I never used HP boost and my AI rarely died. It's not needed, and it's a huge SP sink (requiring 99 SP for each level).

There's a setting that makes the AI target enemies that are not currently being targeted by anyone. It's fight freestyle in the US version, dunno about JP. Fight Freestyle with Full Force or something.

Yeah I must have magic distinguished mentally-challenged AI because it seems I'm the only one having my party members dying constantly if I don't babysit them.  I had the same thing happen in SO3 where my party members would always die from MP death if I wasn't watching them closely.

It's not that the game is hard.  I haven't seen the game over screen once yet.  It's totally doable with Edge by himself vs. everything.  But it's just lame that I don't have a useful party to back him up and speed up the fights.  I mean I'll watch 3 party AIs go fight a single crab/bee/ant enemy and a minute later they still haven't killed him and I have to go finish the job.  Meanwhile I've killed like 4-5 of them in that same minute with just Edge.  The AI seems to do almost no damage to enemies and take tons of damage.  Totally useless outside when they heal me.

hp boost was only useful for my sarah and pink tits, they had weak hp that's why.

as for my edge and arumat, i equipped them with critical hit for massive damage.

So I beat it. Horrible final boss fight, just treadful. Bebpo you will not like the final boss fight  :lol reading your complaints for the earlier stuff you will not like it at all. Nice ending. Probably going to go back to TLR or do optional stuff.

Yeah I'm holding off on playing disc 3 for a while.  With my current medical state I don't think dealing with the stress from final dungeons of tri-ace games would be beneficial.   :lol

Plus I have my US X360 hooked up right now and too lazy to hook my j-one back up.  Will probably marathon disc 3 next month sometime.  Then finally play TLR.

So at the start of disc 3 I decided to stop being terrible at SO4 like I'm terrible at every SO game and mess with the battle skills.  I bought Critical and Berserk and maxed them to level 10.  Then at the start of battles I did taunt so the enemies would all focus on me and then berserk and then I sight-out -> 6 link combos (link combo is maxed).  I also still keep HP boost on so I have like 17k HP which lets me just mash this stuff in the face of anything even if I'm taking damage.

Suddenly instead of doing 150 damage per hit I was doing 4000 damage per hit.  Enemies would all die in 1 combo no matter how big and I fought the boss of EN-II and was doing 30k damage+ per combo and he died in about 2 mins and none of my party members actually died this time because the enemies just focused on me due to taunting and killing them fast enough.

And yeah, you know what?  The battles actually are fun in SO4 when you are doing thousands of damage per hit and blowing through enemies/bosses quickly with your party members staying alive.  I wish I had learned how skills worked earlier in the game as I think I would have enjoyed it more.  But at least I should enjoy disc 3.

One thing I don't like about SO4 though is how you get to a shop on a new planet and it only has weapons/armor for certain characters.  This means while 3 people in your party might have 700-1000 DEF, one person is walking around with 300-500 DEF and waiting to get owned by bosses.  Same with ATK.  You'll have 2-3 people with 500-600 ATK and then 2 people with 200 ATK who are useless now.  It basically makes characters who don't get new equipment useless unless you find equipment for them in the dungeon.  Since you go a LONG time between shops in the game, characters can be an entire 1/2 disc or so behind in equipment until you find a shop that has new stuff for them.  It's really unbalanced.

that because the fuckers wants you to explore the dungeons for the rest of the weapons missing in shops.

thankfully maps show up treasures with that distinguished mentally-challenged loli skill.

Final dungeon in the game, finally... most of the delivery quests done. Gonna beat the game, then try and tackle the 7 Star dungeon... but I have a feeling I'm gonna need to grind (only on level 80) to beat that one.

The hour long non-stop crappy cutscenes after leaving EN-II was really, really unnecessary.

I'm on the final boss and he's turning all my characters into pumpkins every 5 seconds and all I can do is CURE CONDITION CURE CONDITION CURE CONDITION while my party does 0 damage most of the time since it's hard to hit the crystal balls, especially for the physical attackers.

What a shitty boss.

Yeah, umm I'm level 55 :P

I just beat it but holy fuck how much HP did that boss have?  I was doing 100k damage per combo and it still took me 20-30 mins.  It must have had 10 million HP...wtf...I hate you Tri-ace.

This also is tied with Trusty Bell as the worst scenario in an rpg ever.  I skipped the cutscenes before the final boss because they just went on and on and I play tons of rpgs and never skip cutscenes, ever.  Tri-ace needs to shorten their cutscenes from 20 mins of blah blah blah to 2-3 mins.

In the end, outside of the battles, I hated about everything in this fucking game.  Terrible dungeons, super short (there's like what, 6-8 dungeons total the entire game not counting the bonus ones?), horrible story with some of the most boring cutscenes ever, shitty graphics, weak music.  Man, 6/10 am total.  This goes along with SO3 and SO2 in my top10 worst rpgs I've ever played list.  I like Valkyrie Profile but man I hate the SO series.

Why would you spend so much time on a game that you hate?   ???

Sometimes, you get wrapped up in a game in hopes it would get good, or the game started out good and got progressively worse, and you just feel compelled to beat it due to a completionist/OCD thing you have. That seems to be my experience, I've beaten quite a few RPGs I hated - Xenosaga, FF2 (twice!), FFXII... all of which took considerable amount of time.

I'm lucky I am enjoying SO4 a whole shitload. Hope to beat it this weekend, and get a good chunk of the 7 Star Dungeon done.

Man, the ending is sooooo long and you can't skip it to get to the clear save point.  I tried just leaving it running while going to lunch, but when I came back an hour later the ending had just paused somewhere in the middle because the controller turned off due to non-use.  Now I'm letting the rest of the ending play out so I can get my clear save and shut it off, lol.

Why would you spend so much time on a game that you hate?   ???

It actually wasn't that much time.  SO4 (if you don't do the optional side stuff or bonus dungeons) is only 30 hours long, which is the main reason I kept playing even though I realized I wasn't going to like it by the 2nd disc.  Like tiesto said, if you already put some time into a game, you feel compelled to see it through.  If it was a full 50 hour+ rpg I probably would've just shelved it.

Yeah, I didn't do any quests and I avoided enemies in dungeons when I was sick of fighting.  I did try to get all the treasures in dungeons though  My final pre-boss save was like 29:30, but that fight+ending should add a few hours.

Worst RPG on the 360 besides Eternal Sonata. The combat is decent (if you're using a melee character) and sometimes the graphics can look really good, but for the most part the game sucks. Story, characters, writing and voice acting suck and there's not a whole lot of loot. Well, maybe there is if you do all the optional stuff. I skipped everything I possibly could so I dunno. Can't remember how many slots you have for equipment... maybe 5 or so? Not a whole lot.

I liked it, but not for the story content... mostly the battle system and grinding aspects.
