Lots of LA Noire. Still not fun.

The only bright side is that it makes Prince of Persia 2008 seem like an absolute thrillfest.

Damn, that IS crap.  I was kind of interested for a while, but the more I read the more I think LA Noire is unfortunately meh.

After Stoney pointed out the driving and shooting aren't fun, the game immediately gave me a mission to drive a city bus' entire route to catch up with the bus. Not like a bus has a schedule, where it will generally be near a certain stop at a certain time, where I could go there, and maybe wait a minute or two for the driver to show up at his appointed stop. Nope. I drove the entire route before catching up.

You know what? There was an overlay on the minimap for the bus' route. There's no overlay for any other destination, apparently, but there's one for this bus route.

Then there was a goal to go where a tax has been spotted. Once you get there, it's scripted that he's already gone, and then you get the call to drive somewhere else again. I thought cabs were radio dispatched. Maybe not in 1947, I guess. It would make more sense to call the cab company, give them the cab number, and then have him come in for questioning, or at least stay the hell put. I guess if they consider him a suspect, it would be better not to give him the chance to bolt. In that case, though, instead of being "spotted," why don't the police who identify the cab intercept it and have it wait until Cole arrives?

Then I got up to the part where the BD murderer starts taunting Cole with verses of Shelley, and you have to identify the LA landmark which coincides with each verse. In the Map, the text in each description is the clue.

I just am not enjoying the writing, or the junction of how the writing meets the gameplay, enough to continue.

I put Batman: Arkham Asylum in, and am having fun playing a videogame again.

I just hated how almost every 'extra' mission at release was guys on roof shooting- climb ladder and shoot guys. Game was just crazy boring to me.

I played through a lot of Deus Ex a few months ago. The basic thing to keep in mind is that the stealth is kind of broken, you can just blow through levels killing everybody in sight and suffer only a few very minor penalties.

got the graphics mod working and played i through a little farther. i can definitely see what's really cool about the game. it's a shame i didn't start playing games primarily on my PC until fairly recently because I could see this (and a slew of other games) being something I would have gotten into.

hopefully the new Deus Ex is good.

At the time it was mindblowing. For a number of years after that I would always say it was my favorite game ever. I'm not sure I still hold that opinion but that doesn't take away how amazing it was at the time.

woo, beat my high score in Akai Katana using Type 1 this time.

I need to get a new high score with Type 2 now, that way I'll be ranked either #2 or #3 with each ship. I gotta say, from my perspective, the ships in this game are remarkably well balanced. That's even more impressive when you consider that all three of them play completely differently. Amazing game. GOTY 2011 in fact.

I'm about 8 hours into Assassins Creed Brotherhood now. I'm starting to enjoy it a lot more. It's definitely an improvement over AC2, with lots of stuff to do and collect. I'm enjoying just going around, finding treasure chests, recruiting assassins, leveling those guys up by sending them on contracts, climbing and burning towers, buying shops... It's got the classic "just one more" sandbox hook. I was like "I'll put this down for the night, after I buy this next group of shops." Then I'm like, oh theres a viewpoint nearby, I'll just go and sync that then I'm done", then the viewpoint uncovers more crap to buy and I'm like fuuuuuuuuuck.

I like it how the game is set in one big city rather than multiple smaller towns in the previous games. The ancient roman ruins are very cool to explore, and I like how the ancient, old and newer districts of Rome are clearly deliniated.

I'm not gonna go for the 1000 in this though, the multi cheevs sound like a pile of bulcrap and grindan. I'll 100% the single player portion then move onto something else.

Spent some time yesterday playing the 360 on my ASUS LED monitor.  It's still better than the HDTV I got back in January...time to get an extra AC adapter, so I can play on this monitor without having to remove all the cable-ties and crap from my AV rack.

Played SSF4, Mortal Kombat, and finally got back into Dynasty Warriors 7.

Piece of shit Xbox be damned, I finally beat the fucking game and got a good score.

The only thing that I think could be better about this game, is the stage 5 boss in Zetsu/Shin. Her bullet patterns are great, but I think they really messed up her gold payouts and health breaks. Pretty much every other boss has a big pattern right before their health break, and if you time it right you'll get a huge burst of gold. But with this stage 5 boss, you'll be lucky to get 100-200 hits out of both opportunities, which is pretty terrible. And I think they should've given her another health break, right before she moves on to her final pattern. Oh well, it's not a huge problem. The stage is still awesome and she's fun to fight.

And the character balance might not be as great as I thought... I think type 2 has higher scoring potential than the other two ships (despite the #1 score being type 1...), mainly because it's really easy to build your meter with him. His ninja mode laser can be hard to use effectively, but I think his meter building more than makes up for it. Anyway, game's amazing.  Best thing to come out of Cave since Futari (aka the game of the generation), in my opinion.

It is fun. It's a fun game. It's fun for the first three "chapters" -- about 60 missions or so? But the big thing about Angry Birds is that the creators seem to think their one cute physics toy should become the basis of a media empire.

well, for their part, angry birds IS becoming a media empire

kids have angry bird shirts and angry bird back packs. I go to Hot Topic and it's full of angry bird shit. Wouldn't be surprised if they make an Angry Birds cartoon at this point.

He said "seem to think" as in, it's not proven it can be done or that it's not popular enough to become a media empire, when in fact it's the opposite, which is sad because Angry Birds sucks. But honestly, if I had a product that popular I'd do the same shit.

nah, he said "seem to think (it) should" as in, they believe it ought to be

that it *is* is the reality, that it *ought to be* is another can of worms entirely

It is the reality that there are T-shirts and lunchboxes? Great! Good for them. I was actually expressing doubt over the company's statements that their value should be appraised "somewhat north of PopCap," and they are self-publishing a book, and are working on a movie.

As sceneman pointed out, it's an inconsistent physics toy for casuals. I don't need a movie with voices by Tim Allen and Jim Carrey. I don't think anyone needs that.

Just played a credit of Mushi Futari 1.5 Original for the first time in a long time. I used Abnormal Palm, cleared the game, and got a new high score - 230m. I'd like to hit 300m with either Reco or Palm someday, but I have a hard time keeping that game at a high rank, because I always wind up bombing some bosses and dropping a huge chunk of my meter. I'd have to put some real effort into training mode to get a good score on there. meh.

I really hate going so long without playing a game too. I look at my 500+ million Maniac score, and I just don't think I can do that again without spending another 10 hours relearning everything I used to do. :-\

edit: Got a new score in Muchi Pork with Ikuo (the blue pig-woman) as well. 122m, up to the final boss. I totally forgot all of his patterns, so I just tried bomb spamming him to make it into the second loop. That didn't work out so well. No big deal, game's still amazing.

"YEAH!"

These are the words that appear (in Japanese, of course) on an advertisement for Muchi Muchi Pork, a 2007 shooter from Cave.

I was hoping there would be more info on the story and characters, since I have almost no idea what the hell is going on. He basically just gave some brief history and detailed the game's various mechanics, but I guess it was still a decent rea--

Quote
Muchi Muchi Pork is not one of Cave's more well-regarded shooters

The fuck is this shit. It may have done poorly in the arcades, but the game is absolutely awesome - probably one of Cave's top 5, quality wise. Only problem I have with it is the excessive boss milking it takes to get a decent score. I just don't bother doing it.

The stealth is so easy when you jack up your pistol skill though. You can line up super accurate silenced single hit crit kills with blindfire cover. I also love how goofy the aiming is. Your entire body can be like on the other side of a wall, but if your reticule is on the guy your shot will hit every time, regardless of walls.

yeah, busted hitscan shooting is fun to exploit  I played as psycho Michael the second time through and murdered everyone.  First time was all stealth without using my pistol until I had to.  Boss fights boiled down to punch, run away, punch, repeat.

I think I'm about 60% through Batman: Arkham Asylum, and maybe 70% through Prince of Persia 2008.

Batman: AA is pretty compelling. The island setting works well as a believable limiting device, and the writing is really good. The whole game leaves me with that "I'm Batman!" feeling. Even when I'm sweating, when a scene resolves by me clearing a room, or finishing up a boss sequence, bats is still a cool mofo.
