Classic Dungeon's an action RPG? I'm interested now!
Besides a shit-ton of RE5 tonight, I also started Dynasty Warriors Strike Force. PS3 version only because Koei games are region-locked on 360, so I'm outta luck if I want English versions. :'( It's more fun than it was on PSP; besides the better frame rate and visuals, it just seems to work better on a console. You get more enemies to fight in each sub-area, plus there's 4P co-op online play. If you have any kind of interest in any of the Koei Musou games, plus like games like Phantasy Star Online, this is worth a look. It's kind of like a fusion of the two. You get "loot" in the form of materials which can be used to get new items/weapons/abilities, and there's subquests you can go on in addition to the main stages. The basic controls are the same as you typical Dynasty Warriors game, but the game play is different. Instead of being on open battlefields, you now travel in a more linear-style progression on smaller maps with sub-areas all interconnected to each other.
Terrain can be multi-leveled, since you can now jump multiple times dash in the ground and on the air, making for very fast-paced movement. There aren't as many enemies in each area compared to the normal Musou games, but to make up for it, they are more aggressive and not quite as brainless as the typical grunts that stand around and do nothing. You get a main and a sub-weapon that can be switched back and forth at any time, making for some longer combo strings, plus you can now fight in the air. Sub-weapons can be changed to a variety of different types once you get the items needed to create them, so can effectively change up the way any character plays. And of course there's the obvious Dragon Ball Z-inspired transformations. Instead of just unleashing a rage attack when you get a full musou bar, you can now power-up your character, changing his/her appearance and making him/her stronger/faster. You can stay transformed as long as you are hitting enemies, keeping the bar up. And from here, you can also unleash a musou attack like the regular games, leaving you de-powered afterwards. Select enemy bosses can also do this. Since movement can be a little chaotic, you can also lock onto selected enemies by facing them and pressing R3. You'll stay locked on and can then strafe/dash towards/away from them. Since I just started, I've only encountered human opponents, but there are also non-human enemies (some are gigantic) that you come across. It's a total fantasy re-imagining of Dynasty Warriors.
TL;DR version- Dynasty Warriors Strike Force is pretty fun; it plays smoother/better than the PSP version, has 4P online, and you can try a demo for yourself on both 360 and PS3.
Took them long enough to release this in English...Multi Raid 2 hits PSP next week, but with all the customization/item stuff, I prefer this game in English.
