i'm done with neptunia, sometimes there is a joke that hits his mark or is at least amusing enough to make you smirk (like the programmer who wants to make a game as good as FF7 but then get all depressed and decide a cashgrab is better... or the fact that there are collectible and one of the collectible are cards representing piece's of the evil deity, exactly like
Yu-Gi-Oh Exodia) and the voice acting is really good (i could hear neptune talk all the day) but otherwise it's a really awfull game no matter how you splice it
so i've been playing ar tonelico 3 instead, for those that don't know the whole gist of ar tonelico is that in the world of ar tonelico special singing magical anime loli called reyvateil exist and their power depends about how much lovey-dovey (

) they get with the main character,to do so the main character enters their mind (which the game calls cosmosphere) and deals with a lot of text while getting tons of kinky costume's (which double as equipment) unlocking new spells and making more risquè double-entendre the internet can stands (which is basicaly any number of risquè double-entendre bigger than zero)
this one starts out pretty blandly, the hero goes outside and she meets a special reyvateil being chased by an evil empire, the evil empire kidnaps her and the hero has to rescue her because he's the hero and that's what heroes do in jrpg, luckily the character are a little more colorfull,as he escape from the evil empire he meets a dude who beats enemies with a windsurf board (who seems to hold some secret about his voice, bet it turns he's a girl in disguise) and a doctor who shoots laser out of his medical bag,the heroine while being the sort of bland dame in distress heroine you see in jrpg suffer from an interessing trait, that's it,in this game instead of collecting costume's,you collect multiple personality so for example she has a knight persona which act all stoick and another persona which act more... well... whorish? then comes heroine #2... her personality comes as less stereotypical and more pro-active and she too also suffers from multiple personality, one of her persona is also a killer murder clown which makes her 100% more interessing than heroine #1,if the game ever ask me which to pick i know what i'm picking
the first ar tonelico was turn based, the second one used a system that sort of mixed valkyrie profile and paper mario (you chained attack together like valkyrie profile but defended yourself with time press button a-la paper mario) this one plays like tales of but it's a pretty lame version of tales of,all of your character only have a 3-hit combo and get some special attack but that's pretty much it,there are no jump attack,no long chain combo's,barely any special move,it's pretty barren... the only thing that makes it different from tales is the reyvateil,as you fight she charge a magic attack that you can release at any time with X which is usualy powerfull enough to end the combat,if the enemy get close to her you have to repel them by pressing circle otherwise she takes crazy damage, there is a system where you have to follow a rhythm to attack to fill a bar but the game doesn't seems to give much fuck about it so you can just mash to your pleasure, when the bar fills you can tell the reyvateil to get more nekkid (OH THE HORROR OF HYPERSEXUALIZED YOUNG GIRLS!) which in turn power up your magic, the magic usualy involve summoning something that always looks somewhat amusing, heroine #1 summons a bomb with sunglasses which get more heroic as the magic progress (complete with hero cape) heroine #2 summons a devilish girl with a mask (the kind of mask evolve with the magic, like level 1 is a diving suit helmet, while level 2 is a plastic bag) that burns enemies with a rabbit magical rod,it looks completly stupid and i love it
crafting returns, this time you also get to craft super move's,everytime you craft an item the character talks about it and the heroine you are using will suggest an alternative name item which is pretty awesome and gives tons of personality to the characters but there doesn't seems to be a lot of stuff to craft, also in the previous game deciding which heroine you would use would create different items but in this one nothing of sort happens (although you do at least get different skits for each heroine) there are also extra skits you can unlock by doing certain actions like using certain persona's in combat or finding certain items or spots, when you unlock more skits, you get to see more of the cosmosphere (and therefore unlock more persona's) in the previous game getting into the cosmosphere also had the benefit of unlocking more spells but in this game you only get one attack spells (which change depending on the persona, the whorish persona of heroine #1 attack with an elf-like thing for example) so this time you get hyouma instead,doll-like spirits which gives you extra abilities like buff's when getting nekkid
the 3d graphics are okay, the town all have super lovely pre-rendered backgrounds but sadly the dungeon are all in 3D which make the style somewhat inconsistent,i wish all of the game was done with pre-rendered backgrounds

the music is not much to write home too, encounter are random but they go pretty fast and each zone has a limit to the number of encounter you can have after which you are free to roam around to your heart content,so they aren't much of a bother....
so far it's an :ehh i like the characters and i can see the love in all the dialogue put here and there but the rest of the game has been flat
