After having this game for more than a year now and never really playing it much I decided to play some Assassins Creed: Liberation.

so far it been alright and I've been digging it. Also the fact you can climb most shit is pretty awesome  :lol

kinda weird this is officially my first Assassins Creed experience (I know about stuff from the other games except maybe 3) but it been holding up and I want to continue knowing about this story of Aveline.

eh

unless it has some more story stuff then not its worth paying 20 bucks for another version (and even then that's kinda pushing it).

Stick it to the man

finished, this is pretty short  (3 hours?) being only 10 chapter... most of the chapter are decently sized but some of them are short and don't even have any puzzle to speak of and don't really add anything to the story (they usualy happen inside ray mind after he gets knocked out) so at certain point it kinda feel rushed,a lot of the chapter usualy have goons chasing you which you have to outrun and while it's not aggravating it can get pretty annoying and feel like it's here just so that the game does have some sort of platforming component

other than that it was good and it managed to stay funny and weird consistently but it's sort of hard to speak about it without spoiling too much stuff so i'm going to spoil two of my favourite bits here (both happening near the end of the game)

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- at a certain point you infiltrate this military base and ends up encountering a general flirting with two secretaries, after making the general fall in love with one of them the other stands up and reveal she's pregnant with the general child,so you take the womb from the secretary and make the general pregnant instead because someone was smoking some drug or something... this in turn makes the child unhappy which let you take the child cry....

...and slap it on a megaphone, tricking the people of another room into believing that it's actualy the alarm for a gas leak

- in the final section of the game, the villain decide to destroy the earth thanks to a giant space station but the a.i of the giant spaceship is actualy his mom so you go feeding the a.i embarassing memories from the villain (including that time he really got into this show that's basicaly a mix between star trek and dungeons & dragons which featured a d20 shaped space ship) which enrage the villain so much he actualy says that he wish he never made his mom into the a.i,this makes the a.i angry which ends up with the a.i deciding to self destruct

I finished Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories remake, shutting the book on Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix. Now to wait for the superior 2.5 package.

I received BEYOND in the mail... but it brought up the unfortunate conundrum that I havent actually played Heavy Rain yet, despite owning it for 3 years.

So I am considering doing a double dong marathon of David Cage in each of my holes. I am PS3'd out so I will jump back on my Vita to try some more Soul Sacrifice, or Tearaway.

Playing Zelda religiously over the past few days... right now have to beat the snow area/dungeon and rescue the last of the 7 sages. Have most of the Maiamai collected. Game is sooooo awesome and my favorite Zelda since LTTP/LA. I just wish they deviated a tad from LTTP with the areas you go to.

I think RE6's combat is pretty great and it shows through in mercenaries.  That makes it better than Revelaitons.  But everything else is miserable.  I made it through Leon's campaign and started Chris' and couldn't take anymore.

anyway, I'm enjoying Far Cry 3 more than I probably should.  I think I keep playing because it's fun to use the bow.  I think that's why I played Tomb Raider, too.  I'm seriously considering Crysis 3 for $5 to use the bow.  Why isn't there a game like Sniper Elite but with a bow?

yeah from I've what I've played the game is fine and the shooting is decent, it just feels real clunky and totally on rails, no exploration or anything. I dunno I'll stick it out and I have a hard on for Leon so theres that keepin me going lol.

Picked up Brothers from the XBL sale, man, what a beautiful game! I've only just started but I can tell this is gonna be great.

imo I think the Chris and Ada campaigns are the best. They focus more on encounters and let the combat shine instead of throwing you against harmless zombies that you can easily walk past. Still, you get some pretty awesome boss encounters in Leon's campaign. It's just an awesome game. So slick and stylish, and the sound design is extremely well-done.

was there ever any legitimate criticism of DmC beyond "boo hoo western devs?" because I'm playing it right now and it's fun as fuck. hasn't hit the highs of the series yet but it has none of the terrible lows that plagued the earlier games. it's the most consistent game in the series so far; I just hope it can deliver on the harder difficulty modes.

I'm pretty sure that the outrage over DmC was because people with taste realized that Ninja THeory could never out do DMC1, 3, or even 4. And despite 4 selling well, Capcom had decided to fuck the franchise in the ass by handing it to a developer who had previously made horrifically mediocre action games like Heavenly Sword.

You can tell who has taste and who is worth listening simply by their DmC argument. It should be a gamer litmus test.

Don't you mean 3? DmC is a much better game than DMC2, and honestly worth checking out if you're any kind of character-action game fan. It might not be a good Devil May Cry, but it's a fun game with some really cool moments.

Yep, I meant 3. DmC is better than 2, the only DMC not worth playing. That is some praise.

I'm not saying DmC is bad, because I haven't played it aside from the demo, which isn't terrible and I gladly ate crow when I played the demo a year ago. But acting like anyone who opposed Ninja fucking Theory developing a Devil May Cry title is straight up revisionist history bullshit and should be called out for it.

DmC is completely inoffensive. It's just dull. The combat is serviceable but nowhere near as fun or interesting as like DMC1, 3, 4, Bayo, or Rising. The combat is more comparable to something like Darksiders 2. Problem is, Darksiders 2 at least has other stuff going for it other than combat. DmC is just the combat and it's not fun enough to hold the entire game up. Mostly everything else in the game is pretty boring. There are only really two or so levels/bosses that stand out.

The worst offense is the claim that they were gonna try to reinvent Dante. I mean they just made the same Dante as DMC3 except his hair is black and he's boring now. He doesn't do or say anything interesting. At least DMC3 Dante has some enthusiasm for the stuff happening in the game. DmC Dante is just fucking boring.

I've pretty much given up on sylish action titles. Ninja Gaiden may as well be dead, Hayashi and his troops have devoured her corpse. Devil May Cry 4 was full of issues even upon release - fuck Nero and the general direction of the game - and then there's DmC, a new Devil May Cry by Ninja Theory. Even if it's a solid game, I don't expect it to have the depth of a ps2 era action game; pass. Metal Gear Rising Revanadfija;dfajd;sf played like shit from my time with the demo. I guess my hope for a good game in this genre is the new Bayonetta. But that's for Wii U, so I will replay Bayonetta instead whenever I'm in the mood.

It was good while it lasted, though - an entire generation, no less.

Is DMC a good game? Sure, it's ok though nowhere near as good as 3 or 4. No, it has nothing to do with his hair.

DMC is an ok action game, but the lack of lock on, styles, and whatnot are step backs. They do remove the depth and satisfaction of doing air combos as now the ability to do those is basically a button. There's really nothing to them now and you can basically stay in the air "forever". It's still kind of fun and very accessible, but they don't come close to the mechanics of 3 and 4. Then there is the combo interrupting crap that is the color coded enemies of DMC.

On the tone and personality  I find DMC less appealing. Ninja Theory can not tell a story. New Dante is an unlikable asshole except we are supposed to like him and see change because.....well the game has him say nice things and he wants to save a girl.  In between that he can still be an un-fun ass who curses because thats cool right? But it's ok he's good because he wants to save some girl. That's really the kind of storytelling at play here though. Then add thos story about an evil banker who's a demon and you know NT did this because it's topical and its girtty without all the substance.

The past DMC's have bad stories as well with 4 really pushing it. The thing is Dante is still an extremely fun and goofy character. Very fitting for this over the top action game. I like old Dante's stupid personality, because hell I'm kicking demons in the face. This is dumb. It dosen't need serious storytelling.

I don't think DMC is awful or anything. I had some fun. It's for sure better then other action games like GoW. It looks kind of cool. Sure everything's got a high CONTRAST rust look to it, but whatever it's got color, I like color.

Metal Gear Rising is still probably the best action game in awhile. Hopefully we get a sequel that expands it into a full game.

But iirc it doesn't have a block button. And NG is defense based.
You parry things which then opens up enemies for attack. There's a timing to this as well and as you play it kind of becomes 2nd nature. It's a pretty good system.

You have to parry in MGR to get the good stuff and NG Black was defense based (at least defense played a part along with offense)

NG2 uses offensive as a defense. You chop off enemy body parts to lessen enemy threat numbers because you'll be fighting against like 10 dudes at once. It comes as a necessity to thin the numbers. Did you play it on 360 or ps3? Because if on ps3, with its lower enemy count, this strategy is lost, and amputation just comes off as offense, when originally it was a core part of survival.

360 version and i count that as mostly offense (even your usually defensive options were tailor made to become offensive now like the roll becoming that hype as fuck dash)

rising is very flawed, but so is every fucking game in the genre. its still fun as fuck and just as addicting as all the other good 3d action games.

:gurl

dont act like this genre isnt plagued by bad level design (with a weird obsession with open-ended levels), stiff controls, trash cameras, and sequels that fix old problems while adding in new ones.

indeed.

any attempts at platforming in these games were utter shit.

Open ended levels were never a problem with the genre. In fact, DMC1 and NG1 use this as an advantage.

Rah help me find the cutscene where Dante missile surfs.

And I thought Ninja Gaiden was solid at platforming due to wall running, which never gets old.

Well DMC has ok platforming in the sense that it's super easy, but it's cinematic.

What game in the genre has a bad camera or stiff controls to you, Positive? The stiff controls complaint makes no sense to me. Are we talking about NG-DMC-Bayo?

Devil May Cry 3 has, like, a legit good action video game story.

Cut scenes are at the start and end of missions, or introducing bosses. Cut scenes move quickly, have over-the-top anime action and trope-driven character development. Compare it to Bayonetta for instance.
