What the fuck is up with Griffey? Is he trying to drag this out to make it look he really wanted to play for Seattle again or something?

A comment on the site speculates that Griffey is possibly trying to use the Braves to milk the Mariners for a little bit more, or vice versa.

Either way, just get this over with. Its getting tiresome to see the daily, getting more frequent, conflicting reports.

I honestly don't care either way, because if we have Griffey he's likely to be injured most of the time and platooning when he's not, and if we don't get him it's not like there's anyone else out there that we can pursue at this point.  Should have spent five million on Abreu, stupid cheap ass Liberty Media spending half a billion on Sirius XM...

Haha, that's hilarious.  So, this offseason, the following has happened to the Braves:

-screwed up trading for Jake Peavy after he said the Braves were one of the teams he'd go to (this admittedly is more the fault of Padres GM Kevin Towers, who had unrealistic expectations on what he could get for Peavy)
-failed to sign AJ Burnett.  He ended up signing with the Yankees for less than 1 million/year average than the Braves offered him.
-failed/screwed up signing Rafael Furcal, who ended up going back to the Dodgers for 1 million more per year than the Braves offered
-lost Smoltz to the Red Sox when we wouldn't guarantee him 5 million (can't say I really blame us all that much on that one)
-didn't sign ANY outfielders even after they became dirt cheap.  there's really no excuse for not signing Bobby Abreu to a one year deal worth 5-6 million when he signed for less than that.
-lost out on signing Griffey, which again I don't really mind but it would have been SOMETHING

4th place here we come.

So, MLB.com is hinting that the AJC story that broke yesterday played a part in the decision to go back to Seattle.

Quote
Griffey's negotiations with the Braves were moving at a steady pace until Tuesday afternoon, when the veteran outfielder learned of a report in The Atlanta-Journal Constitution which indicated he'd already decided to play in Atlanta.

Since then, Griffey had limited contact with the Braves.

Mariners president Chuck Armstrong is on Seattle Sports Radio KJR right now. Apparently Harold Reynolds and Willie Mays were instrumental in getting Griffey to sign with Seattle.

I feel like my mind is stuck in 2006. I can't seem to will myself to draft players like Scott Baker, Liriano or Nolasco just cause.
1. David Wright (NYM - 3B)
2. Lance Berkman (Hou - 1B)
3. CC Sabathia (NYY - SP)
4. Kevin Youkilis (Bos - 1B,3B)
5. Roy Halladay (Tor - SP)
6. Nate McLouth (Pit - OF)
7. Jay Bruce (Cin - OF)
8. Scott Kazmir (TB - SP)
9. James Shields (TB - SP)
10. Joey Votto (Cin - 1B)
11. Milton Bradley (ChC - OF)
12. Mike Aviles (KC - 2B,SS)
13. Chris Young (SD - SP)
14. Matt Garza (TB - SP)
15. Jorge Posada (NYY - C)
16. Heath Bell (SD - RP)
17. Joel Hanrahan (Was - RP)
18. Fausto Carmona (Cle - SP)
19. Yunel Escobar (Atl - SS)
20. Kenshin Kawakami (Atl - SP)
21. Shaun Marcum (Tor - SP)

Yahoo mock drafts suck. Holy shit, would it kill them to have more than 10 rooms drafting per hour?

and his numbers were probably inflated in that sandbox huh. good point.

I value good hitters despite their potential risk. Here's another one:

1. Miguel Cabrera (Det - 1B,3B)
2. Carlos Quentin (CWS - OF)
3. Manny Ramírez (LAD - OF)
4. Jake Peavy (SD - SP)
5. Roy Halladay (Tor - SP)
6. Chipper Jones (Atl - 3B)
7. Ryan Ludwick (StL - OF)
8. Ryan Doumit (Pit - C)
9. James Shields (TB - SP)
10. Mike Aviles (KC - 2B,SS)
11. Chris Young (SD - SP)
12. Adrián Béltre (Sea - 3B)
13. Matt Garza (TB - SP)
14. Erik Bedard (Sea - SP)
15. Chien-Ming Wang (NYY - SP)
16. Frank Francisco (Tex - RP)
17. Plácido Polanco (Det - 2B)
18. Orlando Hudson (LAD - 2B)
19. Jair Jurrjens (Atl - SP)
20. Jose Arredondo (LAA - RP)
21. Fausto Carmona (Cle - SP)

They had a run on fucking closers so I was stuck with Arredumbo and Frank Francisco. I accidentally drafted Hudson thinking someone else had drafted Polanco. Stupid.

My pitchers are stocked though.

Take a good hard look at Shin Soo Choo. From the All-Star break on last year, he was top 5 in OPS for the entire league. Early reports is that he is still smoking balls in practice and inter-squad games. I think he is still way under the radar for most fans and you should be able to get him late in the draft.

I dunno about Carmona. His K rate is way down, he has control issues and he came into camp overweight. But if you can get him as your last pick, it's worth a shot.

My league had its draft last night. But, I was unable to participate in the first 10 rounds or so because of class. Had my buddy pick for me until I got out. Instructed him to only pick the best available pitcher each round. Figured there are a lot less good pitchers than hitters and the strategy would allow me to trade for hitters later. Keep in mind this is a 14 team league, so the talent is a lot more spread out. Somehow though nobody wanting pitching. My staff is sick.

SP Daisuke Matsuzaka BOS (keeper from last season)
SP Jake Peavy SD
SP Rich Harden CHC
SP Chad Billingsly LAD
SP John Lackey LAA
SP Matt Garza TB
SP Andy Sonnanstine TB
SP Tommy Hanson ATL
RP Joe Nathan MIN
RP Francisco Cordero CIN

C Bengie Molina SF
C Jarrod Saltalamacchia TEX
1B Prince Fielder MIL (keeper from last season)
2B Chase Utley PHI (keeper from last season)
SS Ryan Theriot CHC
3B Carlos Guillen DET
OF Andre Ethier LAD
OF Nelson Cruz TEX
OF Delmon Young MIN
OF Jeff Francoeur ATL
OF Jordan Schaffer ATL

Any recommendations?

Get rid of Hanson and Schaefer asap is my recommendation.  They'll be taking up roster spots until mid-season at best, might as well find someone else willing to take a flier on them and get something (anything) useful in return.

Other than that, for a 14 team league that's a pretty good team.  Roto or head to head?
