Ah, I never really wrapped my head around Strania.  Should go back and figure that one out sometime. Kept dying to the second or third boss...

Been playing a bit of The Cave with my trio of the Hillbilly, the Adventurer and the Twins. Currently at the Zoo section of the cave and trying to figure out what to do next with the tape recorder.

How is The Cave? I wanted to get it back when it was first released, but didn't for some reason.

It's fun. Nothing too fresh or amazing. What areas of the cave you see depends upon the three characters you choose. Early areas seem to be based on the character's backstory. Each character also has a special ability that allows you to pass obstacles you wouldn't be able to otherwise.

None of the puzzles are too puzzling or new so far. Basic Adventure game sort of stuff.

Not really. You don't ever go back to an area you've progressed through and don't get new powers. There's just some obstacles where you will need one character to flip a switch, another to push a block and one more to grab an item. Then you take the item over somewhere else and it interacts with a door or fridge or whatever and you progress.

The Hillbilly's story had me go through a cardboard cut-out carnival where I had to earn carnival tickets to buy a pink teddy bear. One of these involved a weight guesser who would always guess your weight correctly until you found a way to hide a heavy item with you.

Strania is all about strategy. Some stages can be really hard if you're not using the right weapons, so if you get stuck somewhere you should head into training mode and experiment with some different combinations. It's a little different from the usual dodge & shoot, but trying to figure out the best routes through each stage is a lot of fun imo.

played it? i 1000/1000 it,it's pretty good, the enemies are awesome, the music is nice and some of the cutscene are pretty funny... on the other side the actual plot doesn't make any much sense, the arena is an incredible chore and the game become pretty easy once you start tricking out your machine gun at max

Tiesto, please write a short review of the game when your done.  I've had it sitting on the shelf forever untouched since it seemed a lot like the DS game and the DS game I put 6-7 hours in and it was super boring.

I played Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask for about and hour and half, it seems p. cool. I'm not sure why they decided to start out the game with a derpy action chase scene though, it wasn't hard but it also wasn't good and wasn't a puzzle.

Tried out Bioshock and its boring me to tears right now with this fetch quest like bullshit.

it's like if you play Metal Gear 2 after Metal Gear Solid

I started up SS2 as well, though I'm replaying it after some time and it's still superb.  Makes me really miss these PC specific interfaces of the past.  Deus Ex HR is one of the few recent games that did it right.

Probably the only thing that 'ages' for me in these old games is the melee, and that's true for deus ex too.  This is coming off Dead Island's pretty fun melee, and that's about the only reason I played that game for ~6 hours before dropping it.

spot on, it is a lot like Metal Gear 2+MGS1.  Though, I'll always like MGS1 better.  With SS2/Bioshock, I don't think it'll be a long shot to say I will like SS2 better than Bioshock once I'm done.  Bioshock looks like CoD compared to it.

My friend Michelle let me borrow Fiddy Cent... so I'm gonna start that up as soon as I finish up a bit more of Ni No Kuni's postgame. After that, gonna finally play ME3 Omega (I did every other single DLC in the ME series so far, might as well continue), and then Binary Domain. Gonna play a bunch of shorter games since playing 2 really long RPGs (P4, NNK) in a row has worn me out a bit.

man i haven't wrote a scathing wall of text in a while sooooooooooo.... here's a summary of stuff i played while i was away from the bore

10.000.000 - this seems to have been on android and ipad for a while but recently there has been a pc version... i have a fascination with the rpg/puzzle combination so i was eager to try this, you combine match of 3 tiles and each match rappresent stuff to do in dungeon (so sword tile let you attack, key tile let you open chest, wand tile let you cast magic...) it's ok but it grows old pretty quickly,it also takes forever to make some progress as it's a quite grindy game, the music is mostly consisted of chiptunes but frankly the end result feel like being permanently stuck on one of those scene release splash screen from the ol' days of amiga

Bastion - horrible! the enemies are all the same, the enviroment are super repetitive, the combat sort of button mashy and the narrating voice never ever shut up,you pick a combination of weapon "oh that's my favourite combination!" you get hit by an enemy "that's got to hurt!" you start a trial "the trial represent blablablabla"

Bionic Command Rearmed - good,it didn't make a good first impression but as i kept playing it grow on me,i couldn't finish that last stupid level although

Costume Quest - i love having an halloween themed game, the graphic are super adorable and watching your little kid turning into a giant robot never grows old, unfortunately it takes forever to get a battle done and it drags the game a lot

Deadly Premonition - yeah in the end,i got this as someone suggested,i love francis york morgan and hearing him talking about movie's is hilarious and unique, you are so accustomed to videogame talk being about demon lords, dead parents or gangster/alien that need to be killed that having one character talking to you about movies feels otherwordly, unfortunately when york isn't opening his mouth you are left with a somewhat boring sandbox game... it's the sort of game i'd rather watch a let's play of (actualy i should do that)

FTL - the whole internet seems to love it,i feel like i should do too but i don't and i have to admit "at least i'm not getting into any internet argument over this game" is a tought that crossed my mind several times :lol, the combat feels too simple (click missile, click enemy shield zone, click laser, click weapon enemy zone... wait for bar to fills until the enemy is dead) and nothing interessing ever seems to happen until you get to the later sector's with the slugs, then you die and you have to waste 15 minutes again doing chores before getting to the interessing bits,if there was a way to speed up the game and more event that didn't boil into "take a big risk for a crappy reward" or "you meet enemy! fight/evade" it would be good

Hydorah - soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good, lovely spriteworks everywhere, kickass music and it's challenging enough to make you sweat yet not so hard to frustate you into quitting

Orcs Must Die - interessing concept but the stage barely differs between each other so this too grow's old quickly

Trine - i think i played the first two/three stages, watching all the physic happen is cool but otherwise it feels unremarkable, somewhere along the road i got the suspect that the rest of the game was going to be more of the same, shrugged and just sort of stopped playing

Scribblenauts Unlimited - it's scribblenauts but now more sandboxy with a world to explore, this works pretty well and watching the thing you do having a permanent effect is nice and dandy, unfortunately there are still a lot of puzzle that boils down to "name that fruit that is long and yellow!" while you are close to a monkey with an hungry emoticon above his head

Stacking - i love the russian doll themes, the silent movie like cutscenes are hilarious too,the actual game seems to have an hard time finding a right balance, there are a lot of solution that ultimately boil down to take the first unique doll close to the scene of the crimes and use his special power (there is an hazard suit near the poisonous gas area) then you have alternative solution that are pretty inane (the opera singer inhale all the gas... and... wah?) so it always tether between "that's it?" and "what the fuck i'm supposed to do?"

Vindictus - i remember people saying this was sort of like monster hunter,it was a pretty big lie,it's another somewhat grindy korean F2P MMO

Elminage:Original - it's a dungeon crawler for PSP,unlike most dungeon crawler it isn't fixated into murdering the shit out of you ASAP making it more palatable to people like me who get their shit frustated pretty quickly,it has super lovely hand drawn graphic on everything and more loot than you could ask for,it's also completly open world letting you dick around high level area if you wish to do so,it features very minimal plot (get the 7 magical mcguffin to stop the evil demon lord!) and the most horrible translation you have ever seen (i would say worse than ar tonelico 2 but this one doesn't have any freeze so...) oh you also get to murder monsters with a swiss army knife

and uh... that's more or less it

Also,
Bionic Command Rearmed - good,it didn't make a good first impression but as i kept playing it grow on me,i couldn't finish that last stupid level although

Weakling. You should try the 2009 reboot if you haven't already. PC version is amazing.

It's been mentioned that Stacking's solutions were sometimes enhanced by watching other people play through it, seeing the things they tried to do to solve a problem, then adding it if it made sense or was fun. Sometimes they may be pretty esoteric, but each puzzle has a solution which is pretty easy to find. If you're playing for completion, there are pretty robust, tiered hints available in-game.

The part of Stacking which I didn't find solvable or intuitive were the Hyjinx. The descriptions were insufficient in many cases, and were the only thing for which I had to consult the internet.

Yea, Trine is mostly physics platforming the whole way through... the forgiving checkpoints and occasional strange physics behavior makes the game a bit of a slog, the final board is pretty fun though.

Wow, what an ending. Has to be one of the best games I've played. Actually lol'ed at the dialogue countless times.

The bit when:

I really wanted to contribute to the sequel, but I'll buy it, for sure.

played a bit of Vanquish, which I picked up cheap recently. Man, it's GOOD. I mean, the cut-scenes and dialog and story and everything can lick my sweaty balls but the action is fun as hell. I always thought it looked too manic/spastic, and it is kinda that, but it is also fun. Had to quit after that first boss but I am keen to play more.

damn, i've never played the nes version but i got pretty obsessed with/impossibly good at windows tetris for a while.
eventually in that one your score flips to negative and keeps climbing and i got so good i could get back to zero fairly regularly.

basically all i'm saying is: challenge accepted.

Interesting.  I played the Knytt games on PC a couple of years ago and dug them.  Is this on par with those?  I read that it has like thousands of rooms and was worried maybe they'll stretch it out too long for its own good.   The old games were pretty short and it kept them interesting from beginning to end.

I started Darksiders 2. I really like the combat since its all about dodging as opposed to blocking/parrying. I don't think it even has a block button which is fine by me. All the prince of persia platforming is pretty fun too

The story is complete nonsense. I'm sure the writers thought they were all clever making a story where death is trying to resurrect humanity! It's like irony... or something

Voice acting is great though. I know lots of people were fans of Death's voice but so far all the acting has been pretty great

The way I see it, this game can be as long as possible. I always play it at night on my bed. Perfect for those moments. You know the drill of these games, it focuses on exploration and making your way through 'breath-taking scenery'.
It's definitely on par with and more fleshed out than the previous games. Get it dude, these type of games should be supported. It's really worth the money.

Fun session in Brütal Legend with Scenester yesterday; picked up a mess of Achievements, and downloaded the DLC which has additional features for the singleplayer campaign, so I'll be doing that as well.

Unfortunately, "matchmaking" isn't working for us, perhaps because Sceneman's ping was displayed as a single, red pip instead of a glorious several-green-pips. So I may need to boost to get 50 wins, because the ONE player who I did find in "normal" matchmaking decided to grief me, refusing to end the game even though they'd beaten me. I hate those fuckers.  :maf

*high five*

Yeah good session, I ended up with something like 200 gamerscore, so pretty good!

I did some homework around the matchmaking, and it seems a lot of people have similar problems. Some reported that the matchmaking was intermittently fickle, so we should give it another shot, as I'd really like to complete this game!

I played a mess of single player last night, had soooooo much fun. What an AMAZING game. Since I am only about 1/3 through the campaign on my replay, a lot of DLC content is still locked. Eagerly wanting to give the collectible hunter a shot :hyper

played some System Shock 2 from GOG

mfw it completely changes what i think of Bioshock

"wrench...."
"hacking...."
"crazed enemies...."
"unknown person guiding me through..."
"security cameras..."
'....vita chambers"

it's like if you play Metal Gear 2 after Metal Gear Solid

Perfect comparison.

Honestly, Bioshock bored me. The linearity, the level design, I just don't like it.

Does it stop the fetch quest garbage at least?

Nope. People like it for the story.

Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of this generation. Cool premise and art, average story, really really shitty gameplay. So clunky and unfun. I love my jank but Bioshock is dull as shit.

I loved Bioshock, but it is coasting on the success of System Shock 2's gameplay, and removes the emphasis of player abilities for variation in problem solving. You can do it all, and do it well, during a single run. But you don't even have to, because freeze/wrench combo is overpowered.

Even so, I enjoyed it, but when I was done, I was SO DONE. No need for Bioshock 2, or even Bioshock Infinite for me.

I was thinking of picking up Metal Gear Rising: Revengers of Vegeance, but instead I decided to pick up a real Metal Gear game by a real visionary director:

Just got to the swamp area and the enemies are kicking my ass. Not sure if I should already go there but I don't know where else I could level up.

So anyways, 70 hours into Ni No Kuni. I beat the Solosseum Rank S, beat all the postgame hunts (the reward for doing this is REALLY cool and interesting), got the trophy for 1000 battles and (shortly after) 2000 glims, just have to do this one final alchemy quest (which I'm 7/10 of the way there.. just need 3 more Scrolls of Truth) and I'm gonna call it a day. Won't have the "synthesize 120 different items" and "capture 250 familiars" just b/c they seem waaaaay too time consuming and not fun at all.

I've been playing some Style Savvy: Trendsetters, and I didn't realize this until now, but this series is developed by AKI that made all those N64 wrestling games. :lol
