I'll give you that Off The Record was super easy (a large part due to allowing you to circumvent all of the time limits), but I remember Vanilla DR2 having some challenges/trophies that required a degree of planning to get because they could very easily go awry, including the one for killing 72k zombies in one play through.

Still nothing as console-destroying as 7 Day Survivor, of course, but definitely not as easy as unlimited combo weapons that you can grab whenever.

I've only played og DR2. And if you have to go for trophies for challenge then you've proven me right. DR1 didn't have to rely on trophies for challenge. It was already challenging.

If only they'd port DR1 to PC. Sigh.

Beat the prologue of Danganronpa 2.

:bow Monokuma DA GAWD :bow2 I haven't read anything about the story, and I figured that Monokuma would show up at some point, but I thought that Usami was going to be the main antagonist in this game and I was just waiting for her to make her heel turn, but then Monokuma shows up and wrecks shop and takes his place as Chief Dickhead. :rock Although, as seen in the previous game, dying during the prologue isn't proof of innocence....

So far my favorite of the kids is the thirsty little Chef Boyardee motherfucker. :lol He's probably gonna get thwacked in the first chapter, but I hope he's one of the survivors.

Fat Byakuya is :lol. I knew that was a thing, but I'd totally forgotten about it until I started playing. I hope he survives too. #FatSolidarity

The sadist loli is :bow2 she should be the wild card survivor, like Genocide Jill from the first game. Although I wouldn't mind if she just straight up starts murdering folks, either.

Fair e'nuff. I'd argue the post-military segment when the super zombies show up can get dicey, but you're usually a waking behemoth of destruction by the first time you get that far.

The chef psycho is legit though tho, I remember him being an unbeatable wall until I got creative enough with my equipment to beat him.

Saints Row IV is probably one of the most underwhelming games I've played. It's essentially a mini-game collection with an open world hub. A not very good one.

It made me remember Bishi Bashi Special is never getting a modern sequel so Fuck Saints Row IV out of 10

It mostly is pretty bad, yeah. My suggestion? Do the loyalty missions. I'm having much more fun with the game now that I'm doing those. The loyalty missions are some of the few missions in the game that actually take place within the open world and not some unique set piece. as an open-world game, it is pretty underwhelming. It's best to consider it like, and expansion, and not a true sequel. You'll have more fun then. Consider it an SRTT expansion and not Saints Row IV.

I only paid expansion money for it anyway. So I'm not hyper mad. I ended up finishing it and it was just completely flat outside of some of the missions as you said. I'm kinda pissed that it's just shifting you from mini-game to mini-game and not encouraging any Sandbox play outside of the clusters (Which Crackdown did much better since it actually gave you a reason to go out finding orbs) while SR2 was encouraging you to explore, find activities and use the sandbox on top of having a crapload of missions and random events. They got lost in trying to differentiate themselves from GTA when they already had it two games ago.

They got lost in trying to differentiate themselves from GTA when they already had it two games ago.

I said that in the other thread, but no one cares because super powers and pop culture jokes and a beat em up. I'm not sure whether or not to blame SRIV on THQ closing or if that's just how they wanna do things anymore.

I just find it funny how between SR2 and SRIV and GTAIV and GTAV, GTA has gone from the game with nothing in its game world worth doing, to a vast game full of randomness, and exploration, and activities, and Saints Row has gone in the opposite direction.

But we kinda have a fanbase splinter now. You've got the people who feel the game has jumped the shark and has abandoned its sandbox roots, and you've got the people who are fine with that because they enjoy the "parody" and craziness angle the series now espouses. Either way, it's pretty interesting. Do we have any idea how many missions actually place WITHIN the sandbox? It's hard for me to consider SRIV an open-world game when you're routinely taken out of the game world to do a linear set piece. That, combined with the mission design makes it feel more like it's more of an action-adventure game, than a true open-world, which is not why I play Saints Row.

I'm hoping for Gat Out of Hell to be better. The map is small, meaning a more detailed sandbox, and here's hoping they learned from SR4's mistakes.

keeping with the theme of oldass gba game, i'm replaying castlevania: circle of the moon, i remember when the game launched i was kinda disappointed that it wasn't a proper follow up to symphony of the night with gimped rpg element, sprites that just looked odd and that fucking stupid card system, nowadays in a reality where castlevania is dead and buried, playing circle of the moon is refreshing, all of the stuff that make castlevania good is there and compared to other castlevania game, bosses actualy poses a challenge and actualy requires you to pay attention! oh also it has vampire killer

So in my quest to play all mainline US dragon quests this year I'm currently at #6. I've gotten to the point where it's just finding the last 4 bits of legendary equipment.
I gotta say it's sorta slowed to a bit of a slog really. It's my first time taking this to completion but I've definitely have gotten to the point of "uggg....I just need to finish this"

Which is strange. I'm only about 30 hours into it, probably have another 10 left but I feel like I'm ready for it to be done. Whereas I put in 80 hours of Dragon Quest VII without so much as a peep in complaint about length.

Circle of the Moon also improved drastically after launch the addition of backlit screens that made the game not such an exercise in discerning dark pixels from darker pixels.

Still plugging away on Lightning Returns. Up to day 10, getting ready to fight the Aeronite, then have a few more Canvas of Prayers sidequests to wrap up. I'm coming around a bit to this game... still don't like the time limit but the extremely unorthodox and nonlinear progression was at least unique (along with getting to do stuff like exterminate monsters) for the genre. And some of the sidequests had some decently interesting story attached.

DR2 lacked the skill DR1 required so it's been a downward slope for a while now, Bebpo. Dr2 never challenged me once and I never had to sweat for time. I like the game because it's fun but let's be honest, DR3 didn't start this.

Case West was even more of a joke challenge-wise. No one can say they didn't see this coming.

I still want DR3 when it's on a crazy sale because doofy open world zombie slaying is still a big part of the DR appeal for me. The bigger part was always juggling time-sensitive shit though.

Dead Rising 3 is really long.  Just finished ch.3 of 8 and I'm at like 14 hours (DR1 & DR2 were like 10-12 hours first run iirc).  Though most of that has been collectable hunting since I'm like 80%+ of everything found/made and a got a good chunk of the achievements done at this point.  But the sidequests are so fetchy and all the driving that it really feels a lot longer than DR1 or DR2 so far if this is the halfway point.  Some fun weapons and outfits in here for sure.

Beat Chapter 1 in Danganronpa 2, not really surprised by anything so far.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I knew that little penis wrinkle Teruteru wouldn't survive the first chapter, even though he was funny. Nagito, I figured something was up with that cat, and since the previous game killed off your "assistant" in the first chapter, I expected something to happen with him. Byakuya, tho. :'( I assume we'll find out what his deal was later, but for now he seems pretty dead.

I see...I knew I had that item in my inventory, but I didn't remember where I got it (must have been from the Monokuma Machine). I tried to give it to a girl at one point because I thought it was funny, but the game said something like "Sorry kid, that's what we in the business like a call a 'Key Item'".

Yeah, you can get those key items either from the monokuma yachine or the vending machine for 50 coins. They trigger extra events by talking to people at X points in the game.

I played it a bit on the PC a few years ago but didn't stick with it. I'm playing it now on the PS4 and basically know nothing. Goblin Sword - iOS

This game feels like it's a missing Sega Genesis title in some ways. It has a visual style not unlike Wonder Boy In Monster World.

Which is a classic side-scroller action platformer-rpg for the Genny. While so far Goblin Sword lacks the larger rpg elements of Wonder Boy (particularly Monster World) - such as an interconnected world, buildings to enter, puzzles to solve, you can still tell that the title is oozing with inspiration from similar titles such as Zelda II, Fanadeux, and Castlevania 2. Whereas the aforementioned games take place in interconnected worlds, Goblin Sword has levels, likely to aid in the mobile platform's strengths. It's a really fun game that fuels the nostalgia bunnies in ones heart, if that's your kinda thing. It costs 99 cents, which is a steal. If you're looking for a fun action platformer with some rpg elements, this is a pretty good place to start.

It has a wicked trailer too, for those interested.

End of Ch.5 in DR3 is such a chore if you're doing everything.  There's like 3-4 sidequests between every slight advancement of the main quest and then the sidequests are broken down into 2-5 mini-quests.  Like right now I'm driving all over the entire game map destroying 5 vans just to fulfill one sidequest then time to go to each of the parts of the map to do more sidequests which will probably send me elsewhere.  Have all the collectibles in the game besides ones behind quest locked places.  Lvl.42/50 now.  Should be able to hit 50 cap on this run, and finish everything 100% and shelve it.  Game is fun for a while, and then still generally enjoyable, but big step back from DR1 & DR2 imo and Ubishit design of following dots on mini-map and filling up meters instead of actual gameplay unfortunately.  Bigger more spread out world just meant "more tedious, time-wasting driving back and forth for every other quest" instead of actually turning it into a plus for the series.

DR4 should be a smaller, tighter experience.  Bring back hidden psychopaths (and make psychopaths actually PSYCHO again; here most of them haven't even killed anyone, they're just pissed at you.  No, these are supposed to be crazy fucked up serial killers), and make traversal enjoyable again.  All these roadblocks everywhere in DR3 make all the traversal kinda annoying.  DR3 has some great weapons though.  Ultimate Shout is fun.

I started replaying Millennium 2.2 (atari ST) - i loved this game, but i guess the imagine in my head is of a much better looking game (despite most of it being static).

The game is much slower than i remember and knowing what the whole progress of the story is has meant i've probably went as far as i am going to go. But i never played the sequel so maybe i'll get my space pr0n there.

Other than that - Super Stick Man Golf 2 because my eldest is playing it and he wants to humiliate me in every way he can on it.

Diablo 3 in spurts on the PS3, lvl 40 and chugging slowly - just started Act 2 - somewhat lolworthy that i'm lvl 40 at this stage.

FF14  <3 <3 <3 - yeah, it's got some issues, but now i'm into the post level cap stuff then i can get to the truly annoying and awful stuff ;)

Destiny - installed, not played

Beat cases 2 and 3 in Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. Case 2 has been the biggest drag so far, though Case 3 was only marginally better. I almost feel like this game has suffered from a heavier case of "I figured it out already but have to continue playing dumb" than every other previous game.

Better learn Mark and Recall, breh.
It's not so bad where you can see the roads (and a silt-strider is not too far away), but the Ashlands are just... And then there's the part where you have to find the tomb of the Nerevarine. The directions were good enough up until that point.

I've been mainly playing my Xbox One since I got it (thank you depserate Microsoft for the amazing deal) and all I've been playing (so far) is Madden NFL 15 (which is actually really good and for me personally, is the best Madden since 04) and Destiny, which I'm not finding to be anything special, but it's been fun to play with friends and my dad. I still need to dive into Dead Rising 3, Diablo 3, and Wolfenstein sometime soon, but I probably won't bother with those until I complete Destiny

Picked up Watch_Dogs for the Bone for cheap since CEX is trying to offload it quicker than people can trade it in. It's not amazing, but it's pretty fun. I wish they used the stealth element more because nailing a sequence without detection feels good but the gun play is pretty rank. But I'm not mad since I didn't pay much anyway.

If you want something stealth focused, go do the Alone digital trip. I found it more fun than the base game and it even has its own skill tree.

Downloaded Playstation All Stars battle as it was free on PSN. Played it a bit with my kids. Nope. Not a fan.

Well, finished Dead Rising 3 in 22 hours with all side quests done and all collectibles found. Hit max attributes waaay before the end of my first run and without the PP rpg elements you're just left with the game design and oh boy is it pretty poor. Can anyone say overtime is any fun at all? That just leaves seeing the story through and the story sucks.

The game was ok. The DR formula is still fun, beating up zombies with all kinds of crazy weapons while wearing goofy clothes and exploring the game map and fighting occasional bosses. There were some really creative and fun weapons in this one and the music was pretty cool twilight zone-ish.

Now on the negatives, the weapons had a few that were too useful so there was really no point in using anything else since the larger zombie count meant you'd get swarmed more often. Elemental staff, Ultimate Scythe and Ultimate Shout pretty much took care of everything. The vehicles while a little fun, were few and non-varied and with all the driving they got boring real quick. Splitting the city up with driving just added a whole bunch of driving filler to make quests take longer as you went from one mini-city to the next.

The map was ok, but fairly generic and boring and the worst part is even when you memorized it all in your head, it never flowed well like DR1 & DR2's maps. In those games when doing quests later on after you got used to the map you'd find more efficient ways of getting from point A to point B quickly. Here, there's no shortcut, it always tedious driving.

Quests are pretty bad with a huge number simply asking for items so you run to a safe house grab them and come back; boring and tedious. There were a ton of survivors, but none were interesting. Psychopaths were lacking in number, insanity and quality fights; and secrets were mostly now a matter of ubi-soft chase your mini-map collecting hundreds of dots to fill bars (at least the combo plans gave new weapons). Even the hidden psychopath boss fights you would stumble upon are nowhere to be found.

The new casualized mode lacks the time management aspect of the original as quests have near infinite time and auto-saves everywhere take off the tension. Otoh, the old-school styled nightmare mode feels tacked on with not enough time to even do most of the quests and half the save points not marked on the map. In DR1 & 2, as you got stronger and more familiar with the map you'd get more efficient until you could get everything done in a run. Because of the driving tedious aspect, DR3 again feels lacking there. The game is quite long with all the side quests, approximately 2x the length of the previous games, however the extra length is not brought on by content but by dragging everything out through poor map design and endless driving.

The new leveling up system is also pointless. While you can choose what to prioritize, many skills feel dumbed down like crowd running and being at higher level doesn't necessarily feel more powerful than a lower one until you get to the endgame skills. Then at the endgame you max your level at 50, but for some reason they didn't balance it so you max your stats at lvl.50, so instead you keep playing and leveling while the number is stuck at 50 and then actually max out around 55-60. There's no real sense to stopping the counter when they could have just made lvl.60 the cap. The old games' ways of growing your character level by level and getting stronger in new ways until you hit the max level and have everything is much preferred.

In the end, it's fun because smashing zombies in the Dead Rising formula is still fun, even more so in co-op. However, DR3 really adds little positive to the franchise and instead removes it's well balanced, tight, memorable map design full of secrets and fun to be explored for dull driving back and forth across 4 mini-maps filled with roadblocks instead. The mission design is bad and the story is very weak (although the protagonist, Nick is kind of endearing in his meekness). Yet despite all that, even a zombie would have to admit dressing up as disco sharkman and rocket punching zombies is good fun for a while.

I remember when the first few details for DR3 were coming out, some people argued that removing the time limits and making them an optional, higher difficulty wouldn't cause a problem and the game would still be well designed around them.

Still laughing at the thought as much as I did back then.
