I also endorse Blood Will Tell. Good action, but nice to have the kid segments to break things up.

Just beat Shadow Complex, but I'm a little bummed, as I wanted to get all the items before the endgame, but couldn't seem to find a way to the right side of the map without going overland and triggering the final boss fight. Going to check online and see if I missed some obvious way over there, but I don't think I did.

I should go back and finish up Shadow Complex. When should I have all the items by? I don't want to accidentally beat the game.

Uh, you can get all the items before you beat the game. There's one missable item though.

WHERE?!

Both underground portions of the map cut me off from where I need to go. It got pretty frustrating backtracking over and over thinking I missed something. Plus looking online does make it seem that there is a "point of no return".

Then don't, I beat the game just fine letting the AI deal with it.

Muramasa, which I really like so far... then again I've only played the first 2 chapters with Monohime.

Bought a whole shitload of games too, so I might pop in Joe and Mac on SNES, fucking love that game.

Playing Shadow Complex I accidentally walked back into a save room with almost no health - it was a point where I couldn't go back to get health and there were tons of rooms of baddies following.

I had to drop the difficulty from Insane temporarily.  It makes no difference to achievements or anything but I still feel a little disappointed. :(

Just beat Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. It was pretty awesome. The first game had some cool parts, but was ultimately not very good when compared to Red Dead Revolver or Gun, but they fixed most of the problems with CoJ2. The biggest problem being the lame stealth levels. If I'm playing a western game, I wanna be a badass gunslinger, dispensing brutal frontier justice from the barrel of my Smith & Wesson, not sneaking through haylofts and hiding behind barrels. CoJ2 (if you play with Ray) is just straight-up, two-fisted, gunslinging action, with references to pretty much every western trope in the book, which brought a smile to my face. It was short, but it was starting to feel a little repetitive by the end, so it probably ended at a good spot.

Now I'm playing Mini Ninjas, killin some samurai.

Yeah some save rooms have like 1 pussy little health pack. Sorry Bildi  :(

I totally owned some games this weekend. Got 200/200 in Shadow Complex and Wolfenstein 3d XBLA while listening to Bobby Brown and Jesse Johnson. Fuck it owned

I also beat Alex kidd in Miracle World for the 1st time in 15 years, it was awesome (I was amazed I could remember so much)

I think the next thing I'll do is blast Monkey Island with a FAQ so I can get 200/200 asap and delete that piece of shit game. What a turd.

I think then I'll pick up Vesperia again and focus on that solely for the next month or so.

Got my 5th metaform (Ssair - a flying half dragon) yesterday. It has lotsa HP, flies and has damaging attack. Also found the Trident of Power around the water level and now I am whooping asses like there's no tomorrow. I already found the key to unlock the last metaform - Stone Giant - but I did not find a keyhole for it yet.

Just noticed Legacy of Kain Blood Omen is up on PSN.

That's what I'm playing.

Have you played the PS1 version before? do you know if the load times are still incredibly long?

I wanted to replay the game a few weeks ago but was too lazy to search out my old PC version (don't know if it would even work).

Sorry, forgot to get back to you....

Hell yeah the loading times are still in there.  Why it's necessary for a "loading" pop-up when you go to equipment screen is beyond me, especially since I'm playing it off the HD.  Shoddy port....or maybe it's dead on accuate of the PS1 experience.  Still annoying.

It'll be hell looking for my old PC copy.  On the bright side, it's probably next to my PC copy of Soul Reaver in that weird triangle box.

They don't speed up the loading on PS1 classics played on PS3/PSP.  PS2 was the same for most games since the "faster loading thing" didn't work on a lot of titles.

It sucks, but oh well.  I wonder if PS1 iso's played off a PC on a PS1 emu have quicker loading?

I hope to actually finish Bionic Commando tonight so I can move on to other games I want to play.  Not that I don't like BC, in fact it makes me sad to see I'm near the end cause I really, really don't want it to end.  Especially since there's no replay value. :(

Life has been crazy busy lately so I've only been getting about an hour a day of gaming even when I want more.  It kinda makes me upset at times.  I want a day off to relax and play videogames all day.  Might get that on Friday.  Hope I do.

Contra Rebirth is pretty sexy. Although I don't think there is a level select option.  I dunno why but I can get into these old school styled games pretty well.  I had alot of fun with megaman 9 too.  With most games these days I start losing interest the second a tutorial comes up or it transitions to some exposition I don't give a shit about.  I'm only playing on normal but some of these bosses seem exploitable.  There's a boss where the head of a giant missle transforms into a mecha. He's pretty easy with the right weapons.

Hmm.

1) have a party of 6 (or 7) people I don't remember what is the max
2) have a cleric (healer), wizard (damaging magic), barbarian, 2 knights and one other class as you wish
3) DO NOT RUN into the wild - you start in a city and have to clean its sewers, dungeon etc. do this first
4) when OUTSIDE on the outworld map use the step-by-step technique and slowly unveil the map one square at a time. Travel along roads for safest and shortest trips. REMEMBER: there are no borders on the world map so you can go in any direction you want and probably face LVL 100 monsters with your LVL3 party. Ooops.
5) equip EVERYONE with a missile weapon like sling, bow
6) use the shrines and wells scattered around the globe. Make notes of them in a notebook. Monsters DO NOT respawn in this game so you can always return for the boost the shrines/ wells give.
7) Always use magic in battle. Don't save on SP.

That's from my head. I have beaten M&M4/5 back in 1996.

Thanks for the advice.  The first thing I did when I started was leave the town and get murdered by some skeletons.  I started out with the slime and dwarf quests and found things to be much more manageable and fun.

Going back to BULLY on 360 after having set it aside since last December. Last generation, the art direction and graphics were some of the best Rockstar has produced on that engine. The port to the 360 is not kind; of course the graphics are dated, but there are also lots of visual glitches that didn't exist on the PS2 version, or at least little crap like nostril lighting issues which show up on 1080p just aren't as noticeable at 480i even on "HIGH TECH" modular component.

Graphics complaints aside, I'm convinced again that this is one of the best games Rockstar has made, possibly #2 to GTA3's #1 in terms of originality, purity of gameplay and environment creation, and execution. It's also funny that its melee combat is deeper and more well-realized than not only GTA3-era games, but also better than GTA IV's "deep" (untenable, unintuitive, ultimately useless) combat system. But above all of this, the school theme is so well integrated with the gameplay, it's just unmatched.

I hear the core of the team left the studio to do a 4X space game. What a waste... Does anyone know how well this sold? Will we ever see a sequel?

I pre-ordered Beatles: RB and it arrived at a friend's US address. He was going to ship it with my cracked-disc replacement for GTA4 so I can finally finish tLotD expansion. He wasn't able to send it, so I have no Beatles for this 5-day break in Japan. The day before the break, my copy of Rock Band 2 also cracked from the hub outward. :fml

Borys, you should have started with Going Commando. UYA perfects the Ratchet formula, but it is condensed into a shorter game.

I am playing Uncharted. Its pretty awesome, especially since I had low expectations based on the fact that it was hyped by the Sony mindshare. The graphics still look top notch. The platforming, much like Infamous but not quite that bad, is not the best. It is a blend of "automatic" and skill platforming, but like Infamous I find myself wishing that I had more control. I have had to repeat several platforming sequences because my character will run right off of the edge of a platform without hanging onto the edge first, unlike actually good platformers like Prince of Persia and Assassins Creed. The camera is also kind of wonky, which makes the platforming all that more frustrating in parts. Much like Infamous, I am finding this game to have some good ideas, but lacking in execution. However, this is much more polished than Infamous, so I can't complain too much.

that was a bit overstated  :lol. But I was never frustrated with the platforming mechanics in PoP or Assassin Creed like I was with Uncharted. What pissed me off the most was how sometimes Nate would grab onto a ledge when you got close, and then other times he would walk right off without grabbing. If there was some consistency, it would be manageable, but it is completely arbitrary as it stands.

Playing 2 games on and off

Scribblenauts - average game and boring at times, proving once again that no one should listen to Neogaf hype

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - Cool game so far, can be difficult, GARBAGE camera controls, combat system can be annoying (a lot of canned animations and/or long recovery animations for some moves)

I dunno, I never had an issue with the platforming in Uncharted other than it being too easy.  AC and PoP are fake platforming imo.  You point the stick in the direction you want to go and it does all the platforming for you.  Auto-platforming sucks, there's no skill involved so there's no satisfaction in the result.  That's why I love Crackdown, the platforming is all manual.  Infamous is pretty manual too although they made it too easy to scale buildings.

if you run too fast towards the ledge, he hops off.  I guess it's like that in case there's a ledge that would be too close for jumping onto, but close enough to hop to.  I agree it's annoying.

all "lol ps3 fan boy" jokes aside, Uncharted comes close to greatness, but its almost like the shooting and platforming came at the expense of each other...neither is where it needs to be.

We are obviously not talking about the same thing. I always felt like I had more control in Assassin's Creed than I did in Infamous and Uncharted. And I was talking about the PS2 gen PoP,  I haven't even played the one that came out last year.

The complaints about the shooting were minimal for me compared to the other complaints that I listed. And Fafka, I agree about how this game comes close to greatness (much like Infamous). The first 60% of the game were awesome for me and I was already thinking about how I wanted to replay it. The ending couple of levels really soured me though (especially those zombies or whatever there were).

why don't you take advantage of the PC and bump the res + add AA?

so far the game seems really GPU dependant and bumping the res from native makes it much slower, I need a better video card

for reference i have a 512mb radeon 4850

Also the two video plugins for pcsx2, GSdx and Zerogs, zerogs seems to let me bump the res and add AA much easier but it also isnt as good as gsdx, it has like a bunch more visual bugs and basically runs shittier. GSdx seems much better, only visual bug is the lights/models sometimes make the walls transparent, its minor, but weird.

What kind of computer specs do you have, Viz?  Does the PS2 emulator run smoothly?  I wanna play Persona 4 when I build a new PC, but I'm not entirely sure how PS2 emulation is coming along.

pretty smooth, there is some slowdown during some boss battles, but its strange which ones cause you can be fighting this tiny elephant boss and get slowdown then you fight this huge screen filling monster and it runs super smooth. But it only dips for a second or two. I think it has something to do with this vortex like effect that shows up behind bosses

judging by the cpu info on the bar up top id say this game barely uses that, i also have a quad core but the emu only uses up to two cores anyway so thats a waste

this is from the latest beta build of pcsx2 btw, they are overhauling their GUI soon i think so itll be easier to use

I see. GSDX doesn't have AA yet?  (I haven't screwed with PCSX2 since last winter.)

I took some spare cash lying around the apartment and bought a 12-month XBL card. So I guess I'll play some Halo 3 online.

Been playing Free Mission Mode in Gundam 0081. It's a lot of fun, but pretty brutal.

One down, one to go. Just gotta keep playing online races, and I'll get the full 1000 on NFS Undercover.

On to some Rock Band 2 action with my Duo Jet controller.

Started playing Motorstorm 2 and...it's good?.  They should have put out a different stage for the demo; the demo did not impress at all.  Game is still way too difficult though.  I am sooo bad.

Did you finish the main story?  How was it overall?

Motorstorm 2 would be a damn fine racing game if it didn't make you RAGE the entire time because of the bullshit AI.

For M3 maybe they can learn to add DIFFICULTY LEVELS like every other racing game on the planet these days wtf

Yes, Jake games are better than the R&C games.

Sony should stop making R&C games after A Crack in Time and focus on the Jak franchise.

And no, Jak PSP doesn't count because it looks like shit. I want a Naughty Dog Jak and Daxter.

Impressive  8)

It's pretty hard to score like that since Fifa 2000. In Fifa 99 you could score from the other side of the field all the time...
