Played about 2 hrs of Heavy Rain.  I'm not sure what I think of it yet.  There are some elements that are so well done that made me feel like I'm watching a film, such as the soundtrack which eerily reminds one of Gattaca and the top notch opening credits sequence.  Yet there are things that are just as poorly done which jars me from that illusion, like the stiff voice-acting and unnaturally written dialogue.

The technical side is also a mixed bag. Faces of main characters and their animation are amazing but things seem a bit off below the neck.  The NPCs fare even worse with noticeably diminished detail and almost seem like PS2 models.  Stuttering and out of sync audio often happen at inopportune times which again lift me from the movie experience.  The rain is amazing though and most of the environments are nicely designed and rendered.  I especially liked the mall.  It was like Dead Rising's mall but with more realistic lighting.

In terms of gameplay, there's not much to say yet because so far I'm basically just doing different motions to get the cut-scenes going.  I've always hated doing complex controller sequences for mundane actions and this game is no different.  Walking is irritating also, both in how it controls and the overall pace.  The guy that is being controlled seems to walk half as fast as a normal gait.

Although my initial impressions might seem a bit negative, I'm going to keep playing it.  Heavy Rain just does a great job of creating atmosphere and a tangible sense of doom like few others and I love atmospheric gaming.

Play in French.  Everyone I know played it in French since that's Quantum Dream's native language.  I played about 1-2 hours in English and the voicework felt unnatural so I switched it over to French and it was a definite improvement.

BUT playing in French comes with some downsides:
-There is no lip-synch, it must have been tied to the English track
-The subtitle timing is not very good

It's a shame there's no win/win situation, but like playing Japanese games in Japanese and watching French films in French, I prefer the original language track since it's the one the developers had the most control over to be how they wanted it to be.

Bepbo is a weaboo-froglover!  :omg

I'm right there with you, though. Languages outside the developer's own, and lipsynching outside their native tongue are respectively difficult and impossible. Movies are always better to watch in their native language, even though reading subtitles distracts from the visuals. I only speak Japanese and English, having forgotten all my HS Spanish, but I'm unable to follow complex language and there are many topics with vocabulary which evades me. So I'm on the subtitle shame train.

Mario and Luigi - Bowser's Inside Story... put about 10 hours into it on the plane and on vacay. Sitting on the beach getting sunburned while playing... sweet. I don't really care for the game though, the game is waaaaay too loaded with shitty minigames that break up the flow of gameplay, dodgy stylus controls in certain parts, repetitive regular combat against the same 1 or 2 enemies over and over, a lack of savepoints for a portable game, and the boss fights take forever. The music is also kind of bad, although the 2D animation is great. I don't get why everyone was raving over this game, the original Super Mario RPG, by Square, is still the best.

The product placement is ridiculous and awesome at the same time in Peace Walker

Miller:  Getting thirsty during a mission?
Snake:  Not a problem.  We've got Yerba Mate.
Miller:  Yerba Mate?  That's good and all, but don't you want a drink with some carbonation?
Snake:  Well sure, but during a mission you take what you can get.  It's not like I'm shopping in Times Square here.
Miller:  Don't get so down snake.  Our technology division has made a new discovery in carbonated drinks.
Miller:  It's name is...MOUNTAIN DEW!
Snake:  The dew of a mountain, MOUNTAIN DEW!
Miller:  A relaxing drink inspired by the image of the image of nature itself, the carbonation is just right, so relax and have a drink.

The zero calorie pepsi one is even more lol.

and lolololol Kojima is insane.  HUGE JOKE CODEC SPOILER BELOW:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Cecil Kojima Kaminandesu"
Snake: "Kojima", that's an odd name.  I can't say I have many French acquintances, is that a common French name?
Cecil:  It's not really that common
Cecil:  But Wagnar's 2nd wife was Kojima Francesca Geatana Wagner.
Snake: Oh
Miller: In Japan there are lot of Kojimas!
Snake: Miller??
Miller:  Oh, hey what a coincidence.  For you to have such an oriental name.  I feel the touch of fate!
Cecil:  Hahaha, really?
Miller:  Yes!  Indeed!  You have a great name, "Cecil Kojima Kaminandesu"
Miller: ?
Miller: Cecil Kojima Kaminandesu...Kojima...Kaminandesu....
Miller:  "KOJIMA KAMI NAN DESU!?!?
Cecil:  Miller?
Miller:  How do I put this.  The word "Kami" in Japanese represents "God" in English.
Miller:  "Nandesu" is kind of hard to explain but basically "Kami Nandesu" is close to "is god" in English
Snake: In other words....
Miller:  Yes, "Kojima Kami Nandesu" means "Kojima is god"
Miller:  [yelling] "Kojima is God!" "Kojima is God!" "Kojima is God!"  Everybody say it together!
Everyone: [yelling] Kojima is God!  Kojima is God!
Snake:  ...Miller?

CIV IV: BTS - Back to my usual 'play for 2-3 hours, save, come back the next day and start a new one'.

Madden 2010
- Just finished the 8th season in my franchise. Won a 4th Superbowl in a row. I was 69-3 on that run including back to back undefeated seasons. 14 minute quarters with accel. clock on, sliders set at a tick below "All Madden". Setting it to full distinguished mentally-challenged fellowMadden from here on out. Well, til 2011 comes out in August.

MW2 - Just playing for fun. Almost at lvl 60.

For some reason I enjoy sandbox racing games more than sandbox anything else games.  Probably because you travel across lands faster in a car than on foot!

Ok I take that back about fuel.  It's amazing for the first 20 mins of exploring and then you just keep driving and driving and driving and it's kind of boring outside the races/challenges.  Multiplayer is probably fun though, will try it when I can.

Finally broke through the 30,000 gamerscore barrier. I thought about trying to do something cool to commemorate it, but in the end I was goofing around in Splosion Man and popped it with the Master the Mastery of Mastering Your Controls and soon thereafter Lay Off the Caffeine popped as well.

I'm going to have to get pretty good at DJ Hero, because the damned game gave me a 1 pt. Achievement for completing the first non-tutorial setlist (:omg :maf), and the only way to get it back to a multiple-of-five is to get the 4 pt. Achievement for 4-starring a mix on Hard. I'm getting 3-stars on Medium right now. This is not a nice thing to do to someone with obsessive tendencies. :-\

Got in Metro 2033 although I'll probably have to ship it back as I want to play Red Dead Redemption when that comes out. The theme and tone of the world is great. But the actual gun play is pretty disappointing.

I finally turned my PS3 on after a long respite, and decided to download a few demos. inFAMOUS is really, really fun. I like the controls, and the sense of movement when using your glide ability, and skimming on the rails. I will have to pick this up at some point. Does it stay as fun as the demo?

Yeah, it's a pretty good game.  Don't expect a lot out of the story and like every other sandbox game the side missions are bit repetitive if you decide to do them all, but the platforming and combat is a lot of fun.  I'm definitely hoping the sequel gets shown at E3.

Don't listen to Bebpo. The story is decent enough (the twist at the end is pretty good), its the characters and dialogue that are atrocious.

The game is good, but the platforming can be aggravating. It's worth a play or two

Dudes. Thanks for the inFamous inFo.

Ugh... how do I ram the Star Destroyer down into the facility in The Force Unleashed? Undoable with KB&M controls. In fact the whole game pretty much *requires* playing with a gamepad since it is a God of War clone... yet I do not. I struggle the entire time (boss Jedi battles were SO HARD using mouse, fuck the Jedi Master in the Junkyard with 2 Junk Titans killed me like 100s of times) but I think I won't be able to finish this minigame without a controller.
I have no idea how they'd map the controls for the Star Destroyer, but the on-screen controller cue icons are misleading. Instead of repeatedly pulling the controls down once it's aligned, just pull down and continue pulling them down during the whole time the "pull-down, release, pull-down, release" icon is showing.

And, yeah, that junkyard jedi was probably the most difficult in the game, except for the emperor. He's difficult enough, but add to it the camera issues, getting hung up on the scenery's geometry, and the blast reach of the Titans, and it's a bitch to complete.

whooooooo!

I wants the Dragon baybee. Might be a good incentive to finally grind out the Planeswalker cheev (unlock 100%). I have no idea how that achievement is affected by DLC though. I seem to have gotten a %'age boost from unlocking DLC decks, so Im not sure if I have to just work on the original 8 decks? Or If I have to keep playing the DLC decks too?

Apparently the DLC is currently broken and un-synced, I will get it this weekend.

Finished most of the games I've been playing and I'm not really sure what to play next. Might start Resonance of Fate in a little bit.

1000'd Eternal Sonata.  Still an awful game, and it remains the worst RPG this gen--besides Oblivion, of course. At least it still looks great.
1000'd Eat Lead. The writing/story is fairly amusing, but the gameplay just sucks. This game makes Dark Sector look like Gears of War.
Onechanbara: Played through it on normal. I like how you have to have decent timing in order to make the combos more effective, so you can't just button mash (well, you can, but you'd be doing it wrong). Fun enough game for what it is, I guess. I'll slowly be going through the higher difficulties to 1000 it eventually.
Ketsui: Still only played this for a few hours total, but I'm making some progress whenever I go back to it. I can make it stage 4 pretty consistently, which is around the point that Cave decided to stop fucking around and put in some painful bullet patterns. I'm also really liking the scoring system. Simple and well-designed; no need to go online and read through a guide in order to figure out what any of it means...
I 200'd Boom Boom Rocket and Yaris as well; not sure if I mentioned them here before. Both games are terrible.

And of course, I've mainly been playing Super Street Fighter 4. I've finished all the trials in challenge mode, played through arcade with everyone, and replayed it a few times in order to do all the rival battles. I'm slowly getting everyone up to C-rank in online play for the last achievement, but since it requires 20 wins with each of the 35 characters, it's going to take a while. I like this achievement though, because it encourages you to learn more characters. GOTY 2 years in a row. :bow Capcom

this new MTG expansion is some bullshit. They put you up against some tricky ass landfall deck first up. Probably need to go back to some easier levels to pump up my decks, then use a cheap deck like the blue or black one or something.

And now you can just pay to have the decks fully unlocked! Its fricking tempting, as now I can just buy buy the Planewalker achievement. But I aint doin that

Mine's around 25k, which would be sad considering the amount of games I buy but I split my game purchases like 50/50 between X360/PS3 so instead of having 50k gamerscore or 50k equivalent trophy level I have around 25/25.

Though to be honest I hardly ever play my x360 anymore outside the occasional shmup so my gamerscore has become stagnant.  I feel like I'm always playing something on PS3, PC or PSP these days.  I'm turning back into an sfag :(  Probably won't play anything on X360 until Crackdown 2.  Although I am upping my gamerscore through games for windows live games which is nice.

3D Dot Game Heroes is pretty fucking awesome.. love the DQ3-5 references, the Zelda references, and the Zelda ripoff gameplay. Only thing is, in areas with reflections (i.e. the dungeons) it's kind of distracting and hard to tell where your character is. Not too far in, I'm gonna shuffle this one back and forth with Resonance of Fate (which I'm waiting to install just now).

Borys is kind of selling me on playing WaW since it's the only CoD I haven't played.  But I'm not sure if I can believe him!  I tried the first level and it was like "graphics are poop; scripted events are not IW scripted exciting; lol Japanese stereotypes lol"

I really like IW games.  CoD1 was amazing, same with CoD2, MW1/2 were solid.  I like their scripted rollercoaster ride experiences with pretty graphics.  I hated CoD3 with a vengeance, thought it was dull as heck, ugly and forgettable so it's hard for me to believe that WaW is a top-notch single player fps experience!

This.

WaW SP is decent enough. Has some decent set pieces. But its at Treyarch level SP. Does have co-op though if that sort of thing interests you.

The MP outside of the spawning, the no host migration, and the constantly dumping you out because you don't have the map packs, is surprisingly solid.

I tried out that DSi ware game where you take pictures of yourself and it turns you into a fighting game character.  It's kinda fun for free.

cleared peace walker's main story.

+best stealth game ever.  Every kind of stealth you've ever experienced in a MGS game at its best here.  I think MGS3 has better highs (The End battle, going down the river with hovercrafts flying above) and feels better because it's connected and not mission based.  But Peace Walker has like 15-20 hours of consistently "A"-level MGS stealth sneaking.  It's definitely the most stealth ever in an MGS game and it's really fun and exciting.
+awesome boss fights on the level of MGS bosses, very fun to replay
+fantastic presentation on par with MGS1-4
+controls were actually great.  Kind of surprised.
+graphics/art is fucking amazing.  Looks like MGS3 and could've easily been a PS2 MGS.

-meh story.  Like portable ops feels more like a straight to dvd side story.  I think I've given up on the idea of Kojima being a great storyteller.  He did real good with MGS3 and good with MGS1 but all his other stories are pretty weak.  The dialogues are good and the presentation makes the story exciting, but the actual plots are just not that good.  I'll see if the post-game story improves it at all.
-final boss was bullshit.  Was 30 mins into the battle and I ran out of ammo completely and had to restart.  Second try I beat it and my clear time for the fight was 33 mins :\  All other boss fights are 5-10 mins in the game single player.  Either I was doing it wrong or the final boss is basically "do 4P" or endurance battle.  Felt monster hunter grindy for that battle.

Overall I'd probably put it above MGS2/4/Portable Ops but below MGS1/3.  Though for pure gameplay it's definitely above MGS1 and tied with MGS3.

What's up with that "date" mission with that girl called Paz?  I've seen the clips on YouTube and I don't understand the context behind it at all.

It's an optional mission.  I just got it (it's post-game stuff), you are supposed to go on a date with paz.

I started playing Monster Hunter 3 and put a few hours into it. I've only cleared the first 3 or 4 quests but it's kinda boring so far. I suppose I'm still in the tutorial phase, so I hope this gets interesting pretty soon. And please no more fishing quests god damn.

Been driving around in FUEL with the guys from GAF. The races are kinda lame in comparison to just driving around and finding vista points and maverick vehicles and stuff.
