probably stick with a game like that. I tend to like both, different experiences and such. This feels a bit like GRAW.

As for the demo, toggle crouch/cover would definitely help, although I had gotten the hang of it pretty well by the end of the demo. Weird ending of that, too.
