Playing Shinobi for the PS2. That whole animation that starts when you kill all the guys in a row hasn't gotten old yet and probably never will.

Just finished Uncharted 2 in one sitting.  Very very good game.  One of the best this gen.  Basically felt like I was playing an Indiana Jones movie for the entire thing.  AI was worse than the first one though.

I thought Donkey Kong Returns was supposed to be really hard? I am on World 5, and still have 99 lives. This game is casual as fuck. Did they dumb it down for 3DS? Was it jus the shitty waggle controls that made it hard?

Which mode did you choose when you started the game?  The default choice is a dumbed down version of the original.

Classic, with 2 hearts.

It's mirror mode that's considered hard by platform gamers. No items, no diddy, no checkpoints, and you die in 1 hit. Then there's the expert time trials. That's where you'll find your challenge.

That's not really difficult. Just needless masochism. Guess this was just another case of wussy casuals.

I still prefer the original Trilogy.

they should give me the ability to use one of the kid as bait to fish a shark and then let me use the shark to beat up bad guys, that would make the game 200% better

i just remembered season 3 of sam & max was a thing,i don't think i've ever heard anybody talk about it,was it that bad? was the fact that didn't get a wii release meant the only people that were desperate enough to play tell tale games couldn't play it? what gives? the previous games had their moments like this

they need a modern remake

PS4 as the phone
Xbone as the arcade cabinet
Wii U as the pong machine
and uh... i guess the ouya as the last one?

And of course I need a 30min system update to play a three year old game.  The PS3 is a mess.
Seriously 118MB update is a half hour download.  WTF
Whats odd is I hated PC game for the longest time because of these issues.  I hated the installing, pin codes, updates etc. Console  gaming was great because all that had to be done was put the game into the system.  Now its pc gaming that feels simple, and when it doesn't I'm consoled by the fact that I didn't pay more than 20$ for the game.  Unless there ends up being a megaton console exclusive game I'm thinking I'm sitting next gen out.

Oh, I just hate anime.  Those kids in Yakuza 3 are actually behaving pretty close to normal kids, and I feel that "slice of normal life" part of Y3 is useful both to give Kiryu a bit of decompression after the craziness of Y2 and to really set the stakes for what follows, so I don't mind it at all.

i see,i kinda pictured you as a guy who would "fuck this shit" if a game involved too many cutscene :lol,in fact i really hope the game improves after leaving okinawa because right now i'm searching for a dog and i'm sick of this stupid pointless filler >:(

i'm also really annoyed that they decided to remove the mahjong minigame,i think at a certain point i started playing that more than the actual game, they didn't even have to translate anything and they didn't have any problem into having it in the previous game so there is no fucking excuse >:(
EDIT: so it's back in yakuza 4? goddamit! :maf

Yakuza games have always been cut scene heavy Magus.

I'm surprised Oscar likes a "slice of life" section of a game myself tho. That's totally up my alley.

Its actually pretty simple and exploitable, but yes it can be confusing immediately.

The basic idea is - form a triangle, and do a super attack.

Yeah I completed all the tutorials at the arena, but still didnt really know what I was doing lol. I just a run-down of tri-attacks in an FAQ, I think I understand whats going on a bit better now.

I like it how they made it so you can progress the story when you want, so theres no chance of missing any side quests

Decided to finally plug in Rocksmith and see if I can upgrade my weak ass guitar skills.  HOLY SHIT THIS IS HARD.  Somehow watching the notes on the screen makes it like 1,000 harder to just play simple notes.  There is a learning curve I assume.  Will stick with it and go on tour next year.

101 is the backlit version, as opposed to the front-lit 100.  It was never sold in Japan, unfortunately.

Just checked; I've got the AGS-001, the grey, low contrast screen. Mebbe I'll get the GB Micro from Nipponbashi.

I only played it for 30 minutes, but I found it to be a bit too simple. The nice thing with it is that it adapts after your skills and changes the difficulty accordingly. I think I'm going to get the 2014 edition for PS4 or PC later this year.

It's too simple early on as it's all just single notes and I'm wondering how many hours I need to play to get to chords.  BUT I'm terrible at knowing what fret my hands are on when watching the screen.  When I normally play guitar I don't need to look at the frets and just have a feeling for at like the first 5 frets or so, but even just doing the 2/5/2/5's in the first song kept having my fingers being in the wrong place.  Then again I'm playing on my electric which I never play (I use a classical acoustic guitar), so I probably just need to get used to the positioning.

Status update:

- Halfway through Dawn of Sorrow-- shits all over OoE. In other words, even though IGA wasn't solely responsible for SotN, he's capable of designing something that's not as brain dead and uninspired as OoE. Nothing mind blowing, but at least decent. On the other hand, as Oscar said, touch screen parts of boss fights suck balls and it's way more grindey than OoE.

- Halfway through The Last of US: Great game, worth $60, nothing mind blowing here from a technical perspective. Very cinematic and story driven, but done right. Has a bunch of problem, but nothing game-breaking. Bleak, intense, not "fun." 8/10 for gameplay, 9/10 for the narrative and characters (compared to other games, obviously). Solid all around.

Next:

- Going to finish Ni No Kuni after TLoU.

- HOLY SHIT I thought I didn't bring DQVI and IX but it turns out I *did*. I'm going to tackle IX after Dawn and hopefully I'll be done with it before I get SMTIV.

I think I'm near the end of Ghost Trick. Neat little game and I've gotten much better at seeing what I'm supposed to do. Turns out it's all a lot more linear than previously assumed. Every level is basically one giant Rube Goldberg machine, where you (a Poltergeist) form the connections as it's running.

Continuing to make progress into Icewind Dale. I'm now one dungeon past where I stopped playing ages upon ages ago. Starting to regret my decision to go with a very basic four-man party (Fighter, Cleric, Thief, Mage), because I have to save scum my way through a lot of fights to get anywhere, but pulling it off with only 4 people (as opposed to rolling through it with six multiclassed killng machines) has its own appeal. I still hate D&D though, and I know Icewind Dale 2 is even worse in that regard.

Pinball Arcade

got the milwaukee jackpot in the harley davidson table! got the double slide in elvira,i've basicaly wizarded most of the tables not in the william collection and have 60% of the trophies

Atelier Meruru

wow i think this is the first time i've fought something that can be called a "boss" in an atelier game, guy even get his own minions! not much else to say since once again there isn't much plot or stuff happening other than more zone opening up (the fact that i don't have to wait around like an idiot like in totori is a huge plus though) i've got to rank 6 and i'm on year 3 and that's about it... frankly i'm amused this game isn't more popular with the persona crowd, while they might be thematicaly opposed they still feature some common element when it comes to time management and social elements and where most of persona s.link are of DRAMAAAAAAAA nature most of the atelier event are of humorous nature instead

Ys Origin

started this, the control are so fluid that it feels really good,i got to the first boss, got killed and quitted, there is a bit where you have to climb on his head but it's kinda hard to do so because your character is 2D but the monster is in 3D and it's hard to keep the perspective

Still trying to punch through Ryu ga Gotoku 5.  This game is a draaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.  It's officially reached the point where you spend more time setting the controller down and watching than you do playing.

How is Yakuza 4?  Got that on my shelf.  I've only played parts of the others...

Still trying to punch through Ryu ga Gotoku 5.  This game is a draaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.  It's officially reached the point where you spend more time setting the controller down and watching than you do playing.

The cutscenes are ridiculously long. Definitely can't sit down and play for 15-20 minutes like past titles.

Pinball Arcade

in an unforeseen twist,i've got all in a single game of ripley believe it or not

- trip to atlantis
- frog multiball
- infinite million shot (twice actualy)
- a score of 292 millions

that felt really really really good but alas i think with this i have run out of pinball mojo, the magic sauce that keeps your ball afloat, noneless the quest for the 100% continues
