What game in the genre has a bad camera or stiff controls to you, Positive? The stiff controls complaint makes no sense to me. Are we talking about NG-DMC-Bayo?

Lollipop Chainsaw? See, now, that's your problem. You're talking about Lollipop Chainsaw, a Grasshopper joint. I guess all first person shooters play like Killzone too!

Open ended levels were never a problem with the genre. In fact, DMC1 and NG1 use this as an advantage.

open-ended levels would be fine if there was a reason to explore, but theres not in those games. combine that with the bad platforming and busywork "puzzles" and you have a lot of shit that gets in the way of the  action.

What game in the genre has a bad camera or stiff controls to you, Positive? The stiff controls complaint makes no sense to me. Are we talking about NG-DMC-Bayo?

bad camera is... a lot of the games. the bad controls complaint comes from the platforming. everything feels great in combat, but once you have to jump up to ledges or onto a platform then it starts sucking.

again, it feels like anything outside of combat is clumsy and gets in way of me getting to the next encounter.

also these complaints are for dmc 1-4 and ng1 (never played 2). bayonetta is pretty much perfect.

Reasons to explore in DMC and NG: getting new stuff and secrets and items. Especially in DMC where orbs are currency. I don't understand how the large, interconnected levels in DMC1 or NG is such a problem.

And the games rarely ever have platforming or puzzle solving. NG in particular always made platforming easy because you can wall jump, wall run, and do all sorts of shit.

I've never had these problems in - the good games at least -  this genre and those sound like extremely big nit picks. Only DMC4, which included the devil hand thing ever had a tremendous emphasis on platforming puzzles and that was one of the big reasons it fell flat. DMC1 and 3 really don't have any of that shit, and the jumping is never really so important that you should ever feel like it's a major flaw, especially since your combat skills are USED for exploration out of combat. Double jumping and doing a fire shoryuken to jump on a high platform is fun as fuck. What is wrong with you? :what

The same goes for bad camera. I've never seen anyone complain about camera issues in DMC1, 3, or 4. NG1 Original (not black) however, has had camera complaints, which were later fixed in Black and 2.

Just finished "Brothers" - I honestly do not see the acclaim it got, its pretty standard adventure, but I think "the feels" caught up with our journalistic friends again. The ending is very "Marley & Me". Thats probably spoiling it already.

I'm about halfway through this myself. Yeah as far as a game goes it's standard 3d action adventure here with extra feels, some peeps like the feels I guess.

Whats setting it apart for me is the visuals, all the environments are so considered, and the framing and camerawork are gorgeous. You can really tell a filmmaker was involved in the production.

Did you get I Am Alive demi? I still beat off over how sweet that game is. Relatively easy 200/200 to boot

Playing FF3 on Android. Isn't this supposed to be rather hard? Didn't have any problems in the first 3 hours or so, does it ramp up considerably later on? This is the first 'proper' game I'm playing on a smartphone and I rather like it, will probably pick up some of the other Square Enix games while they're on sale.

Any pointers on the jobs? I've never played FF3 before, what are the advantages of leveling a job, do the stats grow based on the assigned job or do you get additional skills when reaching certain levels. Also kinda lost on some jobs like red mage or the monk. I always end up playing those games super conservative with two fighters, a healing and a damage dealing sorcerer. Even jobs like the thief, what good is stealing if your fighting skills are just worse than the fighters.

To be honest while I like a lot of these game(I am no expert, normal is fine enough for me) I can't say stylish action games have no problems.

Bayonetta was awesome, but I'm sure the camera got in the way and I never liked the "variety" non combat sections.

I don't care which version of Ninja Gaiden 1 or 2 you play, I still had some camera issues. 2 on 360 especially. Still good games though.

Dosen't DMC 1 have a fixed camera? Been a long time since I played that, but I'm sure I caught some issues there. To be honest though, don't remember having any problems with 3 or 4 in this department. Especially the platforming with double jump. I will agree that outside of combat Nero moved funky and going back to DMC 3 Dante can feel a bit stiff. Yet these don't hurt the combat really.

I actually really like DMC4. I thought Nero with his devil arm really spiced things up and was mostly awesome. Of course playing as Dante was fun, it's just where you were playing that sucked. DMC4 purely mechanics wise seemed pretty awesome to me. The level design was ok it just dosen't hold up to having to back track through it. I really just wanted a DMC5 with the same gameplay, but better variety in the levels and boss battles. Hell, DMC4 still looks great.

And while yes I guess you should explore the environments for extra exp or whatever, I can't say any of these games give you much reason outside of that.

Finally got around to playing Portal 2 coop with a friend of mine. For some reason we ended up starting the EXTRA, HARDER puzzles instead of the main set of puzzles.

Shit is pretty awesome. It legitimately requires you to be working together to solve the puzzle. Many times we were stuck until we realized that we were individually trying to solve the puzzle and not thinking about a solution that requires two people.

Got to the 8th chamber before calling it.

I didn't like Bayonetta as much as everyone else. I think it was because I played it on ps3, I don't know, but I never ended up liking it as much as DMC/NG. The combos were too freeform and there were too many weapons for me to run with a style for me I guess, I don't know. But I enjoy DMC and NG's structure, start out with one weapon, master its moveset, then unlock a new weapon after beating a boss or buying one in a shop or something, Then master that move set. Something about Bayonetta. It's a well crafted game but it never clicked with me. I'd like more of it though.

it has a fuckload of options to it so that you can have loads of choices if you want it. you can stick with the first weapons you get our you can switch it up to all sorts of other kinds. other games still have a relatively small moveset - dmc3 only had like 5 basic combos per weapon iirc - but bayonetta had a SHITLOAD. combine that with huge bosses, no recycled levels, and lots of enemies and you've got gaming gold right there, my friend.

Finished the first "half" of Muramasa (the girl's story) and I don't think I have it in me to do the second part so quickly so I'm gonna give it a rest for a bit.

So far its been alright but if you can't stomach seeing certain environments time and time again then this game wont be for you, also I liked the combat with the sword switching/sword techniques and stuff plus the controls seemed responsive enough (though apparently the other versions had jump as the "up" direction on the joystick/d-pad? :kobeyuck)

Asylum has the Scarecrow stuff, least wasted space and tighter progression. (Except for the never ending elevator shafts.) City has the best theme music, best combat and the best single boss fight in the series. (And the horrible U shaped map, arguably too much ugly Riddler stuff all over and too much go all the way across the map and back.) Origins has the best boss fights in general and best story easily. (With oddly off combat, an empty open world with plenty of go across the map and back, and a silly twist.) But trying to pick which is the absolute best is like trying to decide which Bore admin you want to give you a sweet sweet handy under the desk.

That's largely what I think having finished it. I loved the Scarecrow levels, and there's too much backtracking just for the sake of it in City.

yup yup, apparently it's even able to emulate boktai solar sensor through the camera :lol

anyway,i'm a pretty big fan of let's play as they are often a way to get a feel for a game without playing the annoying part or if you stopped halfway through get the part you missed,or for story intensive game so someone recently made a let's play of to the moon and not only i can't get past how awfull it looks thanks to the fact that they couldn't be assed to use an actual adventure game engine and decided to use rpg maker instead but the whole thing seems to boil down to "here's a few "feels" moment, best game story ever?" and it kinda annoys me off... it's like indie + focus on narrative can do no wrong

and yes i'm being an asshole who's saying this even though he didn't bother actualy playing the game, :miyamoto

eh

unless it has some more story stuff then not its worth paying 20 bucks for another version (and even then that's kinda pushing it).

If you've got the version for free, sure.

I'm happy that I'll be able to play it on something, because I'm not going to buy a Vita.

Why didn't you guys tell me Zelda: Spirit Tracks has some of the best 2D dungeons around? I played this game for over 20 hours in the last 2 days and holy shit Miyamoto on a stick are the dungeons ingenious. The Spirit Tower has 20 floors for Christ's sake... it is insane. I just started the Sand Temple (last dungeon) and it is beyond amazing. Some of the puzzles in this game are delicious i.e. travelling in two carts with the Boss Key, lifting umm Crystal Arrow Shooters with the Phantom and shooting at them from a distance, being on the same level as the Crystal thingy. Over a lava area. With a timer. :lawd

And the overworld... doesn't suck! It's like a puzzle! Although the train is *too slow*. I waited and waited for a speed upgrade or at least instant 180 turn around upgrade alas none is to be found, only cosmetics (+ health).

Great Zelda game, don't understand the haters at all. Dat Byrne fight was extremely well done.

Game is horse shit.

Brothers is really great.  It introduces neat new mechanics and ideas only to use them for about five minutes so it's constantly feeling fresh, which is strangely not as nice as it sounds.  Some (most) sections of the game are enjoyable and they're over too soon.  It's like the antithesis of ubisoft games.

Speaking of slow, boring shit, I've been playing Okami HD and it has its moments of brilliance, especially during boss fights.  The dungeons are sparse and too easy, and the slow...scrolling...text... gets on my nerves, but I'm still having fun.

when I replayed Okami there were two things I did that vastly improved the game: I didn't buy upgrades, because it makes the game too easy and you can get by fine with your starting stats, and I never used the"observe" button because all it does is solve puzzles for you and offer up shitloads of redundant text.

game went way smoother with those.

Finished Wild Arms 4. Nice to play a sub-30 hour JRPG for once. It's been fairly easy throughout. It even checkpoints between the three phases of the final boss. Half the boss fights were puzzles, which were pretty neat, even if they weren't that difficult. The game is shallow all around, but - pleasant? I don't know how best to describe it. Very in-offensive.
The plot though... It's been a while since I have seen such nonsense. It's so loosely thrown together, with cheap drama and bravado and more cheap drama and teenage philosophy and - ugh. It would win a couple rounds of JRPG bullshit bingo.
