Yes, actually. Dead Rising 2 is out later this year, so I'm fine with missing a crappy "goty"

I actually installed it to my Hard Drive after finishing IU. I'm only 480/1000 cause it was the very first game I bought for 360, and this was before Achievements caressed my balls and kissed the tip and made me it's slave.

Plus I am really into Arc Rise Fantasia right now.

I remember Infinite Undiscovery taking around 25 hours or so.  In retrospect, I actually kinda enjoyed that game even with all the problems.  I consider replaying it from time to time but then I remember the long stretches without saves and me inches away from my TV yelling "FUCK YOU EUGENE! HEAL ME!"

anyway, The Saboteur pisses me off but I keep playing.  It takes a lot of the worst shit about GTA4 and makes it worse.  In GTA4 to get away from the cops it had you outrunning a circle.  It was annoying there because it felt like once you got to the edge of the radar, another cop would into the street; The Saboteur has the circle, but it does two more things that are just aggravating.  1) the circle follows you.  2) enemies literally spawn into the circle with no indication.  You're outrunning this circle that is following you, it finally stops, and the game spawns three enemies that pop onto the radar and he circle catches up again.  Fuck that.  The second thing it takes from GTA4 is the baffling animation stumbling.  The character is tripping over himself just moving around, and if an explosion happens near you, you might as well give up because he is incapable of standing up in less than ten seconds; note that this is while he is getting fucked in the ass with more rockets and bullets.  Then you go to climb a ladder and wall, all while still taking damage, and the game continues to do these superfluous animations.

Only great part about the game so far is that you can throw people in crazy ways.  Lifting an old woman over your head while the character says "top of the morning" randomly is entertaining.

I played the Saboteur for a while over Christmas an even the awesome setting wasn't enough to keep me playing. It's the worst aspects of GTA and Assasins Creed put together in an even worse way.

It's a shame because I laughed at the stupid fight on the blimp. And how bad the voice acting was.

Anyway I just realised I posted my Kings Bounty stuff in the random thread :lol

Started again on Easy mode with the Gift Bag Mod and it's fuck awesome. My blue snakes are fucking shit up, and I've made it to almost he same point of time in 2hours as I had in 10.

Super sad to hear more crap about The Saboteur. I'm such a fan of open world games that I was ready to throw down in Nazi-occupied France for days on end. Then I heard about the black-and-white/color mechanic, which has interested me for years, and I was hovering over play-asia's "PLACE ORDER" button, only to be plagued by doubts. PANDEMIC. C'mon, Mercenaries 2 was the buggiest piece of crap I've played in a long time. Hearing more bad stuff about it supports my decision to not buy, but still makes me blue.

SSF4: Endlessly.  Never never never gets old.  Recently I've taken up messing around with Juri (again, used her ever-so-briefly when the game launched).  Community is where it's at and I play with various people on my friends lists almost nightly.  The SSF4 NeoGAF chat room on PS3 in particular has been a total blast lately.  Took first in a tournament session we did, then we all had an epic ALL-DAN team battle.

You could take away every other game I have and I'd be fine with just Street Fighter.  Can't remember the last time I was this into any video game.

BlazBlue Continuum Shift: U.S. version is out.  I can't settle on a main but I am leaning towards Taokaka this time around.  Iron Tager was my main in Calamity Trigger.  But the DLC characters are still yet-to-be-released and I may like one of them more.  Been getting my ass kicked quite a LOT online, which is to be expected.  I'm definitely a total n00b.  Plus a lot of the stuff that worked in the previous game doesn't work so well here, or doesn't work at all.  They changed a lot of stuff up.  I like this game but it's nowhere near as engaging as Street Fighter has been for me.  It's great as a second fighter and will likely stay that way until MvC3 and Arcana Heart 3 are out.  Plus I need something to replace NeoGeo Battle Coliseum on XBLA, which sadly appears to be dead online.

Side note: BBCS has a fantastic tutorial/challenge mode.  It teaches you the basics of the game and then focuses on character-specific combos/basic strategies.  It's the first GOOD training mode since VF4 Evolution.

Lost Planet 2: Not too much of the campaign, but still having some fun playing online matches.

Resident Evil 5: Played the mansion DLC scenario with a friend a couple of days ago.  It was his first time through.  Wish he'd get the second scenario; it's better and I'm always up for replaying it!

Going to be getting Sengoku Basara 3 in a few hours.  Super-pumped for it.  Have a feeling it will take down Hokuto Musou as my favorite musou-style game this gen.

It's probably better than Mercenaries, but it's also probably more frustrating. Sneaking around is fun but once you're detected it's like the worst game ever.

Splinter Cell Conviction is amazing. I got it from gamefly earlier today and I'm already more than halfway through the campaign on normal, but I love it. I'll finish it tomorrow. The only reason why I'm stopping now is because I can't handle the motion sickness anymore. :-\

Besides that, the only game I'm playing is Super Street Fighter 4. I can't get enough of it.

Still grinding away at Rudra's Treasure... and I do mean grinding. There's an interesting story thrown in there, unfortunately the excessive random encounters and the constant boss fights are starting to get to me. Go through a 20 min dungeon, watch 10 min of cutscenes, then fight a boss who has twice as much HP as any boss you've fought so far, no elemental weaknesses, and uses a lightning attack that destroys your party (if you didn't already know in advance to equip the much weaker armor that gives you lightning resistance).

Want to finish this up soon so I can get some Witcher action going on. But it's gonna take me at least another week or two.

1100'd Lost Odyssey
1000'd Resident Evil 5
1000'd BlazBlue Calamity Trigger
1000'd Sega All-Star Racing
200'd After Burner Climax
200'd Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders

Lost Odyssey is such a great game. It starts out pretty slow, but once it gets going it's pretty great all the way through. Disc 3 in particular is awesome from start to finish. And even though the DLC dungeon is ridiculously lazy (copypasta the same room 25 times over, great work feel+), I still had fun playing it. The end boss is bullshit though with his armageddon spell or whatever it's called. It's too bad we'll probably never see a sequel since MS doesn't give a shit about Japan any more.

RE5 is pretty good. I played through Professional on co-op, and since my partner had infinite rockets, it made all the bad parts of the game go by quicker. That worked out pretty well. I'll probably buy the DLC pretty soon.

All I really had left in BlazBlue was the story mode and a bunch of random achievements. For the most part, the story was actually fairly interesting, though it can drag on from time to time. I'd say Tager's path was my favorite. Probably going to start up Continuum Shift in a little bit. I want to learn this game properly, but I'm kinda holding off on getting too serious with fighting games at the moment because I really want to burn through my backlog.

Sega All-Star racing is an awesome game. I'd even say it's better than every Mario Kart except for MKDS and the original Super Mario Kart. It's a little unbalanced (Shadow is god tier, Jacky and Akira are shit tier :'() and I really wish it had a better variety of tracks, but overall it's pretty damn fun. Pretty easy to 1000 too, except the gold license achievement takes some grinding. At least you can basically put the game on auto-pilot and go do something else while it racks up miles.

After Burner is great, but I haven't spent a ton of time with it. I'll probably never seriously attempt to 1CC it without a bunch of EX options, but it's still a fun game. Super easy to 200 too.

Crystal Defenders I liked at first, but once the energy crystals became super important to your setup I started losing interest. I'd rather just have proper units and keep leveling them up as I get more gold instead of having to place a ton of crystals everywhere. I just wanted to be done with the game, so I just youtube'd the last 4 maps. :-[

And while Sega All-Star Racing was grinding itself for my gold license, I started up God of War 3 and played that for a couple hours. The presentation in that game is fucking incredible. It's almost in a league of its own, really.

Dirt 2 - Once I finally got the hang of Codemasters handling, I agree with the fans that this game is great and the best rally racer since Rallisport 2.  Sega Rally Revo was awesome....but it got REALLY FREAKING HARD and was kind of annoying.  Dirt 2's 4 difficulty levels give you a nice balance.  The locales are gorgeous and the hillclimbs are so much fun.  My only complaint is there aren't a whole lot of tracks.  9 locations/tracks with some alternative routes and reverses.  I miss the days when Racing games took 3 years+ to make and had like 30+ original tracks.  I guess when you do 18 month dev cycles for racers about 9-15 tracks is all you're gonna get.  Still a great game.  Now that I've gotten a feel for their handling, after I finish Dirt 2 I'm gonna do Dirt 1 next and then Grid.

Super Robot Wars K - generic.   Been playing this for 60-70 hours by this point, ready to finish it.  Worst SRW I've played.  Crappy animations, boring story.  Gun x Sword is the best part by far.

Valkyria Chronicles - Loaded up my game that was around halfway and resumed playing.  I still think the game is too slow for me and I prefer traditional srpgs or strategy games over this hybrid, plus I don't like that you play the game by avoiding the enemies and running a scout to their base, kill 2 guys, take it = win.  Wish the objectives were more like "kill everyone on the map"; would have been more satisfying.  Feels like I'm cheating when I avoid everyone and run for the goal.  But it's a nice game.  Was surprised that they killed

I bought DQIX for a trip out of town, but forgot it like a jackass and had to play what was brought in the crusty, dusty DS case.  :'(

DQIV was in there, and I had only put maybe thirty minutes on it. I got to playing for a few hours, and now I'm a bit addicted.

I beat SC: Conviction on normal earlier. It is pretty short, but at least it never gets stale or feels like a chore *cough*Dead Space*cough*.

I also started Nier about an hour ago and it's a lot more fun than it looks. The combat system isn't anything special for an arpg, but it's fast and well done. The music and enemy designs are also cool and best of all, it actually feels like a jrpg. I'm happy that I ignored reviewers and forums on these games. I think I'm gonna extend my gamefly account so I can beat this and do the other modes in SC: Conviction.

I never saw that one, Bebpo. :lol
The gameplay for the story mode really is extremely boring though.

Team Fortress 2, Starcraft 2, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, Mirror's Edge.

Btw I don't know what the fuck some of y'all are smoking. I don't mean to be a hater but Mirror's Edge isn't half as good as people around here make it. It's good, one of the better games of this gen, but far from the best thing I've played this WEEK (Starcraft 2 :hump), let alone this year/gen/ever.

The visual style is neat but stressful to look at. I can't really stand first-person platforming so the core gameplay always felt too trial-and-error for me to enjoy for very long. I don't hear a lot of in-game BGM, and if you're referring to the audio during the cutscenes, I'm not very fond of that music.

Snuck in a couple of hours of Just Cause 2 on PC, playing with the wireless 360 controller. Damn, this is a sharp looking game. And the time to first exploding helicopter was gratifyingly low. :rock

Also tried some StarCraft II SP but it's probably going to take a while to discover what is new vs SC I. So far it's very standard stuff. I don't think i'll even touch the MP unless i can find someone who is at my level (i.e. who still builds stuff because it looks cool).

I started playing Serious Sam again.  On one hand I prefer the pure action style of it to the modern FPS.  The game is just so much fun and makes you sweat.

OTOH

Skip to the 8:20 mark for the final room.  THAT WAS SO FUCKING HARD.  Even with the double shotgun, dodging a neverending onslaught of skeleton horse demons was way too brutal.  Even in that youtube vid the guy is losing life like crazy.  And wtf, this is only the 3rd level.  I dunno if I want to play further now.  Being stuck in a square room fending off waves and waves of spawning enemies is not so fun.  I bet this is easier with 16p coop!

Just 200'd OutRun as well. Had to boost the online achievements since that  game has been deader than dead for ages, then went and did the one for 50 single player races. I think I can safely say that OutRun is my favorite racing game of all time.

The English dub of BB is pretty great really. In fact, it's probably the best fighting game dub ever now that I think about it.

Yeah, I did the same thing back when BBCT came out and I just  got around to finishing it. The pacing of it really sucks since the matches are so short and there's a lot of story in-between, but I'd say it's pretty entertaining when the characters aren't being so melodramatic.

BlazBlue Continuum Shift: I don't get what higher-level players stand to gain from coming into player rooms I make with names like "beginner," "training," or "noob room" and just mauling all of the novices.  I kept having to kick people who would come in and annihilate whoever was up against them when it was their turn.  Go play ranked or join the higher-level rooms.  I'm sticking with Taokaka for the time being, getting a bit better.

Sengoku Basara 3: Fucking love this game.  Cleared it with three characters so far, although there are multiple paths and plenty of leveling to be done, so nobody is complete yet.  The extreme difficulty level actually seems to be pretty challenging.  Musou games are always too damn easy on their default difficulty settings; this game should have extreme unlocked from the start, but it's no big deal to clear it once on hard to get it.

Super Street Fighter IV: The usual Chun-Li antics in ranked and Juri, Honda, Cammy, Dan, and T. Hawk in player matches.

Now I want to buy this game and watch all the cutscenes in English.  Amazing voice work  :lol

It really is, not that this is saying much.   :lol  I never touched the story mode in Calamity Trigger; was doing online versus from day one.  But I always wanted to check out all the comical stuff.  I got rid of the game on PS3/360 but do have the PSP version I can play.  Haven't tried story mode in Continuum Shift, either.  It sucks that you have to clear it all to get Mu, so I just paid the stupid $2 fee to unlock her instead.

started playing ff13 again because my life sucks.  i finished that chapter where you run through the beach town and it actually sort of approached what i'd call fun.  the battles aren't quite as mindless and i'm glad something actually happens in the story that doesn't involve lots of trekking through empty wastes.  the games still way too simple tho and GOD DAMN does this music suck.

it really does.  it's so loud and obnoxious and overdramatic during the cutscenes, and everything else is bland and unmemorable.

Probably the last time I'll mention it since its easy to become obnoxious with an opinion but Mirror's Edge is a game I've never especially understood the over-done forum love for. Neat concept and great art sandwiched around a lot of flaws.

But then I could make a list of these type of games that I never got the forum love for. Add Crackdown and Demon's Souls to that list for example.

Played some Crysis late last night, hot diggety damn. It rocks. I suppose it's basically just Far Cry so far apart from the suit abilities, but they really add a lot to it. Getting around 50fps on average with everything on high at 1080p too :tophat

People dig Mirror's Edge because it's vapid and stylish. Kinda groovy and refreshing in a well-done way. Plus it's by DICE and liking non-BF DICE games gives nerd cred.

Not liking Demon's Souls though? REASONS NOW.

This, but I do love it's style though. I didn't even know about DICE until I bought ME so get outta here with that nerd cred foolishness.

I just never liked Mirror's Edge entire gimmick. Platforming + first person = no. Plus, the visual style is fine but it hurts my eyes to look at for too long because of how fucking bright and contrast-y it is. It's a goddamn beautiful game, but the dialog/story is so shit it actually made the game worse for me (which never happens because I normally don't care about video game stories), the fact that you have to die five times just to trial-and-error your way through an area is kind of bullshit, on top of the imprecise hint system. It also doesn't help that the game appears to be open-ended and allows you to take many different routes to achieve a goal, but in the end there's only one because the rest are either flukes and you broke the game or you die miserably.

And I could give a fuck about DICE, real talk.

It's probably better than Mercenaries, but it's also probably more frustrating. Sneaking around is fun but once you're detected it's like the worst game ever.
Rrrrr. Man, so sad. Wanted open world nazi hunting. :-(

To be fair it is an ok game, but pilonv is spot on about how aggravating the alert phase is and about how it takes ideas from other games and makes them worse.  The game is enjoyable enough in some of the linear missions; the open world stuff is when the game becomes a mess.  Because it takes ideas from different games, it's hard to really describe what type of open world game it is.  It's not the GTA/Saints Row style or the Mercenaries/Just Cause style, but the game still tries to have missions from both styles and the mechanics can't keep up.

Just another example of how it takes what GTA does and makes it worse:  In GTA4 there were toll bridges, or really a single toll bridge, and you knew that it was coming up because it was only on a bridge.  In the Saboteur, it feels like every few streets there is a nazi gate up blocking your path.  You could stop and show a fake passport to the officer to open the gate, but often it would glitch out and only the first gate would open, forcing you to ram the second gate anyway.  For some reason there are two gates that need to open  ??? anyway, if you run through a gate, you get into the terrible alert phase.  The game doesn't have any fast travel either, so if you have to drive a distance of half the map, which they make you do, you're expected to go through this gate nonsense several times.

I mean, if you're going to copy something, at least try and learn from their mistakes.  It's a big reason why the Saints Row series is so great.

I've come to my own personal conclusion that Valkyria Chronicles is an overrated terribly broken and unfun strategy rpg filled with slow moeblob cutscenes.

The gameplay is fundementally flawed because of the objective for each map to "secure the enemy flag guarded by like 2 guys at the end of a field of dozens" because it becomes about stacking orders on a scout, having them run past everyone and skip the entire battle and then take out the two guys and win the map.  This basically skips the actually combat and strategy and makes the maps boring.  But the game ENCOURAGES THIS which is what ultimately turns a broken gameplay mechanic into a broken game mechanic.  Because you get jack shit for xp/money from actually fighting and 90% of your xp/money is earned solely on how fast you can finish a map, if you want to get good xp/money each map you basically need to abuse the scout and avoid the entire map every time.  This sucks.  It's not fun, it's boring, it's a decent amount of trial & error attempts since the enemy layout/map layout isn't fully understood until you're in the field running through it and the loading is absolutely terrible for mid-battle saves making trial & error even worse.  But if you skip all that and just say "hey I want to have fun and shoot all the enemies with my party and advance" then you're gonna be screwed by getting low ranks and bad xp/money payout.  So basically while the core gameplay is good, the flag = win map objectives & turn-based xp/money payout is really bad and makes it a bad strategy game imo that's not particularly fun.

Then when you're not in battle, you're sitting through 20 mins of talking heads that are pretty dull.  The real cutscenes are nice and that's what should have been entirely all the story parts.

The art is great and the music is real good sakimoto, but I don't think the game underneath is particularly good.  I need to read up on the sequel and see if it's just as broken, and if it is I think I'll probably skip it.

How far in are you Bebpo? IIRC (I haven't played the game in like a year and a half), a lot of the earlier mission are basic 'get to the other end of the map and capture the base' missions, but they get more complex and varied the more you progress. And still, you're basically skipping the entire game if you're just rushing to the end of the map to win. You might  be getting an A rank by clearing it quickly, but you will still have plenty more turns available to you. The fun of the game is getting an A rank while killing all the leaders/captains/generals/tanks/whatever and dominating the stage. Plus doing that will give you the highest score possible, so you're still losing out on experience.

The scouts are definitely overpowered though, no question about that. But it's still the best RPG this gen not named Demon's Souls.

Just playing some Hydro Thunder Hurricane.
The demo sucked.

:smug
What, you're going to bring up the IGN review to defend your lame-ass viewpoint?

The game is good, the demo only scratches the surface.
