Started Mist Walker's Terra Battle. Seems pretty great, all things considered. I will probably hit a pay-to-win wall at some point.

Played a shitload of Ingress while we had our pilgrimage to Shikoku.

Beat Ys: Memories of Celceta last night after I finally decided to give up on trying to get a couple trophies such as find 100% of all chests (I'm stuck at 99.5% smh). Started a new file on nightmare difficulty, but I don't think I'll actually be playing it again anytime soon.

Finally started putting some time into Forza Horizon 2. Awesome game is awesome.

More Icewind Dale...

I'm in the Vale of Shadows. Really don't like how some enemies can only be attacked by magic, that's cheap yo. Not sure I have enough offensive spells to beat this asshole zombie dude I found. I'll have to gameplan something tomorrow.

Not being able to just port back to town is a hassle...but a good hassle. Knowing how annoying it is to run back to towns makes me take things more seriously. You've really got to stock up on shit and be ready for a long haul.

One annoying thing...every time my thief levels up I get to spend points on his thieving skills which is cool. However the rest of my group doesn't get anything similar when they level up. Sometimes I get to add weapon proficiency but that's it.

The Vale will be your last test for a while. That was brutal for me too because I had maybe one magic weapon.

I got my kids all kinds of minecraft versions because they just love it to death. But whenever I'd play with them they'd want to play creative mode and I was like "This is nice." But that was it. On a lark I decided to play a survival game and I'm hugely addicted.

Right now I'm busy trying to get enough iron to build rails for my immense mine, and trying to find the stronghold. Why? I don't even know. But I'm obsessed.

At some point you'll fall into lava with a lot of valuable stuff on you. That will wake snap you out of it, for a while at least.

Yakuza 2. Getting kinda boring, same as the first one. That Deus Ex Majima was pretty cool though. Kinda hoping there'll be a third. I'm also  managing a hostess club on the side, which is - different.

Started a replay of Terranigma... played it freshman year of college on an emu (UK version) but don't remember it too much, apart from the fact that I loved it... so now I'm doing a replay. Up to the Africa area where I have to revive animals... and yeah this game is so fucking good.

Also finished up the last few boards of Captain Toad, now I just have to do that annoying zombie maze and I'm done.

NOT playing anything on a freshly bought PS4, because there WERE NONE TO BE HAD. Used units are ¥30,000 instead of ¥40,000, but they are sold out.

...In retrospect, waiting until students’ spring break was a bad idea. The “big box” store I was at was filled with people buying Gundam models and engines for electric trains and Lego, presumably because they’d also come in for a used PS4.

I played a bit of Terra Battle on the LIRR this weekend. It's OK I guess, but it has all the trappings of your typical mobile game - lots of words flashing and particle effects, energy/stamina type stuff, puzzle-ish gameplay. Art is definitely a step up from the usual oversaturated color shitty mobile games. Nothing really is compelling me to continue and I know I'll hit a paywall soon.

The paywall will be my checkout signal as well. I like it, but not enough to pay more than $5. If that means another 10 hours of compelling gameplay, I might bite, but the fact that there's no way it'll get me to an actual ending means I probably won't.

When I through some of it years ago, I thought it was okay but nothing special. Returning to it, it reminds me of what Final Fantasy aimed at mainly adults would be like. There are still tropey bits and melodramatic bits everywhere, but the characters are grounded as can be. Kaim's demeanor and attitude match what a immortal dude would feel like.

OK, so I finished Yakuza 2. Melodramatic Yakuza comedy. I wasn't really sure what this game wanted to be, but I think that fits pretty well. Fun to laugh at, not as much fun to play after 20 hours.
Also, I vaguely remember the first one's finale being ridiculous, but this has to top it. Double-cross, a 26 year long con, triple-cross, endless magazines, superhuman durability, grunting hyper-masculinity, tropes upon tropes, melodrama out the ass, and the credits are set to Silent Night.

I liked Lost Odyssey but I felt that combat went pretty damn slow and the kids got on my nerves a bit. Definitely one of the better RPGs of last gen, though.

Found the Black Market in Spelunkey.  :leon

Didn't even know it was a thing. But about two seconds after entering the level a tiki-man chucked a boomerang into a store keep, setting all of them (several dudes at least) in a murderous rampage.  :o Blew up a dude with a bomb, stole his shotty, and took the rest out one by one. Shit was so intense.  :whew Then I fell into a crevice at the bottom of the level with no ropes left and had to wait around until the ghost showed up to end me.  :goty

Best game.

Black Market is the tip of the iceberg. The Ankh you can buy there is part of a sequence of actions that lets you unlock the secret 5th world where you fight the real last boss.

Neverwinter: Played a little bit, so far so good. A lot to learn but I'm digging it. Massive framerate drops on the bone currently.

RBI Baseball 15: This is a hot mess. Will be fun if they fix the plethora of bugs it released with. Am 50/50 that they will.

Madden 15 with my son: Sacks, Sacks Sacks Sacks.....broken garbage

YMMV

Mother 3.

Digging it way more than Earthbound thus far. Soundtrack, characters, dialog. Its whimsy enough while also not being over bearing with the whimsiness, Earthbound comes of as lacking substance in comparison.

i was in the mood for anime fluff so i downloaded atelier: escha and logy ~alchemists of the dusk sky~

and its pretty good actually :o it's my first atelier game and i only picked this one because it has the highest metacritic. it's a lot less ~~~anime~~~ than i thought it would be, so idk if i'm disappointed or not, but it's probably for the best.

1000'd Final Fantasy Type-0.

The combat is easily the highlight since it's basically a fast-paced action game with combos, special abilities, and enemies with patterns that are meant to be dodged. There's also this thing called a Killsight that appears for a second or two after you dodge some attacks; if you attack the enemy while it's active, it will either kill them instantly or do massive damage. I thought that was a good way to reward skillful play, especially since you have to rely on it if you find yourself severely underleveled (which will happen if you only do the main missions).

The story wasn't all that interesting, and I thought it was a little confusing actually, but maybe that's because I didn't really care about it and wasn't paying attention half the time. The characters were pretty likable, though. They're nothing special since they're all cookie cutter archetypes, but it works well enough. The graphics were nice enough for a remastered PSP game, and the soundtrack seemed alright. Pretty decent game all around.

I took a chance on a random indie game and bought Grow Home.  The whole premise of the game is that your robot character crashes on a planet and you have to grow a beanstalk to get back to your spaceship.  The game has a minimalistic art style that reminds me of Busby 3D (I know that game is trash, but I liked it when I was a kid :-[)  The gameplay is minimal outside of some platforming and collecting crystals.  The climbing controls are initially annoying (you have to use the trigger buttons to grip onto objects) but you get acclimated fairly quickly.

It took about 2 hours to beat, although if you want to get every crystal it'll probably take a few more hours.  I paid $8 for it, but it would probably be worth $3-4 (or getting it in an indie bundle).

Oh yeah I've been playing Box Boy for the 3DS but I got sidetracked when Etrian Mystery Dungeon came out.

It's a cute little puzzle platformer that looks like an original Game Boy game (minus the puke green tint).  Each world has 7 levels and there is a special gimmick for each world.  There are also crowns in each level that give points to unlock bonus content such as costumes or time/score attack levels.  It's only $5 and I've enjoyed it a lot.

man Okamiden is really good, considering what it is. sad that I took this long to play it. it essentially feels like an expansion pack to the original, as the overworld map is the same as the original and so is the combat/movelist. still fun tho bc the put in all-new handheld Zelda-style dungeons that have an overhead view and are pretty fun. it keeps up a good pace so you don't feel like you're ducking around and doing a lot of fetch questing. also like the original in that it is no challenge at all. still a lot of fun and I'd recommend it for anyone who loved the original and still wanted more.

also I just gotta say that it's crazy how good if a job they did making a ds game look like a ps2 game. pretty rad

Dragon Age 3

This game owns my soul. Jesus, it is so immersive. Can't put my controller down even after 3:00 AM. The feeling and experience while playing is totes unlike previous Dragon Age games. They really changed it all.

I went to Val Royeaux yesterday and on the Storm Coast. Fantastic, incredible visuals. I am spending lots of time just looking at the scenery and making dozens of screenshots. (can't upload them anywhere, thanks Xbox).

I can see why it won several GOTY awards. It is polished as hell.

So it's not an mmo lite filled with meaningless quests?

Bloodborne

Beat the game at 39 hours, 2nd ending, missed 2/3 optional bosses, mostly without a guide.

+Great world design, especially early on with super short cuts. Later on there is one worse area and the later levels never get that intricacy of of the first ones but they make up for it in atmosphere.
+Combat, tight shit
+Bosses, lots of em and good variety. Early ones seem a lot harder then the later ones.
+Seems less obtuse then Demon Souls as to where to find nice weapons
+Graphics/setting

-Lack of magic/ranged builds
-Loading times (minor gripe)
-Farming vials/bullets, there must be a better mechanic for this stuff!
-Without a guide chances of getting the true ending are slim on a first playthrough
-Bit more exposition of the story would be nice

Just finished Black Flag, that ending was really sudden but ties into Unity well surprisingly. I loved the setting and naval combat but now that I'm playing Unity I realize how much I missed platforming around ancient buildings. I'm probably going to go back and finish the side stuff, do wish there were more legendary ships since once you've upgraded all the way, that's the only challenge left.

Played some Vita on my weekend trip...

Gravity Rush - I picked this up a while back and dropped it, now I remember why. Can't beat the boss of chapter 9, the 3 headed dragon. You can't target and it's almost impossible to hit... can't figure out how to consistently hit the boss. Between that, mandatory touch screen/gyroscope controls, and bad camera angles I'm gonna have to drop this one. A shame, since the art style and concept are amazing.

Wipeout 2048 - a cool idea, a more gritty, earlier Wipeout game. But with what I've played it's not my favorite. Not 60FPS, a smaller soundtrack than the other games, and some insane load times (I thought the move away from UMD would mean no more load times??)

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus - considering it's your total :uguu :uguu :uguu game it's surprising that there's actually a bit of content. Gameplay is a 3d brawler/Dynasty Warriors esque game, and actually plays decent... though I wish the dash/dodge was much more responsive and that it was a bit easier to dodge special attacks. I mean the fanservice is through the roof on this one, you have everything from the girl into sadomasochism, to the 'why won't senpai notice me' girl, to the shy hikkikomori girl, to the flat-chested girl whose breast size grows a ton when she transforms into her Shinobi form. And the characters lose more clothes as they take damage. And you can even change their outfits and poke/touch them using the Vita's touchpad. It's soooo :uguu it's not even funny.

Gravity Rush is so flawed yeah, horrible controls and boring missions but a nice world etc.

Agree on Wipeout too.

I'm gonna dust off my Vita for visiting the inlaws this weekend, gonna play some Hotline Miami 2 and FFX I think.

Gravity Rush... I remember buying a refurbished Vita for that, along with FFX and Sony Smash Bros. I then ended up selling it back a month after once I realized GR and FFX were coming to the PS4. PSABR was more comfortable to play on the PS3 anyway. I currently play it quite a bit, Kat being my main in anticipation of GR; SDF is my second.

Wipeout loadtimes were much improved after the patch... imagine how bad it used to be ;)

Also - if you download Fury/HD then you get a whole lot more Wipeout. I love it personally but hey ho.

Games - not much gaming but ... :

Hotline Miami 2 - love the music but the game is doing my nut in a bit. Maybe i just had enough HM with the first game?
Xenoblade 3DS - feels a tiny bit busy , but pretty darned sweet for on the go
Pro Spirits Baseball 2015 - the king! Vita version - why on earth can we not get a PS4 version of this?
Bloodborne - for about 10 minutes.
