Space Junk, Gusty Garden, Good Egg, Bouy Base, Ghostly Galaxy all stick out to me from the first game.  The only one that I really liked in Galaxy 2 was the Puzzle Plank theme.

I will say I appreciate the return of slide levels in Galaxy 2. I forgot how much fun those are in mario games ever since they were introduced in Mario 64.

Best part of Galaxy 2 from what I played was the Flip Flop galaxy. That level was awesome.

The greens stars weren't well done, IMO.  Stick to the 120 campaign and the game is golden.

I love everything about this game except for the codex entries. I wish everything new bubbled to the top, but what are you going to do? Cry over it? Nope. This game is otherwise *perfect*. Why I've been away from it for so long, I have no idea.

I tried that NBA 2k11 demo and really liked it. I know no one cares about sports games here except me and maybe zero hero but just saying. I'm actually excited to pick it up this year with all the Jordan stuff in it.

I played with Shiren the Wanderer (Wii) for a few hours. The  horizontal wiimote controls kinda sucked, I then plugged in the nunchuck and those controls kinda sucked. So essentially I realised its one of those wii games that was designed for the classic controller and I put it back in its case.  Why didn't they make this for a system where it made sense?

If I was gonna play with a classic controller I might as well just trade my Wii in for credit and get an XBOX 360.  I don't particularly like the classicon anyway. It feels weird.

My Collector's Edition of Alan Wake came on the same day I got Reach so I've been putting it off until today.  Maybe it's because I had such low expectations going into it 'cause a lot of people have been down on the game but I gotta say that so far I'm liking it quite a bit.  The story seems interesting so far (again, I'm early into the thing so that may change) and graphically I think it looks pretty damn nice.

Happy I bought it.

I've played too damned much Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, and felt like checking out the widespread claim that the controls and animation simply make RDR a "Grand Theft Old West." -- so I went back and played a couple hours of GTA IV multiplayer. TLDR version: a number of marginal differences add up to make GTA IV un-fun.

Anyone complaining that the RDR controls and responsiveness are identical to GTA IV, just shut your bitch mouth now. Anyone who claims the engine is the same, shut your pie hole.

The first thing I noticed is the default camera is way, way pulled back from the character, making him a smaller part of the overall scene, and coupled with Euphoria or whatever the "leaning middleware" is, making it harder to navigate obstacles. Immediately after that, I noticed F R A M E R A T E. Fraaaaaaaaaame-raaaaaaaaaaaaaaate. Oh, it's rough. I spent a good portion of time just trying to get used to predicting where my camera would be pointed during aiming. Speaking of the GTA-style auto-aim, it is improved as well; the mechanic is largely similar, but the snap-to angle of tolerance is easier to deal with, especially considering the framerate problem.

Also noticed that all of the online menus are less easy to understand exactly what's happening. There is a big 5/16 in the upper right corner, though the participating player lobby is on the left side of the screen. The game shows your current total money/XP, but not what the next level's required total or remaining-to-next-level is.

Most egregiously unthinking when considering the online "community," the randomly chosen host has complete power over what rules are in effect for the next game, including traffic density, police presence, pedestrian presence, duration, what strength level of weaponry will appear, and the real game-changer: auto-aim on/off.

There's nothing like having some spastic 12 year old decide at the last instant that he wants a 10,000 XP limit game (no time limit!) only throwing Sticky Bombs. Or suddenly find out after 5 games with auto-aim on, that the most recent host has decided for none. I prefer RDR's multiplayer which has been crafted around predetermined weapon sets, which have separate but valid win conditions.

Most strangely of all, with all the effort which must have gone into Races, there are only points awarded for first and second place. I may have seen money for third, but there's not even a consolation prize for anything past third. That makes sense in terms of authentic race podium presentation, but not for an online game. There are so many ways they could have tossed out $50 or even $10 increments for items they're already measuring and reporting, encouraging people to play more: clear a checkpoint without taking car damage, fastest lap, fastest time to clear a checkpoint, beating your previous best time during any of those, airtime during jumps, completing the race...  It's like they don't want anyone to play anything other than Deathmatch.

Oddly, more people were playing it than Deathmatch. There were always full lobbies for races, which emptied out as people quick halfway through the race if it looked even a little like they might not win. I was in a three person race where the other guy was clearly going to win, and he even held up for a little bit, just to keep it seeming competitive. He was either having fun, or just wondering why I didn't quit like everyone else.

Hit the mid-point of Mass Effect 2 & Tales of Phantasia Narikiri Dungeon X.  It's funny because both games are about the same length (~30 hours) and I started them about the same time and they've been tracking basically neck and neck with each other so far.

Both are fun and both have some jankyness to them.  The person Bioware hired to do the 2d backdrops in ME2 is amazing.  The art on them make the game look way better than the engine actually is.

Went back to THQ's Conan (God of War), played through to almost the end. I got halfway through the last boss, realized I would not beat it before 2 a.m. if at all, and turned it off.

Holy crap, the last boss is as annoying as every previous boss, where all the subtle issues with tuning and camera and controls all come into play. It's pretty damned annoying to sink 3 hours into a boss and realize I'm not going to make it through.

The number one hit walkthrough on YouTube, the guy actually doesn't play that well, so it's not entirely useful. The GAMEFAQS walkthrough is basically: don't get hit too much.

I recall some of you boritos played it. Did you finish? If so, at what difficulty level?

Got in Just Cause 2 and was playing that last night. I like it so far. It's hitting me in the same way that a lot of you guys felt about the original crackdown (I never liked crackdown).

It's janky. A lot of the controls suck. The story and voice acting are atrocious. But god damn if the actual gameplay isn't a lot of fun.

i decided to gave etrian odyssey 2 another spin since 3 hits soon

i like spelunking around, drawing a map and getting tons of loot which is the reason i can't just leave the game alone but there are like a gazillion of things that annoyed me my first time and still annoy me a lot

1) why the only decent way to raise money is to abuse spawn spot? that's really stupid especialy since i have to make a team specific for spot milking which brings me to point 2

2) skill tree makes me cringe, they don't bring customization, they bring only ruin when a skill you tought would be usefull ends up being pointless or viceversa because the game didn't tell you the whole story or you didn't read a FAQ

3) quest give you stupid rewards,GEE A POTION,TOTALY WORTH ALL THE MONSTER I SLAYED AND THE TIME I WASTED

4) battle still feel a little slow even when i use the auto-battle option

5) i don't know if it's like this in the sequel but it still made me scratch my head that you could get the most powerfull bow in the game, halfway trough the game if you defeated a boss in a certain manner... i seems to remember reading that you can get the most powerfull whip in a similiar manner and well if it's like that,it's just stupid... put the end game weapon at the end of the game without any of this "READ A FAQ LOL" bullshit! it's such a basic rule so why won't you follow it?

6) this is something that annoys me in most atlus game, when the game kills one of your character in a single swoop, the game isn't being hard,it's being unfair

all this stuff just really hurts my enjoyement of the game,my warrior just learned a skill that supposedly deal more damage the more HP he has but guess what? IT'S BARELY AN IMPROVEMENT OVER HIS NORMAL ATTACK! bet those point are going to be wasted

The iPhone is the same with the Wii: there's a good control scheme in there when you're willing to make a game around it. Ports of existing games, trying to cram it into an existing controller paradigm just doesn't work.

The Wii isn't helping me prove my point much, except that the games it has which ARE good are built only for Wii.

I'm playing Lost Planet 2 now. I didn't really plan on playing it since I mainly bought it to trade on Goozex, but I figured what the hell. I'm up to episode 4 now and I don't really have any issues with the game, aside from the fact that bosses take forever to kill by yourself. There seems to always be a sizable amount of people playing online though, so I'll probably switch over to co-op after I play through it once solo. But really, I think the game is pretty fun so far.

On a side note: I expected it to take forever to trade on Goozex since I was 5th in line and there was nobody searching for it, but I already got a match. I think I'll decline the trade for now and try to power through this ASAP. Then I'm gonna use my points to get the new Naruto game when that comes out. 8)

I beat Lost Planet 2 last night (on normal). It's a pretty fun game and I don't really get where people are coming from when they're calling it garbage or whatever. If you liked the first Lost Planet, you'll probably like LP2 -- as long as you realize it's a co-op focused game. I do think it was a bit of a misstep to take the game in a completely different direction, by trying to make you replay missions over and over to level up and earn credits to buy new junk with, but I think Capcom did a good enough job with it. Also, the graphics are amazing, especially on the final stage. :bow Framework

Really, the worst thing about the game is the achievements. They are absolutely insane. To get them all, you need to beat the game 14+ times, play 500 online matches, and worst of all, become number 1 on any of the leaderboards. Ridiculous. I am going to try to beat it on every difficulty before I trade it though, so I hope I'll be able to get a decent amount of points out of it.

Sometimes I think that Japanese devs just don't understand Achievements. They definitely seem to favor grindy 'cheevs, and have embraced the idea that players will have to consult a yoku-aru-shitumon (FAQ) to get enough information to figure out what to do to get the gamerscore. It's some kind of "hate the player, make a hateful game" school of thought.

i got to floor 15 in etrian odyssey 2,i grinded tons of level by grinding the boss that respawn (this is stupid and twice as stupid when you think the optional enemy who roams the dungeon give you no experience at all) got myself the most powerfull axe in the game (at the start of the game because that makes sense amirite?)

and now i can't defeat this boss because even tough i'm clearly overleveled and can steamroll everything in the dungeon, including the optional enemy that roams the dungeon, their attack still kill my guys in 2 hits... i'm sorry but this doesn't make the game fun,it makes it frustating, what's going to happen now is that i'm going to spend a lot of time clicking on the rest button so i can grind the boss again (normaly i wouldn't mind but here you waste more time clicking that button, watching that clock ticking...) and then return there when i can make bigger explosion, this game is a fucking mess! how the heck were they able to reach up to 3 and gather a fanbase? better games have received a worse fate... this is just... bah!

i want to play this game where you gather loot and draw maps but everything about is so badly designed it pisses me off,and worst of all? this bad design pass off as "OLD SCHOOL,HARD,REQUIRE STRATEGY,AWESOME,YOU ARE A WUSSY IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE AH-AH!"

I tried the puzzle bots demo.  It was pretty good and had a bigger budget than I expected (decent voice acting).  Should really be on XBLA/PSN/Steam with achievements.  I've never played any of this groups games before.  Think I might need to check out Emerald City Confidential or the Blackwell Legacy sooner than later.

Tried that NBA Elite demo. Thought it was awful. That new control scheme is annoying. No way would I play that over NBA 2k.

Also played some Madden 11 over at my brother's on his PS 3. A lot of people say this is a terrible version of Madden but in the 2 or 3 games I played, I didn't see it. I thought it was decent enough for a madden title with the usual madden quirks. I did like removing the sprint button. I feel like that makes it more about executing the play rather than having a magical turbo button.

Gonna try to Marathon ME2 & Narikiri Dungeon X this weekend so I can finished up Layton 3 next week before the avalanche of new games start coming out on a weekly basis.  I'm trying to 100% ME2 on this playthrough (including all DLCs) and I'm guessing it'll take me 35-40 hours.  Around 22 hours in now.  Narikiri I'm not bothering with 100% because some of the sidequests are distinguished mentally-challenged grindy.  I mean when it takes 3 hours of grinding to get a hidden job or 1 hour of grinding to get a hidden title that has no gameplay effect, you have to ask yourself why waste the time.  Even if it was on X360 and was an achievement those aren't worth it.  But doing the rest of the Narikiri X story + a good bulk of the sidequests (game has as many sidequests as Vesperia/Symphonia), should take about 30-35 hours total and I'm 22 hours now.  So if I can get in a couple good sessions on the weekend I can probably knock them out.  Both are good, though obviously ME2 is the better between them.

Turned on my PS3 yesterday for the first time in a long while, to get the free copy of Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, and to get the Enslaved demo.

Man, PSN is slow. Sloooooooooow. Like molasses. In winter. Uphill. The Enslaved demo first said it would take 1200 minutes to download. Wow. It rapidly dropped to 900 minutes, and then hovered there for an hour. Thinking wireless may be slow, I re-started the whole process with a direct ethernet connection to my router.

"700 minutes."

Hokay, let's quit and make sure it's not doing something stupid. I checked system settings, confirmed it was using the wired connection, and reinitiated. In the end, it took two hours for 2GB. Reviewing my download history, apparently there are a lot of things I've tried to download which never finished. While the wired connection was linked, I re-downloaded all of that over the course of last night. Finally able to play some o' 'dat today.

Enslaved: pretty, but possibly makes the player feel like they're just along for the ride a little too much. Fun though.

Pixeljunk Monsters: I still don't like tower defense. Nice art style, though. Using a character in the field to do the work is cute.

Lara Croft Diablo: It's surprisingly fun.

The silly thing about PSN is that canceling a download, then starting it up again can make it download much quicker.  I still don't get why.  I'm talking three to four times the speed it was going before.

PSN is very wishy-washy.  Really seems to depend on the person's specific setup.

Most of the time stuff downloads fast for me on a wired 20gig from US PSN or JP PSN servers.  1.5 gig demo would take about 15-20 mins.  On my brother's wireless ps3 at his condo downloading from US PSN 1.5gigs would take 2-3 days.  He is literally unable to download anything larger than 300megs.  That includes patches, so games that auto-patch crash and fail for him.

But even for me, INSTALLING SHIT TAKES FOREVER.  I think that Enslaved demo took 15 mins to download, 20 mins to install.  Fuck that shit.

Speaking of PSN, for some reason Phantasy Star Portable 2 shows up in my download list, but not as a purchased game when I browse titles.  Weird.

Has anyone tried Gladiator Begins yet?  It's an Acquire-developed arena brawler with some light RPG elements.

Linkzg or jiji can tell you a lot about it when they see this topic.  The game has been getting good word of mouth since the original JP release.  I think the only disappointment was that there was an upgraded release in Japan and this is just the plain vanilla one.

I played the Gladiator Begins demo a few times and really liked it.  RPG stuff is mostly managing your gladiator with all the combat happening in the arena.  I don't know if I'd say the combat is like a brawler.  Combat is about attacking specific parts of the enemy's body to knock off armor or weapons.  It's fun to knock off and steal their shield then beat them down using double shield boxing.

I'm still waiting for Amazon to send me game credit so I can pick up the full game.

and yeah, apparently there was an upgraded version released after the localization of this one was happening.  I read up on it a while back and it is a sequel to the PS2 game Colosseum: Road to Freedom.  I never played it and apparently it wasn't by Acquire.  And don't mistake it the other PS2 gladiator game, Shadow of Rome, since that was from Capcom.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is amazing. I'm only half way through the game, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's the best Tomb Raider game ever (even though it's not technically TR). Great levels design, and for the first time in the series, the combat is actually fun. :bow Crystal Dynamics

I just bought the Lips bundle at K-Mart for $14. It's pretty fun but there's a real lack of songs on disk and available for download. The game is also very spotty about picking up that I'm singing unless I sing in a very high tone which sucks.
I'm yer huckleberry for Lips bitching: The microphones are pretty sensitive to battery level. If you use rechargeables and stay on them, they work really well. When the battery starts to get low, the accelerometer still works but it will not pick up your voice, which can be confusing when you're still registering body motion, but only about half the notes you'd normally hit are registering. ENELOOP for the win.
The base Lips game has pretty good tracks, but only 40 of them. The DLC is broader than I'd have expected, but you'll get better value by buying Number One Hits or Party Classics. If you have the original Lips game, back up your saves to an alternate Memory Unit of any kind before putting Lips' "sequel" discs. I have never been angrier at faulty, ineffective, irresponsible QA efforts as I have with MS, INIS, and Lips.

Playing a lot of stuff lately, gonna finish up a lot of stuff this weekend.

Dragon Quest 9: Got my ass kicked by Goreham-Hogg... gotta get to doin some grindin.

The Witcher: Made it to the Epilogue. Then it's time to play the 2 addon quests the Enhanced Edition came with. Will probably finish this w/e.

Mass Effect 2: Finished the Overlord DLC, and just made it onto the Shadow Broker's ship in the Shadow Broker DLC. Playing on Veteran so I had to adapt a bit to it, they throw a shit-ton of enemies at you with no checkpoints in this one, making it a bit tough. Will have this finished tomorrow.

Phantasy Star Gaiden: Still playing this awful game, though I took a bit of a break. Have one more dungeon and a lot of grindin to do, then it's up to the final dungeon. Will play some this weekend, not sure whether or not I'll finish.

Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero?: Beat the first 3 stages in the game. How long is this game? It's pretty fun, though I'm not too big a fan of the stiff, Ghouls and Ghosts, style jumping.

Half-Minute Hero: Will hopefully get to play a lot this weekend.

My brother is also gonna be home for the weekend, so we'll probably be playing a ton of SSF4, and I want him to show me Reach and that Tomb Raider top down shooter.

It's about 10 stages long IIRC.  They get exponentially harder.  By the end you are lucky to have fingers left on your hands.

yea i know
i meant that in a "hope they learned from their mistake"

i heard they totaly changed the jobs around so i guess that at least means they removed a lot of the easy to cheese abilities, which is already a good start

Yeah, I agree with you that it'd be nice if they learned stuff from SJ.  But I dunno, I love SJ!  Yet the EO games are cool, but I never finish them and they aren't fun and interesting and exciting like SJ.

i discovered a way to play wiiware wad without actualy installing them and risking fuckup of sorts so i've tried quite a few wiiware game

- Megaman 9: it's pretty good but i wish there were fewer cheap deaths,i defeated concrete man, galaxy man, magma men, hornet man and splash woman in that order, jewel man miniboss keeps kicking my ass! half of the music is really catchy!

- FFCC My Life as a king: boring as death! i tought this was going to be a management game ala majesty but it feels more like a "waiting for message to appears" game

- Bit Trip Series: every game of this serie feels like a casual flash game, too barebone to explicit anything higher than a "meh"
the pong one perfectly catch the 80 feeling of playing pong with an incredibly jittery controller,
the runner one makes a nice atari reference
i guess that's about it

- Muscle March: it would be very fun if the wiimote was more reactive but as it stands it suffer from the same problem of samba de amigo, the wiimote just don't pick your gesture quickly enough to match the speed required from the game which lead to a lot of unfair game overs, otherwise
GREATEST WIIWARE GAME EVAH!

- Cubello: i played only the first 2 stages but it looked like a nice puzzle game

- Penta Tentacles: likewise same as cubello,i dig the japanese taiko sounds effect

- Tomena Sanner: plays like bit trip runner with only one button and only 9 stages,it's barebone but it's really weeeeeeeeeeeeird

- Cave Story: no reason to play this one as i played it on pc twice but i was curious to see the new graphics and music... the graphic update is decent but the music is totaly ruined :-\

- Pokemon Snap: i know it's not a wiiware game but this finaly gave me a chance to try it,it's nice and original but it somewhat lacks in action and sometimes it can get frustating when the game ask you to take a photo of 30 different pokemon and yet you know only where to find 29 of them
