There's a lot of fun to be had with it, especially early on. But it's too repetitive for it's own good.

yeah it's pretty repetitive alright, but as soon as a sweet weapon drops it's always exciting to go and pimp it out and see how much better you can waste zombies with it. I shelled out for the Bloodbath Arena DLC because why not. It's arena DLC, but the arenas are pretty interesting and challenging, and you can get some great loot.

Civ 5 is so crazy. 4 hours gone like it's nothing. Compared with sometthing like Crysis where I have to force myself to play for more than 30 minutes (and I kinda like Crysis).
I'm honestly afraid to install it.

You know, I like FFXIII-2 outside of the bits with shitty encounter rates.  I don't care about the nonsense plot, but the music and art's good, the battles are quick and fun and time traveling through the areas unlocking new locations and finding hidden treasures is good fun.  But since I went back to the game there's already been a couple of areas where the encounter rates are like every-10-steps the-worst-of-old-school style and those are pretty tedious to get through.  Also the framerate is lolz, but that lol + story lol = just relax and take it all in stride.

Yep. The crazy thing is that the first like hour of ecery game is shit but then you hit the medieval era and it just gets so fucking interesting, especially with Gods and Kings or BNW going. The worst feeling is playing a game and scouting around for future power moves only to realize there arent good options that give you a combination of luxury/strategic resources and food. The worst. WORST.

It's my first Civ game since 2. Beginning felt similar to the old games, but the deeper I get into the game the more new mechanics come up and it's a bit overwhelming but superinteresting at the same time. I'm on my first game and just got the abilitiy to cross the ocean and so many more possibilities appear. My starting position was on a small continent with no other nations, just two city states so now that I have contact with other nations it feels like the game is starting a second time. Also, I did so many things ineffectively, I'm already thinking about how I will play the next one differently.

Heavy Rain is such garbage jesus. Problem with trying to be so realistic in graphics is that everything else that isnt done well stands out, plot, gameplay, controls. All these pointless QTE things you have to do ugh ugh ugh. Game would have been better of with just some normal puzzles.

Had to stop playing and am going to try my luck in Demon Souls.

Games I recently finished:
DMC - very fun, last bossfight was a bit stupid though, best boss was the succubus
Skulls of the Shogun - good, but frustratring controls on the phone, could have used a bit more thought out scenarios cause I breezed through it
Badlands ´- nice iOS title that has a good flow to it, good for short bursts

Monaco: pretty tight. It's like Pac-Man, redesigned for replay-ability and multiplayer, with a plot.

Skulls of the Shogun - good, but frustratring controls on the phone, could have used a bit more thought out scenarios cause I breezed through it
I found Skulls is pretty hard to finesse; did you manage to complete the scenarios without losing troops? How about collecting golden skulls by fulfilling win conditions? If not, you're playing on Easy, then complaining about it being too easy.

FFXIII-2 is surprisingly a cool game.  It's just so gameplay focused with dozens of optional areas and sidequests and hidden stuff.  Academia 400 is SO GODDAMN AWFUL and wastes a good 3 hours of your life, but otherwise I'm digging this a lot more than I thought.  Makes me kind of excited for playing Lightning Returns assuming it's just as gameplay-orientated.  Almost at the end of the XIII-2 main story, so planning on getting to the final boss then going area by area and finding all the secrets that I missed first time around before watching the ending.

Started to play Demon Souls, before I knew it it was three hours later.  So far Im liking the structure more then Dark Souls.

Played some Dungeon Hunter 4 too, the iap doesnt slap you in the face until you have to use potions.... which can cost real money hmmmm. Boss fight around an hour in seems to beg you to spend some cash too (warmages).

I found Skulls is pretty hard to finesse; did you manage to complete the scenarios without losing troops? How about collecting golden skulls by fulfilling win conditions? If not, you're playing on Easy, then complaining about it being too easy.

Got quite a few golden skulls yeah. Dont get me wrong the game is nice and funny and scratches that tactical itch. I like the different monks etc.  Just felt there could be a bit more battles where you had to solve a puzzle so to speak.

Id def play a sequel if Sho nuff can make one  :-[

Played the Lords of Shadow 2 demo. I don't know anything about Castlevannia and don't really care. This is just a GoW clone with some cool visuals, art design, and great music. That's kind of all I want. The first one was fun enough, I'm not sure how the 2nd one can be worse.

Tower Knight is one of the easier bosses since he is slow with very obvious tells. I personally only find the 2-2 and the 1-5 bosses really hard.

dragon quest 9 is allright but i don't think there is anything that sticks out and elevate it out of other DS rpg, it's just kinda solid and bland and full of dumb puns... the beginning of the game is also quite easy, i didn't realize you could hire new character at the bar, went solo for quite a while and still was able to play through a big portion of the game before having to make a party

if there is an awfull bit that comes with the postgame, there is a lot of postgame content but it's all hidden in a way that it make reaching it super annoying, first of all it comes into the form of free DLC quest, now that the game is super old you can download all of the quest in a single swoop but back in the day they would be drip-feed to the player to ensure nobody would dare to sell it's copy...

most of these DLC quest involve using the random dungeon feature, at a certain point of the game you'll get a map indicating a location in the world map and going there give you access to a randomly created dungeon which comes with enemies not found in the normal game and of course the stuff you need to clear the DLC quest but of course what you get into a random dungeon is random so if you don't find what you are looking for you have to finish the random dungeon you created so you can create a new dungeon and it's so annoying

you can actualy trade random dungeons with other players but good luck finding one! if you are playing on a flashcart or emu i think someone wrote a program where you can actualy build your own random dungeon which at least spares a lot of pain...

...then comes legacy bosses, for some reason DQ9 has all of the final bosses from the previous DQ, that fat pink guy from DQ8? he's here, the final boss from the original game? he's here too... now all of these bosses have unique equipment to drop but the drop rates sucks ball, so everytime you defeat one of them their level goes up one, and they become a little stronger and their drop rates improve a little and this too is a huge and annoying waste of time

DQ isn't for everyone, though.  It's kind of meant for kids and parents, and if you fall in between that gap, you're probably better off playing Final Fantasy or something.

I'm neither a kid or parent but I prefer DQ to FF... 9 was probably the weakest one since 2 though, and I haven't played 10 yet.

I enjoyed DQ8 for what it's worth. Played it twice, second time was a 100% run using the official guide, which I actually bought. It had become a daily ritual for me.
I remember arguing with Aena on GAF over wether or not you had to grind in the game and my sticking point was that the first dungeon/boss would be impossible without some extra fights on the way. I was kind of a dick to her, haha.

The only other one I played is 4 on the DS. That was OK. I tried to go back to the first one, but I just couldn't do it.
Maybe I should try 5 instead. It seems to be the most beloved in the series.

9 is pretty decent, actually. It starts off pretty slow, which I assume since the Wight Knight is one of the first bosses...
I finished his entire quest, i.e. lifted his curse by defeating that demon woman. Granted, it's not much further...

tl;dr
Sounds like Torchlight 2's and PoE's map system. I'm not going to take it that far, for sure, but that's a pretty cool way to extend RPGs specifically.

yeah DQ5 is really cool, the plot is pretty original especialy considering we are talking about a series where the plot half of the time is "the demon lord is evil and thou need to slay him" (well not that DQ5 doesn't end that way...)

spoiler (click to show/hide)
basicaly as the game progress you witness all of the life story of the hero as he grows up,gets laid and has a family of kickass demon slayers
[close]

there is also no job system too, you just recruit monster instead so it translates into less guide checking, wrong choice picking and battle fought just so that someone can learn new skills

Gotta master that 3-4 city Tradition start. In BNW its better than liberty almost evrty time. Build on food, keep gold production high with routes, and go terrain based faith errtime.

So social politics become more expensive the more cities you have, huh? Now I understand why you should go small if you want that victory condition.

I actually did almost what you suggested except I went full on liberty. Dunno, I'm always worried that I don't have enough productivity, but so far it never really was a problem. On the other hand, happyness is much harder to keep up, I'm constantly on the search for new buildings or ways to gather luxury resources. Anyway, after I found out about the special ability of the austrians I changed my strategy and am now trying to capture the city states peacefully. Still costs a lot of money but it's fun to actually to have to do the mini quests. Much more useful to keep them happy than I thought at first.

It's only my second game but I already like that this second game feels so different from the first.

I'm playing on prince. And I already had to rush buy units after Catherine the Great was getting cocky. Thankfully, I had a nice sum of money and quickly bought some composite bow archers that easily dealt with her normal archers and warriors. Lost  a lot of happyness because I had a deal on luxury goods with her though. I'm debating wheter I should try to conquer her now  :lol. I'm also trying to spread my religion, already got three great prophets.

What are ways the main ways to happyness? Some buildings, own luxury goods, trading luxury goods, social policies and religious bonuses?

And religion benefits both the founder of the religion and the owner of the city correct? Was so unsure which bonuses to pick there, everything seemed good.

I'll check out Frags vid, although I kinda want to develop my own strategies before I take a look at the pros.

Well, she sits on my border and she broke our trading agreement that benefited both of us. I'm also kinda afraid that she'll attack me again, although I have to admit I kinda provocated here as as I had almost no war units until she attacked me and I didn't join her in her war against some other state. But yeah, I have enough problems keeping happyness above zero right know, so I will probably leave her alone and hope she learnt a lesson...

Beat the Bravely Default demo and started the full game. Game is, as expected, fucking awesome. Pretty much ticks all the right buttons - turn-based with some element of strategy, fast gameplay, job system with lots of customization options, attractive almost hand-drawn backgrounds.

Also nearing the end of Mario 3D World. I made it to World Crown, beat its Mystery House... and got I'd say 3/4 through with Champion Road. I'm sure given enough time I'll beat it and then have the game 100% complete... but yeah I'd rather just play BD for now instead and come back later.

So I tried to make a friendship offer with Catherine. She denies.
One round later, she offers it herself, I accept. After that, I propose a 1:1 trade for luxury goods, she agrees.
Another turn later, she attacks me again?! This time with a bigger more up to date army.
But after a good first round where she kills and damages some of my units, she can't decide which city she wants to attack and I kill almost her whole army in the following rounds without further casualties on my side. AI played that war really, really bad.
After almost all her units are dead, she offers me a deal where she offers me basically anything and the kitchen sink in return for a 10 turn peace. I accept, but I sure as hell am going after her capital next.

I have the crescent falchion from Shrine of Storms 1, upgrades to +4 with a bunch of points pumped into Magic boosts the damage up to around 300. I can pretty much kill most enemies in 1 or 2 shots.

Kid Icarus Uprising

This game.  Man....so mixed feelings on this.  The writing is batshit fucking crazy.  The gameplay just controls too shitty and goes on forever in a Knack kind of way.  Feels like a Suda51 game honestly.  It's got his humor, 4th wall breaking, nostalgia throwbacks, just overall entertaining wtf with crappy gameplay.  And it's too bad because there's a lot of content and gameplay options, but it just controls too...unfun.  Plays like 3rd Birthday and Kingdom Hearts 3DS but worse; like these shitty controlling action games on handhelds that don't have the controls to do them.

I got the fake ending at stage 9 and that should have been the REAL ENDING.  That fake-final stage went on foreeeever and had boss rushes and everything.  I was so burnt out on the game by the time the fake credits rolled and then when it's like BUT THERE'S 16 MORE STAGES TO GO AT 15-30 MINS EACH I just gave up and shelved it and moved to the new Zelda.

However since I do really like the writing (the localization is amaaaaazing; I took a screenshot at some point when Pit and the goddess started discussing Pit's swagger), I'm just gonna treat this like an anime series and watch the rest of the game an episode at a time on youtube for the lolz and too see the rest of the crazy stuff Sakurai pulls.  There's a great game in there by a genius dude, but it's just not fun to play because of the system limitations.

Intel and magic

Im getting some equipment together

Got a wooden cataclyst and kris blade ln off hand, ring of magical sharpness

Think i need to kill the flamelurker next to be able to upgrade the kris blade

I have the crescent falchion from Shrine of Storms 1, upgrades to +4 with a bunch of points pumped into Magic boosts the damage up to around 300. I can pretty much kill most enemies in 1 or 2 shots.

Hmm I think I have this one stashed away. I havent meleed at all yet, so dunno if its for me.

haha, you know though, thinking about other handheld action games like 3rd Birthday, the difference is 3rd Birthday and many others have LOCK-ON because they know their handheld limitations with free aim and movement.  There should've just been the ability to use a lock-on system if you wanted.

Was playing BF4 SP and finished it and was so bummed out I immediately went back to Crysis 3 and finished that. I'm still insanely dissatisfied by BF4's sp. Crysis 3 was actually pretty good, but the vehicle sections were mehtastic. I don't remember ever using a vehicle in the second one and that was for the best. I also played through the Room and immediately purchased the Room 2. That was a fantastic 3d puzzler and I hope the second one delivers.

Got my knickers in a twist with Titanfall beta where I can't get the game to run at a stable framerate so I gave up on that shit.

I'm both melee and magic. For a magic user the crescent falchion is perfect because it's damage scales with your magic level. So you put everything into Magic and you benefit from very strong spells and a weapon that gets stronger a long with it. a little farming in Shrine of Storms 2 to get the upgrade material and you'll be pretty much unstoppable for the majority of the game.

I equipped it as my secondary weapon for when baddies get close.

I killed flamelurker and the dragon god, thougt I could be upgrading kris blade but apparently I need colourless souls which arent easy to get!

Think ill do 1-3 next then move to 3 or 4.

Final Fantasy II is kinda weird, it's not what I was expecting. I'd never played it before, but I had it in my mind that it was probably just FF1 but bigger. Instead they threw out leveling, jobs, and the distinction between black & white spells. Not that any of that is really a bad thing, although I do like traditional leveling. It's easier to get a feel for how much your characters are advancing when you have a level number to look at. What I hate the most so far though is the backtracking. In FF1, you just pretty much just went from point A to point B to point C until you get to point Z and the game was over. In FF2, you gotta hike back and forth between the same few locations over and over, with the same Lv. 1 monsters that give you no experience after the first 15 minutes. :yuck

My favorite thing about FF2 so far is how hilariously overpowered the Teleport spell is. I've got my main mage up to Lv. 5 Teleport, and I can teleport away 3-4 enemies at a time. It even works on bosses. :lol

I liked FFII GBA a lot more than FFI GBA &  FFIII DS; it felt like a proto-FFXII in its setting.
