My adventures in soggy, moist warpugs continue with ARX FATALIS. So far I've killed ten to fifteen goblins and have been killed by three to five Fatal Memory Errors. Switching to Windows 98 compatibility mode solves the issue but comes with the limp-as-fuck side effect of only being able to play in Windows 98 resolutions.

At this rate I'm thinking I have about one or two more years of RPG enthusiasm in me before I snap.

Only two hours in- decent port; best RPG for 3DS so yay. Also one of the best Tales games imo.

Level 40 Jedi Shadow, level 22 Imperial Agent, and some other alts that arent going anywhere. Fun distraction. Only solo though- cant imagine how anyone raids of flashpoints or whatever they call it. For an MMO this game is just barely that.

Beat up the titan dude- not that far in. New main dude is cool cause hes not a moron. Serah's near psychotic dialogue options are cool.

"Graphics are so [insert previous gen console]" is one of my pet peeves. Go look at any original Xbox sandbox game and then tell me it's an honest assessment.

Crap, there were hordes of people claiming that inFamous 2 didn't look any better than the original entry. What a load of horse-puckey.

I didn't see that about infamous 2, but infamous 1 did look like a PS2 game.  The jump from 1 to 2 was pretty big.

The cutscene animation in infamous 1 was straight out of spider-man 2 the game.

Went to Winter Brawl in Philadelphia over the weekend to get fucked up and play some SSF4:AE and UMvC3 with a bunch of friends.  Mission accomplished.  Didn't participate in the tournament due to time constraints, but I got a ton of casuals in and learned a bunch of stuff, albeit without losing as much or as hard as I would've liked.  Probably should've just walked around until I found a big group of people who could really push my shit in, but I was entirely too stoned most of the time and a bit paranoid of weirdos trying to talk to me.

Anyway, probably should've mentioned that I was going here earlier in case some other Boreans were going, interested or just in the area.  Oh well, maybe next time.

I think you're wrong about the PS2-ness of inFamous 1's graphics, but you're not wrong about the cutscenes.

Man, that was some crazybad stuff. I honestly wish they'd stuck with the comic-book convention and just splashed panel artwork up on the page instead of having cutscenes. It's not a hard problem to solve, but it's amazing bad the cutscenes in 1 looked. inFamous 2 stepped up that game, but I think it cost them a bunch of moneys.

I thought infamous looked pretty good. Graphics weren't technically great sure, but competent and the animation and art was good. Couldn't care less about cutscenes.

Brother brought home Saints Row 3 so I played that for a few hours... it's probably the most fun I've had with one of these games since the original GTA3, and a million times better than 4, even if technically it's a disaster.

-screen tearing is ridiculous and graphics are Xbox 1 level
-great mission variety so far, even if a few of the missions overstay their welcome a tad
-music selection is interesting - no where near GTA in terms of name power (seems like they blew all their music budget on licensing Kanye), and a lot of the artists are nonames, and wtf at having an Adult Swim themed station? but it's got a track from :bow Grum :bow2
-game is a lot less punishing and frustrating than GTA
-customization is cool, made a voluptuous curvy girl with wavy red hair and freckles, then dressed her in raver clothes
-wrestling mission is amazing

Did they make the 'original' Halo in Halo Anniversary look worse than it did on the Xbox/PC? I played my Xbox copy not that long ago and I don't remember it looking so bad.  Maybe the direct comparison with the new visuals is making it seem worse.

Halo CE is still awesome.  And I like having the aiming reticule in the center of the screen! Never understood why in the sequels it was lowered.  Excited for Halo 4 after remembering how good this is.  It would be great if they can capture the alienness from CE that was mostly missing in the latter games.  Best would be Halo CE + the hub sections of ODST + Metroid Prime or something.  Just exploring whatever crazy world Chief lands.

so i went to the depth, falled into an hole and got insta-killed by some weird frog

and now i have to grind 3000 souls and go back to where the gargoyles where just so i can get my health back, you'd think people would scream about this kind of bullshit on top of their lungs but instead everyone is more like "PREPARE TO DIE!" 9/10 :duh

and before demi makes another shiren comparison,no there isn't anything there, that can happen to you which cripple you for the rest of the game until you cough a decent pile of cash

There's a merchant just outside the depths that sells the curse cleansing item. Or maybe he's only there in the patched version. BTW, if you're not playing with the patch, the curse will stack every time you're killed by it. So try to avoid that.

I've nearly finished all of the stages in Rayman Origins. I've had it for a few months, but I've been playing it a decent amount over the last few days to try and finish it. Pretty fun game, it grew on me the more I played it. I'd like to hold on to it for a little longer to get the 1000/1000, but I might send it back tomorrow so I can get Binary Domain. Dunno.

I'm also like 6 hours into FF13-2. So far I think FF13 is a much better game. The battles are so boring, the story is less interesting, and the music sucks. At least it's pretty.

No.  There's a lot of PSP Backlog that I have to get through.  I had basically put away the system for a few years until the Vita news flood reminded me that I liked the PSP.  So I started playing it again.  But I haven't bought anything in like 4 years for it?

yeah i'm not playing the patched version, but to be fair it's not a long trip to the gargoyles... grinding 3000 souls is what sounds super annoying to me,seriously why they made the item so pricey?

What? The frogs don't have an insta-death attack. They release a fog which will curse you but it's a gradual thing (a small bar will fill up) it will raise quickly if you're in the middle of the fog and slower the further out you are. Basically just roll away from the fog as soon as they release it and you'll be fine.

seriously the whole thing it's just cheap and mean toward the player for no other reason other than the game has to score HARDCOREZ POINT

sorry for applying videogame logic instead of actual logic :-\

besides it's not getting killed that's cheap,it's the fact that now i have to grind a bunch of souls just to get my HP back,it would be like if everytime you died in dragon quest, you had to spend the next 10 minutes killing slimes before being able to try again whatever you were doing

Well, if the firebombs deflect off your shield yes, but if they land next to you or behind you firebombs will get you and iirc there's no shield that completely nullifies magic damage.

Yeah it is a particularly nasty part of the game. But it is only one part of it, there aren't really any other areas that unforgiving/bad. After the depths and blight town the game really opens up. Keep at it! And try add the patches to the game. Makes it much better

3000 souls or braving New Londo? I wouldn't bother with New Londo for now, do you not have any soul items you can consume for quick souls? A few runs of the castle area should net you 3k souls and if you can those big giants in the forest are pretty good grindan material. There's also the shortcut up to the bridge with the red dragon to pop out and set off his fire breath killing the dudes on the bridge for ~300 souls a pop.

http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Snuggly

Quote
Glitch:
Before patch 1.05 you could trade items with Snuggly infinitely (or so as long as you had the item to trade).

Place the item you want to trade in the nest.
Quit and reload (or die, but that's slower).
BEFORE you pick up the item Snuggly gives you, drop another item she accepts as trade.
Now pick up the item she gave you.
Repeat (OR if you want to stop trading, pick up the item you just placed so you can continue at another time)

This exploit have been corrected in patch 1.05. If you try to trade ANY item already traded at any point in the past (per play through), it will simply disappear. She will then no longer accept the item for further trades. (it has been confirmed that patch 1.05 has removed the infinite trading with snuggly)

maybe i could use this to stockpile on curse removing stone

I say just use those souls you've stockpiled buy some curse removal stones and hit the sewers, also at the beginning of the sewers where you fought the giant rat you may/may not have picked up a Spider shield on the far ledge, this is pretty useful in Blight town as it's the only shield that blocks toxic darts. The frogs are only in one area of the depths and later when you go to the Great Hollow there's some too, but I doubt they'll be able to curse you again now you know wassup.

1000'd Rayman Origins. First game I've completed 100% since Dark Souls I think. It's a lot of fun when you're going for the 350 lum medals on every stage and doing the time trials, but if you ignore that stuff the game is pretty boring. I enjoyed it though.

Now I just hope gamefly gets in back in time so I can get in on the first wave of Binary Domain rentals.

Time to flip flop a bit on Tri-ace's Beyond the Labyrinth (J-3DS).

I still think the gameplay systems are good and the setting is interesting and music nice.  However there's too much randomness involved for a brutal dungeon crawler with saves an hour apart.  I lost an hour last night on the final room of the dungeon area I was in because of stupid BS that I had no control over.  See the enemies attack either your characters or the girl, it's completely random and you have no ability to affect their choices.  The girl also has no ability to heal like your characters or increase her HP like your characters.  If she dies the game is over.  Later on in the game (aka, the room after I died in) the wiki says you get a shield that lets you take damage in her place.  This is great, except since they hold off on giving it to you for a while, the areas before it depend on pure luck.  I get to the boss of the floor (2 giant boss enemies) and they decided to attack ONLY the girl and take from 100% HP to dead in 4 hits while I can't do a single goddamn thing except lose an hour of progress.  That's...bad.

And the other main annoyance is that the floors SHOULD NOT TAKE AN HOUR to go through them.  They're pretty tiny!  But the movement speed is incredibly slow.  And the battle speed is extremely slow.  Every battle takes like 2-4 mins and there is battle after battle.  For the most part you can't avoid any battles in the game and you can't run from them.  If they sped up the game 300% it'd be the same game but way better.  It'd basically be EO.  Game moves about 1/3rd the speed as EO.  Also since there are no classes, skills, or item drops, equipment or anything, the game feels very very simplified in comparison to EO.

I originally said this would have been the perfect $15 PSN/X360/Steam game and I'm sticking with that.  It has a very original and well thought out battle system.  However the depth and content is about the same as a $15 downloadable title.  It's also way too slow, especially for the length of the game.  It's a 20 hour game dragged out to 80 hours due to slow game speed.  Which is even worse because of how spread out the saves are in comparison with the difficulty of the game.  And the randomness is a bit too heavy.  Think I'm done with  this for now.  Will go back and play EO if I want more Japanese 1st person dungeon crawling.

I got Under Defeat HD the other day, and I've been playing it a lot. Honestly, I was half expecting to just play it for a couple hours and then go back to one of Cave's games, but I think I'm going to sink some time into this after all since itt's pretty awesome. New Order mode (16:9 with dual analog controls) is a nice addition as well.

The game's fairly tough as well - you only get 3 lives to last for the entire game. Shit's harsh. :(

Beyond the Labyrinth

Well, being the stubborn person I am who hates to lose in games and takes losses up as a challenge, I spent 3-4 hours grinding until my party had enough HP and could do enough damage to make it through that floor.  Now that I have a solid base in terms of stats, it should make things a bit easier and less random death.  The next area looks pretty nice, lava fortress, which is a nice change from jungle ruins that the game was up until now.

Letting my PS3 run to try and win the Slot Machine fragment in FFXIII-2. Then all that remains is 5-starring the end guy, and doing the 99999 damage and I'll have my 2nd ever Plat. :hyper

Fortune Street had such positive reviews and so I wondered what the hell it is. It can be horribly random and Monopoly like, but there's some fun aspects to it where I spent more time with it than I thought I would, especially online. The stock buying brings me back to manipulating crap in Railroad Tycoon 2 and other similar games from that era. Was playing with some people in Asia and slowly buying small parts of stock in their districts while stacking up mine. So people land on their spots, I get money, they land on my spots I get more money. Also would loop around and avoid their side of the map to pay like 15 gold on less developed side while everyone else plowed through it paying 250 gold. Shot me from fourth with 2500 gold to first with 8000 gold in a few turns and then I just looped around to the Bank to win. Not amazing, but I can see why some people like it, could be good at a party or gathering since I know plenty of people who love Monopoly and other games of that type. Might play it in the future while waiting on stuff like I sometimes do Mario Kart online.

Medal of Honor (2010) just a little into this, but I heard it was only 5-6 hours long so figured I could play through it in a few one hour sittings and was in the mood for some shootin of that type ala BC2 single player. Like the guns a lot more than BC2 or MW3. Would be farther along but I kept going on wiki to look up the locations and battles. (And the Tier 1 groups and their fun over the decades.) Imagine my disappointment with BC2 when I learned there wasn't a massive ship graveyard in the Atacama Desert. Game also needs a facial hair customization feature, it's hard to play through not knowing if I have a beard or not.

Star Trek Online didn't grasp me, but I'll probably give it some more tries just because of the license. Might be my system but the UI seemed all fucked up. Maybe I'm just used to things like Guild Wars with sensible UIs.

Other than that, Batman: Arkham City still has a few things to collect for the Riddler missions but that feels like work. And I keep forgetting to play Rochard which I really enjoyed the demo of. Probably should have finished Batman and done Rochard instead of dicking around with MoH and Fortune Street.

Wait, I have Bulletstorm lingering too. Maybe I'll get to that after I play more TF2 and...just got Alice for $2 with that Amazon coupon. I intend to figure this out.

STO is severely broken in the away team stuff- and the ship to ship stuff is interesting for 50-60 hours at most. I played it and dumped it, much like SWTOR.

Blech that sucks then, the away team stuff so far is just sooo bad. Soooo bad.

TNG on the SNES was better.

Is the away team stuff still 'beam down with some people and click on things scattered randomly across the barren landscape? I know there were some more involved away team missions with talking to npcs n such but it didnt seem like many.

Yeah, pretty much. Maybe shoot some shit from here to there.

To be fair, it's not like the episodes provided all that much more. Don't know why they couldn't have made it what we THOUGHT Star Trek was like instead of what it was.

Played some original Dance Central to try and get my early-morning blood running to something other than morning wood. It was fun, but there are some moves which just don't seem to read for me, like "Give It." And there are some, like "Shrug" which should be impossible to miss, but the game tracks the player's return to an idle pose for practice... It's frustrating to go for 100% completion and not know what I'm doing wrong.
