I just replayed Dawn of Sorrow, grinding for souls is so awful :/ it is worth getting some of them up to level 9 though, like the Skeleton Waiter one. So good killing enemies with giant plates of curry!

Also the last boss was super cake as I've fought him hundreds of times in Castlevania XBLA.

I decided to give the first Professor Layton game a go, as I've never played the series before. This game is really, really, shit

The same ancient puzzles I did as a kid in puzzle books etc., yawn. I guess the game sells itself on it's presentation, which isn't really my kinda thing. Layton himself is a cocklord.

Yeah, I didn't like the puzzles either. The matchstick puzzles and such didn't bother me because those were straightforward logic at least. But the ones where you have to think around two or three corners to get the right answer because the language was funky annoyed me a lot.

yeah those semantics/trick question ones are total bollocks. The "whats the last letter of the alphabet" one almost made me throw my DS.

The game has grown on me somewhat, the mysteries have intrigued me and I'm keen to find all the collectibles and see what they put together... I'll definitely finish this. I enjoyed the Touch Detective games much more though.

Why does Alien Soldier have a four minute text scroll of story at the start? And why is the story so complicated when it's never utilized for anything in the actual game (or revisited in any capacity really)? And why does Super Hard limit the player's ability to flame dash so fucking much?

So many questions~

Game's legit tho.

my favourite layton bullshit semantic/trick puzzle has to be the alien one but it's one of the DLC one so you guys probably haven't seen it...

it goes something like this

"A famous space explorer has just discovered a new planet and landed on its surface to investigate it further.

During his three-hour investigation, he counted 379 male Octopleans, 439 female Octopleans, and 125 that had the features of both male female Octopleans.

So right now, how many aliens are there on this new planet?"

one,the only alien on the planet is the explorer itself

there is another puzzle in the third (or maybe it was fourth) layton game that made me rage pretty hard, there is a bunch of smelly things on bottom connected to pipes with 4 exit and you have 2 cork to block the pipes from releasing the smell... the problem is that the smell comes from 3 pipe, the answer?

DDS2 is all finished, and damn that was a fantastic game. Amazing atmosphere, great challenge (though some of the boss battles were a bit obnoxious :P), cool Hindu-influenced theme and setting. I think I'm gonna take a bit of a break from gaming for a few weeks now, go out and enjoy the weather.

I haven't played any Layton games since the first one, but I remember the rule being: whenever the game throws many numbers at you resist crunching them 'cause the answer is far simpler, you just need to think like a smart-ass. Going by that riddle, it hasn't changed much.

took a break from Nier to play some Stranger's Wrath on Vita.  it's about time...I have it on PC, PS3, and Vita since around day 1 for all those, but haven't played it yet.  Even had it on xbox lol

the Stranger's VA is pretty awesome.   The other VA is good too, but the "ambient" dialog design is literally the same line at full volume repeated over and over by the townsfolk or enemies.  :-\

Yeah I learned that the hard way last night; if the equation required pen and paper and/or a calculator, I needed to reread the question and figure out the hole in the question. And every time that worked! I checked my play time when I switched off my DS, 4 hours :dizzy the game must be doing something right. Got my silky ass hooked

Started playing Forza Horizons and it's a pretty weak attempt at a Criterion racer (even the billboard crashing is like this little tiny ugly bad photoshop signs instead of AWESOME BIG BILLBOARDS TO SMASH).  I know when it and NFS Most Wanted came out around the same time, some people were saying Horizons was the better game, but even though Most Wanted is seriously flawed, at least the core racing is exciting, feels great and looks fantastic.  Horizons is like the most sterile looking world ever in an open world racer.  TDU1 was better than this.  It's just so drab and boring and the color scheme of dust orange everything looks terrible.  On top of that the cars have no weight and it feels like everything is floating around even with all the assists off.  I swear Forza 3's "arcade" settings were more arcade racer feeling than this.  And then all the stupid stuff like the constant STORY TALKING between every event that you can't skip and the whole paid DLC integration at every turn where the game keeps saying (even vocally) "DON'T YOU WANT ONE OF THOSE SEXY CARS!?!?  WHY NOT GO TO THE XBL MARKETPLACE AND BUY SOME CREDITS WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD :D :D :D" omg, that shit makes me sick to my stomach.  Most offensive pay-2-win integration I've seen in a game yet.

But mainly it's just that the world is boring to drive around because the handling is zzz and the graphics/art design are zzz.  Might play a few more hours just to give it a little bit more of a chance, but just seems like a boring racer and I generally love arcade racers.  Most Wanted had repetitive events, GODAWFUL FRUSTRATING AI RUBBERBANDS, and cars were all too heavy, but it was still a blast for a half-dozen to dozen hours because Criterion knows how to do exciting arcade racers.  Horizons feels like an attempt to do an open world Burnout Paradise/NFS Hot Pursuit game with a semi-sim Forza handling model and...does anyone real want that?  I have a feeling if GT attempted an open world "arcade" racer it'd probably be just like this and would again be a game no one wants.  Arcade fans want fast, exciting arcade racing; Sim fans want semi-realistic/realistic slower and more accurate racing.  Going for the middle ground never works.

You are missing the point of this being an IPHONE game. iPhone gaming on the bus != PC gaming on Steam. Different experiences, different expectations levels, different satisfaction needs.

eh i just tought it was boring,i don't mind if your game is just a string of battles but then you need to make that interessing by either making them hard or making them go real quick and throw a lot of stuff at me,this game does neither

Under Defeat HD - its music is waaaaay too peaceful. Not sure how much I like it so far - your copter is pretty big and the aesthetic is kinda bland. But it's still a cool game and I am still shocked that this game came out on the PS3 and in the US. Never did pick up the DC original.

The stage 5 intro (and the entire BGM) in Under Defeat is one of the best in all of shumps. The DC version does it better though because it's a gradual fade in, unlike the 360/PS3 port.

Had to look up Shinji Hosoe (the name sounded familiar) and holy fuck... talk about prolific! Had no idea he was responsible for the soundtracks for so many games...

Done with IWD: Heart of Winter and the Luremaster DLC. Accidentally started up the latter right at the beginning, but my imported party from the main game pulled through aaand came out kind of overpowered for the rest of the expansion. Although it rains XP in this one, almost as much as in the main game in maybe not even one third the amount of content, so it would have happened either way.
My fighter turned into an unstoppable killing machine, he earned something like 80% of all XP in both the main game and the expansion. :heh The other three (Cleric, Thief, Mage) only filled support roles. If you can survive the first few levels this should be solo-able with a Fighter-Thief-Mage or some other kind of multiclassed monstrosity.

Started up Icewind Dale 2. 3rd edition D&D is doing my head in already.

15 hours into Resonance of Fate now. Game is fuck awesome. I have the combat and mechanics pretty much figured out now and I'm destroying every fight.

One question, can you "Gauge Break" enemy body part HP bars? (ie. destroy them if Gauge break activates? I'm sure that happened once, or maybe I was imagining things?) Or does Gauge Break only affect their main HP bar?

I'm gonna renew my XBL gold tonight and cop the Capcom D&D bundle, as well as Renegade ops as that shit is on sale for like 340MSP this week. Also renewing my XBL gold if any mofos wanna co-op

There is some serious naked man ass in Yakuza 5.  It's not the first time we've seen naked man ass in the Yakuza series, but it's probably the most prominent, clearest, and most graphically refined naked man ass to date for this franchise.

:-*

i've been playing more pinball arcade and i got around 83% of the trophies,it took me 3 tries to get all the goal in medieval madness which is pretty funny considering the huge fight i had to pull off back when i did it in the collection,i'm also almost done with scared stiff, that table is really easy but a lot of fun (i think it's the voice that gets me :lol) i got like 350 million's but still missing a goal... basicaly i'm missing taxi, funhouse, genie, star trek and twilight zone and of course the 2 table in the new released pack

i've also been playing stealth bastard deluxe,it's got decent graphic, sarcastic writing everytime you end up dead, nice control and a lot of gimmicky levels,it also steal the idea of the teleporter from flashback and use it for some really hard bonus level,i'm surprised the internet hasn't gone ga-ga over this (or i guess if it happened and i missed it) because it kinda look like that sort of game

Yakuza's one of my favourite series, Borys.  I've played/finished them all, even the PSP ones.  This one took me a long time (six months) not just because it was long, but also because I wasn't really feeling it at all, which is rare for me with this series.  Normally I digest them fast.

I've had the same problem with RGG5. It just feels really drawn out for no good reason. I'm about halfway through it at the moment and there are good aspects of it, though.

I'm trying to remember when my attitude changed from spooging at the thought of lots of lengthy cut-scenes in a game to 'Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, just let me play the fucking game'. As excessive as all the scenes in Max Payne 3 were, at least they were relatively short.

What oscar described sounds weird to me because in RGG1 and 2 at least, they're really only cutscene heavy at the beginning of the game (for understandable reasons).

Maybe the devs saw all that extra bluray space as a chance to throw in loads more cut-scenes.
