It won't. Have you played Indigo Prophecy? Full distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.
That went completely and utterly crazy though. There's no way you could have guessed what's going to happen. I've seen enough to enjoy that on some level, but man... Heavy Rain couldn't have topped that.

Jesus resident evil 3 is so good.   I don't know if it's just because it's my first time through, but I feel like I'm actually trying to survive in some horror on hard mode.   The maps and pacing are a big improvement over 1 and 2.

Those randomly generated zombies that are super fast and waiting right outside the door for you are bullshit though.  if only the dodge mechanic was reliable...but I stopped being stingy with the ammo and started shooting things and it's better now.  Otherwise, the randomly generated stuff in general is great and every scene seems like a great time for Nemesis to pop out of nowhere.

Heavy Rain is a much better game than Indigo Prophecy. The voice acting is a little bit off, but anyone who likes adventure games should definitely give it a try.

I'm going 3, CVX, skipping 4 cause I played that first, skipping 5 cause I'm very over it, then RE6.

yeah Tekken Tag is a real looker. Real fucking good character modeling.

Almost finished with Castlevania Order of Ecclesia 100%. Doing all the extra stuff but wont bother grinding to complete the monster and item logs and all that crap. They should port the DS games to XBLA or something. I'd rebuy em all.

Just been thinking about the atmosphere and flavor of the Castlevania series a bit. Soooo tight, definitely one of my favourite game series of all time

I've got it on PC.  It'll be a little while (especially if I keep dying so much in RE3), but I'm down.

also noticed I had a bunch of GMG credit and they had 25% off RE:Rev, so i'm now the proud owner of that too

edit:  RE3 is pretty brutal.  I can't do any scouting ahead (saving, going forward using healing/ammo liberally to stay alive and see what's next, then reloading) because the game changes it up.  I found Carlos two different ways last night.  I don't remember CVX being like this and now I'm starting to join the "bring back classic RE" camp  :'(   but I'd want more like this game.

Played Rygar from start to finish, it was my first time beating that game. I hate that shit in NES games where you have all this life, but when you die you start back with such little health (see: Metroid). The game would have been much better if you returned with full health.

Done with Tomba!. Fun game, plenty of frustrating bits though. The boss fights were really annoying as well, but I liked it overall. I only ever played the demo back then and even then it struck me how much stuff there was littered about every area and that keeps up in the full game. Nice length for this kind of game, too. Did every "event"/quest (130 in total) and clocked in at 9 hours.
Moved on to Alundra now. :3

Yeah, it really sucks when you die on the final boss and then start over with crap health. Loved that game though, I probably beat it 5 or 6 times.

Sonic Racing Transformed has a level where you're racing in a Tron world with holograms of jets, jet skis and a giant Ryu Hazuki, all set to the Space Harrier theme.  It's like Rainbow Road, except no wimpy rails, and you're driving past Vyse and Joe Musashi as Beat.  And there's a Burning Ranger stage :clap

I need to get All Stars Racing Transformed, kinda surprised I haven't, yet. I started playing DDS2 and just defeated the boss of the Underwater Cable, then went back and saved and stopped playing for the night. Great game, the story already seems more involving than the original (needed to brush up a bit on what happened in the original, since I beat it back in 2006).

Just made it to the "world map" in DDS2. Game seems a lot easier than the first DDS so far. Not sure if it's just because the game is still warming up, or if I'm familiar with all the SMT spell terms after my Persona experiences, or if it's just generally easier (in terms of dungeon design and encounter challenge).

I know you mainly stick to strategy games/srpgs, but since you like challenge and skill I think you'd really enjoy Nocturne, especially on the hard difficulty level.

DDS2 is definitely easier.  A lot of people hate the game, I DON'T KNOW WHY.  I thought Story-wise it was the more interesting of the two.  The first game almost nothing happens.  Though I like the first game as well.  Just more for the atmosphere and confusion of not knowing where the plot was going to go.  I don't think I'd like it as much on a replay.

I think Nocturne was before CERO, though it looks like Maniax was rated.....E for everyone?   :lol

I thought there was some physical violence/gore, but maybe everything was just implied in SMT3 and not shown?  Don't remember.

Raidou/Strange Journey were C

Man, I need to lower my expectations for IV.  It could be very good, but chances of anything epic Nocturne quality without Kaneko/Meguro or anywhere near the budget of the PS2 Megatens is slim.

If it's better than Strange Journey I'll be happy.  SJ suffered from budget, lack of music, and ho-hum story but still was an awesome game.  SMTIV loses the good art and replaces it with wtf designs, loses Meguro but gets 100 track soundtrack :o (Devil Survivor OSTs and music from SMTIV so far have made me ok with not Meguro SMT) and potentially could have a better plot and it definitely has more budget with more demons and hopefully more dungeons.  Plus it has blue man world map, which is a major bonus.

Some of the gameplay changes though sound dumb (as in duuuuummmmbbbbeeeeed down SMT ;_;), so could go either way.  Will see!

I think you mean post-SMT3 time. SMT3 was chided when first released as being broken in difficulty (encounter rate, enemy number, damage). It was basically Nocturne's hard mode.

Also, DDS is much easier than Nocturne and predates P3/P4. Stop blaming everything on Persona.

Finally, Strange Journey came out after P4 and was tough as nails.

SJ was not tough.  The boss on dungeon 5 (mid-point boss) was freaking hard and the final boss is bs and you gotta grind a dozen levels to get final boss-worthy demons to handle it, but other than those two bosses the game was standard modern SMT difficulty.

From the megaten games I've played it's been very time-based difficulty regression.  SMT3 was harder than DDS which was harder than Persona 3 which was harder than Persona 4.  SJ was maybe DDS/P3 level of difficulty, maybe.

They're definitely trying to make the game appeal to a wider audience with each entry and part of that is making them easier unfortunately outside of specific boss encounters.  One of they key points on the back of the SMTIV box is "An rpg that anyone can play!  Simple but deep battle & demon systems!", eh, we'll see.

SMT3 was the only megaten I played that literally made me sweat as I limped around near-death hoping for a save point at the next dungeon turn.  Was intense and extremely memorable and satisfying.  Holy shit that Matador fight the first time, especially if it's your first SMT like it was mine.  Gonna play SMTIV on hard and see if I can get that same experience here.

I never got the hype about matador. Doesn't the game straight up give you the jellybean that makes you impervious to force attacks before that fight?

I didn't lose to him on my first go, even. Plenty of other shit in that game that's super mean and made me cry though.

I'd like to play Nocturne one day, but it's buried somewhere in that mountainous, undefeatable thing called my "backlog". I actually like and appreciate a wide variety of games, but it's a case of too many good games, too little time.

To make up for it I like reading players impressions of difficult/challenging games and watching videos of stuff like CAVE games. I'll never be able to do those kinds of challenges but at least I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into it.

Don't like this. I can understand they couldn't afford to shell out too much for it, but a lot of that sounds so backwards after SMT3.  :-\

Definitely. I'm not disputing that. I'm mostly just arguing the time period when Atlus made the games more mass market, and I think it's DDS, which aimed to be the FFX of SMT. It even lacks fusion and is more of a traditional rpg. It's also much, much easier than SMT3N.

That could be all about perception or matter of opinion.

I like exploring in rpgs. If I didn't, I'd just stick to a text rpg. Rpgs without locations and everything is menu driven fucking bore me. I can accept it if it's something like Etrian, or a strategy rpg. But I cannot accept it in a game where the game world and storytelling is a big element of the games fabric.

I am so terrible at turn based RPGs. Every single map in Fire Emblem I end up restarting at least twice because I put someone in a stupid position and they die. Fucking hell.

Sometimes that's also just Fire Emblem being Fire Emblem. These games can feel very much like puzzles in my experience.

Still playing Pinball Arcade on my Vita. If you have a PSPlus membership, it's free for a limited time, so you have no excuse if you haven't played it yet.

Restarting FE levels is pretty typical, you shouldn't consider yourself terrible for it. Just learn from your experiences and keep improving your strategy like any game.

I like rpgs, because I like the idea of being in a different world. I like the idea of going on a journey/adventure. So yes I kind of like walking around, so when a game has menu towns its kind of of disappointing. I mean I'm not talking about immersion, I don't need to FEEL like I'm in this game world, I just like to actually seem like I'm in this well realized world. So I really dislike menu cities. It's not a deal breaker. Persona 3 PSP was fine, but by the time I was playing that version I was purely playing Persona for the stat building and whatnot so that game's presentation made the game more efficient for that.
