Yeah after tinkering around for a couple more hours I have the basic flow of play understood.

Essentially more Pinata become available as you level up, and leveling is tied to unlocking various awards for the existing Pinata. The "Master Romancer" awards give you massive EXP so right now I'm working on unlocking those for my Sparrowmints and Tafflies. They are a bitch to "romance" as they are flying all over the damn place so it's hard to link 2 of them together grrrrr.

Anyhow it's a cool game and pretty unique too.

I have no idea what Rare were thinking though, whats up with their design processes? They make great games, but this as well as Nuts & Bolts prove they are not good at catering for what their target market should be.

Family/child friendly graphics and content, on top of a very complex gameplay structure with buttloads of UI to wade through. Essentially the game would be too complex for most kids, and too cute and G rated for the dudebros,  thus making the games only really suitable for the "hardcore" demographic (i.e. me and you). A real shame as Rare deserve so much better than being exclusively Kinect and Avatar devs. Oh well, they had 10 years to make a hit and they failed  :'(

i kinda got bored of viva pinata... it starts great but after a while it starts feeling like those facebook games, click on things, wait for them to happen, more things unlock, click on more things...

some pinata go through a metamorphosis and become more valuable if you do specific action, the easiest one is
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the fly... if you burn it and then douse it before it dies it actualy morph into a firefly

yeah I'm OK with gameplay structure, I've been torturing myself with F2P iOS dreck lately so this is heavenly in comparison.

I've been playing shit like Candy Crush Saga and Tiny Tower as research, and fucking hell :noah

How do people fall for all that IAP bullshit :anhuld

If you don't think of it as a game, and instead recognize it as a time killer, it is easier to grok. They're not really games, but more like pastimes for people in the office, waiting for a bus, etc.

I played it with kb/m and it controlled well. Haven't tried using a gamepad so I can't compare the two methods.

I'm just curious to know if it goes beyond turning speed (there it is again). Gonna re-play that game before the second one comes out, so I'll guess I'll just try it myself. I immediately plugged a controller in last time because the controls seemed to fit the action better.

I remember I couldn't stand the PS3 demo, but that might just have been because of the low resolution graphics or the limited FOV.

Runner 2

Been meaning to buy it for a while but hey, free on PS+ so now I don't have to! As someone who loves platformers and occasionally enjoys autorunners, this game is a ton of fun. I'm almost done with the second world and they're still introducing new mechanics all the time. The difficulty is just right, gameplay always seems fresh, music is great, visuals are bright and colorful. This should keep me busy until SRIV on Tuesday  :hyper

Max Payne 3 is decent, up to the favelas. It's actually pretty realistic. I bought Syndicate and it wouldn't work, and holy shit Origin is just bizarre.

Well I just finished Fallout 3.... Ehhh, was hoping this would play out a little differently than the TES games but it still pulled the standard 'you must snap to the main quest no matter what you do'. cool atmosphere initially, but what was the point of karma outside a few dialog choices, some rando npc encounters, and a title?

Finished King's Field IV, aw yeah. :rock Had to look up a thing (didn't see the indentations in a door), but once that was done I could go ahead and take down the big bad.
Pretty cool game, absolutely sluggish controls notwithstanding. It's easy to get lost and even easier to forget where all the locked chests are that you have to run past initially. The best armour in the game was fairly easy to find and the best weapon was mandatory to finish the game (and unseal the armour) so I can't imagine that I've missed anything valuable. It does vex me a bit that I never found one of the teleportation wands, but I had no need of it in the end, so whatever.

Also started the last Dishonored DLC, Brigmore Witches. I love the level and art design in this game, and the DLC can easily compete with anything the main game had to offer. :lawd Excited to go back and finish it, only one more mission to go.
Really glad that Dishonored was successful enough for a sequel.

I finished up the previous DLC recently and really enjoyed it, haven't started Brigmore Witches yet but it's definitely on my list of things to do. Fully agree with the sequel talk, by the way.

Did you get the goldmine multiball for Whitewater and/or harem multiball for Tales of the Arabian Nights? If so, I need help on those. Badly.

Other than those two, I need a 500K score for Firepower and I'll get all the standard goals done. The only wizard goalset I have completed is Centaur. Then, it's waiting for the next three table packs so I can play Champion's Pub, Whirlwind, Flight 2000, Goin' Nuts, and Terminator 2.

the harem multiball is easy, just shoot the left loop 5 times when the harem light is flashing, the harem light flash when you haven't locked any ball and the tiger loop isn't active, the tiger loop get activated when the balls enter the right inlane and deactives after a while so if you see the tiger loop lamp flashing just hold the ball on the flipper and wait until it's gone

the goldmine multiball is even more easier, you just need to shot the mine 3 times... the mine is on the left side of the table but it's a pretty low target and hard to hit from the flipper, either try until the ball is to the edge of the flipper before shooting or hope to get lucky when the ball starts bouncing on the bumpers

Okay so I'm hooked on Viva Pinata!

I spent a whoooole bunch of time romancing Sparrowmints and Tafflys trying to unlock the master romancer awards, but I was selling off my extra Pinatas.... I then read that the awards are tied to having at least 7 Pinata of one species at once, not total times romanced :noah

Realized that I'd played Ska's Dishwasher in 2009, in co-op, only gaining a 10 point Achievement. Decided to try for a higher percentage of GS, only to find out that it is one of those odd-number, not-a-multiple-of-5 Gamerscore games.

:maf

Now I just want to crack the one Achievement for a 100M score in any arcade level, which will even out my score again, and then be done with it.

OCD is not fun.

lol, I had the same exeprience with that game! I had to get to a multiple of 5 then DELETE THE GAME. Sound gameplay wrapped in the the worst presentation I've ever seen. Absolutely repulsive art and UI design

I got up to 75M tonight; I am hoping to crack it before I go home to Japan, because I ain't gonna buy this.

Jesus, I have a mess of games here to play, including Just Fucking Finally Cause 2, Kinect fitness games I could play to ameliorate the amount of food I'm eating in the USA, and instead I'm dicking around in this emo, manila Pee-Chee Folder art just to get back to divisible-by-5 gamerscore.

The Red Star, a mix between beat'em'up and bullet hell shooter. Look and controls lead me to believe that this was once meant to be a Dreamcast game.
Anyway, I finally gave up at stage 15 or so. Mid- and end-bosses are basically the shooter parts, everything in-between is just vanilla beat'em'up and this is where the problem lies. There are no checkpoints. Died on the shooter section? Do it all over again, including the braindead clobbering of mooks for five minutes or whatever. A lot of the enemies in those sections have entirely too much health. I don't want to do a 4-hit combo, launch them, do another  4-hit combo and then slam them into the ground just to kill them. And that's not even enough for some guys. This shit takes forever and I'm doing the same fucking routine every time for a dozen or so enemies. I thought I would like it more when the shooter stages got more difficult, but then I saw that they would just send me to the boring part of the game more often. So, fuck it. Next. Gitaroo Man~

I really want to play Blacklist and maybe they'll send it today and I'd wait until Wednesday before selecting something else. I watched Breaking Bad and refreshed my Gamefly page.

I went on a buying binge a couple years ago. Made a huge list of games that looked even vaguely interesting and stuff that I never got to, like Onimusha 4, the Megaten Games, etc. and ended up buying most of it. Stashed everything for later (and then amassed a Steam backlog on top :stahp). Now I'm slowly working through that stuff. The sheer amount is part of the reason I'm ditching The Red Star and other games if I get bored or frustrated. I have to cut my losses somewhere.
Glad I stuck with King's Field IV though, that's a fun game once you adjust to its speed and pace.

Oh it works, the beat'em'up sections just drag it down. It's more tolerable early on when you can just kick the guys off ledges. But then you have to full-combo every single one of them, bah.

Gitaroo Man is kinda tough on the input side, and I don't mean timing. You have follow a line with your left stick as you hit and hold the circle button in time. If you veer off the line while you're holding down circle you can't recover. That's as far as building health and attacking goes. On the defense, you have to hit the face buttons in time as they come in on the center from all four cardinal directions, which is just regular rhythm game toughness, but slightly confusing as the four directions actually complicate things. Is the triangle up top closer to the center than the square coming from the left? Easy enough to tell when it's slow, but once the high bpm staccato starts it becomes overwhelming.
But you can also hurt yourself by messing up during your own attack phase. Right now I'm actually killing myself with that more reliably than the enemy does... Gotta practice this stage some more, I guess...

Thankfully it's pretty forgiving as far as scores go. I think I've hit maybe half the notes in the last stage and juust about made it. Neat game, but I'm done with it already. Didn't even take two hours. :lol

This was also the first time I had problems with slipping off the sticks on the Dualshock.

Dragon's Crown - Starting to get tired of this because the Labyrinth of Chaos is such a dull grind (reminds me of the arena in Resonance of Fate). It's alright as a 'podcast game', but I think I'll lose interest before I reach the 99th floor.

ICO - Just played through this for the first time (PS3 version). The puzzles are simple (though they aren't bad), the combat is tedious, and Yorda can be annoying to baby sit, but the art, atmosphere and story made it enjoyable nonetheless. It's worth a playthrough, but it's nothing special. 6/10

nub better than stick? :gurl

I didn't say that. However, the nub works in your favor in Gitaroo Man psp. I shouldn't have to say why.

So, Gears Judgment single player is pretty good. It borrows heavily from Bulletstorm, with the scoring mechanics, along with the segmented levels. It doesnt have the fluidity of Bulletstorm, but the idea is the same.

Each "level" you can get up to 3 stars, and it builds as you do certain kills, or earn ribbons for doing certain moves (kill 3 enemies with a grenade; kill 3 enemies with headshots... etc)

For each level as well, you can enable what is essentially a multiplier, but it tweaks the level by changing the goal. For example, in the first level, you fight wretches, but if you "declassify" the segment (the entire game is a flashback leading up to Baird & Co's trial), and apparently what REALLY happens is that they encountered Dark Wretches (the ones that explode). Completing this declassified mission gives you a healthy boost to your 3 stars for the level. Dying, or being downed decreases your score.

So it's pretty fun and each segment has been somewhat varied. I'm still really early. There are new weapons as well, such as the Markza, which is a weaker version of Longshot, but it has more bullets per round, and allows for zooming in.

No question, in my opinion, that Gears Judgment > Gears 3 single player.

I havent touched multi, but the player count was extremely low - I dont think I saw a single playlist over 1,000 players.

I started the DOTA2 tutorial and played around with the controls to change a few things. The tutorial is much better than I anticipated. I think I'll give the game an honest shot and see if it clicks with me

Dragon's Crown - Starting to get tired of this because the Labyrinth of Chaos is such a dull grind (reminds me of the arena in Resonance of Fate). It's alright as a 'podcast game', but I think I'll lose interest before I reach the 99th floor.
Seems like a game with diminishing returns after the first playthrough or two.

I have some fan art saved at home, but I don't know if I kept anything cute or meme-like. I can check tonight when I get home.
