I opened up the north territory a week or so ago, and then got hung up on grabbing a bounty that appears on the top of the snowcapped mountain. I tried and failed several times to get him. I was mauled by a bear right after camp-transporting into the area. It became a moral imperative to take this bounty in alive, but I kept screwing up. I forgot about deadeye, ended up marking targets on his escape horse which overlapped with his falling figure... and, yeah, bears.

Then I had a run which seemed to be working really well: I killed his henchmen, who came out nearly in a neat little chorus line for me, then the bounty target showed up without an escape horse, thinking to off me his'self. Finally, there I am on this steep approach to his hideout, just him and me, and I lasso him to the ground.

I hogtie him, and the UI reads "Pick up the hogtied criminal..." but in the very next instant, where I should pick him up to put him on my horse, the physics simulation kicks in and it treats the bounty-guy as any other inanimate object on a steep, snowy slope: The guy shoots away from me like a winter olympics luge sled and shoots down the path to the curve, and he zooms over the edge and off the cliff face. A moment later, the message changes to "Loot the body to get proof of the bounty." I started laughing so hard, I nearly killed myself trying to get down the same cliff to the body.

Good enough.

:lol i love it when shit like that happens

they need some of that in the multiplayer

Just got my copy back off my roommate, tried getting into free roam and I kept on getting booted due to "connection issues" then I finally got into a free roam, and couldnt get into a free-for-all match after that :( Is anyone else having trouble? Im guessing my internet connection was at fault here, hopefully things will be all good tonight.

Im dying to play some co-op missions, so if I see Eel, Ichi or Chronovore on I'll hit u up

co-op missions on advanced are no joke, you will get incapacitated endlessly

i passed into legend, wish i hadn't done it so soon, i forgot in advanced co-op there's a "no holds barred" class which lets you use all the weapons you unlocked in free roam, and all my weapons suck now

i miss you, buffalo rifle :(

Sweet, how are the advanced missions unlocked? Completion of all of the regular missions? I imagine you'd need a full team for maximum score also?

Continuing the single-player tonight, I got through level 8 Survivalist (12 prairie poppy) and halfway through 9 (15 golden currant), as well as finally finding three hard-to-find beaver (:teehee) for the Dædalus stranger mission, when I got greedy and tried to take on a cougar with a knife.

Bye-bye 90 minutes' progress.  :'(

Use the Horse Deed save trick when youre hunting and doing survivalist stuff. Just make sure you have two deeds in your inventory, use the crap cheap horse one, the use your good one again. You get an Autosave without needing to camp.

I unlocked the "Sack Toucher" title last night after dominating in a couple of Gold Rush matches. I then jumped into some co-op missions with some randoms. I was playing with a good french guy and I managed to gold medal 4 of the 6 missions with him. Just need to gold medal the river and ammunition (actually, still need to complete ammunition, its tough!)

Got gold medals on all regular co-op missions :punch I was surprised I got one for Ammunition, me and my team barely scraped through with a piss-poor performance, still got gold. Tried a couple of advanced missions last night, theyre tough! Very fun though. The trick is to just take your time and snipe headshots for max points. Golds arent too hard to get apparently. A shame you passed into legend Eel, a level 50 arsenal would be very helpful  :( My guy is Lvl 39 and Its all good, High Power Pistol, Carcano Rifle, Henry Repeater... booya

I was out of it last week, but I've still not finished the singleplayer, and I'm determined to get all the new "freebie" Achievements. Or as many as I can.

Ive got most of them now, they werent as hard as I was expecting. I just need a gold on the advanced version of The River for all golds on advanced, and the 10 kill-streak one (easy to do at the start of the herd, need to boost it though). Im more or less free this saturday Chronovore if you'd like to play some co-op.

That's the guy that does the Crackdown voice. "Agent, skills for kills. Skills for kills."

I played more single player, was off trying to survivalist boost. Cougar showed up, shot it a couple times, and went for my knife to boost Hunter with a knife-kill. Cougar ran away. Followed the cougar until I couldn't see it. Saw one of those bitch-ass cannibal guys that says "come visit my camp" so I rode up, drew my weapon and popped Dead Eye...

Only a knife doesn't have Dead Eye, and it's not what I expected to pull, so I brought a knife to a gunfight and was shot the hell off from my horse. DEAD.

Colorful language was used.

Anyway, it was a learning experience, since I tried your Horse Deed trick to save after that. That's a sweet deal.

I hope to be on this weekend.

You mean you finished the main story mission, or the follow-up one? If you haven't been to Mexico or the North yet, you've got a ways to go, even if you're not doing a mess of side missions..

Do you remember that weird horse that one legendary character was using when we were doing that posse?  I kept wondering if it was a glitch and realized no skinned horses look like that (no lower jaw, tongue hanging out, missing one front leg, looked like it had been clawed by cougars or something).  Was it a glitched version of one of the horses that's going to show up in the undead nightmare pack, or something?

It would probably just be too laggy.  If you play "The River" co-op mission, sometimes people with a laggy connection start flopping around and ghosting on the raft, and one time in particular this guy slid all the way off the raft and took me down with him.  I'd imagine it would be much worse if everyone on the Free Roam decided to converge on a moving train at the same time.

Could have been that, or it could have been a glitched version of the "Dark Horse" from single player that you get if your honor drops low enough.

The Free Roam pack will likely be free.  It contains an anti-griefing patch, and I doubt they'd split the public Free Roam user base by charging for extra hideouts, etc.

Just looked at the picture of the Dark Horse, that's definitely not what it looked like.  I would bet good money that horse shows up in the undead nightmare pack as some sorta zombie horse.

It's really kind of a rip-off when you look at it that way. :/

I'm kinda tempted to get the dlc pack with the Red Dead Revolver characters.  These DLCs are just way too expensive, though.

For the multiplayer packs I agree, but if the Undead SP missions are lengthy (say, they're as long as the side missions from the base game) $10 is a decent price.  I'll buy everything, but I've put a lot of hours into MP and feel like I've already gotten my $60 worth out of that part of the game alone.

Honestly I wish I was more into the MP side as I think the DLC packs are kinda cool. But since I'm not I'll probably pass. Although playing poker and Liar's dice with other people would kinda be fun.

I'm surprised there isn't a good XBLA version of something like Clubhouse games.

Holy smackerel. I'm impressed!

I was playing some more singleplayer tonight after our successful run on the co-op mission (discounting the later aborted attempt). I had been hammered twice during Blackstone's night patrol mission. "Break up this fistfight. Use your lasso." OK. Get one guy down. Oh, hey, that looks like a shotgun. DEAD.  Twice. So, tonight I broke up a fistfight and while I hogtied one dude, I noticed the other now had a shotgun, so after I lasso'd him as well, I shoved his head up the first guy's ass:

I've found all the treasures without a guide; actually one treasure was with an actual "guide" since Scenester pointed it out after I mentioned recognizing the rock formation. I also finished Survivalist, so now I can make Tonic whenever I find a plant. That's cool.

Man, seriously, GTA IV forgot how to add value to any of the side stuff. RDR has brought it all back from the GTA III era, and improved on it. The game is so much fun and there's so much to do that it makes me want to go back and try to play more of TBoGT or TLaD to see if I missed something, but I know it's just going to feel empty and lame.

Sitting at level 41 now. I think Im done with playing this game until some more DLC starts landing. I'm probably still down with posse-ing up and doing some challenges though.

Eel did you get the wild bunch title yet? Im keen to go for that if you still need it.

got hooked up with a xbl friend's posse on a vendetta ride against this single guy they claimed was griefing them earlier (this is the same guy who will use the recent players list to hunt people down)

to be honest, that kinda stuff is losing its charm, all the other three guys were doing was spawn killing him over and over, and when you keep doing that at a certain point you're really just a griefer yourself

i actually started to feel sorry for the guy after a while (i only shot at the guy twice, and that was only when he fired on me first, mostly i just hung around in the background)

after all, it is only a game, no reason to hold a grudge that long

i think i'm gonna move on to the gang matches and try to get better at those, then get back into the advanced co-op when i level up enough to get some decent  weaponry

I just stole a wagon for this guy in Mexico and right when I lost the law I slide down a hill into a valley and ended up abandoning my contact
