Just bought Noitu Love 2. I'm a little wary about it, but it's only $4 so if I don't like it then whatever. Gonna try it out now.

I'm playing thru Ultimate Ninja in Ninja Gaiden 3 as well. That game is so bad I can't even put it into words. I really hope the current Team Ninja never makes another NG again.

And I'm still working on Dodonpachi Daioujou. I don't even want to know how many hours I've put into that damn game, but I'm not stopping until I get 1+ billion points. I'm really close though, thankfully. Just need to stop screwing up so many times.

I've been playing Gemini Rue and Sword & Sorcery EP.  Gemini is kind of interesting. I'm kind of meandering around on the planet right now, afraid of passing days in the prison. S&S is neat. I may like the music more than the game. I wish there was less walking around.

Played and beat Tiny Bang Story. Fun little puzzler.

Yeah, it seems pretty good so far. The graphics and music are really nice (especially the music) and it's fun to play, but it's already crashed on me twice. I guess I should start saving after every stage...

It's funny, cos he really seems to resist the comparison.  Says he's only beaten one Treasure game in his life (presumably Gunstar Heroes, but who knows).  I'm sure he really likes their stuff tho.  I think Noitu Love 2 is as good as any sidescroller Treaure put out, tbh.  Would be amazing with a co-op mode (especially if you could mix-n-match the

Playing:

Super Robot Wars Z2-2 - Getting close to done.  Stage 41 out of 60 and unlocked the true ending branch which takes place at 50-60 (if you don't you get the "what if..." branch for 50-60).  Not much to say besides it's a good game.  These games are basically visual novels at this point and it's like watching 60-120 one hour long epic anime robot episodes in a game.  Think I have most of the final unit upgrades.  Just got the last Code Geass upgrade for Kallen.  Looks good.

FIYAA

Dead Space 2 - I'm only like 3 hours in but I feel like I'm halfway through the story now.  Got to the top of the scientology church and there was this cool non-playable game for 5 mins where I flew through space and back and shit blew up left and right and I ran from some boss thing.  Was cool even if it wasn't gameplay.  I think the best things that Dead Space 2 brings to the table are the improved zero gravity areas where you can fly around at will and then anchor down on any floor.  Makes zero gravity sections pretty fun to play.  I also like the areas with debris flying everywhere that visually makes it look more impressive and interactive in set pieces.  The combat is still good, though still the same as DS1.  I powered up my Plasma Cutter, which is pretty much all I used in DS1 and now is pretty much all I use in DS2 since fully powered up it destroys enemies.  Ripper is still good for upclose stuff and sawing apart little babies, other weapons have their uses here and there; but yeah, it's Dead Space.

I think I still prefer the first game at this point for 2 reasons.  1) the story/characters suck.  In the first game at least it was kind of a mystery about what happened on this dead ship and you had your buddy crew talking to you over the radio.  In this the story is dumb and the only radio chatter is the occasional psychopath and the rest of the story is Isaac continually saying FUCK when things jump out at him.  Why did they make him talk lol.  2) is that the game feels really deravitive in a Dante's Inferno way (not quite that bad), the action is solid, but every single area and set piece just feels MADE BY COMMITTEE and there's nothing original, or interesting about the locations at all.  Feels phoned in.  DS1 at least felt like they were trying something different and was actually kind of creepy.  But it's fun and plays well so I am having a good time and give it the thumbs up.  At this rate though, I'll pick DS3 up when it's $5 since I assume it'll be more of the same.

Pokemon Black is a steaming turd, I may play some more but its quite boring. Back to Radiant Historia. I've almost finshed it, got like 170/236 nodes complete, I prob wont bother doing all the side shit. After that I'll get started on Chrono Trigger or TWEWY.

Oh the music in Pokemon is pretty cool though:

The plan for this weekend looks like:
Xenoblade, Xenoblade, throw down a Detroit Techno mix, more Xenoblade, go to the beergarden in Astoria, and more Xenoblade after that.

Great game but still not the RPG of the gen for me.

More Dead Space 2:

-The constant hallucinations.  Who thought this was a good idea?  Having LIGHTMOUTH chick give you lectures every 20 mins is not scary at all and it just comes off as kind of lolz.  The only good hallucinations are the ones without her like in the morgue where you suddenly see a bunch dead bodies in the tubes.

-Just in general with the story satisfaction, I was hoping they'd do something with the fact that while everyone is freaking out and panicing at the necromorph outbreak, Isaac has GOT THIS SHIT DOWN since he beat DS1.  You don't get any sense in DS2 that Isaac is better off because he's been through this before.  I think it would have been neat if he like led the survivors and was like "I've fought them before, I know how to kill them.  Follow me" and was badass and stuff.  This is just sort of a retread of DS1 but less interesting location.

Otherwise still fun.  A bit past the Satellite drop flying.

You've been playing too many Japanese games. He acted pretty normal for what happened to him. Not to mention the whole game is centered around what the Marker does to your head. He's fucked up. I think they improved Issac a whole lot in the sequel. In the third game, now that the Earth Federation and such is after him, he will be that "badass" you wanted.

That sounds lame.  I don't want him fighting the government.  I just want him to use his knowledge of the Necromorphs to feel more confident in fighting them.  I mean in DS2 he's the only person whose been through this before, in a story telling sense that means he should have some advantage that no one else has and that makes him a winner.  But the game isn't really approaching it from that angle.  It's like you said "he's screwed up in the head, so he has dumb hallucinations of his Wii model dead gf over and over".  Just doesn't seem like the most interesting angle they could have approached the story from.

Also, the game doesn't really have a ton of power nodes and the weapons require a shitload to max.  That "carry around 4 maxed weapons" achievement seems like you gotta play the game a couple of times.

I thought DS2 was awesome. They really nailed Isaac's wrestling between a desent into madness and clutching at the final shreds of his sanity. I think he was trying to be the whole "I've been through this before" hero dude, but he's so incredibly fucked in the head after coming in contact with the marker that he can't be that guy.

I don't see the descent into madness at all.  Everything is 100% fine and normal to him with random moments of DEAD GIRLFRIEND TALKING FOR 20 SECONDS BEFORE I CAN OPEN THAT NEXT DOOR.  It just goes back and forth, it's not like Eternal Darkness or something where the sanity creeps into the gameplay.  If it did I'd be more impressed.  I dunno, I don't think the team is that talented to be creative like that.

Bebpo is right.

Also if you want even more creatively bankrupt juvenile storytelling, check out the DLC pack "Severed". They managed to tell a narrative even worse than the main game's.

Still I can't complain. I got it for 260MSP on sale and it was an easy 250 gamerscore.

finished Dead Space 2.  Game was pretty cool.  When you go to the Ishimura I was thought it was a neat re-visit.  Then when you had to go through like a quarter of Dead Space 1's map I started thinking they were getting that re-use money savings  :lol  The story is a lot more present in the 2nd half of the game.  The first half is just Isaac walking through places and it's kind of like "oh, doomed city; yaaaawn"  The 2nd half when you're all trying to escape with the girl and psycho guy the story is engaging and the action is paced real well.  The last 15% of the game is REALLY FUCKING INTENSE.  Jesus.  Up until then you can kind of walk slow, hang back and take out each group of enemies as they pop out.  But everything on the Earth Forces area is just ridiculous enemies coming at you from every direction non-stop, infinite spawning bad guy, ALL THOSE FUCKERS WHO SLOW YOU DOWN WITH SPIT; it's easy to get gang raped if you're not careful.  Was pretty exciting though.

Game was a good length.  Took me around 9 hours and was satisfying especially because it has GREAT pacing.  You're constantly running through areas blowing up monsters and it's paced straight out of an action movie.  Just ACTION ACTION ACTION.  Which works, since it's an action game.

I really thought the biggest improvement from DS1 was the zero gravity sections.  I liked flying around and the parts where you flew around in big environments were cool.

The story was ok in the end.  Like demi said, fuck you and fuck your marker was good stuff.  Ending was good and I liked how the game had a lot of Dead Space 1 nods if you remembered DS1.  I think the biggest disappointment with the story, is that compared to an RE game or Silent Hill game or most survival horror, the plot is not very fleshed out.  In the end you start getting audio logs/text logs that enrich the plot, but it's too late and too late.  RE/SH games and their notes usually did a good job at creating the mythos and making the story more interesting than just the main walk forward and kill monsters.  With DS3 I'd like to see them put a little more effort into building a world.

Combat was good.  Did the game even have any new weapons that weren't in DS1 or Extraction?  Seemed like all the same old ones I'd seen before.  I ended up just using Plasma Cutter, Ripplade, and Machine Gun the whole game.  If I had to pick a 4th I would have gone for Flamethrower for getting out of small areas when surrounded, but I hate how when you have 4 weapons you always get ammo for the weapons you're not using and your main weapons are always running out.  So I carry 3 and the loot is better.  Was able to upgrade the 3 weapons + Rig pretty well by the end.  Could probably have 4 maxed weapons by the end of a second playthrough if I cared to play it again.

If it was a little more creative in set pieces and a little more interesting from a story perspective and maybe actually had a few boss fights, I'd be pretty much perfect for what it's going for.  As is, it's an extremely solid game that's a lot of fun and a good playthrough.  Definitely enjoyed it and going to do the DLC episodes tomorrow.

*edit* game also gets credit for the most violent MC deaths scenes since RE4  :lol

One thing I forgot to mention was the new enemies.  I think there were only about 3 new enemies, the zombie children, zombie babies, and smart berserkers.

The zombie kids were fun because they were so easy to kill it made you feel strong when you were mowing down children in the dozens.  Gave you a use for the machine gun.  The dead babies were just annoying because you need to watch out for them and take them out from a distance.  They never really posed a threat outside of one part in the end where it was a combo of them and normal enemies.  They just slowed down the action while you wait for them to crawl in shooting range.

The berserkers though, while in general I give the game a lot of flack for being entirely uncreative, they did a great job with these guys.  Pretty much the best enemy type in the series and more akin to Halo battles than everything else that just runs at you or annoys you.  I liked the sounds they made and how they'd pop their head out and look to see if it was clear before ramming you.  When there was a bunch of them all croaking about and looking around corners at you it felt like a good horror movie.  Good enemy type.

Actually I think the tentacle monster thing that keeps throwing shitty 3 group missiles at you in zero gravity sections was probably new too, but that was one terrible.  You know, Dead Space has a lot of "annoying" enemy types.  Between those guys, the wall crawling 3 tentacle babies, the really low to the ground with spikey tail jerks who pounce on you over and over guys, the ACID SPIT so you can't move guys, etc...very annoying.  But otherwise there wouldn't be much of a challenge I guess.

Hot Shots Golf 6 - Got to bronze rank and unlocked the 5th course (out of 6).  Will be interesting to see if I can unlock the 6th.  It's usually 50/50 whether I can unlock the final courses in HSG games since the difficulty curve is crazy high and I don't like replaying courses if I lose.  Been doing pretty good on this one and hitting ~-2 to 0/par on my first try in each venue.  If the game still accepts par as good enough to advance, I will do so.  If the #1 guys start getting like -5, I'm out.  I look at the dailies and the winners (these are out of like 1,000s of players) are ending up with scores around -15 to -20 on an 18 hole course.  I'm pretty good at HSG, but not that good.

PC version is really odd.  The performance and everything is solid, but the interface feels like it's run through an emulator.  Changing controls, video options, or anything is done outside the game.  You navigate the menus in-game using WSAD as if it's the left analog stick.  Default keyboard input for 'Start' is 'Enter/Return,' which is totally emulator button mapping.

And yeah, mouse aiming is awkward.  If you've ever used PCSX2 and had the mouse emulate the right stick, that's sort of what it feels like in Binary Domain.  The faster you move the mouse, the slower the camera turns; weird negative acceleration behavior.

Beat Dead Space 2: Severed...that was ok I guess.  It was only ok because I used it as an opportunity to use weapons I didn't use in the main game so at least it played a little different.  Otherwise...disappointing.  Since it was only 2 chapters long I figured it'd at least be 2 new areas.  But nope, you just run through the same stages with some slight layout changes.  And the story started off ok, I mean I like this guy and girl because they were good in Extraction and like Linkzg said, Extraction had the best Dead Space story & characters.  But then there's these twilight zone darth vader guys out of nowhere (Dead Space 3's story may end up very lolz at this rate) and then WTF AT THAT ENDING.  GJ getting rid of the ONLY LIKEABLE LEAD in DS.  You'd think they'd want to preserve the duo so they can do more Dead Space spinoff games featuring Gabe and his girl.  But I'm guessing they still will and will pull a BIONIC MAN return from the dead in Dead Space 3: Severed Again.

Also did a little new game+.  Was kind of fun speed running and using other weapons but got bored after an hour.  Is it just me or are some of the weapons not really great?  The Line Gun is basically the ALT fire for the Ripper without the regular fire of the Ripper so why not just use the Ripper?  Force Gun primary fire seems worthless except for the rare situations of getting cornered and needing to knock everyone back for a second.  Though doesn't the ALT fire of the Contact Beam do that as well?  The Seeker Rifle (which I guess is the main "new" weapon of DS2) is sort of useful but it's just too damn slow for a game where enemies are rushing you in groups at high speeds.  I only really find it useful when the enemies are in stasis to quickly and powerfully take out the limbs.  Plasma Cutter works just as well and is faster and better for groups.  Detonator mines seem neat tripwire bombs, but you run out of ammo fast.  That and Flamethrower are probably a lot better when max upgraded.

Guess I'm ready for DS3 next year.

How again is Extraction the best story? It was pretty off the cuff and was still a side story that doesnt add anything. Severed just shoehorns them in, and I'm sure they'll stuff the pregnant bitch into 3 and try to make her integral to it.

It is still a fun game, regardless.

The iOS game was pretty decent for what it was.

Honestly I don't remember anything about the plot of Extraction and I just played it like 2 months ago.  However, I do remember a cast of characters including a likeable lead guy, and decent female co-lead; some decent side characters and people you run across through the story.  I dunno, I don't think Extraction has a great story, but it just sticks out the most because it's the only DS game that actually has a real story with characters.  DS1/2 are mainly solo shooting things games with some radio chatter, although DS2 does get more story-focused in the last 1/3rd or so.  I think DS3 taking a cue from Extraction and having characters and dialogue could work.  Or it could be a disaster because the characters are terrible and you'd rather just be walking around alone shooting things.

Also I think most people like the characters in extraction mainly because they have accents and accents make everyone better.

Where does the iOS game take place in the story?

I mostly agree.

I don't know what they're doing for DS3.  It should just do what MGS2 or DMC4 did.  You play a new character who should be scared of these monsters while Isaac can be this fearless vet side character.

The iOS game was pretty decent for what it was.

Just found out this is free on the samsung app store and I'm finding it surprisingly good. First game I've tried on my s2, and although the controls aren't perfect but they're far better than I was expecting.

Prototype 2 - got my 1000/1000,boring pointless sequel
Battle for Wesnoth - awesome strategy game,i can't lavish enough praise for this title, freeware games are supposed to suck but this? not this one,the sprite art is so lovely, the music is awesome and each map has enough gimmicks to not fall into the pittrap of monotony
Etrian Odyssey 3 - hearing oscar playing the game made me wanted to pick it again, how long until i rage quit again?

gonna get witcher 2 next since tiesto suggested it

umm... i didn't really want to post this cause i know the reply are going to be more or less like "you only played like 5 minutes?" and "herp derp magus" but my first impression of the witcher is horrible, everything about it feels bad and i feel bad just thinking about it,it's the most repulsive game i've ever played,i basicaly played just a chunk of the prologue but i don't think there was a single thing that made me think "yes,i want to play this"

does it get better after the super talky prologue? cause i don't give a damn about this lame king and his wussy war,and the dialogue would go on and on and on and on... and besides it really feel like an action game with rpg element tackled on rather than the numbertastic adventure i was thinking of...

I haven't played Witcher 2 yet, but you can't judge a euro game by playing 5 mins.  Eurojank is a term for a reason.  Give it at least a week and you'll probably enjoy it.  I heard it's a good game and the first Witcher was great.

Also they are closer to arpgs than turn-based rpgs, so deal with it.

The prologue of The Witcher 2 is kinda hard to get into if you haven't played the original.

Yeah the story may not be as compelling as Persona 3 or FFXIII's, but it does get better once you get past the introductory tutorial. It's not really about building stats, but more about utilizing the best strategies to defeat the enemies.

Come on now this is hilarious.

Magus - who knowingly HATES these games - still picks up Witcher 2.

Magus - who was told constantly that SO4 is awful and doodoo - still picks up Star Ocean 4.

What is wrong with you man? Lol

The prologue of The Witcher 2 is kinda hard to get into if you haven't played the original.

It's also hard to get into if you've played the original... Witcher 2 story was very boring, I don't care about medieval politics and talk about all these countries you never get to visit or kings you never get to meet and their drama. The first game's story was pretty enjoyable though and had some great moments (the investigation and all of chapter 4 in particular).

I liked the first game a lot more than the second but it's not nearly as refined. There's some great parts in the second though, most notably the sidequest vignettes and the town hubs.

I recommended it because the Witcher series are some of the few western RPGs I enjoyed. It could just be the Polack part of me coming out...

Although magus, I'm wondering... don't you have a backlog of PS1/PS2/PSP/DS/SFC(translations) to play? Lord knows I could never buy another game again and have enough of a backlog to last me a lifetime.

I loved the original witcher and Witcher 2 may indeed be a better game than the original but it starts off in an incredibly boring manner. I've started and stopped it like three times on different occasions relatively early in the game because it wasn't pulling me in.

Beat Uncharted 2. Even though I had played a few parts of it before and watched an entire playthrough of it on youtube I still enjoyed it alot. There are some quibbles. The cover system is very frustrating and kinda broken in some areas. Same with the platforming. The stealth bits are shit. And I find it funny that some of the same people why decry linearity in games remain silent on this one as its as linear a game as you'll find. Linearity has never bothered me but I do find the double standard kinda interesting. The game  stands out because of the quality of the voice acting, the setpieces, and the animation system. The combat is mostly average. And the "puzzles" are really there to just break up the action. Which they do. Same with the platforming. Very good game. Glad I played it for myself. Will start on 3 tomorrow.

well as i said i wanted to give a chance to western rpg since the internet won't shut up about them and i haven't played one since baldur's gate 2... and what's wrong with that?
same reason i played mass effect (which was ok) this time i was hoping to pick something that was more RPG and less actiony but at this point i'm starting to understand why "western rpg are better" :smug
