I got Dead to Rights: Retribution from Gamefly today. Only played the first level, but I'm liking it so far. Great animation, solid mechanics, decent graphics. The writing, story, and voice acting all seem to be pretty bad though. But other than that, I like it. Gonna try to finish it before I get Muchi Muchi Pork by Thursday/Friday.

Getting in the MW2 groove again, got a killstreak of 26 with the AC-130.

So, is Black Ops real good?

More or less air-clutter than MW2?

Dead Space 2 is complete. Time to play something new:

Majin and Forsaken Kingdom
Red Dead Redemption
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Heavy Rain

What say you, EB?

Seems obvious to me.

Do you mean like attack choppers in the MP and such? Still there, just, not usually until near the latter part of a match. Almost non-existent outside of FFA, in my experience.

So, is Black Ops real good?

It solely depends on what aspects you enjoy about MW 2. I much prefer Black Ops. I think its the much better designed game. I play it most evenings. Some people who kinda like the craziness of MW 2 prefer that game.

There are some individual aspects of MW 2 that I prefer over Black Ops but as a whole like I said I think Black Ops is a lot better. Air support is much less powerful than in MW 2. The killstreaks in general play a less important role than in MW 2.

Well, in MW2, a few kills into the match the air starts filling up with flying menaces, to the point where you at some points can't even launch your own air menace because there is too much shit in the air. Granted that I pretty much only play TDM, but MW2 has always felt like it has been all about the killstreaks.

Also, the perks, how are they? Can you still hooverskate-knife your way through?

No, no more weird hybrid classes based on perk assembly and there are never more than say, three airborne vehicles at a time that I've seen.

EDIT: Basically if you love MW2, but tire of the insane balance issues in that game, get Black Ops.

As long as some people on your team carry a launcher and someone has ghost which generally happens, Air Support is less effective. Especially in something like TDM. Like I said its less effective than in MW 2 all around. There is even a killstreak itself which is a turret that takes down air support.

The knifing distance is far less than in MW 2 no matter what your set-up is.

Like I said from a design side, its better than MW 2 in pretty much every way. There are some things that I specifically like about MW 2 over black ops. I think the net code was better in MW 2. I think the maps were better in MW 2 as a collective group. And I think the graphics were better in MW 2. But when it comes to actually playing the game, its a more balanced take on COD on the mp side compared to MW 2 in pretty much every way possible.

Finished Wanted: Weapons of Fate, and popped a few additional 'cheevs through chapter replay. I'm not sure if I'll replay on the newly unlocked Killer difficulty. It doesn't seem particularly hard, and there are another couple hundred Achievement points for the taking, but the game just isn't much fun.

tl;dr - probably going to step away from this. Grin had the base of a decent game here, the story was good, the voice actors are all the original actors, but it's likely that the push to get this and Terminator and Bionic JOmando out at the same time robbed them of much needed tuning.

The game is designed to be a cover shooter, sure, but it's SO solely designed to be a cover shooter that non-cover movement feels unnatural and un-tuned. The "Get your ass into cover" button only works if you're facing the cover, not just if you're standing immediately adjacent to it. When in cover, free rotation of the camera more than 90º will cause your character to stand up, away from cover. And, you know, get shot.

Combine these complaints: You're in a room full of enemies and cover. You run toward a low crate and take cover. As you sight down the room, and see four enemies shooting, you notice one enemy move out of view to the right, possibly flanking you. Rotating the camera to see if he's actually moving, your character STANDS UP OUT OF COVER. He begins to be shot. You mash the cover button, but you're facing away from the wall now. You move toward the wall, but the non-cover movement means your character doesn't immediately turn to face the wall. And the "cover" button doesn't work unless you're facing the wall which you're right next to. However, there was a nice big open space to run across and other cover 9 meters away from you, so your character sprints toward that instead, and gets shot.

Soooo.......

Arcade mode of Razing Storm, Time Crisis 4 and Deadstorm Pirates with a Move controller? AWESOME ARCADE FUN FOR THE FAMILY.

Story mode of Razing Storm with the Move and a Navigation controller? BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT EVER.

Oh my God, it's terrible and almost unplayable. :lol

This is something that would drive Trophy whores insane, seeing how all of the trophies are from the Story mode.

Story Mode requires a Move controller and navigation controller (or you can use a regular controller). The problem is that you use the Move to look around, but it's horribly broken and doesn't really work. At all. You turn incredibly slow and are often dead before you can even see the enemy. :lol

Story mode is a small portion of the package, however. There are arcade ports of Razing Storm, Time Crisis 4 and Deadstorm Pirates that just require a Move controller and play like regular old arcade rail shooters. They're great fun. I wouldn't go out and buy a Move just for it, but if you end up with one and like rail shooters, it's fun.

Good. I wanted to just buy it on a whim because despite critics the gameplay actually looked pretty awesome, so I'm glad I would've made the right chose. However, I'm still waiting for the bargain bin on this one.

:bow Best RPG ever

I had no power for the last few hours, so I had to stop playing Dead to Rights (which is quickly becoming awful -- just another slow, boring, shitty Gears-alike). Instead, I've been playing 999, which has been great so far. Gonna play this to the end in between the million other games I'm playing right now. This is how backlogs pile up :-\

Nier

Finally came in the mail today, so I put in an hour and a half. I really like it so far, aside from the unfortunate PS2 levels [seriously, what's up with THAT?]. But, it's at least got some great music and, you know, towns, NPCs, sidequests, and stuff. My kind of RPG.

Was dicking around on an NES emulator for the past week hopping in and out of some classics since I couldn't find a game out of my backlog to sit down and play. Rumbler's post above reminded me that I own Nier and I decided to pop it in my 360 and try it out. I'm a little ashamed that I waited this long to play it. It's really, really good. I just wish I had my 360 hooked up to a massive TV to do the awesome in-game towns some real justice. The music is fantastic, the combat's pretty good for an ARPG, and the voice acting is sharp.

The story is just crazy so far. Can't wait to dig deeper.

P.S. Also finally got to play Amped 3. Jesus christ this game is awesome/stupid/insane/fun.

Started playing New Vegas, Dead Money.  It's solid so far after a couple of hours.  I really enjoy Obsidian's Fallout, the mood, writing and backstories are top notch.  But the 800 million useless trinkets of junk you can pick up that Bethesda brought to Fallout still urks me as taking the time to go through every drawer in every room because I'm OCD is zzz.  I'm using duckroll's endgame save because I formatted my hard drive after putting 60 hours into finishing NV and so I had no character to do the DLC.  It's kind of neat because I was all machine gun guy and his save guy is all sneak & melee.  I need to find the command line codes though because he doesn't have his lockpick/science/medical/repair where I want them to be so I can't access stuff >_<

Probably will play through this over the next day or two and then will get back to Read Dead now that I have time and finish up the next half.  Then it's time for Catherine yay.

So I started again tonight expecting the same thing to happen but this time I stuck with it and now I'm over the initial hump. And god damn is this game fucking charming. I'm pissed that there won't be any more of these now way after the fact when it was relevant.

Like an idiot, I finished WANTED on Killer difficulty. If anything, I'm more frustrated with the inconsistencies they deliver. I've redacted a treatise on its flawed gameplay model. It's just... frustrating, how close they get to having it be a really good, tense game, and then a few cheap decisions were rushed through which make it kinda crappy.

Yeah, it's an absolutely great game. I can't tell who they made it for though. It's fun for kids if they just want to mess around in it, but it's not easy to get all the piñata to visit su gardeña without a FAQ. Demi says he didn't have a problem, but I remember holding a Flutterby guide wadded up in one hand at 2 a.m. wondering what I'd done wrong in my life to deserve this.

I haven't picked up the sequel because I'm afraid of those late night sessions. Man, it wiped me out a few times.

Trying to beat Hard Corps Uprising without dying is really, really hard. It's probably the hardest achievement I've ever attempted. Usually I can do stages 1-5 without a problem. Stage 6 can be a bitch since there are no health pickups and instadeath is everywhere if you're not careful.  Stage 7 is challenging from start to finish, and the mid-boss on stage 8 instakills you if your reflexes are not on point. So Hard Corps is pretty hardcore. Might try to co-op with someone else who's good to try and make things easier. :-\

Amazing game though. It's pretty much tied with Muchi Muchi Pork for GotY so far.

I'm really enjoying myself but I think the game does a really pour job with its tutorial and early pacing. It throws so much shit at you and the creatures start appearing so quickly and time starts passing that I always felt overwhelmed and confused. Once you get past that part its a lot better, but that's the main problem of the game to me. I can imagine a lot of people who even bought or tried the game were put off by how poorly it teaches you how to play it.

Yeah, this was one of the first 360 games I got, was attracted to the art style... but the overwhelming amount of tutorials and shit going on really bothered me at the onset... then after a set amount of time, it seemed like your garden was too small to make shit go on, and the pacing of the game slows to a crawl.

Think I'm gonna start Fable II finally, after I do some errands :P

Been playing some more NIER, now I'm up to about 5 hours. I really like it so far, although running back and forth to do all the quests is a bit repetitive. Nothing too bad though, I can deal with it. Not the best JRPG I've played this year [Resonance of Fate is still better], but it is better than some of the more hyped JRPGs I've played this year.

Most of the side quests in Nier are bad. The strength of the game is its variety of gameplay styles & its story. Just make sure you play it at least twice (preferably 4 times for the whole story).

isn't there an achievement for finishing the game under 15 hours? wouldn't that push you into speed running it first time if you were trying to 1000/1000?

yes there is, and the only way to get that achievement is if you do it on your first playthrough. it's not possible on new game+.

Viva Pinata was charming but it had some huge gameplay issues too.

1. The stupid mating game.
2. It was very by the numbers, breed x race x to get x. But this wasn't disclosed anywhere so you end up dicking around in this very limited playing field which is way too small and limited for any sim/god game for way too long waiting on something new to happen. This is what games like Sim City get right, you gradually evolve your options and have more and more to do on a big field, but to be good you need to really get it. In Viva Pinata nothing really evolves and you don't get more options UNLESS you discover by freak accident how to get something new to plant/do. Yes I know this was done to make it more. This was probably to make it feel more organic, like a nice sandbox, but the by the numbers approach made it more mechanic. All these strict and unlclear conditions + no room to experiment = meh.

Yeah. I'd say its biggest problem is that -despite- all those tutorials, it never says anything like "The easiest way to manage your garden is to limit the number of piñata you have in it." The tutorials show you how to have so much, the game keeps throwing new stuff at you, but it's counterintuitive to say, "No, I don't want this new piñata which just FINALLY showed up."

It was really frustrating to have so many fights going on all the time, I was crazy, frantically busy, and then I read a FAQ which said I should only ever have three, maximum four breeds of piñata at any given time. After that, the game became a breezy breeze.
