I get a headache everytime I play MW2, never happened before with any other game.  Gonna take some asprin and continue playing.
I'm liking a few of the missions, the
spoiler (click to show/hide)
white house mission was neat and I just got to the part where the emp bomb goes off and all the helicopters are falling out of the sky and that was rather cool.  I don't get why a satellite way up high would be affected by it though, is that realistic or did they completely make that up for theatrics?
[close]
I don't really understand the story at this point, but I figure I will read a plot faq when I'm done, lol ^^;

Realistic, but it depends on EMP blast strength and distance(1/r^2) and satellite protection

You seem to be much farther along than me.  I just started it a couple of days ago and so far...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I did Eden Prime, went to the Citadel, and then went to Feros (sp?), and disposed of the Thorian.  Not sure where I should go next...find the asari scientist chick, or go to Noveria or maybe do some of those assignments I've got piling up.
[close]

I would spend time talking to your shipmates, possibly opening up a sidequest or two, and then work on all of the sidequests you've already been presented with (should be quite a few, some get added automatically, check your journal). Also, if you just go around the galaxy, sometimes you'll get interrupted by a transmission, thus adding another sidequest.

After you've cleared out that particular queue (at least the non-collection quests), get back on the main quest starting with finding asari. The plusses are that these quests will gain you money, items (mostly just to sell), and experience.

And remember what I said about killing things in the Mako. Don't.

I'm impatient and I wanna see how the story plays out. I went to Ilos last night and saved on a new file. I'll do the remaining sidequests on my older file or on a 2nd playthrough if I feel like it.

Sonic Racing really is that damn good.  No homo.  :o  The drifting mechanics are awesome...a little easier to keep going than Outrun, but you also have to deal with obstacles and items coming your way.  I love that it gives you multiple levels of boost power depending on how long you drift for, and that you can boost through obstacles.  Plus you can get boost power from "tricks" during jumps.  Awesome game, totally trounces Mario Kart.

Yeah you just described the Mario kart wii mechanics verbatim.  So it probably sucks like mario kart anyway.
 :piss mascot racers

No, it's more akin to Outrun than Mario Kart, like I said.  The way you drift does not feel the same.

I liked Mario Kart Wii.

i tried the Sonic demo again after reading that post and still didn't see the appeal. I'm not too familiar with Outrun though so maybe I'm playing it wrong.

For me it's just a much better version of Mario Kart.  Better control (compared to the Wii version, anyway), better level design, no bullshit broken power-ups (they're not really an issue, but the all-star moves are disabled online anyway), and an improved drift system.  If you're playing the demo on 360, it's got frame rate problems all over and is not a good way to judge what the game is really like.  Drifting in this game is done by just hitting (and holding down) L.  The longer you hold it, the more of a boost you can build up.  You can also maintain more control (but sacrifice some or all boost) by tapping R inside a drift.  Hitting L in the air does tricks that also build up boost...so you get Outrun-style drift mechanics combined with Mario Kart-style game play, and it just works really, really well.  Better than it should.

Ok, I didn't realize that a requirement to BEAT THE GAME in RFG was to buy the Nanoforge Rifle.  I thought it was just a weapon and I chose to spend 1000 salvage on the super rocket launcher (with...4 shots and crates don't refill it  ::) ).  So I got to that part and had 0 salvage and need 545 to continue the story and I'd already done almost all the demolitions missions and guerrilla missions that give salvage.  So I spent the afternoon doing the transporter missions I hate and finishing up the rest of the demolitions missions, including this one that sucked   Now I have 1000 salvage and can continue the story, yay.  Wish I had more so I could get the expanded super rocket launcher ammo but I'm not doing the rest of the transporter missions and I'm not going to try to beat the pro times for ones I haven't, which are the only ways to get salvage >_<

I wish you could trade in weapons you don't want since most of them suck.  Man I wasted salvage on that stupid grinder.

Oh well, I've realized the fun destruction in the game is saved for after you beat it and go to wrecking mode where you can have ANYTHING and just get to destroy stuff with it and unlimited ammo.

valve updated the game today with some secret achievement

apparently you have to find a radio (26 total) in each test chamber and take to a spot in the level where the music fades out to morse code

people on the steam forums have found that morse/sound files have imbedded images such as this

might have something to do with portal 2 or DLC

Finished Red Faction.  There was a some padding towards the end with DRIVE ACROSS HALF THE GAME FOR NO REASON parts, but overall it was a good game.  Had a lot of annoyances like not letting you play with the fun toys much, bad (or lack of) checkpointing, repetition, and horrible combat where you basically need to find some little tiny spot (or better a car) where you're not being hit to recharge your shields since guys around shooting you from every direction at once and infinite respawn.  Still, destroying stuff was really cool, the mechs rocked, the visuals were fantastic, good music, and the story was light but fine.  Plus it was pretty short (only 20 main missions) so it didn't wear out its welcome too much.

Wrecking Crew is fun.  Kinda dicked that the multiplayer gets even MORE and BETTER toys to play with.  A real jetpack (thrust), rhino, singularity bombs, etc...it's too bad the PC community is DEAD for this game because I'd imagine running around in deathmatch with all these crazy weapons and vehicles while the environment is destructing around you would be very, very fun.

I checked out a little of the so&so of the badlands dlc and its impressive!  A full-blown area with importance targets, side-missions, story misisons, all new weapons/vehicles, cutscenes.  Cool stuff.  Will play through it tomorrow before I uninstall the game.

I definitely got my $10 worth from the steam sale and would probably pick up a sequel if they made one with improvements.

Chime. It's nice, but I don't know how to get out of FREE MODE without actually quitting. Philip Glass music in a game is super sweet.

I'm addicted to Dawn of Discovery on the Wii. Holy fuck it's the perfect chill out sim city style game I've always wanted. It doesn't match the glorious stats of the PC counterpart but that's ok, it doesn't need to. Works brilliantly with the Wii remote, superbly polished (for a Wii game lol), and the story mode serves as a great tutorial with nigh perfect difficulty perfect.

I know I'm gushing over it but I sincerely love it. Works as a great unwind game on the weekends and it's a lot of fun right before work.

Gah. I will pick up a copy just based on your jizz. Amazon's got it for 14.94USD and I was just about to place an order anyway. I've always wanted a citybuilding game where I'm not being zergrushed or having to remember how to chord the shoulder buttons with the face buttons to do a group-select.

I just realized there was no flying vehicle in RFG.  Why did the game not let you go warhawk on its ass?  There were enemy planes and it's not like the environment was too detailed and so the engine wouldn't handle the pulled back view.  I mean it's main mountains with a base here and there.

Another thing I realized was that for a game whose main selling point and running theme is DESTROY BIG THINGS AND WATCH THEM FALL APART WITH AWESOME DEBRIS AND PHYSICS(tm), you would have thought that the ending would be you destroying something REALLY BIG and watching it fall collapse appropriately and you feel the satisfaction of the bad guy's ship/base/whatever crashing into a million pieces and then the credits roll and it ends on a good note.  You kind of do that!...except it's an fmv....wtf.  They should have made the very end real time and you are aiming the scoped in nanorifle and you shoot the giant ship in real time and watch it fall apart a piece at a time under a time constraint so you have some sense of challenge.

Also a pet peeve I have with GTA games in general is why do most of the missions in these games consist of "hey, go pick up the guy/car at point A and then go do the mission at point B"?  This is like the dumbest game design ever.  Especially if the mission activation point is at some random spot you have to drive out for to begin with.  Why not have the guy/car be where the mission starts?  It's just padded filler and if the game doesn't checkpoint when you get to point A, and then you die at the actually mission at point B, you have to do the padded drive all over again.  It's seriously a horrible mechanic.  And why do they always have you drive to some random point to start the mission?  Why not make the mission start right before the area where the mission takes place?  Then you still have to drive there, but only once!

Stuff like that is why I really am not a fan of these driving gta sandbox games.  According to my stats I spent 50% of my game time (~15 hours total) in a car.  So less than 50% of the time wrecking stuff.  If I wanted to drive around I would play Test Drive Unlimited or Burnout Paradise.

Is that the 400pt music/tetris/charity thing?  I've been thinking of buying that, enjoyed the demo a couple of times now.

Last night I ended up doing the sidequests in Mass Effect instead of just beating the game. I did everything that I could at the Citadel except the fucking Keeper sidequest. The last one that I had to scan is next to one of those Avina VIs and she tells me not to disturb it everytime I try to scan it. Oh well.

I did all the sidequests for my crew members and a few others. I think I'll do them all. They're short enough.

Also, I've decided to only use Tali and Wrex. I love Tali's hacking skill and Wrex's comments during dialogues. I thought about keeping Liara, but then I realized that Wrex has all of her skills that I actually use.

That one next to Avina actually counts as a scan, you are missing another Keeper somewhere else in the Citadel, this threw me off too. There's a map of all the Keepers on http://masseffect.wikia.com, the one I missed was in the tower, waaaay at the back corner where the Council meeting spot is. Another one that's easy to miss is the one in the Wards Access area, since a lot of people tend to skip that whole area and just use the rapid transit to avoid dealing with the elevators :P

Tali and Wrex was my party throughout the game, too. Tali's hacking worked really well in decrypting all those lockers and probes and getting phat lewt, and Wrex was my powerhouse. Still got some blue alien lesbian sex from Liara tho  :-*

I finished MW2 tonight and honestly I'm kind of impressed.  I went in expecting to be grumpy mr. CoD#5325325 yawnnn and the first half of the campaign stages kind of backed that up.  Defending burger town?  Yawnnnn.  Snowmobile stage was a total letdown and they controlled like something out of No More Heroes.  The only good part in the first half was the running on the roofs section in brazil.

But then around halfway the game got good.  Every stage was a rollercoaster theme park ride of crazy shit going on, nice looking graphics, fun combat and a good in-game presentation thanks to heavy scripting.  Sure, it was so on-rails that it might as well have been Sin & Punishment War Edition and a lot of the cool stuff you just watch happen instead of actually doing yourself, but it was a great popcorn movie experience that reminded me "oh yeah, back when CoD1 came out I really thought IW were a bunch of talented guys who were really taking scripting to the next level (and thought it again with CoD2 and less so, but also with CoD4)".

So yeah, I was surprised but I really had a lot of fun for the entire second half of the game and was satisfied with the campaign by the end.  Some of the visuals were pretty nice too, like after the EMP goes off and it's raining and lightning flashes and fires are lighting the people and stage.  The Canyons in the 2nd to last stage looked nice too.

Tried some spec ops solo.  Not really for me.  Tried some Multi, fun in a turn-your-brain off way.  I love that there is no wait to respawn so I don't care if I get killed every 10 seconds since I just jump back in and am playing again 1 second later.  Might play more online here and there if I'm bored.

Me and Cajole ran through the first world of Splosion Man on multi not too long ago. Only missed one cake on 1-11.

I never said the level was good!  I just liked the 1 min section where you run across rooftops like Bourne  :lol

Like I said, I was not impressed by the first half of the game.  The Brazil level was terrible.  I was dying every 10 seconds and it was a really shitty way to start the game.

1000'ing Dead Rising at the moment. Only have the 5 and 7 day survivor achievements left, which I'm doing right now. Love the game, and I only had a problem a couple times with the AI while doing the Saint achievement. The worst was when I was escorting 6 survivors; I'm running late already but I actually managed to make it to the rooftop with a few seconds to spare. Of course since I'm escorting 6 survivors, they all get stuck on the platform that leads to the security room which eventually causes me to fail the case. Now that was frustrating.

So while I stand around for 14 hours doing these stupid survival achievements, I'll be playing something else in the background. Right now I'm thinking Mega Man 10, SMT: Nocturne, and various DS/PSP games.

Other than that, I played some Mr. Driller on XBLA. I actually managed to get the achievement for drilling 3000km. Right now my best is around 4200km, so I think with some more practice I can get the achievement for doing 5000km, which is really fucking hard.

Briefly played Espgaluda 2 as well. Credit fed through it once to unlock Omake mode and played some good old single credit arcade runs. I think my high score right now is 17m by stage 3, which is pretty much trash considering there's an achievement for getting 35 million on stage 1. I haven't really looked over the gameplay systems though, just playing some casually until I'm done with Dead Rising. Really like what I've seen so far, can't wait to really dig in. Oh, and the final boss' last pattern is :rofl fuck off Cave.

Oh, I played some  Battle Fantasia as well. That game is so strange. It's like ArcSys tried to make their version of Street Fighter, but I keep playing it like it's an ArcSys game. It's really fucking me up :lol

After beating Uncharted 2, decided to try multiplayer. Not fun. Game goes back on shelf, at least the single player was fantastic.

Now with the distraction of U2 out of the way, I'm concentrating on MGS4 and Heavy Rain. HR just isn't my thing, it seems, I can't seem to "play" it for more than a half hour or so at a time. Story's good though.

MGS4 is still fun, but holy shit did Act 3 suck. The stalking mission + motorcycle chase was terrible and the boss was laughably easy (he pretty much just stopped in midair and let me shoot
him the entire battle). Hope Act 4 is better.

After I finish MGS4, probably time for some Infamous - barely touched the game but I loved what I played. That + Bayonetta still + HR + FF13 and GoW soon mean I'm set for quite some time.

Does The World Ends With You get any better?  I started the second week, and I actually enjoy the story, but the battle system is far to convoluted for my tastes.  The game would be much better if action only took place on the touch screen.

just ignore the top screen, either leave on auto or mash the D-Pad while bothering only with the touch screen bit

Other than that, I played some Mr. Driller on XBLA. I actually managed to get the achievement for drilling 3000km. Right now my best is around 4200km, so I think with some more practice I can get the achievement for doing 5000km, which is really fucking hard.

What's your gamertag? I must retain my spot at the top of the leaderboards as Evilbore's #1 driller. :teehee

I think I'm ranked 983 or something on the leaderboards. No idea what my actual score is though.

Still playing Suikoden Tierkreis. The game rocks. I just upgraded my headquarters.

And why does this game have this stupid censorship? I wanted to name my HQ "cunt" , but the game didn't let me.  :-\

got 11/12 cheevs in Monkey Island, will do "Marooned Everyone" tonight.

Actually not a bad adventure game, it gets much better once you get to Monkey Island, the canabists are pretty sweet.

Gonna 200 Virtual On tonight also, I got schooled by some Japanese players who had like 6000 online wins last night  :lol good thing you only need to play ranked for the cheevs, not win.

Damn cheev mopping

$20 game. It's like... Shenmue + Silent Hill

Dont let Shenmue put you off. It's just kind of open-world and stores and the weather changes based on the current time. You arent limited to completing a mission in a certain period. There's a bunch of little missions you can do for people, which reward you with new weapons, collectables, etc.

Its also like a Japanese twist on Twin Peaks from what Ive heard/seen. Including the ridiculous comedy and dream sequences etc.

The el cheapo US version is like 33 NZ bucks on Play-Asia (a fricking steal considering even "budget" games often release for $60+ here) but it aint region free :(

Word on the street is that Rising Star are doing the PAL publishing, but we'll most likely get reamed on the pricing. Still looks like A+ must buy, cant wait to play.

Might have to fire up Blue Stinger in the meantime :)

One more sidequest to do on the moon in ME, then I'll finally go ahead beat the game. I'm not sure about doing a second playthrough anymore. I've never played any RPG more than once.

Sounds like the type of game that is fun in a weird way.  For $20, I might do a blind buy...maybe in April.

Wow, talk about a mixed reception! From the wiki:

IGN - 2.0/10
1UP - B
Destructoid - 10/10

I thought you could play NTSC games on your system; is this a region lock you're worried about? The US release looks like it's available on the cheap.

{READS} Oh. Sorry, fyl.
