but anyway is there any reason to equip a skill accessory on mortals? do they have the skill as long as they keep the accessories around? is there any difference between learning a skill by linking with a mortal or trough an accessory? i could learn "steal" with both and just went with learning it by linking to jansen just to save myself the money required to buy the accessory

Haven't  played the game in a long time, but i will try

1.Yes,they have that skill as long as accessory is equipped...so you should equip accessory, learn the skill and give it to a mortal(if he doesn't have it)
2.No,immortals can learn skills through accessories and linking,no difference...one costs money, that is all

Immortals have basically no skill, they have to learn everything, mix them up with mortals and change them often if you want them to learn
Might prove useful  later ;)

Also if you haven't noticed, every area is level capped...fast progress until you reach target level, slow after that

PURE continues to impress. I just seems to become more fun the further I get to know the tracks and the better my ride becomes through unlocked parts. I should have kicked that PURE-hating kid in his vagina at Gamestop, you were right.

Dance Central is a little disappointing, I think because I was hoping it would bring Rock Band-like polish to the "pretend to be a cool dancer"  not easy on Easy, and not moderate on Medium. The icons are pretty good to jog my memory of what move I'm about to have to do, but there are some moves that just don't seem to register in the Kinect sensor. And there are other moves that I just can't seem to get, even during a Break It Down practice session. And 240 MS Points for a single song? What the hell is the rationalization behind that? 160 MSP for Rock Band tracks, which have separate tablature data for four instruments and up to three vocal tracks across four different difficulties, but Dance Central only has one set of audio data and three difficulty levels? I call shenanigans.

Bought Baldur's Gate II Complete off GOG the other day so I'd have something to play on my netbook.  This is like my 3rd attempt at playing this one 'cause the D&D universe just isn't appealing to me at all but I'll give it another go since the entire internet seems to have a massive hard on for the game.

I still need to get back to Deadly Premonition but it kind of pissed me off when I got the police radio and found out how useless that was.  All it does is bring you right back to your previous location.  BULLSHIT on that.  Driving around sucks ass in DP and I was really counting on that radio to help a brother out.

And I'm playing the waiting game for my new PC to arrive.  Never bought an Alienware before so I'm kind of looking forward to it getting here.

while i do like the thousand year dreams, simply scattering them trough the game wasn't a very good idea, you are scouring the city punching every bag/trash can/plant/pot/crate/stones/treasure chest when suddenly kaim see a little child and *WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSH*

"do you want to watch the new dream?"

then the game does his thing and after 5 minutes you are like.... "what the heck was i doing? oh right! treasure!"

also

i forgot the last time i have seen such one dimensional villainy since.... since forever!

nah if i really wanted to bring down lost odyssey all i had to do was post a video from the part where you have to escape from prison trough an unrequired stealth sequence :smug

in all seriousness i do think it's good but so far there hasn't been any spark between me and the game because it just feels generic and somewhat slow,i went trough the first dungeon and it was just a boring looking mountain where i had to punches blue bird, and the second was a beach where i had to punch slugs, and from what i understand the third is just a forest, heck i wouldn't be surprised at all if later off the heroes end up on a ghost pirate ship

the premise of kaim living forever is interessing but it's only used in the thousand year dreams sequence, instead the actual plot

follows the same gimmick of vagrant story
"HOW DID THE HERO FAMILY DIE?"
well guess what i don't really care....

Beat Planescape: Torment, beat Cthulu Saves The World... now onward to Vagrant Story, next weekend.

Started Ys: Oath in Felghana on PSP as well, for my lunch game. Just made it to the volcano area. I beat the game on PC already, now I'm playing the PSP port. It's amazing but some of the sprites are extremely tiny, and things tend to be hard to see on the small screen.

1000'd Split Second. Glad I'm done with that turd. There's a solid game buried in there, but there's so much garbage bogging it down. Maybe SS2 will be good.

Now I'm playing some Rondo of Blood and Prinny 2 while watching West Coast Warzone 3. The $15,000 MvC2 money match right now is the hypest shit I've ever seen :lol

Gonna play Heavy Rain again once WCW is done. Going for the bad ending should be interesting.

Went back to playing The 3rd Birthday now that I finished my replay of the old PoP trilogy.  If T3B was on consoles it'd be a pretty awesome action game.  On PSP it's still a great game but I'm fighting the controls/camera A LOT which is frustrating and hurts my enjoyment.  I hate how Japanese companies don't think "hey we want to make this game, where would it work best?" and instead think "boss says PSP is selling hot, you want to make a TPS?  Figure out how to make it work on psp" :(

The biggest shame of Japan going all handheld and consoles dying is that some genre just don't work on the 1 analogue handheld systems.  If consoles are going to disappear in Japan, then PSP2 w/2 analogues please take off.

magus is very hard on every game he plays. Is there a game he actually likes?

Hating on Lost Odyssey and Vagrant Story, wtf

i did like FF13 and prototype before playing lost odyssey and once again it's not like i think it's bad
it's just that i don't feel like blooming happiness if i think the game is generic even if it's good, for example valkyrie profile 2 feels generic to me but radiata stories has this really cool cell-shaded style and you get to stalk every NPC in city, and there is this guy who every night hits the bar and gets drunk as shit, and that's quite unlike any rpg i played of!

so Radiata Stories >>>>> Valkyrie Profile 2

FFXIII might get a lot of flacks because "it's just a series of tunnel" but it features an unique battle system and somewhat unique looking monster (even tough yes there are recolors and yes a lot of them are just robo-version of normal monster) lost odyssey just don't looks as interessing and feature your standard battle system found in any JRPG ever,it really reminds me of that time when i was scrounging for gamecube games and i ended up playing stuff like skies of arcadia

that's why the next game i'm going to aim for is going to be resonance of fate because i expect it to be different from your average fantasy JRPG just because it's set in the future,it's not a sequel of any sort and i heard it has a very weird battle system

but anyway i finished the first dvd of lost odyssey so onward the second hoping there won't be a volcano dungeon! (since apparently there is no pirate ship...)

Quote
but it does feature a villain who does bad shit and gives our heroes advice just because.

but that villain has good (even if simple) reason to do so,in that movie i posted the soldier there just lacks some kind of villainy moustache's and then they are set for maximum pointless jerkiness

I'll take LO's traditional, albeit fun, battle system and immense customization over FF13's rav/rav/com autobattle any day.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the villain wants to piss off the heroes into becoming ragnarok so that ragnarok can murder orphan so that he can have the all-wipe out apocalypse because blablabla human? (a reason that comes often in SMT which supposedly have the best plot ever by the way!) i mean it's like the japanese version of hulk only instead of "HULK SMASH!" it's "HULK DESTROY WORLD!" heck half of the ending is spent with the villain murdering fang over and over just to push her into HULK RAGE

see here's another thing that bug me in LO,in LO you are doing your thing when suddenly RANDOM BATTLE,then the camera shifts around the screen for a while, then it shifts to the heroes readying their weapon, then i'm finaly able to give command, then i have to watch my character do all their "RUNNING TOWARD THE ENEMY" animation, then they do the victory pose

assuming that in both case i'm fighting mock enemies that only requires me to attack until everybody is dead,in the time it takes me to be done with a single battle in LO,i would have done at least 3 of them in FF13

tough there is one thing i appreciate a lot in LO,while so far it hasn't really mattered much,it's nice to see when the developer try to add unique gimmick to each boss

the villain is barthandelus, also know as "that guy who kinda look like an evil pope" then in the ending he becomes orphan or maybe orphan pops out after he dies... this is really quite hand-weaved tough i would like to go with the "becomes orphan" option since that happens right after MYSTERIOUS LOOKING OWL ends up together with him,in any way i don't see why this is a problem pulling giant space flea out of his ass is what final fantasy do and if anything this one is announced and actualy integrated to the plot

nor do i see why that's matter in regarding to "is FF13 villain a jerk just because he's a jerk?"

yeah the rest of LO's cheevs are easy but that one took me for a fucking ride. 15 hours of item hunting with a checklist and reading fourms for hours and shit. Still didn't get it. I'm pretty sure the item is in a town beacuse I went through all the dungeons with a step by step walkthrough and item checklist.

I'm thinking of trying for it again soon.

Yeah, LO's battle system was REALLY boring. The ring system was cool (you could swap in and out mid battle) but I hated how when you give your party commands they don't act on them until everybody has been given the commands. Makes each turn take way to long and the battles feel about as static as a turn based RPG gets.

yea i'm using a list for the treasure trove achievement too!

guess what bore? there was no ghost ship dungeon

BUT THERE WAS A GHOST MANSION!
i'm like some fucking JRPG fortune-teller
*sigh* at least this one had more charm than bird mountain, and ehy the boss look pretty kickass too!

i've also noticed that character out of your party don't gain XP,ultimately that's not a big problem since low level character gains truckload of experience in a single fight but it's still a pretty lame oversight

the sidequest i unlocked also looks pretty cool but i guess i won't be able to dabble too much into it until later in the game amirite?

The treasure trove achievement isn't that bad. If you follow a guide you'll get it without much hassle just by playing to the end of the game. The most annoying achievements are the ones for learning every skill with every character. It takes a ton of grinding and you're always going into menus to swap out equipment and link new skills. Very tedious.

Honestly, I think a Japtard sfag like you would dig it.  LO is a decent FF clone aside from the subpar presentation.  The game inexplicably has some of the worst art despite hiring so many famous Jap artists.  Still, the gameplay and story would probably keep you interested if you're a fan of traditional JRPGS.  It's got the same ol' epic story and rock-paper-scissors gameplay of almost every turn-based JRPGS.  I'd even say that the combat is slightly better than usual because you can change gear during battles which prevent your characters from being completely useless in certain battles, which is one of my pet peeves about rock-paper-scissors combat.

Where the heck did you get that impression?  He made Final Fantasy in the first place because the company he worked for was in imminent danger of going bankrupt and ripping off Dragon Quest was the safest bet in Japan at that point.  He even yanked the world and enemy creatures directly out of D&D.  Final Fantasy came into this world regurgitating someone else's material.

I can't find the specific interview he speaks of this but, he has said that his reason for creating Final Fantasy was because he was tired of the state of Squares game development and wanted to create something fresh with Final Fantasy for himself and I'm sure with the hope of reviving Square from impending closure. Sure Dragon Warrior/Quest had already come out and it borrowed from D&D but for a game of the time it was really original and NOT a stale concept, 23 years later however....

Back on SSF4 again after a "break" for about a month.  Was still playing it a bit, but only a couple of matches a week.

Also got Arcana Heart 3 on Saturday.  Unlike Suggoi! Arcana Heart 2, which was the biggest piece of shit I played in 2009, AH3 is a really good port.  Arc System Works handled the home conversion, and it shows in the excellent online play, which is very similar to BlazBlue's online system.  The arcade version of the game is meant to be played on a 4:3 screen, but the home version contains a 16:9 setting that doesn't stretch out the sprites or the backgrounds.  It does have an effect on how some of the Arcanas function, however, so most people are playing in 4:3 mode.  You can also choose to have animated images of the characters appear in the borders, reacting to the game play.  It looks cool, but can be distracting.  The game speed doesn't feel any faster than the previous games, but the pacing is now faster, because you can use the homing button without it taking away meter.  Yes, this is an all-girl fighting game, but there are some interesting designs/movesets, and it's pretty light on the fan service, save for one or two characters.  No panty shots or anything like that, although the game is most definitely moe like crazy and loli is contained within.  It's fun to play, but I see it as a second-tier fighter that won't get as much attention from me after Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 hits next month.

they copied pictures from the monstrous compendium

He might try to sugar coat what they did in hindsight, but how hard is it to hash out what really happened there?  Mediocre software company in immediate danger of bankruptcy releases game in the same style and genre as the previous year's runaway hit.

Sure, the concept wasn't *as* tired at that point, but by Xmas 87 when FF came out, there were more Dragon Quest rip-offs releasing in Japan than WWII shooters in the mid-00's in NA.

Bah. And DQ took ideas from Ultima. Fact is FF was really different to DQ no matter how you spin it, or how many monsters they 'stole' from D&D.

According to Chrontendo, there weren't really too many DQ rips, (most tended to go the Zelda route or mash up Zelda and DQ) and fewer quality ones... Momotaru Densetsu being one of the only good ones. FF was pretty novel when it was released, and it was far better than any other RPG released up to that time (of course, Phantasy Star released a few days later and quickly usurped FF1's position)

Rock paper scissors combat? Are you sure you aren't getting LO confused with the Alex Kidd games?

If someone comes out with a Call of Duty Black Ops knock-off this year, would you believe them if they said they did it because they felt gaming was getting stale?

Well if CoD BlOps was one of the first FPS games and then say BFBC (let's say BFBC2 but assume it was the first game) came out soon after I would say that BFBC was a fresh game. FF differentiated itself well from DQ. Anyway, not the point of what I was trying to say. What I was trying to say is that Sakaguchi is getting old and kinda boring. That said Last Story looks cool.

Basic gist of LO combat is based on the elements (Fire>Wind>Ground>Water>Fire).  How is that not RPS?

Raped the shit out of Ratchet Crack in Time. For the "special" boss I just sat in front of it and blasted it with the Ryno V... hilarious

Guess I'll try Dot 3D Heroes next

Hmm, I'm starting to think Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 isn't that great. Bomb style isn't very fun to play since the laser is so weak, strong style isn't very fun to play because it's too powerful, and power style isn't very fun to play because you only get no bombs*, and instead have to rely on hypers to make it through wave after wave of undodgeable bullet patterns. Consistently activating the Ura bosses is pretty annoying too. But I dunno, maybe I'm just not feeling it right now. I gotta spend some more time with it before deciding if I want to buy Black Label or not... but that Ketsui arrange mode looks too good to pass up.

At least Arrange A is still awesome.

I hope Aksys localizes AH3. I would import it, but I don't want to be one of like 20 westerners who have the game, so whenever I play online it'd be against laggy Japanese players. It does look pretty good, but like you said, with MvC3 coming out, not to mention the eventual SSF4 Arcade Edition DLC and KoF13 port, I don't think I would devote enough time to AH3 to be any good at it.

i finished disc 2 of lost odyssey, the mansion dungeon was nice even tough it still falls pretty close in the grand list of JRPG trope (or at least close enough that i guessed there was one!) the boss looked ultra-complicated but all i needed to do was spam that "no-elemental-damage-all" (i think it's called shadow or umbra?) spell and he was done

then there was a boring cave and oh god was it boring! it even had holes that sent you to a previous room, that's like the worst trick a JRPG can pull off,i think the only part i don't like of nocturne is when you have to go trough the 3 temples and it's because it has those fucking holes!

but anyway the cave boss had several flunkies with him but they all went down in 2 attacks, the boss itself had barely any more HP than the flunkies so he too died in a few hits

then i got to a ghost town which had a nice air to it,it had talking cars and creepy swinging dolls and paired with numara (which i keeps reading as nomura for some reason) it was probably the only place i have seen so far with a modicum of personality

then the heroes got to a boat and as JRPG rule dictate, you can't travel on a boat without being attacked by some monster, but this one had the interessing gimmick... there was a boss and 3 flunkies, everytime you hit the boss he disappeared and to make him reappear you had to defeat the 3 flunkies but everytime he disappeared the 3 flunkies reappeared so in short i had to murder lot of flunkies

anyway the boat takes the heroes to a mechanical complex and it was somewhat of a pain to navigate (tough at least there is some bombastic uematsu music which kinda reminds me of FF7 :rock) one interessing gimmick is that some door could only be opened with keys but you had to steal the keys from a certain enemy while engaged in battle...

after that the heroes meet the villain and the whole discussion goes like

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Heroine: YOU KILLED MY FRIEND
Villain: no it was you
Heroine: NO U!
Villain: UUUUU!
Heroine: SHUT UP YOU ARE MEAN! :(
Villain: YOU GUYS ARE THE VILLAINS!
Hero: NO U ARE THE VILLAIN!!1!
[close]

then you fight the guy and he spouts taunt everytime you hit him like some kind of villanous pinata, after that he murders your party in a single attack..... yes it's one of those fight you are supposed to lose that are designed just to make you waste the occasional healing item, you haven't seen one of these since... FF9? no wait i still think you need to punch your way to defeat in FF9

then after that.....
spoiler (click to show/hide)
.....the prince who thinks the villain is a good guy comes in
Prince: WHAT HAPPENED HERE?
Villain: CLEARLY A BUNCH OF ASSASSINS!
Prince: BUT THIS IS THE QUEEN OF A NEARBY COUNTRY!
Villain: A MURDEROUS COUNTRY!
Prince: AND THERE ARE LITTLE KIDS!
Villain: MIDGET NINJA'S!
Prince: AND A LITTLE KITTEN
Villain: A MAN EATER PANTHER CLEVERLY DISGUISED!
[close]

then the tower start self destruct and the villain takes a moment off just to do the best villain laughter he can pull off and after that the heroes escape

there i guess that's a pretty good summary of disc 2

DCU Online

I made a heroic, dual-blade wielding, fire-powered chick. I tried to use Zatanna as my base character model, but there are no fish-net stockings in the costumes selection. So instead I went with thigh-high boots and a mini-skirt, to go with my business top and top hat. Then I found out that the in-game armor replaces your costume anyway, which is stupid. Game is pretty cool so far, though.
