The prologue of The Witcher 2 is kinda hard to get into if you haven't played the original.

It's also hard to get into if you've played the original... Witcher 2 story was very boring, I don't care about medieval politics and talk about all these countries you never get to visit or kings you never get to meet and their drama. The first game's story was pretty enjoyable though and had some great moments (the investigation and all of chapter 4 in particular).

I liked the first game a lot more than the second but it's not nearly as refined. There's some great parts in the second though, most notably the sidequest vignettes and the town hubs.

I recommended it because the Witcher series are some of the few western RPGs I enjoyed. It could just be the Polack part of me coming out...

Although magus, I'm wondering... don't you have a backlog of PS1/PS2/PSP/DS/SFC(translations) to play? Lord knows I could never buy another game again and have enough of a backlog to last me a lifetime.

well as i said i wanted to give a chance to western rpg since the internet won't shut up about them and i haven't played one since baldur's gate 2... and what's wrong with that?
same reason i played mass effect (which was ok) this time i was hoping to pick something that was more RPG and less actiony but at this point i'm starting to understand why "western rpg are better" :smug

Oh in that case, if you don't like them, don't even bother... Although I will recommend you give Anachronox a try. I got it off of a GOG.com sale, watched the intro and played a little bit, and it seems really cool so far. It's a cyberpunk type game that was heavily influenced by games like Chrono Trigger and FF7. It's a bit dated though - graphics are sub N64 level and the faces look horrible. Voice acting is campy but in a good way. Overall, it seems pretty enjoyable and charming so far, gonna definitely play more. I think it'd be much more palatable than modern day western RPGs for you. Also have you played that Legend of Grimrock game yet? It seems to be a hardcore dungeon crawl RPG, never played it myself though.

Legend of Grimrock is indeed awesome. In fact, it's probably the best game I've played this year. Although some people, who aren't familiar with the old dungeon crawlers it is inspired by, didn't enjoy the real-time combat system. I hacked my way through the dungeon in three days and a week later I wanted to dive back in with a new party. Hopefully we'll see an expansion pack soon.

Started Uncharted 3. I thought GAF was being GAF and over-reacting when they mentioned they had screwed up the aiming in the game but playing them back to back I can tell you they weren't. They fucked up the aiming in it. I noticed it immediately. I had to turn on that patched in option for the old aiming. It still doesn't feel quite as good as it was in Uncharted 2 but its way better than the default shooting the game shipped with.

I think the problem I had with Um Jammer Lammy a while ago had to do with the PS3 or LCD TV lag.  While transferring Castlevania Chronicles to my PSP Go, I decided to put Um Jammer too.  Played around a bit and passed the first two levels easily.

other random stuff:

Hybrid - really frustrating.  everything feels unnatural and clunky to me.  I dig the global war thing, though.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier - maybe it's just 'cause it's a beta, but it ain't good.

Dragon's Dogma - hard to judge an open world rpg based on a demo.  pawns act so randomly.  otherwise combat is pretty fun.  camera is a mess and I couldn't find a lock on.  it's less of a problem in the outdoors area.

As far as hybrid I would earnestly say you have to put in 30 to 45 minutes before it starts to feel normal and you will get your ass kicked in those 30 or 45 minutes. After that it all clicks. I think this one is really under-rated. I think its kinda dope once you get the hang of it.

GRFS is weird. I'll play a game on the big map and have a really fun enjoyable team experience. And then I play a game on that really small map and I hate it because the team is getting spawn trapped and detected every second. Not to mention the beta is a technical nightmare with lag, and connection issues. I'm still getting it, but I have no clue whether that's a good idea or not since its a big leap of faith to assume the devs have fixed all that stuff.

Christ, yes. SR2 had a problem with cheap-ass level scripting in that final level, where THE INSTANT you get in the chopper, it would spawn helicopters which immediately launched missiles at you. If you were in the provided helicopter, BOOM, game over. You actually had to get in, let the enemy spawn, GET OUT of the chopper and run far enough away that the locked on missiles would hit you instead, then GET BACK IN the chopper and proceed with the mission.

Talk about having to game the system...

The same problem happened when getting on the jetski to visit the Ultor corporate yacht earlier in the campaign. Utterly lame.

Hybrid was interesting enough that I'll go back to the beta.  Like you say, it feels like you need to unlearn how to play a third person shooter.  Simple things too.  I can't remember the last time I've pressed a button to leave cover; my instincts are to peel off.

Strangely, I think the concept might work better on the iPad.

Just finished Binary Domain (played on Hard). Awesome game, much better than I thought it would be. It's a little weird because the base mechanics feel like they could have been fleshed out a little more (the cover system isn't as smooth as Gears' for example), but the enemies make the game more fun to play than pretty much every other TPS besides Vanquish. Plus the story was really enjoyable, and I liked pretty much all of the characters.

So yeah, the game's pretty great. I'll probably do another playthrough on the highest difficulty.

Dues Ex: Human Revolution kind of renders the original obsolete, frankly. It's still cool to see where a lot of those ideas originated and it's got some great locations and moments [and there's the whole deal with not forcing you into boss battles], but I wouldn't say it's necessary to go back. System Shock 2, however, is still a wonderfully deep, difficult, and frighting experience.

you never played galaxy borys? it's a cool game, are you going to use dolphin? i don't remember you owning a wii

if you are using dolphin play little king story after galaxy? please? :-[

anyway

since being blue balled by the horrible cliff hanger of the anime many moons ago and full of text lust after reading about dangan ronpa let's play at the SA forum (seriously,it's awesome and full of distinguished mentally-challenged plot twist, once again go check it out if you like phoenix wright) i've decided to play this...

...which would be nice if it wasn't that the pacing is soooooooooooooo slow,i've been playing this for hours and literaly nothing happened,if i didn't know the rest i would have stopped quite a while ago

whoever said that deserve capital punishment :maf

in all seriousness,it's really similiar to pikmin so if you like pikmin i don't see why you would dislike little king story, just increase the japawacky to maximum,it's the definitive japawacky game

oh god it's the japawacky isn't it? why people would hate japawacky... :fbm

EDIT: playing more skyrim and i really like the idea that you level up by leveling up your sub skills and that therefore the game rewards you for dicking in everything you can,so many game actualy try to force you into specific path with skills tree and stupid stuff like that, but i'm not sure how the heck i'm supposed to level up my thieving skills... there's no indication about what improves your sneaking skills, and having to risk getting caught everytime i want to increase pickpocket is a pain,i tried pickpocketing a random NPC on the world map and i had to kill him after i got discovered (hope you don't risk missing anything by doing stuff like that,it was some guardian of whatever, they had an amulet that increased shield blocking)

does wearing light armor increase your pickpocketing chance?

On the second arc- in some ways I think this game is more my speed than say Vesperia- sure, it loses the open world aspect (for the most part) but I think the story and characters are better because of it. I also have to applaud the pacing- it never really felt like I was hanging around an area too long to grind 'extra' because most of the dungeons are exactly as long as they need to be to get your character to the level required to match up to bosses. On top of that- to those complaining about boss difficulty spikes- there is a difficulty slider. Happy to say I didnt need to use it on scrub normal (all divide is your friend on those boss eleth max modes) I think if ANYTHING the game doesnt really going into armor tempering/upgrading enough.

Tons of content- on top of the main arc I am currently in the extra arc- and there are 27 challenge fights which stretch your ability to use the items they provide and available strategy presets to win.

Excellent Vita game, and currently my favorite fighter on the platform. I really liked the MvC3 port, but the fighting in this game just feels so much more solid and rewarding. Tons of content and taken as a whole this game isnt a visual slouch- realistically that 60fps + awesome backgrounds come at a price. If this game was 30 fps oh god the tears.

I still like the PS2 versions better, this version feels a little too stripped to the mechanics- which is FINE n all, but I actually liked P3s characters and story. That's an argument no one wants to have though because NO ONE WINS. WE ALL LOSE> FUKKKK. Anyway- this version also feels stupid easy. Its too easy to heal up, money is too available too early in- honestly just adding the tactical options from P4 is enough- all these extra helping hands are pretty shameful.

Only a couple missions in on this one. Since I didnt want to bust out the PS2 im using an emulator on my laptop. Runs perfect so far.

Never noticed it was grindy and I hate grindy games.  Unless they made it more grindy for the localized versions (there were a couple of games like that during the PS2 era).  Thought the story was interesting so it was always compelling.

I played it before he even did Persona 3/4 art.  I just picked it up because it looked like a cool srpg at the time.

i don't really remember the game cause i played it a long time ago (like a loooooooooong time ago) but there was one thing that bothered me a lot, there is a dungeon where you can level up character which is divided in floors, each floors take forever to clear and enemies have their level equal to the floor,so in floor 1 there's level 1 enemies, and at floor 2 there's level 2 enemies and so on so it takes a lot of time before you get anything out of it

i remember other various unpleasant things too... if i'm not mistaken the game runs on a system where each action takes a certain number of points, most of the time this translates into standing around like a doofus since that gave you the chance of making multiple attacks,i remember bows being usefull simply because it meant being able to pull off multiple attack without waiting for the enemy,i just remember the game being in general a pain in the ass to play

Warriors Orochi 3 (PS3) - Kinda getting burned out on this game.  While there is no time clock, my guess is that I sunk a few dozen hours into this game.  I may return to it later but probably not.  Best Musou title out there by far.  Go get it if you haven't.

Pinball Arcade (PS3) - I'm kind of done with this game too.  My skills have rapidly declined.  I think the highest score I got in Arabian Nights is 12 million and that was the first day I got it.  Now I'm lucky to get more than 1 million points.  I suck at this game and it is getting to the point where I'm asking myself "why bother?"

Red Faction Guerrilla (PS3) - Just as good as I remembered it when I first played it two years ago.

Dustforce isn't for me unfortunately.  I love the music, and I see why it's a good game, but I'm just not enjoying it all that much.  I prefer more linear platformers like Super Meat Boy or vvvvvv.  I don't feel like there's a sense of progression like a linear game where each stage teaches you new tricks and becomes increasingly more difficult.  It's so non-linear that one stage is super easy to S/S, another is ridiculously hard just to finish and I never know which stage to do next.  It's just not very satisfying to me.  Maybe I'd like it more if I spent a few mins configuring it to work with a controller.

I agree with Bebpo. I like the training level because it's linear more than the actual game.

Popped in Skyrim. Still hands down among the best rpgs I've ever played, almost on par with Baldur's Gate 2 for me. ALMOST. If the battle system were as strategic as BG2 I'd hail it as the best rpg I've ever played.

Today's session highlights: Did Dark Brotherhood line. Holy shit. Went to Markath while on the quest line, some guy comes up to me about some stupid house. I think it's some small time quest so decide to investigate with him. Turns out the house is taken over by a god, shit goes insane almost in a Silent Hill-like manner, I leave the house to do something for the god.  I tried to assassinate the emperor, got fucked in the ass, fast travel to my guild, get ransacked by a dragon attack on the way, got jumped by dudes who have beef with my guild outside the hideout while the dragon is rampaging. I duke it out with the guards, kill all of them with my trusty bow, then I take care of the dragon which is getting its ass kicked by not only my horse but the guards' horses as well. So I've got 5 or so horses beating the shit out of a dragon, while I sniping from a far.

Good shit. Good shit.

Almost done with Super Robot Wars Z2.2;

cleared the subplots of Code Geass, Shin Mazinger Z, Votoms, God Bless Dancougar, Getter Robo Armageddon.  Now just gotta finish up Gundam OO S2, Gundam Wing, Macross F, and the OG subplot.

So many of these shows fell apart in the end so the final stages of the game are a pretty big clusterfuck of plot :|  Still fun though and the OG story is solid.

i joined the warrior guild and went into a dungeon, which is it me or it just looks like the last dungeon i went in?

Been playing Shank and I was enjoying it a lot. It's probably the closest you can get to playing as Brock Samson in a game. I then ran into the most bullshit level I've encountered in some time. Rockets rain down from above which are easy enough to dodge when you're on your own, but when you fight an enemy at the same time all bets are off. You're basically just praying one doesn't come down whilst you're stuck in an attack animation. Then there are climbing sections with instant death pits underneath and for those it's pure luck if a rocket hits you or not because there's no way of getting out of their path. Oh, and on hard death takes you all the way back to the beginning of the level. Such a ridiculous low point in an otherwise excellent game.

I do have to say well done for creating a whole seperate co-op campaign instead of shoehorning a second player into the main story.

Shank 2 is pretty great if you liked Shank 1 you'll like Shank 2- its the better game, mechanically speaking

That's what I was hoping to hear. As long as it doesn't have anything as dumb as the level I was describing I'll be very happy.

There's an annoying bit on the last level that's similar, but most of the game doesnt have that

blargh
everytime i try to reach some objective in skyrim,a dragon come and kick my ass,it's kind of frustating, especialy since it seems i don't do much damage with the bows and they never feel like going down for a fight
a while ago i killed one dragon and then another one came right after and killed me soon after :maf

maybe i should go with the main quest line,so far i've spent most of the time with the warriors questline and dicking around and i've reached level 25 with that

Been playing Treasure Adventure Game that's the ambitious title of this game but it's actually pretty good surprisingly. Best part is it's free on GOG!

I give it about 11.5/10 on my whims-o-meter. :hyper
