I beat Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.  I don't get all the hype.  The combat was absofuckinglutely awful.  The platforming was pretty good, but a janky ass camera killed alot of the fun.

aren't you always hyping up a tower defense game?

I rest my case

Action RTS.  :wag

I just didn't enjoy it that much.  The platforming and puzzles were very good, but every encounter had tons of enemies and felt like it the developers were trying to pad out the game.  The elevator ride near the end was especially annoying.  I think I counted 30 enemies that encounter and I had to restart it several times due to the princess dying.

iirc you get a move late game that lets you slow down time while teleporting to and insta-killing each enemy, similar to the special move in zoe2

that should have made a lot of the late-game battles fly by

RPGs are inherently grindfests, so for the achievements, the developers just took it to the next level. At least in BD you can just sit there with a field barrier and let enemies kill themselves.

I can hardly think of an RPG that doesn't have at least one or two awful achievements. Closest thing would be Enchanted Arms or Operation Darkness, I suppose.

Forgotten Sands is like Sands of Time without some of the 2003 PS2-era jankiness. The combat is really simple, but about a million times less annoying.

Last Remnant hardly has any shit achievements. You have to grind a little to achieve the result, but its not inherently a "grind" achievement.

I've played about 90 minutes of Warrior Within and holy shit this game is awful.  I don't even mind the grimdark aesthetic, but the camera (which leads to a lot of game overs since the rewind function is more scarce in this game) and backtracking (except in a different time period! :derp) are incredibly annoying.  I'm seriously considering dropping this and moving straight ahead to The Two Thrones.

I was really enjoying Two Thrones until I faced some shitty boss who can kill me in two hits and I have to watch an unskippable cutscene every time before I fight him.  :maf

Forgotten Sands is pretty fun so far.  The platforming isn't as good as good as Sands of Time, but it doesn't suffer from shitty design choices in combat and camera.

Done with Batman: AA and Sonic 3. Not sure what to play next. I'm not sure if I should concetrate on DW7 360 + Hydro Thunder or finishing Mirror's Edge + Hydro Thunder. I might as well get my short 360 games out of the way first and save Musuo games and Saints Row 2 for last. Which sucks, because Saints Row 2 is my favorite of the bunch.

Still need to finish Portal 2 co-op and I want the portal professor achievement too :(

wtf, I stuck in akai katana shin on my j-360 and it says "YOU MUST INSTALL AN UPDATE OR WE WILL NOT LET YOU BOOT THE GAME"

I've never run across this in the history of x360.  Games not running until you have the latest firmware.  I've kept my dying J360 offline for like 2 years now because I think installing the new dash will finally kill it permanently, but now I have no choice.  Fffffffuuuu

Well, it's a launch unit that's already red ringed once, so I think any extra strain on the cpu/gpu/ram will finish it.

If it plans to roll over,it will do that regardless of some dash update.

Update went smooth.  Did a run through Akai Katana.  I have no idea how the gameplay systems work (girl is invincible and builds swords which you throw when you switch back?) but it sure looks nice.

Now that I actually have my j360 online again, I think I'll spend my gaming time in the next week getting cheevos on Ketsui, DFK, DFK BL, and AK.

Just beat Forgotten Sands and OMG THE CREDITS ARE NEARLY 20 MINUTES LONG! I think every single person on the continent of Europe was involved in production. You know, movie credits are long too, but they don't credit the CEO of Universal Studios and the guy that did the Hungarian dub of Tom Cruise and the webmaster of UniversalStudios.com and the guy that designed the Taco Bell promotional cup BECAUSE NOBODY CARES! We don't want to spend a million years watching your distinguished mentally-challenged credit scroll just to see some 30 second scene at the end, just cut to the chase.

Playing through Valkyrie Profile 2 again and I'm at the Seraphic Gate (basically post-game dungeon). Just did this puzzle...

Needs to be done in 40seconds or the enemy you switch with falls off a ledge and keeps you from getting the better treasure. Basically fucking tough as shit.

And fuck tri-Ace for not giving this series the attention it deserves instead giving us cat-girl fanfiction. Best battle system in a JRPG.

Collected almost all of the cards in Culdcept now that I've got 150+ wins online. I just need the last few item cards and I should be set. Now that I can create some strong decks, I think I'll start going through the rest of the story mode after I finish up the games I'm currently playing.

Prince of Persia 2008 is pretty cool.

Is that the pretty looking one that everyone says is crazy repetitive, or the brown-covered one which everyone seems to have ignored, but the few people who have played it liked?

I really enjoyed the pretty cel-shaded PoP for what it was. Yeah it was repetitive and not too tough, but it was so pretty! And not really frustrating to play so I was able to enjoy breezing through it and taking in the sights. I wish more games had such nice art design.

I started Splinter Cell Conviction thanks to the Steam sale... definitely seems worth the price, nifty enough game so far. I kinda suck at keeping myself hidden for long though and the checkpoints have already annoyed me (though to be fair I did accidentally blow myself up at the end of a fight).

It has had a lot of poor reviews, but that is generally a good sign

turds like this: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/lego-batman-the-videogame/critic-reviews get high meta-scores because reviewers rate them highly because they think they're supposed to.

In MindJack, you can jump in anyone's single player game, and take control of any bad guy in that particular scene and kill the other dude. I was griefing this one dude for 15 minutes straight. You have to replay the scene if they die too, since they can't proceed. LOL

I think what's more surprising is that I found 3 different people playing this game.

Also, there are giant apes just sitting around you can mindjack and run around beating up dudes with.

The visuals and VA are like a lost-forgotten PS2/Dreamcast game. It's so awesome.

The controls are pretty jank, but see above. Game is pretty fun so far. You will need a booster since thre's some online achievements. But they're not too hard to boost if you find someone.

I haven't had the chance to really game in a while and this weekend I had no plans so I just sat around all day Saturday/Sunday and played like a half-dozen games, ate and slept.  It was glorious fun.

The Witcher (the first one):  I'm actually getting somewhere in this and it's pretty cool.  I wish there was fast travel, and greater storage mods like Western/Japanese games, but I can put up with it for the glorious Euro-rpg (this is my first Euro-rpg ever).  Running around a big seamless environment, stealing everyone's shit and slaying monsters is good times.

Dirt 3: Good, but 90 second races and long loading make me play it in short bursts.  It's definitely a solid fun Rally game with nice visuals, but I doubt it'll make it in my top5 racers this gen like Dirt 2 did.

Akai Katana Shin:  Cave at its awesome.  Tbh, I still prefer Cave's vertical shmups over horizontal because I find it harder to track bullets from various directions in horizontal shmups; but anyhow the graphics are great and the gameplay/scoring is one of my new favorites in a shmup.  The soundtrack could be better though; it's no DS2 ost.  But the game itself is >>>>>> DS2.

Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5: Started playing this again now that I can get achievements since I brought my J360 online.  I'd completely forgotten how to play it, which actually kind of made it more fun since I remember when I did know how to play it, I wasn't that fond of it.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit: Now that JPSN is back up I can finally play this again (no point in playing without autolog).  On one hand I like the autolog and couldn't imagine playing without it.  Otoh after playing Dirt 3 on the PC, this looks like a jagged low-res mess and I wish I was playing the clean PC version because the island is pretty sweet looking.  The racing is fun but again, coming from Dirt 3 the handling is lololol; 90 degree turn on a dime by just holding brake and sliding lolololol.  Wish the game was sandbox too; the island seems cool but you're not really exploring it.

Tales of Destiny R DC:  Went back and started playing this again.  Still pretty early on but man, this was such an amazing looking game.  Definitely one of the best looking PS2 games ever.  The 3d/2d towns are like Xenogears HD and the combat just looks sick.  Great stuff; kind of want to finish this before Xillia in September since this is still the only Tales I haven't finished.

Super Robot Wars Alpha 3:  Getting back to this.  It's good but it's fuck long and feels pretty sloooow and draggy coming from Z2-1.  Need to get a move on though since I still have an entire SRW left to play (OG Gaiden) before OG3 hits on PS3 this fall/winter.

999:  I'm just playing this on the stairmaster/toilet really.  So not advancing that quickly.  Just got to the 2nd escape room.  It's ok.  The concept is fun, but like every VN in Japan there's too much talking saying too little and the text speed is kind of slow.  Also the puzzles require you to write shit down and afaik there's no "notepad" button to just jot down notes which seems weird.  Makes it hard to do puzzle rooms while exercising, so I try to do them at my desk with a pad of paper and then do the VN parts at other times.

I still need to start on the Portal 2 co-op, but I'm too lazy to be online at an exact time to play it with someone I know.  Plus that requires me finding my headset which will take a while.  One day I will play it though.  Really liked Portal 2 SP, so I want to play the co-op!

I never felt the need to write anything down while playing 999. ??? When I first started the game, I was playing in 20-30 minute chunks as well, but at some point it hooked me, and before I realized it I had been playing for 4 hours straight. And then I marathon'd it until I got all but 1 ending. Game's awesome.

The Witcher isn't a very good place to start, as far as Euro-RPGs are concerned. It's all downhill from there and the bottom is so very, very far.

The only others I could really recommend are Drakensang [has combat like Dragon Age, but even more PC-esque, and much more laid back narrative], Divinity 2, Sacred 2 [Diablo-esque combat and looting with a massive world], and maybe Risen. None of them are as good as The Witcher games though.

Two Worlds [the original] if you want a good laugh that requires minimal effort.

For example: In the first room with the briefcases and the blue/red symbols.  You need to figure out what the 4 symbols are then what numbers they represent to get the lock code.  You could do it in your head I guess, but I just wrote down the symbols (especially since you can only see them 2 at a time from each card) and then looked them up and wrote down the code.

The only song I think is A-tier is stage 4(?) which is the trailer song with the vocal hymn on top of the music.  The rest is kind of standard shmup music; nothing really memorable imo.  I wonder if the Zetsu mode has an arrange ost; haven't really messed around with that mode.

Well there's also the Stalker games which I count as Euro-rpgs and want to play eventually.  I'll probably play Stalker/Risen/Drakensang/Divinity 2 at some point.  Though if The Witcher is the best of them, then yeaaaaah.  I mean it's cool, but it's definitely missing some standard gameplay features I expect out of most modern western/jrpgs.

One thing I'm kind of surprised by is how there are really no Witcher mods besides file edits for minor stuff.  Since the game was so popular and comes with a full "adventure editor" or something, I figured there'd be a huge community scene with lots of content.  So I was really surprised that there wasn't even a "increase your storage 2x" mod.

The Witcher is probably second best in Euro RPGs, behind it's sequel. The sequel smooths a lot of the rough edges that were present in the original.

You should be able to enjoy the other games I mentioned, as long as you keep in mind that they're Euro games and hence are built on principles of game design that fly in the face of all logic and reasoning. Well, okay, maybe not that bad, but they do have their quirks.

Just beat Lezard in the Seraphic Gate area in VP2. Got the post game weapon "Gungnir" :hyper (known for being Odin's spear and one of the relics that stabilizes Asgard and Midgard). Fuck, more games need to use Norse Mythology... kind of makes me want to play Too Human... kinda...

Finished Chapter 1 in The Witcher.  I ran into a glitch in chapter 1 that almost made me have to redo half the game to that point because the game didn't put a KEY ITEM into my inventory that it was supposed to.  If there wasn't luckily a backup solution to getting the item elsewhere, I probably would've just bailed on the game.  I've always been lucky that even in glitchy games like Obsidian stuff, I've never hit a glitch that actually prevents you from moving ahead in the main plot and screws your whole game.  Wasn't so lucky here!  :(  Already encountered 2 major glitches in ch.1, hopefully the euro-jank doesn't screw me over later on somewhere.

I think the combat is actually kind of fun, though I wish there was a way to heal quicker.  On the boss of ch.1 I was getting owned and my HP kept dropping and dropping and I had to find a spot where I could keep knocking back enemies to give time to regen some HP before doing head to head attacking.

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PSP) - Still into this game and about 10 hours in.  One mistake I made was that I ignored the side bracer quests and some of them expire after a certain time limit (wtf?)  There is no indication as to how soon you have to accept and complete these quests so you're SOL if you feel like putting some of them off.  So if you want to get the full experience of the game, once you see these quests, accept and complete them as soon as possible.  Although after reading some FAQs, it doesn't even seem like you can beat this game 100% in the first playthrough.  It's still a great game and has yet to get stale to me.

Ridge Racer (PSP) - Still as good as when I played it six years ago.  Only got it for a few dollars so even if it didn't hold up like what I thought, no biggie.  RR PSP was probably one of my favorite racing games out there ever until Ridge Racer 6 for the 360 and DiRT 2 (a shame that DiRT 3 seems like a step back).  Nobody will ever beat Rallisport Challenge 2 for the Xbox.

Megaman Powered Up (PSP) - Out of the dozen or so cheap PSP titles I bought, I dislike this game the most and felt like it was a waste of my money.  The controls are just bad for the game, compared to the original or when playing it on an emulator.  It just feels unresponsive compared to playing it on an NES pad or that throwaway $10 Logitech Dual Shock styled controller I bought for my laptop.  I do like that it uses the original music.  It just isn't that good and I'm not particularly nostalgic for Megaman.  Probably the first super cheap PSP title I bought that failed in its premise (quick, fun, and more importantly cheap entertainment).
