Because I'm not the format goon The Bore needs, I'm the format goon it deserves.

Currently making my way through LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on my xbone.  First lego game I've played and It's actually pretty damn fun :larry.

This game has really high production values. wasn't expecting that.

The Lego games haven’t changed their formula much over the years, but they have become prettier and bigger, for sure. The last few of them have had fairly large open-world components to them. They’re mostly collect-a-thons, but there are races and puzzles to solve. They’re fun enough.

Fired up Batman: Arkham Origins; I can see, if players liked Asylum better than City, why they would still not like this. It's based on the more open Arkham City gameplay model, and starts players off with, well, apparently everything. It is "more of the same," which is fine with me...!

On the other hand, compared to Arkham City:
- the writing feels subjectively better
- ancillary gameplay objectives are better integrated with the writing
- skill tree is better depicted in UI, more easily understood
- game is super gorgeous, particularly in its crossfades and in-game computer interface design

Kick. Ass.

Everytime it comes up I say this. Arkham Origins, bugs aside, is the best Arkham released so far. Better combat, better writing, better art and they give you all the really useful shit from the start.

Only bug that gave me problem was one that prevented me from getting one of those joker tower things you have to hack or w/e. They patched it though iirc.

That Deathstroke fight difficulty spike is some serious bullshit. I am of a mind that it may be bugs which make the fight difficult, as the enemy logic seems inconsistent.

I beat Borderlands 2 for PS4 last night.  I have a mission left that says the recommended level is 50 but fuck that shit.  The game is much better than the Pre-Sequel and not by a little either.  The Handsome Collection overall is pretty solid although I still wished that they threw in the original Borderlands.  Having now triple dipped both the original and the second game, I'm curious to see where they take Borderlands 3.  As much as I liked these games, Borderlands 3 needs to go in a different direction.  It's probably still another year or two out so we'll see how it goes.

Next up are the FFX/FFX-2 remakes for PS4.

Ori and the Blind Forest was only 5.5 hours long.

I enjoyed it, but it was a bit too easy since you can create your own checkpoints (and I abused the fuck of it that).

Made it up to ch 7 in Type 0, stuff is getting a bit harder since I've relied on a few characters for most of the game and most of my party is underleveled.

Also been playing some Lolo 2, it's a bit more challenging than the first game but the level design seems a tiny bit more haphazard... while in the first game, nearly every item/enemy/object was placed for a reason, in this game there are a lot of 'red herrings', which just distract you from how you beat the level. Anyways, I'm up to floor 9 of 10 and should hopefully beat this soon. A few of the stages stumped me for longer than any in the first game did. Also, after you beat the game, there's also 4 extra levels which are supposed to be some of the hardest Lolo levels ever.

And I finished up nearly all the DLC content in Gravity Rush.

finished kingdom hearts final mix. was a lot more enjoyable than I remembered. gameplay was very solid and they did a pretty good job making it scalable; on easy it's a button masher but on hard you have to get your timing down to survive. they did add in a move that makes Sora invincible while healing that makes boss fights trivial and I kinda wish I didn't use it. Sephiroth was a joke compared to the original release.

graphics still are clear and nice, altho it looks nowhere near as nice as ffx remake with its new lighting.

I loved all the extra secrets and bonuses. that's really what took the game above an average arpg and into something way more fun. there's a lot of care and great ideas that were put into the game.

started up chain of memories earlier. I played some of the gba version back in the day and liked it well enough but I really really hate making decks for card games. so far it's still simple and fun like I remembered, but it does get really repetitive.

Chain of Memories is a pain to slog through. And you gotta do it twice (Sora, Riku). AND the difficulties dont stack, so you have to play it 6 times total.

I might finally pop in 2.5 HD this week.

yeah wtf at non stacking trophies this came out in 2013 dammit. no way I'm gonna do this 6 times. I'll finish Riku and Sora's stories tho, bc I gave up last time on the last boss fights in the Sora chapter.

I got 2.5 remix waiting right when I'm done. I remember thinking kh2 was ass and I didn't even bother with the sidequests.I hope the final mix plays better. I tried some of birth by sleep on psp and the gameplay was great. that should definitely be fun to play thru.

Tried Fable Legends as I got a beta code for it. Let's just say that game has a long way to go. The concept is fine but the execution seems way off. And not just because its early (it is but its supposed to come out this fall, which seems worrying)

It's actually a closed beta you aren't supposed to talk about so I'll wait to comment on its issues when it hits a more open beta state.

Fable 3 was so bad though that it won't take much for them to put out a better product with Legends.

...And on the morning of the third day, Chronovore (living up to his name) realized what he was doing wrong and cleared the Deathstroke fight in Arkham Origins.

I can be such an idiot.

When Deathstroke attacked, I could counter, but it felt like I couldn't initiate an attack, because he auto-counterattacked. What I missed was that there were QTE counters for Batman in those, not just having Deathstroke auto-beat-the-shit-outta-me.

I've gone from hating this fight to thinking that it was a good idea but with slightly unclear implementation.

It really shouldn't have the fable name attached to it. I say that not as any kind of diss since I'm not really a big fable franchise fan, but as a reality. It has nothing in common with the franchise and the parts that it does have in are shoe-horned in which is the general art style and that thing where you hold down a button and fart or something.

Fable Legends has more in common with Dungeon Keeper or Tecmo's Decption or something. It's not as good as either of those but its more in spirit with them gameplay wise than fable.

I mean here is the tutorial for playing the villain. It's a completely different experience.

Played the Gears of War beta on the bone....It's gears alright. Either you are shotgunning the shit out of people or you're missing them point blank. Needs some tweaking.

Also playing Titanfall because it's free in the vault right now (With all DLC), and I actually like it a lot. It's a really good shooter. Unsure what all the hate was for.

Adding a short campaign wouldn't have made a discernible difference in terms of sales for that game. Especially when you take into account the budget you would take on for adding that campaign to what is already a relatively small team in terms of size. Any added sales would have just been chewed up by the budget and the manpower needed to do it. In fact to make a big bump in sales you would have had to extend out the dev team and really staff up to get a great quality campaign to make a difference.

Titanfall's a good game. Not every game is going to take down COD. In fact no new shooter is going to take down COD. It's a genre king. The next Titanfall might include a campaign. Good luck to them if they do it. But adding more cod campaigns to the world doesn't interest me in the slightest. Nor the fact that titanfall was missing a campaign has much to do with AIA original question.

I said some sort of PVE, not a full blown campaign. And given that the 5 guys in a coat closet at CCP Shanghai have long expressed their desire to include such a feature in their too niche for its own good shooter, your resource argument is also unconvincing.

Bridge Constructor  :lawd

I low res (because I forgot to change OBS settings) streamed my continued horrific failures and inability to understand physics or construction on one stage for a friend, then like ten minutes after I stopped streaming I figured it out and felt completely dumb for trying every previous method I had when there was an obvious one to use. Then I blew through the entire next island in like fifteen minutes ALL TRUCK PROOF in part because of what I figured out as a solution on this one and going more simple.

Finished Ori and the Blind Forest. Pretty solid game with good design and ideas. Too bad there wasn't a lot of end game content and secrets. As far as recent Metroidvania's go, I'd put it slightly behind Guacamelee. That game had tighter platforming and combat.

Now to decide between playing South Park, Transistor, or Grim Fandango. And recs?

Transistor has the interesting combat mechanics, but it's over in 5 hours just as the gameplay gets really interesting.  There is NG+, but I didn't bother.
South Park is a 9 hour long TV episode with Paper Mario lite combat.

I'd say South Park first tbh since you just beat an artsy fartsy indie game.

There is honestly not a lot of variation in them, though. The Lego Batman 2 (DC Superheroes) game before it may have been the first one with the open world to play in. Lego Batman (original) had a hub, Wayne Manor, with its own set of jobs. This is the model Traveller's Tales had used since Lego Star Wars for the Prequels.

The Lego Movie Game is probably the biggest and best of the Lego games to-date, but the focus is not on superheroes. It is possible that Will Arnett Batman is best Batman, though.

played a few hours of Shenmue 1 the other day for the first time since its release. the game feels way was waaaay smaller than I remembered. like you can walk across all but one of the maps and see everything in under three minutes. and while there's lots of people white their own daily routines, 90% of the time Ryo will just talk to the about his current quest. also it's real annoying that the game gives you no hints as to what will trigger a scene, so I feel like I'll miss out on some content. despite all that it's still kinda neat to see what they were going for, and I can't deny that the game has a little bit of strange charm, even if it sometimes feels like the so-bad-it's-good charm.

also I keep wanting to call it a product of it's it's time with the limited map and shitty voice acting, but then I remember that I was playing gta3 less than I year after I went thru Shenmue.

Posted something in wrong thread.

Booted up Horizon 2 again. Game's still pretty fun though Storm Island is brutal hard.
